How to destroy a motorcycle engine....WITH JUST 4 TURNS!!

- Опубліковано 20 жов 2024
- In this video we decide to see if we can get our 1986 Yamaha IT200 dirt bike running. The IT200 is a 2 stroke enduro bike manufactured from 1984 - 1966. Ours is an incomplete motorcycle, and we may just dismantle it for parts, but still think it is worth the effort to attempt starting the engine. If it runs and rides we will know that the engine and transmission are in working order, and be able to sell individual parts knowing they are from a working machine.
Camera girl always has the best commentary.
Agreed
And the best legs.
@@vandeputalexandre244 that’s what I was going to say.
Maybe next time we’ll get a smile too!
@@vandeputalexandre244 :-0 ;-)
Oh well, the leg made it worth the watch
I'm glad to see your videos being posted on a more regular basis.
Why do I enjoy watching your videos so much the two of you make such a great team. I can't count how many years I've been watching you guys for now but it is definitely been a few. I'm a retired motorcycle shop owner and absolutely love watching the two of you tinker with these bikes. Camera girls voice makes me smile. Both of your smiles and voices could cure cancer. ❤
Trim the end of the crankshaft looks like you still have plenty of room to get the bolt back on if you trim the damaged area off and clean up the threads.
Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoy the channel!
My very first ever motorcycle ride lead me to a friend place a few miles from home. After a while we wanted to ride back to my home. But the engine didn't want to start. I had a word record of kick starts, making your performance looking a joke ...until the kick starter broke, pivot bolt worn out. Then we tried push start and we were completely exhausted when I realized the Killswitch was OFF. That was a good lesson, and 45 years later we still 😂 just thinking about it. I also learned a lot about lathe while makind a replacement bolt for the Kickstarter!😊
I have seen complete turds on marketplace for out of this world asking prices. At least you are honest and are offering machines for a reasonable price. You don't always win on every deal, but you will eventually get yours.
Most things on Facebook Marketplace are overpriced and under serviced with issues that are sometimes not disclosed.
You have a 1986 it200, those forks are very desirable, the only year Yamaha it that had a disc brake from factory, very nice bikes restored
Bloody knuckles and all, a true mechanic!
With really stuck flywheels like that, I've had luck by adding tension with the flywheel puller, then giving it some solid smacks with a hammer all the way around until it gives. Could also try adding some heat to loosen things up.
heat could destroy the magnets however, so be careful with that!
Adding some penetrating oil wouldnt hurt either
@some-fluffy-pupper same with the smacks 😂
You do not want to heat magnets.
You will permanently remove any magnetism.
The heat required to help with flywheel removal is well above the currie temperature of the magnets.
Good idea other than that.
@@mrbmp09 Depending on the level of heat. If you get it into close to operating temperature of the engine it will not ruin the magnets since its normally in those temps. Around 100C is still fine, specially if you dump that heat into center of the flywheel and dont let heat to go from the holes inside the flywheel where the coils are. Then rapidly cool the crank axle using oil and maybe peace of dry ice on top of the axle, while setting up the pullet, pull moderately while tapping the flywheel causing vibrations and repeating this up to dozen times until putting max that crank nub can take before deforming it should pop out.
Pulling from the sides is not good idea, just bends it inwards locking it more on the axle.
Also even if you remove the magnetism from the magnets, you should be able to find replacements since people do mess the flywheels and still might have them around to sell the magnets to you even if there is other damage on the flywheel it self. But that is more about luck and how common these are. Still, with out getting that flywheel out, this engine is just paper wright even though it would be working one once the timing is set correct.
I like the spreadsheets. I also like the business talk. Basically, I'm here for what you've got J&J. Thanks as always!
You and 2vintage need to do a collaboration video. The Kickstart Olympics.
Joe got this
Because of you I got into mini bikes, thanks for helping me get over engine trouble shooting
I learned so much from you! Now I don't feel so scared when working with motorcycles and also - I feel that there is always a solution for a problem :)
Thank you for being active again and wish you best!
😊 best to you and your family. Thanks for updates. Love hearing from ya.
I always enjoy seeing your custom gas tanks 😂
You gave it the ol' college try... sender on down the road in parts! Keep 'em coming!!
I'm so glad it's not only me doing the mistakes! Great video!!!
Great diagnostic work!
UA-cam should award the "BEST SHOW AWARD" to this 2 always a pleasure to watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When I pulled the stator on my Honda TLR200, I gave the bolt a few taps with a 4lb sledge hammer once I got a bit of torque on it. Then, I tightened it more, tapped it, and it popped right off.
The crank is already messed up at this point. If you have a dremel or grinder, you may be able to grind down the mushroomed portion and pop it off. That's a bit of wishful thinking on my part, probably, but it's a thought. Good ending or not so good ending, I always enjoy watching your videos. You two seem to be one of the more genuine channels I see with how you two joke and goof around with each other and the audience, and nothing feels forced or fake for the sake of content. Maybe whoever buys the bike (if you decide to part or sell it whole) will get it running and send a video or see it in person. That'd be cool
The first bike I had to get the flywheel off of was a TTR125 that was locked up and I was learning to rebuild. I had so much torque I did the exact same thing. But I didn't know what to do so left the puller on it overnight; the next morning we heard a BANG! The thing released after sitting with the tension on it. I have since learned that if I encounter one that won't come off, put some tension on it, not too much, and then hit it with the propane torch and it will pop off. Heat is your friend on anything stuck! You could probably get a die and fix that; it's not too awful bad yet; I had split the end of the one on the TTR125, and the crank was seized anyway so I got a cheap one from China and rebuilt the thing. It's been 4 years and it still runs. I bought new bearings (aside from the crank bearings) from mfg so it cost a lot, but I've since learned all bearings are stamped with a number and you can use that number to find identical sized bearings and so for rebuilding you can just go to ebay and buy good Japanese Koyo or NSK bearings far cheaper than OEM. All that to say if you really want, I bet you can still get that flywheel off and get it running!
I once sold a house in Ogden, UT and then promptly pulled up the old dingy carpet with the new owner to find absolutely perfect original hardwood floors with bison hide covers on the steps. Live and learn.
What does your story have to do with a broken motorcycle?
@@billbillinger2491 It's a reference to the TW200. He could have gotten more for the house if he knew it had beautiful hardwood floors under the nasty carpets. But only found out after he sold it.
@@Slane583now i need a tw200 with hardwood floors
@@vwluis Only the finest TW200 hardwood floors shall be had. Best make sure they're Magnogany or some type of Burle. 😂
@@Slane583 Yes, but once you've tried a roasted birdseye maple TW200, you kinda only want to go for that.
You 2 are really good to watch so glad your back to regular videos
Much respect for honoring your deal on the 200 for $300. 👍
I laugh so much with you guys. The part where camera girl was lying casually during the hard kick session was perfect!
“Fire up the ole time machine!” 😂😂😂
Love your guys videos…watching all the way from across the country in Pennsylvania
i must say, you have the best camera girl ever seen on youtube to date.
Noooo, this ending is so sad. This feels like giving up , but you guys never give up.
Camera girl becoming a "cam" girl with that leg shot. 😀. Love the commentary.
I love your personalities, you guys bring joy to something so boring and everyday to me. keep being awesome guys :)
I'm so happy to see you guys have been uploading regularly again!
Leaking carb, handle bar mounted fuel reservoir and the spark arrestor removed. So glad your luck held… definitely time for a lottery ticket this week. ;D stay safe.
Thanks for sharing. Take care you two.
You know there are a lot of ways to get the job done. But I will say you definitely have your own style.
I have a 81 yz250 which had a stuck flywheel and ended up bending the crankshaft also. I found a machinist who was able to fix the shaft on a lathe. Lost a few threads but it still worked. Thanks!
This video is 70% kicking 😂. I have loved your videos for years. I’m happy you guys are uploading regularly.
Man, you are persistent! My leg is cramping up just watching!
You sure do inspire a lot of people man
Well, I was entertained. I expected that beast to light up! You were thinking and trying hard.
Although all you videos are entertaining, I always enjoy a video more when you work on getting something working and rebuilt. Whatever format you choose though, I'll still watch. 😊
That's a shame! I had high hopes, despite the title, when I first saw smoke coming from the exhaust. Can't win em all! I love your perseverance regardless. We might need a right leg left leg calf comparison after that workout.
You are getting close to "explosion". Don't stop now. You will be very "comfortable".
I personally have loved your videos from the start.
Well, at least Daniel is happy! You can't win them all! Wishing you success on the 250R!
As always, extremely educational and fun. Love you guys, and by that I mean, we love camera girl. We like you, but we love camera girl.
Great video. You guys together are the best.
You're definitely on the right track you're doing a great job keep up the great work camera girl LOL
Oh no! I wanted a happy ending to this! This is the first time I can recall you not successfully getting something up & running! I know that's how life works, but it leaves me bummed 😣! I love your videos and I look forward to the next one. I bet you'll fair better in the next!
Subscribed solely because camera girl was giving you crap 😂 and I love motorcycle repair videos
Awesome you guys are back on the grind and making videos... I remember when your channel first started and I would watch it religiously haha and now I get to watch again... keep up with the good work! 🤙🏍
16:59 i’ve done this before and i just chopped the enf of the threads of because there was more then enough threads left over.
Als try hitting the puller tool woth a hammer doesn’t matter which side you hit it but sometimes the vibration is all that it needs to break loose.
Way back in history, someone had similarily hesitant motorcycle. Several kicking sessions resulted in invention of a bicycle, a revolutionary two wheeled vehicle utilizing the kicking power of the passenger.
Yep camera girls legs were way more interesting that that carb 😂
Love seeing you guys being active while producing QUALITY content👍 keep it up
I watch your videos and say, "OK. Ya. I remember that. Yup. I saw that before."
(I rode an H1 500 to Loudon in 1983, heyday of the Honda Interceptor 750 V4.)
We camped out around the track. Can't do that anymore. I jumped the mandatory
jump with my H1 500 and then rode it back to CT. I had to tie my kickstand up with my shoelace because the spring went "south" after the 14 ft jump. Ah, the good old days.
Yes sir steady at it again love to see it brotha keep up the work
Future reference, If it doesn’t start in 20 kicks, something’s not right, save the ol leg haha!
great video like always ---keep them coming
I think we know the damage was done before you got it, but it's always worth a try though. And it was a nice, smooth..... video lol.
Love your videos you guys give me joy!
Just a tip for pulling flywheels, tighten the puller so theres some tension on it then whack the end of the puller with a ball peen or small sledge hammer, you can hit the flywheel too but use a dead blow or mallet or else you'll break the magnets inside. Excited to see your next projects!
Just When I Was Getting Into The Video, It Ended. You Had me On The Edge Of My Seat. You Cracked me Up When You Said, " You Don't Need A Fuel Gauge ". LOL. Great Video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That IT is a sweet bike, somebody took care of it before letting it sit to rot. The rubbers are still between the heat fins, that pipe is pristine, no dents at all. too bad about that crank or i would say its a rescue bike, but your right, its parts now
Been there!! Well, not AS bad... but I've botched the end of a crank before. Success or not, glad to see a video!
That thing was hoopajooped before you got it. It wouldn't run with the flywheel 180 out and the crank was already smoked from the previous work done on it. Once it started to bend, all integrity was lost. That was probably someone just starting to learn how to work on small engines. Lord knows we all have some damage in our past. ;) Great sleuthing as usual. Camera girl rocks as usual.
Yes! Finally a new video :)
12:00 ....Heat up the old spark plug with a torch to get it to Fire....and Yes...we would much rather see Camera Girl's legs then the bike, haha. Another great video....thank you.
Put tension on the flywheel with the puller and whack it with a hammer, rust loosener also helps, and the cut the end of the crankshaft of with an angle grinder, if you're a bit careful you can save it, or at least get to the stator
If you could get it off just grind the bad section out of the bolt try putting some heat on it with a propane torch! regardless always great to see you and camera girl doing your videos! God Bless...
Wow you went from a carburetor channel to a cardio channel.
Looks like there's enough threads on there, you could cut off the mushed up part
Love the videos...keep them coming...you 2 are great!
I've had many, many two stokes in the past. Never had much luck trying to clean oil fouled spark plugs.New is the way to go.
Me neither . Just like Honda evry Honda bike or quad I’ve had soon as the plug fouled out they stop running and never had luck cleaning them they just never worked or ran till I put a new plugs in . I’ve tried cleaning a bunch fouled out plugs for diff engines an never had luck just go buy new an never clean a spark plug unless it still still ran good an needs the carbon or oil cleaned off it but when a plug fouled out just buy new
Love your style/content… you can actually watch this with the wife lol
Gota love Marj Simpsons laugh @6.30
That IT200 was an awesome bike in it's day. It's painful to see it like that!
I think the flywheel was put on 180 from where it should be, but the Woodruff key was still in the crankshaft, so basically everything just got mangled into its current position.
I love the "excelling" joke by camera girl. She's got a great sense of humor and legs. 😂
Love the Excel pun! 😂
Love the tutorials!
You’re wearing me out with that kicking !
Nice work!
That 250r is a gold mine my friend.. Especially here in New England
That’s a good quality puller. I was expecting the thread to be stripped out by now.
True, very nice legs.
Cool video as usual.
Even if you ruined an already ruined crank. It was great watching.
Love the uploads ❤
Thanks for all the entertainment!

This is still super informational
a lesson learned is a lesson earned.
I was about to take a sip of my beer, she said you’re EXCELLing with that emphases and I had to sigh before taking a sip lmao 😅
Re-install the puller, once you have moderate pressure tap on the puller with a hammer. apply pressure in small increments. If it frees up. Clean up the end and re-tap the threads
As always, thank you guys.
Keep on trucking!
When pulling the flywheel off normally keep the nut on put a little bit pressure on it and give it a tap on end of puller 😊 I think it might still work tidy the thread up with thread file
Great video! I want a Jennie’s garage hat too, when can I get it?
Yepp I've had that happen with a vintage bike I couldn't find a new or used crank for. Had to use map gas heating the rotor, sprayed keyboard duster on the crank to cool it finally getting it off..part of the threads were cut off of the stator side of the crank, re-tapped more threads, got a different style nut then had a new rod installed, web pins, runout checked etc.
I give the end of the flywheel puller tool a good crack of the hammer to shock the flywheel lose when I'm tightening it that much. Works well most of the time.
Camera girl has nice legs! The hairy ones not so much, lol Great video you two knuckle heads, I mean that as a compliment. Love your videos! Rock on.
It's not a lost cause guys. Step 1, cut half inch of threads off it. Hand file flat. Step 2 inspect the puller where it makes contact to the crank snout. And do the same, file it flat, it's probably pointy or beveled etc. Flat meeting flat, plus u will still have enough threads. Now to avoid doing that again, all u do is load the puller with torque, say 1/2 a turn tighter if it will...after puller meets snout. So now u have load applied, hit the end of the puller with a hammer, not like it owes ya money lol just a few good raps and it should pop. If it doesn't then u load more 1/8th turn more load 2 or 3 taps. Start light with hammer and gradually go harder. U will be surprised how hard u can hit that without damaging anything. I do it all the time. Apply pb b4 your next attempt let it soak, if for some reason u can't get it...pb, then torch the flywheel where it contacts the crank snout, u shouldn't need more then 20 seconds of heat. Stop at 20 seconds, torch it in circles around that area all the way in where the nut seats on flywheel. Stator will be just fine, magnets will be just fine, they see more heat then that when it's fully up to temp. Once hot quickly set your new filed tool on the filed snout and do exactly how I explained. U WILL get it, I know u will!!!
exactly how i do that, never tighten the puller so much until the wheel come of, just a bit and a aimed good hammersmack, than as you told tighten again and try again, mostly second or third time the wheel come of, if not heat can be used but may destroy the crankseal.
Also a peace of brass between crank and pully prefent the crank from getting damaged.
@@Thor555555 exactly. I only do 20 seconds tops of heat. The heat doesn't stay concentrated right there. It dissipates throughout the whole flywheel. And same with the crankshaft. The shaft is so thick, it would take at least 2 to 3 mins of torch time for it to heat the shaft beyond normal operating Temps. Either way I hope he tries again b.c. it will run. I can't believe it was even back firing being 180 out. It was igniting near bdc which is nuts lol, it will deff run!!! Idk how good with carb leaking. If carb leaks fuel from bowl, it also sucks air so it's gonna be rich lean rich lean the whole time it passes through its strokes.
