  • Magnolia Special. New Orleans designer J.T. Nesbitt took Jay's question (Why isn't natural gas sexier?) as a challenge, and answered it by creating this gorgeous CNG. Inspired by '30s grand prix racers, the Magnolia Special made it from New York to Los Angeles in 89 hours!

Excellent work by J.T. Nesbitt! ... Notes to Jay: 1) Drop your way overused "Nicely done". 2) Stop putting your hands and fingerprints on virtually all the extremely fabulous cars with perfect paint on your shows. (the owners are super happy to have their cars on your show, but the trade-off as to your fingerprints on the body of the car is obviously off-putting to them!)

That is one well thought out vehicle that has "Class" written all over it. I would like to see Jay add it to his collection if possible, so he could share this new innovation in his museum. The reason why CNG (Compressed natural gas) DOES NOT WORK at normal speed is ........is the fact it is under thousands of pounds of pressure in these tanks on the car. When hit by a semi, the explosion will take out a building. So, air bags and seat belts and bumpers are moot. When it’s hit hard, like totaled which happens thousands of times a day....it explodes. A city bus or garbage truck is where this technology will sleep. Oil fields. Fork trucks. Etc. LNG (Liquid natural gas) has to be frozen to to much below zero for it to be effective. So it won’t work. The future is DME. Dymetaleyther DME. It is literally made out of trash. Volvo AB has had in trucks for years along with own Mack Trucks and Prevost Bus and Volvo off road. So it’s all been done already waiting on retardation in the world government and ours. Fake emissions standards is why. Cuz DIESEL FUEL BURNS COMPLETELY CLEAN ALREADY. Propaganda based learning keeps you now these days 50 years behind if you use the typical main stream media

@@hatzlmike1 Tell that to the French. Paris is having smog problems because of the heavy use of diesel cars in France.
Also, the tanks for CNG/LNG are much thicker and stronger than those for gasoline (which also can explode). The reality is natural gas vehicles are no more dangerous than gasoline ones. Both can explode if the tank is ruptured or there is a leak.

Wire spoked wheels again I just love them. As a bicycle mechanic and have complete knowledge of them. I know that their strength lies in the knowledge and skill of the Wheelwright. Once mastered the difference is like night and day. I know this because the bicycle wheel is right at the edge of the limits of the materials used yet the wheels I've touched and trued until they are completely done will hold up for thousands of hard driven miles every time without needing anything. The wire wheel is really an amazing invention and instrument because the strong wheel is also the wheel that sings a song. That song can be felt with every revolution of the wheel connecting your hands to the road and Ride Like the Wind.

Surprising that he does not go into the story about how he lost it all, I believe, in Katrina or some other financial misfortune. Worked and/or built and designed motorcycles. Was at the point of waiting tables to keep food on the table Was at a bar working on his sketch book of motorcycles. A bar patron asked to look at his sketch book, figuratively and literally was weeping at his designs. This guy had just cashed out LARGE in high tech and offered to fund him. I believe he was designing motorcycles emulating the design and form of crossbows.

I'm finally getting the chance to catch up with all the back log of the Garage.
This is an absolutely brilliant car, beautiful, functional and well built along with a new concept by using natural gas.
Over here in Australia we have used LPG (Liquid Petroleum Gas) since the 1970's and a lot of our busses run on LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) so this is really just adding to those systems by taking away the need to truck in the already tanked and pressurised gas.
The biggest problem is that if everyone was using it, the infrastructure would need to be up graded to allow for enough flow to cater for more use but in saying that, it's very possible and probably far more affordable than installing some of the other systems.
What I'm waiting for is for someone to blend the NG and plug in Electric Hybrid system's which would then make it the ultimate in environmentally friendly car travel and extremely cheap to run.

Anyone who decides that an engine is a "big block" or a "small block" based only on displacement doesn't know much about engines. You can have a wide range of displacements with the same block. For example, with a small block Chrysler (LA), the factory displacements ranged from 273 cid (4.5L) to 360 cid (5.9L), and with an aftermarket "stroker kit" you can get 440 cid (7.2L) from it.
Ford made a big block 332 cid (5.4L) and GM made a small block 400 cid (6.6L).

In the not too distant future, we'll be watching this car on J T Nesbitt's Garage, and every single automobile, motorcycle, gadget, you-name-it will have been designed and maybe built by this incredible young man.

I spent some time in Europe and they sell automotive LPG (liquid propane gas) at many service stations, which is very similar to natural gas. The Euro hot rodders love to take big American V8 muscle cars and convert them to LPG because petrol is so expensive over there and it also passes their emissions requirements.

I knew a guy who converted his car to run on NG. He used his house supply and pump to compress the gas into the car tank. It was super clean, the oil never got dirty, and super cheap to run.

Excellent work! I do think that a classically styled car like this would benefit from more period looking headlights, imho that would give the car more presence.

His Wraith motorbike, before it was re-designed by hacks, is still my favourite of his works. This guy is just a solid builder and designer. No sugar coatings needed.

That is really a cool car. What I really like is the lack of plastic and cheap stuff they put on cars today. Also, I have two classic trucks without power stearing and they handle great. In many cases, the extra stuff is not necessary as this car shows. (Of course this depends upon the vehicle). Natural gas is a great idea. Why haven't we gone in this direction already? Great video........
