Speech impediment? What impediment? I myself suffer with a stammer/stutter but the last 20yrs have pushed myself out my boundaries doing jobs I enjoy. Having been a doorman/bouncer for 10yrs, a bailiff for 5yrs and now working for the ambulance service here in the uk working my way up to a paramedic at the age of 43 with a speech impediment, everything is possible! Yes I was bullied in school for it, and in the 90s took it all the wrong way and turned to drink and drugs. Now clean for 20yrs and sober I’m enjoying life but still with depression relapses. Only just got into mountain biking, and love watching your videos along Seth’s bike hacks and GMBN here in the uk. Keep up the great work. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
I realize I’m late to the party on this video... I couldn’t sleep so I turned on the ol’ UA-cam and found this gem! Thanks for addressing some of these absurd question Phil and Hailey; shows your strength of character and I LOVE IT! During this time of isolation and quarantine, I’m finding this content refreshing, down to earth and super informative! Keep up the great work and I for one would love to see more Hailey! If this question doesn’t get answered (I’m going to ask a question...) then no big deal. If it does, then I’ll be better for it! Phil, in your experience, was there a break through moment where you were riding one day and did something and thought, “you know what, I’m getting this and I can tell I’m getting better!” Secondly, Haley (please chime in here) how did you know when you were ready for a proper trail like Whistler?
I actually started watching your videos because I thought the blue Evil was a sick unique bike that I have not seen others use and I enjoyed the way you sound in your videos. It was different, it got my attention, and then I realized what a great channel I stumbled upon.
Old mtb racer (x country) 60 next month, just wanted you to know some of us old guys enjoy your channel! Good attitudes from both of you. Also the fact that you encourage other riders and especially the young guys and gals. On creaks: If you have not had one that is just so, so hard to find and when you do, that you put up with it for too long, you have not put in enough time in the saddle (off road). It is a rite of passage for a mountain biker (brakes, seatposts, pivot points, seats, peddles, bushings, bearings, bottom brackets, peddles on and on ha ha ha).
Phil, I love the channel and watch you of most of all MTB channels. I dream of riding half as good as you and love to hear how much hype you have as you rip down the trails. You have definitely helped my progression and drive with my riding ability. Keep up the awesome vids and maybe I’ll catch you on the trails one day!
I’m a loyal subscriber and have been for a year or so. And ya, your speaking cadence is different. I’m an introvert and feel socially awkward at times but throw me in a boardroom in front a bunch of executives and I couldn’t be more confident. It’s the differences each of us have that many makes us who we are. Embrace it. Too many people fall into depression and are always unhappy striving to be like someone else who they feel they want to be but don’t see that they are better the way they are if only they could find their inner confidence. The negative commenters need to ask themselves... “If putting others down makes me feel better, what does that say about who I am?” It’s not funny. Sure as hell doesn’t make you “cool”. The two of you are really putting yourselves out there. I don’t think I could do it. I for one thank you for the entertaining videos and honestly for what you’ve taught me. Keep doing what your doing with that great passion.
I think your voice is awesome. It's uniquely you and part of what makes up your individuality. Haters are just a side effect of success. The more successful you are, the more they pop up.
Phil, keep sharing your passion with others. I found your channel 1 month ago looking for biking channels. Your speech/accent is nothing more than being a NE cat. Don't apologize for being you. We are all imperfect in some way. Great channel coming from a guy that runs road, gravel and never do what you do....30 years ago F'n eh I'd be right there! Ignore the dirt that's not on the trail.
I just started MTB this year and have been watching everything I can find on you tube. I’ve seen a bunch of your stuff but some of the more flashy GMB and related channels seemed to get my attention more . . . Until I watched this video. I had no idea who you or Haley were. What your story was. Where you lived. I feel like I know you guys now and love the fact that your just two normal people loving life, doing what you enjoy. I had no idea you’ve been doing this so long. I’m a fan.
Phil your videos rock because you have skill with MTB, videography and teaching ability! You both are quite entertaining and hence deserve your roles! Keep it up!
There’s no question your difficulty in articulation is a big part of your charm. I too was thrown off at first. However after watching over 50 Skills videos I fully get it. We are all mid 60s rippers and total fans. Love your style!
Hey Phil I’m 15yo and I also deal with a speech impediment I have always loved mtbing and I love to see someone that is a little more “ like me” out there sending thanks for the inspiration bro!
I like you two - you are so warm and friendly with each other and others. :) Plus, you guys are rad. When I get good, I want to ride like Haley. Happy Birthday!
So many great topics you guys talked about. About the voice thing, you guys obviously have got unique voices.... and it's awesome. I mean I watch your videos for the content but the unique voices are just another splash of colour on already thought provoking master piece. Keep up the rad work.
Hey Phil, I have a question that came to me a while after watching your series on the downhill race you did a few months ago. As an experienced racer, when someone like Loic Bruni beats you by ~20 seconds, do you have a good sense of where he found that time? Having seen your POV, It's baffling to me how anyone could go so much faster.
It’s an accumulation of fractions of seconds. At the us open I got a 3:13 and he got a 3:01 or something like that. I know one area where I lost 2 seconds, but a lot of the rest of the time is made up by small details, less braking, better technique, etc adds up quickly
@@SkillsWithPhil Ah, I see. So it isn't surprising to you. That also helps me to put into perspective how consistent Loic Bruni is. Thanks for the reply!
tdfh1 they call this the sum of marginal gains. Not one big reason or rhyme, but rather a culmination of things where a rider was FRACTIONALLY better in all or some areas than another. As a non-pro or someone not doing this 24/7, they all look the same at that level. Snowshoe DH this year was a perfect example of this. SO many good riders and seemingly great runs, but there’s only one podium.
Everyone has their unique qualities. Your voice may be one but so are you freaking epic skills!! Keep up the fantastic work man I'm happy that you're thriving :)
The explanation of your voice makes so much sense now! I've always thought you had a very Canadian sounding accent. I assume I was picking up on your French accent/impediment. Nevertheless, your voice is very unique to you and by no means does it take away from your character or your riding. Love your videos, keep doing you:)
Always wondered about the way you talk. Honestly one of the things that made me like your channel early on. Had a lot of speech problems growing up due to poor muscle tone and while I can pronounce my R's correctly now, I do occasionally slur my words a bit or stutter. The slurring is subtle and sounds kind like how you talk. Mtb is one of the things I do to help with the fact that I just totally lack motor control and coordination so it's nice to see people just putting themselves out there because I've always been self conscious of how I speak and also of doing any physical activity. The two are kind of linked for me. The mtb community is awesome and really different than any community around a physical activity that I've ever seen.
I tried the chin mount once I saw you do it on your video and result is great! Any other mounting position does not reflect riders point of view in my opinion. I use Poc coron helmet and I was lucky enough to be able just to stick sticky gopro mount to chin on that helmet.
Phil, you and I speak similarly. Sort of weird because I’ve never even been to France lol. I’ve always thought I’ve been so involved thinking that I forget to fully articulated words. It’s something I HAVE to focus on to do correctly. It’s no big deal though! Everyone who knows me just knows it’s how I am. Keep cranking out the videos man, I can’t get enough of them!
You two are awesome. My partner and I learning loads from your videos despite our different skill levels. Thanks heaps for putting these videos together and I'm so sorry people on the internet are jerks!!!
So I've been checking your stuff out lately and I'm very good at detecting speech impediments and I gotta say, it really is something that I thought of at all until I watched your earlier stuff. So you clearly have gotten a lot better, which I'm happy for!
Hey Phil, can you do another manual video? I watched your how to manual and wheelie videos. I am amazed at the progress that you have made with your manuals.....I'm hoping maybe something you've learned will help my manuals......Thanks
Phil, dude you both speak perfectly fine and clear. My girlfriend and I enjoy watching you two and while maybe we notice the voices, we didn’t think twice about it. Heck, maybe we talk different too! Anyways, keep being you and making the great edits you make. And, if you ever get out to Oregon, let me know! Word!
Phil- thank you for making all these videos! I just moved back to Southern NH for the first time in decades, bought a Giant Stance (wishing I held out for a GT now), and have been trying to find the time to relearn how to ride. Watching your vids gets me pumped to get out. And I gotta say I didn’t notice any speech impediment til perhaps the third or fourth vid… so what. Everyone is different, all good brother. Those people who make fun or give you a hard time are just jealous that you’re superhuman on a bike;). The only reason it’s hard to understand some of your words is cuz your flying down a mountain at 30 mph and you’re huffing like a freight train- understandable! Can you recommend a place I can ride to ease back into trail /mountain riding with some technical stuff? I’m in Manchester currently. I hope to see you and the misses out on the trail someday. Thanks again man.
I honestly like when Hailey is in your videos. It's great when you go back and forth between your runs and tbo your so fast sometimes it's good to show a regular mountain bikers point of view .. it sucks that some people will say negative things, but don't listen to them, just keep doing what your doing.. its working

You two are so humble and alot of your clips have helped with my own riding. Always looking forward to the next adventure. Big love from Australia!
just found your channel!! love it! you guys are the best. looking fwd to seeing a few more videos. all the best, Mike.
Hey Phil, my son and I dig your videos. We are just getting into the MTB life and your videos have become an evening ritual! Thanks!
Love you guys, don't ever stop being yourselves.
I would love to see u and sam pilgrim link up and Whistler and hit some jumps
Sam wouldnt keep up ;D
@@daanhart6498 as far as hitting jumps I think he could....u talk downhill racing Phil prob got him
@@seansegrue1299 - You're right man but, what's most important is that they'd do a cool colab video that would appeal to both their channel subs and it would no doubt be an epic video to watch.
@@djrouge3300 I agree 100% they both are the shizz

Mad respect for you guys going through all these both about your personal lives and your careers. You’re doing great!
You guys inspire us more than you realize...love watching you both ride. 🤙
Happy Birthday Haley!🎂🌹❤💕
I'm really liking the weekly videos. Thanks a lot!
Phill got send berm peak with seth in the snow that would be sick
Finn Veit he did the maim frame
I don't know if there's enough grade on Berm Peak for downhill fat biking like Berm Creek
I think your voice is awesome. It's uniquely you and part of what makes up your individuality. Haters are just a side effect of success. The more successful you are, the more they pop up.
Phil & Haley Thanks for the answer / question session. Always enjoy your videos and tutorials 👍🏻🚵🏻
I don't even have a bike and I love your channel! Haters are motivators so keep on shining!
Keep it up!
Ever considered coming up into Quebec? Lot of great trail systems, and Bromont is a gnarly place to test skills.
Love your videos! Thank you for what you do. Don’t worry about ppl that hate just know how many of us enjoy your vids, tips and watching you shred!
Im not even gonna lie Phil is one of the most well spoken and articulate people on youtube.
That was very entertaining...'Down Home With Hailey & Phil'. Oh, and Happy Birth Day, Hailey...
Yo Phil I love how your voice sounds I thought you might have speech inpedement but your voice sounds soothing also your videos are really good.
I like you two - you are so warm and friendly with each other and others. :)
Plus, you guys are rad.
Both of you voices and speech are fine, no worries. Have fun and enjoy riding!!!!
Thanks for asking people to call out shitty comments 😊
The GOPRO Chin Mount does make contact with my chest, but only walking around, Not riding my bike, just like phil said.
The bearings probably destroy quicker because all the big impacts they take from the jumps
Hey, just a thought, but you and haley seem perfect for each other :)
Not sure how I hadn't already seen this. One of the coolest guys on UA-cam... Thanks, Phil!
I wouldn't be able to articulate either with that badass mustache! ;) Keep the good work up! Love both of you (Including voices)
So I've been checking your stuff out lately and I'm very good at detecting speech impediments and I gotta say, it really is something that I thought of at all until I watched your earlier stuff. So you clearly have gotten a lot better, which I'm happy for!
Honestly, I like the speech thing. It makes Phil, Phil.
Hey Phil, can you do another manual video? I watched your how to manual and wheelie videos. I am amazed at the progress that you have made with your manuals.....I'm hoping maybe something you've learned will help my manuals......Thanks
What an amazing couple. You two make me smile every time. Keep it up and hopefully someday we can ride together!
"Kinda like rally car style" hell yeah
Zach McMenemy why does this sentence sound that stereotypically American? xD
@@hanswurst6864 nah man, Americans under appreciate rally. I wish, but it really isn't big here unfortunately
Relationship goal! Hayley's got the most wonderful voice ever too!
I like the way you speak. It's unique to you with an interesting cadence and emphasis in your sentences.
True
Phil, dude you both speak perfectly fine and clear. My girlfriend and I enjoy watching you two and while maybe we notice the voices, we didn’t think twice about it. Heck, maybe we talk different too! Anyways, keep being you and making the great edits you make. And, if you ever get out to Oregon, let me know! Word!
Salutations Fellow oregonian
You two are awesome. Come back to North Carolina. Pisgah is calling!
You are one unique dude. One of a kind. Not many can say that. ROCK ON!!!
I finally got to meet you today! Thanks for letting us session stuff at hellion today!
I honestly like when Hailey is in your videos. It's great when you go back and forth between your runs and tbo your so fast sometimes it's good to show a regular mountain bikers point of view .. it sucks that some people will say negative things, but don't listen to them, just keep doing what your doing.. its working
Hey Phil!! Greetings from Canada!! Dude, you rip the shit out of the trails!!! And I have really enjoyed your vids and seeing you and Haley shred!!! Keep it up!! I rode Whistler for 2 weeks this summer and just got back from 2 weeks in Moab. Seeing you OWN some of the same trails that I think that I ride pretty good is not only humbling but also keeps me striving to get better!! Keep it up and you da man bro!!!!!!!
I’m new to MTB and new to the channel, so I love the Q&A to get to know ya’ll a little better.
I wondered about the way Phil talked, the French accent answer explains some of that.
Bullies that pick on other people for how they are need to be punched in the throat!!
Anywho I'm 42 and your videos popped up on my feed and been watching ever since. Never thought I'd be riding a mtb but just bought my first bike 3 weeks ago.thank you for everything you do taking time to teach us and show us how to ride and into your life.
My question to you is does the stem length have alot to do with the ease of doing manuals?
blade junkie the shorter the stem the easier to manual- at least for me
I watched one minute of S with P and immediately searched “HIS VOICE” thank you for the explanation! Very cool!
adorable couple and exceptional mountain bikers....keep it up you two, love it!
