Always enjoy Peter Skellern and managed to get hold of the Oasis CD many years ago. Been in love with Mary Hopkin since I was about 12! Thanks for sharing this lovely video.

Wonderful as ever.......and to think that she's 59/60 years old here.

This CD of Oasis is absolutely wonderful. I love Mary's voice, I love the cello.
Both together, this is magic. The singing on this song, duet with Peter, sounds to me like a difficult task. Pity they only made 1 CD

RIP Peter Skellern, some beautiful music, this one being one of my favourites.

Both Mary and Peter Skellern collaborated on the Blade Runner soundtrack. Mary sang Rachel's Song and Peter co-wrote One More Kiss, Dear with Vangelis.

I've been a fan since 1968 --when I was 15. I'd already been a MAJOR Beatles fan but in '68 (around the same time The White Album came out) I heard on the radio in NY where I lived a dj talk about this new artist that McCartney had brought to Apple--then they played "Those Were The Days" that Macca wrote for her--mind you, I hadnt yet SEEN Mary (on the 45 cover jacket which I hadnt bought yet) but I'd never heard a voice so pure--loved her ever since. I'm glad you all do too:)

Bless them for experimenting with this music together, a true super group! :)

I first learn about her in a 45 small LP from Apple containing the "Sparrow" which I realy liked. It was about 7 years ago? I did some search for her and then almost forgot her, since I couldn't find many songs etc (only the "those were the days" and another). Now I discover all this wonderfull job of her. Thanks really. I found her again in a very interesting situation...

This whole album was great and should have received more attention. It was probably a few years ahead of its time. Thanks for uploading these!

Thanks for posting. A brilliant LP. A supergroup for the hip Radio 2 generation. Pity the album was not followed up. Peter Skellern followed it with a couple of albums (Lovelight and Stardust Memories) and these are worth seeking out plus his albums that preceded this.
Shame to read interviews with Mary afterwards regarding this group and her unhappiness, as to me the sound is absolutely perfect

Yes brilliant music. what was the nature of the 'unhappiness'?

I will, Thank you (Skellern and Mary seemed to have had a nice vocal blend together) ..and Pat, I believe you when you say her version of the old standard "True Love" sounds beautiful--even George Harrison did a version of it in the post-Beatle era (on his "331/3" album)and I even think Mary made mincemeat of Doris Day when she covered her "Que Sera, Sera" LOL--come to think of it, Mary could sing the PHONEBOOK and make it sound good LOL

'...Days' was not written by McCartney but it was produced by Paul McCartney. An American called Gene Raskin (who sang with the "limelighters" and who recorded it first) wrote the lyrics for the song "Those were the days" and used the melody only from a song called "Dorogoy dlinnoyu" ("By a long road" or "along a long road") which was written by the Russian song writer Boris Fomin with words by the poet Konstantin Podrevskii

If you can get hold of a copy of 'Oasis' by 'Oasis' it would be worth it, There are some really beautiful songs on there sung by Mary remember the classic 'True love' her vocals on that are amazing...
    Bye for now

The Japanese release of that CD is quite interesting to compare to the European one.
The sound quality is much better, close to perfection.
Also some sounds were missing on the other version

    Hey, Pat
"Julian LLoyd Webber" -- > any relation to Andrew Lloyd Webber?
Julian has similar looks & a similar voice to the master.

yes, I stand corrected--I almost forgot that it was an old Russian tune. I prefer "Goodbye", which I'm fairly certain Macca penned (got his demo of that song as well) Still have my original "Postcard" vinyl Lp from Mary (but later got the cd re-issue LOL) "Goodbye", "Sparrow", "Temma Harbour" and her b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l
"Fields of St. Etienne" are my faves of hers--(ps: I like this Oasis song--I never heard it b4)

Same here, but we rushed out and spent an absolute fortune on a CD player because we found out it was being released on CD as well as vinyl. So we had a really expensive piece of equipment and 1 solitary CD to play on it! LOL
