Correction: the Diablo had the 300zx headlights. I've owned three 300zx's; I'll never forget driving down the road and a little kid yelling "Nice Lamborghini!" at me as I passed by. This was in 2014, nearly 20 years since the last one rolled off the production line. Such a timeless design. Your redesign looks very much like what I would expect it to look like today. You have some serious skills! But Nissan got it just right back in the 90s; the original design was flawless.
Yeah it was kinda annoying that he kept comparing them to the Diablo, it's a know fact that you take the headlights off the Diablo and they will say Nissan on them
The 370 is a good enough looking car when you see one, but wow, looking at the profile compared to the new Z, it looks a bit, well, "fat", for the lack of a better description. The 300 still looks good today on the road, a low and sleek shark among the slab faced massive shoeboxes on wheels all over the roads today. That, and the '93 to '95 era Mazda RX-7 are the high points in Japanese car design, to my eyes. Great video as always!
I was surprised at how fat the 370 looks when compared to the 350. They look so similar, but when put side by side, the difference is pretty stark. It was not the best evolution of the Z. The new Z looks nice, but it's still no 240.
@@BlakeMcCringleberry I agree. I had a Silverstone 350Z with burnt orange interior, and it always got a lot of looks. 240 is a classic. With today's regulations, Unfortunately, I don't think we will see something as elegant as that in today's environment...unless it's a multi-million dollar car from Gordon Murray. :)

This actually taught me how to design cars, make it look similar and pay homage to the original designs, while also making sure it looks modern and fits the manufacturers style
The 300ZX was my first car in the 90's, some of my fondest memories with that car. And I purchased the 370Z because of those sexy curves, especially those 'hips' in the rear similar to a Porsche.
I bet if you tried this with the 2+0 instead of the 2+2, you may see huge difference in how the rear end talks to you. Wouldn’t look nearly as sedan-y.
When the 300ZXTT went on sale, I instantly wanted one. I think it was because my mom owned a 1985 Nissan Maxima and I loved it. Turbo power sounded like magic back then, twin turbo was just that much more magical. I was 5 years old. When I was 14, I read about how turbo power works in an issue of Sport Compact Car. It was about how to get 450HP from a 300ZXTT. I also saw the R34 GT-R prototype and loved the look of it. I didn't even remember the Z31 300ZXT it was too bland for me to remember. It looked too much like all the other pixelated cars of the time. I saw the new Z as combining the best of the S30 and Z32. Several years ago, I thought there would never be a Nissan Turbo Z. I was so thrilled to see it. When the 2009 Maxima was at an auto show, I instantly fell in love with the look. When I heard the guy behind the R34 styled it, I just thought "Wow, it explains everything!"
Killed it. What would have been better housing headlights IMO would have been '05 NSX headlights then the LED design in them off the frontier but either way, cool redesign.
Fun Fact. Diablo took the headlights from the 300. Nissan already did the research and development. If you are a Diablo owner, pop some trim, you'll see Nissan stamped on them
I always had a sweet spot for 300z’s and as much as I like the new Z coming, I would totally buy your redesign over that in a heartbeat. Excellent work!
I think an important thing to note is that the 300zx that you used in the redesign is a 2+2 or the model with back seats meaning the wheelbase is extended and the whole body of the car looks stretched out and much more bulbous, IMO the 2 seater is much more sporty and "Z car", I feel like it would produce a better end result
Instead of taking the old car and taking Design elements from newer models, you should take newer models and redesigning the elements to look retro. In that case you would have modern proportions with nostalgic character like with the 400z
The Z32 was made in 2 different wheelbases. The more natural looking 2+0 coupe and the slightly elongated 2+2 coupe. The 2+0 looks way better, but the 2+2 allowed the front seats to slide back further, allowing for a taller driver.
I love all of your videos. I would like to see a 68-69 c3 Corvette convertible wide body with a nice flowing air damn, side skirts with exhaust and a speed tail.
That turned out AMAZING! I would minor critique; for likev2 seconds when you had the roof all black, looked really cool. Appears to be the modern trend too. Otherwise AWESOME JOB!!! ✌🏾🖤✊🏾
The 300z was always a car that looked more sporty and distinctive but some how you managed to retain that distinctiveness and add a little more aggression to the look ... honestly you should get hired by Nissan to design future electric cars .. it may not be loud but it looks beastly
Kinda looks like a saturn sl-1 from the mid 90’s in the front. That being said you do amazing work and I could only dream to have half the skills you do!
I like the 300ZX is one of the best design from the 90S but I love the 350Z that design is one of the most complete well executed in car design the line flows through and connects and makes the car so beautiful ! I have so much appreciation for the art work in this car that I buy two of them one coupe and one convertible! I still say that the 350Z is one of the best design in Japanese auto industry!
Very interesting approach, although I'm not sure about the rear, I still think it looks amazing. I'd love to see you redesigning Toyota Corolla AE-86 Trueno (hatchback), both front and back. I think that it is a very iconic car, it had pop-up headlights which would be a challenge to be redesigned up to today's safety standards and its overall shape would surely be an interesting canvas (including tail lights). The fact that you do very clean designs is another plus in this case. I hope that one day I'll see that on your channel! 😃
Overall, I really like what you did. Two things I think could be better: I think a more simplified graffical treatment between the wheels instead of the two wedges facing each other would work better. Also, I don't think the dual LED lights(top and bottom strips) are working.
Interesting that you have that black triangle in the corner of the side window near the A-pillar, that triangle is usually used to hold the side-mirrors, but on your design, the side mirror is bolted straight to the door, the triangle is therefore useless
Finally someone appreciating the 350's design and even preferring it to the 370's, as I do. That being said, this z32 redesign has an Audi rear and generic uninspired headlights. The original ones were special enough for Lamborgini, mind you. Should have gone in that direction imho.
Some interesting elements, but that C-pillar lacks the impact of the 240, 300 or 400z-like it tried to combine a bit of everything. Never liked how inboard the 300zx headlights felt, the narrowness here too makes it less aggressive (as some said a Saturn)
Loving this redesign oh the Nissan 300zx you started putting vents in the hood then backed off , l think you should've kept then in , the hood is vast enough to take them . The rear treatment works great 👍 👌 😀
"I dont like this spoiler, im just gonna do a clean cut here." Well yeah you dont like it from design perspective but it was put there by engineers ultimatively.
I think it would've been cooler if you had used headlights from a modern Lamborghini for this version, as that's what kind of lightbuckets that the original had.
I love it and as a fanatic of the 300zx you did a nice job on the redesign. A couple of things are bugging me ( rear valance proportion and the side mirrors being a couple) . Still a Nissan I would consider buying g

So in reality your phrase should’ve said the 300ZX headlights that Lamborghini requested to apply to the Diablo design. Other than that I love all your videos keep up the great work.

agreed. He also needs to work on that grille. it just looks tacked on there.
Yuss so true
It’s very flat too
The 300ZX in your comparison photos is the 2+2, the two seater had a shorter wheelbase, affecting the proportions.
Agree
hate 2+2
I love the 2+2 I own one never liked the short 2 seater I'd rather put the twin turbo and manual transmission in the 2+2
2+2’s have always looked infinitely worse than the 2 seater. It’s a shame he didn’t notice
