Love when Cameron visits with his family’s collection. Watching him become more knowledgeable and comfortable on camera with Jay over the years has been a blast. Him and David Lee are always excellent guests.
Agree. But I would love to see Alan Travis come back and show more of his cars. He's the "Bugatti guy" with a collection of old cars. A real car entusiast like Jay. I know he has an old Renault race car that Jay would really like.
100 years old and still purring like a kitten. The engineering on this car is stellar, Jay is right, the Hispano Suiza was ahead of Rolls Royce at this time, and the fact that it is still on the road is a testament to the quality of the build, and the restoration. Thank You Nethercutt, you guys are great.
It wasn’t ahead. The silver ghost handled better, more reliable, higher top speed vs the h6b. Rolls Royce won numerous endurance races due to its unmatched reliability.
I'm impressed with how far Cameron has come in his knowledge of the cars. I give him credit for coming back after some of the commenters busted his chops the first few times he was on.
Takes a while to become properly wise on cars. i have always had interest in cars and its only from 25-32 of age that i have built a major understanding of car history. And he has also been abit forced into it possibly considering he is an heir to the Nethercutt collection.
As I watched this I had the thought that the time is coming when Jay might stop driving cars that aren’t his. Jay Leno’s Garage is one of my favorite channels.
I love how Jay isn’t afraid to touch everything and see how it all works. Anybody else would be afraid to touch it (let alone drive it), but Jay is the one guy that has the resources to make it right if he were to damage a car like that. It always saddens me to see cars in museums that never move and just collect dust. They need to be driven a little bit to circulate the fluids and keep things properly lubricated.
I made much the same point about Jay in my separate comment. The guy who's family owns the car doesn't flinch at all when Jay is fiddleling with stuff. Just smiles wider!
If I ever have 1/10th the collection that Jay Leno has I would have died and gone to Heaven! LOL The Nethercutt Collection is absolutely fabulous as well, For now my Franklin and Danbury mint 1:24th collection along with a few CMC models (over 300 of these) fills that void. As for 1:1s I only own 1966 Toronado, 1967 Thunderbird Landau Coupe and a 70 Continental Mark lll with factory sunroof. Like children, I love each one for a different reason.
Some spaniards we miss badly the original Hispano-Suiza although having seen only trucks from their latest reincarnation as Pegaso. It is so sad how an incredible car maker and airplane motor company that was a world reference in the early 20th century vanished due to very difficult political and economic period. This brand deserves more recognition and unfortunately seems that no one cared to preserve their real legacy in their home country. None of the spanish factories were kept: the main one, the Sagrera factory located in Barcelona was demolished and gave birth to a park named "Pegaso Park", whereas the factory in Guadalajara is in abandoned state. At least in France they invested in transforming the HS Bois-Colombes wind tunnel building into a protected monument and nowadays is a school.
Just went to the The Nethercutt collection on a guided tour. What an outstanding place! My next trip to California I will be checking out the Nethercutt museum
I still love the old classic vehicles. For 101 years, straight-six engines runs perfectly for a Hispano Suiza to look this good. Even though I’m still a fan of these classic old American vehicles, but it is in much better shape. Great work Jay 👍🏼
The Hispano-Suiza stork mascot was in honor of Guynemer's squadron who were nicknamed Les Cigognes ('The Storks'). They flew Spads powered by Hispano-Suiza motors.
I always Love watching these Nethercut episodes and Cameron is so talented ,,, Make this a Special Series Jay with the Nethercut , Or collaborate with Donald and Mansions and Motorcars ! An Amazing series of talent and Architects all in one !!
There's something about that old world high end craftsmanship that has a feel that can't be beat. I can only imagine what a joy this beauty must be to drive when the quality is such that it virtually jumps out of the screen. Fantastic car!
True mechanical art create mechanical music! And every little piece was made from a mold, cast, filed and polished. Made by true craftsman and cherished by all who appreciate and love art that can move 75 MPH. Retired ASE Master.
Nearly twenty years ago I saw the 1925 H6B that Don Nichols was restoring, still in need of floorboards and some other work. The engine was on a stand, like a work of art on display A good long time after that I saw the car again, fully finished. I took a picture of him standing next to it in the garage. Then in 2014 it won Best in Class and Best in Show at the first concours in Arizona. I was happy for him, but not surprised. It was a most impressive car. What got me most excited was that he later sold it to a collector from France for over $1 million.
Nethercutt Collection is an under appreciated place to visit in San Fernando. Just up the road from Mission San Fernando and free entry! Incredible collection of running vehicles.
Oh, I love seeing the Nethercutt cars being driven. I was telling someone about the Nethercutt earlier today, he seemed excited to go see the collection. Thanks to everyone for sharing this.
A beautiful automobile. Cameron gets to bring the best of the best so Jay can drive the best of the best. What a job... I saw that car in Monterey in 1993. Thank you, Cameron and Jay, for sharing this wonderful slice of history...
Thank God for people like Jay giving these criminally under appreciated Hispano Suizas some exposure in today’s automotive culture. Hispanos truly were above and beyond their competition (RR, Bentley, Packard, etc) in many ways, and their aerospace connection (and success within that industry) is truly just as fascinating as their automotive branch. The H6 and J12 will forever be amongst my favourite pre war era automobiles. Thanks Jay.
I love it when Cameron comes by! "He steals parts." 😂 Such a beautiful car. It's really too bad that Hispano Suiza couldn't continue; I guess someone could bring the name back, like Bugatti? Thanks, Cameron, for letting us all see this magnificent automobile (you can't just call it a "car"), and thanks to Jay and the Crew for another great episode to start my week! ✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
Absolutley Fantastic. Thank you, Jay, for your incredible contribution to the History of Motoring. Incredible. All the very best from Johannesburg, South Africa
A figure in the New York area who owned a Hispano Suiza was radio pioneer Edwin Howard Armstrong according to Ken Burns' documentary, "Empire of the Air." He invented the electronics that made voice radio possible and invented FM radio. I think he had a home in Long Island. He bought the car to take trips with his wife, and she drove it after his death according to the documentary.
Armstrong's life was notoriously ruined by RCA's vengeful David Sarnoff over his refusal to give RCA a royalty-free license for his FM tech. A great inventor subjected to a life of lawfare because of a spiteful business man.
Thank you. Superb car, lovely guest and Jay drives these so well that he MUST care for the mechanicals! Made my day seeing this! Best wishes from George in UK
Jay, when you were playing with that rear window and you were fidgeting with it I thought for sure you would break it and then of course you would have had to buy it! Nice try! Ha ha. Great auto. Another fascinating piece of history. Keep those videos coming. BTW, prayers for your wife and for you. My wife and I are very familiar with the situation you find yourself in since both of her parents experienced the same issues. God bless.
I think you were both underdressed while driving that automobile. Absolutely georgious! I've got to get out there and see you. Thanks to Caleron for delivering another piece of royality fo us to see.❤❤❤
Jay the pilot that you were trying to remember, his name was Georges Guynemer (12/24/1894-9/11/1917) and he flew a Spad VII which had the Hispano-Suiza V8 that was later built in connection with Wright-Martin and used in the Curtiss JN-4H here in the US. Georges flew up against some of the biggest names in WWI flying and accumulated 54 aerial victories before his death in 1917. He's a favorite of mine as well.
What an incredible and gorgeous machine. 100 years old now and still going strong. It's wild to think that thing weighs less than my focus ST... LOL and almost certainly will outlive it.
Seen a few in car museums in Europe. Always owned by dictators and heads of state. Each detail is crafted to perfection. Look at the needles on those gem dials!
I would never have the nerve to drive it on a public road. The Hispano Suiza and Isotta Fraschini are two of my favorites from the era. The names alone drip quality, class and style. Norma Desmond would approve.
Cameron needs to get working on videos of his cars in a similar fashion to Jay. After all Jay won't be around forever. And I see him as a great torch bearer for sharing car history.

Well-done as always. Beautiful work of mechanical art. Beautiful car. There was a local meet of vintage cars near where I lived growing up, mostly 20's and 30's cars that my dad would take his 1924 Cluley to (Rare car, only 9 left) and there was a guy who would come regularly in his absolutely collossal Hispano Suiza, it always blew me away. Im not sure what year but it was a later model, I think late 20's or early 30's perhaps. He used to leave a cork on the beak of the mascot to stop people accidentally stabbing themselves on it!

Another great video about a fabulous car. I think the term "radiator mascot" turned into "hood ornament" when the radiator cap first went under the hood in the 1930's.

Yeh, these are some of my favourite Jay Leno episodes. Such beautiful cars, and deep knowledge. A joy to watch.
Another beautiful classic automobile, I didn't remember that car... thanks Jay and Cameron

Jay makes everyone comfortable. I expect hanging out with Jay outweighs any internet slams.

Was thinking the same thing, he one of the few people who could afford to fix it and fix it himself if something goes wrong.

i live a few miles away from the place were he went down with his plane in the first world war.
The Spad was the best aerodinamic plane in WW1 it was 60 miles faster than and German plane at that time..
Every Nethercutt car is an inmaculous gem

Plus the mirrors attached to the spare tyres is just funny.

Cameron, good to hear your knowledge of your auto's is greatly increasing. Thanks for bringing to all to the table.
