My father passed away a few years ago. I recently found one of his fishing poles and the anti-reverse did not work due to unhooked spring. Thanks to your video it is fixed. Now I have another wonderful memory of my dad. Thank you.
I'm so glad this couldve helped. My best memories with my dad were of being on the water. He worked a lot and was... out a lot... but we had those memories and I know that's why I have this passion today. Tight lines my friend
*Nice reel so far **enjoyable.fishing** recommend used it for about an hour after getting it from Amazon and functioned flawlessly. Very smooth retrieve and the anti reverse is perfect. Feels like a reel that would be double the price.*
I was able to fix my reel with the instructions you presented in the video. I was thinking it couldn't be fixed and almost threw my reel out before I saw your video. You saved me money which is helpful with prices on everything going up. Thanks for doing this.
I spent 2 hours to find and fix the problem and I opened UA-cam I searched and this video came up and In just 5 minutes I fixed my reel the video it was very helpful thanks man
I actually had another reel I was going to use for the loose bushing example but it had hot glue in it, lol... I was a teenager when I did that... young and naive and no UA-cam to guide me
I love UA-cam. It’s videos like this that make it so great. Thanks man. I am terrible at fixing things but I was able to fix my busted reel with this video.
Thank you so much. I was about to throw my Pflueger President away and get a new one. Not only did you save me 60-70 bucks... you allowed me to catch some more monsters on this reel. You rock. Tight lines 🤙🤙
My Okuma Trio spinning reel would reverse during a hooked fish - big carp - and found your video. The spring was good. The bearing was slipping. I used Gel Super Glue smeared thin around the bearing carrier. Good to go. Let's see what the Carp think about it now. Thanks!
I think my Quantum Energy PTi is doing the same thing. It slips every time I set the hook. It's too nice a reel to junk. It started when I tried to use braided line, so I thought the line was just slipping on the spool. I went back to mono and still had the same issue. I'll try this and see how it goes.
OMG you are a life saver!! My problem was the second one.... Thought the reel was just going to be going in the garbage. My local tackle shop wouldn't even help me. My only complaint is that the video was a bit out of focus on the small components part.... so it was hard to see. But it all worked out Thanks!
Thank you so much for the kind words and the much deserved constructive criticism. I've been hoping to re-do this vid with a decent camera but money is super tight. I'm so glad it helped though!
God, I've lost count of the number of reels this has happened to. Can't afford new ones anymore, so time to have a bash at fixing them. Thanks for making it look suspiciously easy.
Thanks my friend. I had a reel I was about to toss in the garbage. Watched your video and discovered the spring had sprung. I toom a spring out of a pen, it was way too big, but I doubled the spring and it has corrected teh problem 100%. Thank you for posting this.
Mate, your video was so helpful, I thought I was gonna have to buy a new reel, I pulled it apart and sure enough, that tiny spring had popped off, it was a bit of a pain to get it back on but in less than a 2 mins the reel was fixed… thanks heaps man..
Dude, thank you so much...I have a Browning spinning reel that I really love and it had Problem # 2. I never would have guessed that your solution was the problem. Awesome!
Thanks so much, I recently inherited my great-great-grandfather’s fishing pole and tackle box and the reel had the same issue do to the unhooked spring. Thanks so much again for your help!
Very informative video. I was having a anti-reverse button problem on my Rapala Arachnid 5000. Opened it up and I had the two issues! The spring was off the switch and then the silver ring was slipping a bit off the tooth gear so I used a potent glue and it hold quite nicely. Thanks a lot!
OK in 2021 your video is STILL helping people! TY for this I was able to fix my Black Max reel (Problem #1) in about 5 minutes and I thought it was doomed. Thanks again in 2021!
Thank you for responding so quickly I really appreciate you from what you told me I saw the post and I got it done I had to Spring backwards so the real kept spinning both ways now it spins one way the way it's supposed to had a rope tied around the pole and a handle to stop it from moving not anymore thank you very much God bless
I know it’s been a while since ya made the video you saved me from trashing a very nice quantum p t I my wife and kids got me for Father’s Day years ago I sent it to BassPro for repair but they sent it back I used j b weld and it fixed it Thank you.
Great instructions! I'm comfortable taking things apart, but without this video I would've neither identified nor known how to fix my reel's issue (#2). Thanks for helping me save my favorite reel!
Thank U. I will try to fix one of my fave Okuma spinning reels tomorrow. Like this reel for pulling spinners as it is pretty fast retrieve and smooth handling. Was very disappointed when the anti-reverse quit working.
Thank you do much I just fixed my reel that small tiny spring how annoying what if you completely lost that spring what can you use as a replacement just out of curiosity because my spring while trying to fix it part of it broke off
As an addition to the video, for those who do use JB Weld, after one hour, make sure you scrape off any excess weld that is inside the bearing/gear. It will peel off like rubber cement, and allows the glue to remain just inside the cylinder, and not hunk up the works. Great tutorial, and a pretty easy DIY for saving some $ on sending a reel in for service.
Thanks I saw the workings apparently I just had to move the spring a bit to get it to work properly I could tell it was supposed to be on the flat side not the point because there was a corrosion mark where it's at I will be cleaning and moving the reel innards good video
After watching 42 videos today trying to figure out WHY my handle won't turn... I realized ... IM GONNA HAVTA VIDEO THE DISASSEMBLY TO GET IT BACK TOGEHER CORRECTLY! Thank 4 ur vid
Help! I have a Abu Garcia Ile Dude reel. It doesn't have an antireverse switch. It has a cheap plastic piece that is supposed to be the antireverse lock. Well they break. Anything else I can use? Can the reel be used without it?
I'm honestly not entirely sure about that particular model or the antireverse lock. If you are interested in replacing the plastic lock though you should be able to find a parts list online and order the piece. I imagine you can definitely still use the reel, but just be aware it will back reel if given the chance. I learned somewhat recently that some people prefer to turn the antireverse off and rely on backreeling instead of drag to fight a fish. It's an option. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help!
wondering if you can help, i have a shimano fx200 and i noticed the rotor head appears to have some play ,idk if this is from wear n tear or designed like that, but since it has the quick fire trigger thing for opening the bail it might be no longer as smooth operating as it should be or might be doing more damage when using it since there is possibly too much play in the rotor head ,i dont think its possible to remove the head or fix this issue as i see no screws or nuts to do this, will it come off if i remove the gears or the main arbor(ie post)?
thanks. yea i don't have many prob with them but the anti on the back side if the reel i do. I'm fighting with one now it worked i took apart to greese omg they sold me wrong stuff it was so thick. i have to take apart clean the best i could and sprayed lithium grease inside to fix. took a while being i had no cleaner to get old greese out but charcoal lighter fluid it worked with some stuff a guy had for greese. but i got the reverse kinda fixed. it had 3 settings. stop or stops back at the trigger spot or not at all. well only 2 work. I'll try to fix again later. but it's a brim reel i ain't to worried. but good video thanks god bless
Thank you so much..... I just got a reel and the last situation is the one that am facing... Thank you again.. I found the problem right.. but i thought i had to buy a new gear wheel
my reel thats called the anti reverse clutch spring. the regular antireverse spring is a little piece of metal that bent at a 45 degree angle. i dont know how it popped out on me. that said idk how it goes back in against the clutch switch. cant find anything on it. was wondering if you have seen thoes before and if you know how to put it in. megacast mct10. part 41 i think on the diagram

I have a Shakespeare cirrus similar to the first reel. Is there more than one spring in there because I couldn't really see but I took mine apart and there is one spring that's attached to the actual switch and it's all there and my reverse still does not work I've cleaned everything I'm wondering if there is supposed to be another spring that I could not tell from this video as you are not close enough to the reel with the camera for me to see any detail
I've got the same shakespeare reel but my anti reverse stopped working all of a sudden I've taken it apart and the spring is still in place any ideas what else it could ? Tried to find more vids on your channel with this Shakespeare reel but couldnt find any
Thank you all for the views on this!! I truly hope it was helpful!
Yes it definitely was! 100%

I have to check my fishing rods , I didn’t know they had anti reverse in them .
My deepest condolences to you and your family
5 years later and this video saved me from buying another reel, thank you.
I am so glad to hear that. You're very welcome!
Same thing here

I love taking reels apart, you learn a lot and/or break a lot. I don't ruin as many as I used to.
I actually had another reel I was going to use for the loose bushing example but it had hot glue in it, lol... I was a teenager when I did that... young and naive and no UA-cam to guide me
I just ruined mine like 2 seconds ago
One of the most informative and well presented UA-cam instructions I have come across for any issue
By far the kindest compliment I've received on this channel. Thank you:)
Definitely some very helpful video! Thank you very much! Maybe a little better lighting is all i could suggest!
I love UA-cam. It’s videos like this that make it so great. Thanks man. I am terrible at fixing things but I was able to fix my busted reel with this video.
Dude, I've never left a comment ever...but you just nailed down my issue exactly, thanks for the great tutorial.
So glad to hear it! And it really means a lot that you took the time to comment! Thank you! Tight lines my friend!
OMG.😯 I was ready to trash my favorite reel now I'm back in action thanks buddy.
So glad to hear it man! Tight lines!
Thank you so much. I was about to throw my Pflueger President away and get a new one. Not only did you save me 60-70 bucks... you allowed me to catch some more monsters on this reel. You rock. Tight lines 🤙🤙
So glad it helped, and fantastic reel choice!

Thanks for making it look suspiciously easy.
6 year old video but saved my life.. thanks 👍🏼🔥
1st video I've ever seen with this many views and no dislikes. Thanks for the info. Very helpful! Well done.
Just potentially saved me from replacing a shimano stella spinning reel. That’s $1000 I did not want to have to spend. Thanks man!
Thanks my friend. I had a reel I was about to toss in the garbage. Watched your video and discovered the spring had sprung. I toom a spring out of a pen, it was way too big, but I doubled the spring and it has corrected teh problem 100%. Thank you for posting this.

Thank you. Bought a new reel and this happened after about 5 uses. I wasn't really sure what to search for, but I'm glad I found this. Tytyty!!
7:00 Excelent video. Was able to fix my reel by your second example. Thank you for sharing and Fish On.
Thanks for posting, I never knew. I have a small box full of reels with the same problem. Looks like I will be busy.
Another great video brother. One of my favorite channels!
Thank you so much man!
Dude, thank you so much...I have a Browning spinning reel that I really love and it had Problem # 2. I never would have guessed that your solution was the problem. Awesome!
I'm so glad it helped! That one took me a few reels to realize I didn't have to keep buying a new one
Thanks so much, I recently inherited my great-great-grandfather’s fishing pole and tackle box and the reel had the same issue do to the unhooked spring. Thanks so much again for your help!

I'm currently on vacation and ran into this problem. Thank you for the video I got the real repaired and back in action!
*reel
Awesome video. Tiny misaligned spring on my switch was causing my anti reverse issue.
Very helpful, 1st repair helped, stayed for the 2nd to get more smarter!! Thanks

Thank you, Saved me the expense of a new reel.
Great video thanks a ton! You helped me fixed my reel this morning! I got lucky and it was the first (easier) situation to fix with the spring =)
Awesome, glad to hear it man!
We’re new at fishing and I knew this pole was supposed to lock. Thanks for helping! I’ll be fixing it.
I know it’s been a while since ya made the video you saved me from trashing a very nice quantum p t I my wife and kids got me for Father’s Day years ago I sent it to BassPro for repair but they sent it back I used j b weld and it fixed it Thank you.

Thank you! I'm so glad it helped!
My reel just started doing the same thing today, going to try this fix soon@ thanks for the video!
Thanks so much, I ran into the issue in part 2, fixed with JB weld!
I could use that to hold the spring, perhaps a drop of Super Glue.
Thank U. I will try to fix one of my fave Okuma spinning reels tomorrow. Like this reel for pulling spinners as it is pretty fast retrieve and smooth handling. Was very disappointed when the anti-reverse quit working.
It was the spring and the loop was too stretched to be able to hook it around the post.
My spring was busted, took a pen spring, had to cut it down a bit, but it worked fine. Thanks!
Hey, Do you mind telling me exactly where the spring goes? Im having a little trouble seeing where it is... Thank you
Just watched and thank you so much it helped and made my dad not mad at me for braking it
Haha, so glad it helped on both fronts!
Fixed. Thanks. Only watched half but you got me there!
Awesome man, so glad it helped!
Thank you do much I just fixed my reel that small tiny spring how annoying what if you completely lost that spring what can you use as a replacement just out of curiosity because my spring while trying to fix it part of it broke off
Hi, what's that JB fuel JB oil you used at 8:31 called? I never have one of those so I really need it to fix my problem with anti-reverse
It's called JB weld. There are a few varieties, make sure metal is listed as a bonding surface on the package
Thanks I just got my first spinning reel I’ve had other reels but the reverse lock broke and now I can fix it.
Good deal.... appreciate the time you took to video that. My Wally Marshall micro reel can be fixed! That's gonna save me some money!

@@TheFishinDad got any advice for cleaning spincast reels? I used my zebcos at the coast a couple times, so now they're all full of sand and salt.
Thanks!! You just helped me save my favorite reel!! (problem #2 is what I had)
Just fixed a Quantum with the “no brake” issue using method #2. Great video, thank you!
As an addition to the video, for those who do use JB Weld, after one hour, make sure you scrape off any excess weld that is inside the bearing/gear. It will peel off like rubber cement, and allows the glue to remain just inside the cylinder, and not hunk up the works. I fixed mine thanks to your video. Thanks!
Thanks I saw the workings apparently I just had to move the spring a bit to get it to work properly I could tell it was supposed to be on the flat side not the point because there was a corrosion mark where it's at I will be cleaning and moving the reel innards good video

Hi! I tried it out yesterday! I just use a Velcro strip so it won't back up while transporting and it works fine. No backlash or tangles. Thanks!

Brilliant video! Thanks so my much! Beautifully explained. 😁👍🏻
my reel thats called the anti reverse clutch spring. the regular antireverse spring is a little piece of metal that bent at a 45 degree angle. i dont know how it popped out on me. that said idk how it goes back in against the clutch switch. cant find anything on it. was wondering if you have seen thoes before and if you know how to put it in. megacast mct10. part 41 i think on the diagram
Amazing and easy to follow. I have been using this broken reel for 2 years. It's all good now!!
I just bought a reel from the thrift store and I didn't know what was going on with it but I came acrossed this and im going to see if that's what the problem is. Thanks lol. I thought I waisted $7
There should only be one spring. I'm stumped on that one.
Thanks, you're easy to follow.
Excellent video!!
