Love when Cameron visits with his family’s collection. Watching him become more knowledgeable and comfortable on camera with Jay over the years has been a blast. Him and David Lee are always excellent guests.

Agree. But I would love to see Alan Travis come back and show more of his cars. He's the "Bugatti guy" with a collection of old cars. A real car entusiast like Jay. I know he has an old Renault race car that Jay would really like.

100 years old and still purring like a kitten. The engineering on this car is stellar, Jay is right, the Hispano Suiza was ahead of Rolls Royce at this time, and the fact that it is still on the road is a testament to the quality of the build, and the restoration. Thank You Nethercutt, you guys are great.

It wasn’t ahead. The silver ghost handled better, more reliable, higher top speed vs the h6b. Rolls Royce won numerous endurance races due to its unmatched reliability.

Takes a while to become properly wise on cars. i have always had interest in cars and its only from 25-32 of age that i have built a major understanding of car history. And he has also been abit forced into it possibly considering he is an heir to the Nethercutt collection.

I love how Jay isn’t afraid to touch everything and see how it all works. Anybody else would be afraid to touch it (let alone drive it), but Jay is the one guy that has the resources to make it right if he were to damage a car like that. It always saddens me to see cars in museums that never move and just collect dust. They need to be driven a little bit to circulate the fluids and keep things properly lubricated.

If I ever have 1/10th the collection that Jay Leno has I would have died and gone to Heaven! LOL The Nethercutt Collection is absolutely fabulous as well, For now my Franklin and Danbury mint 1:24th collection along with a few CMC models (over 300 of these) fills that void. As for 1:1s I only own 1966 Toronado, 1967 Thunderbird Landau Coupe and a 70 Continental Mark lll with factory sunroof. Like children, I love each one for a different reason.

Some spaniards we miss badly the original Hispano-Suiza although having seen only trucks from their latest reincarnation as Pegaso. It is so sad how an incredible car maker and airplane motor company that was a world reference in the early 20th century vanished due to very difficult political and economic period.
This brand deserves more recognition and unfortunately seems that no one cared to preserve their real legacy in their home country. None of the spanish factories were kept: the main one, the Sagrera factory located in Barcelona was demolished and gave birth to a park named "Pegaso Park", whereas the factory in Guadalajara is in abandoned state.
At least in France they invested in transforming the HS Bois-Colombes wind tunnel building into a protected monument and nowadays is a school.

I still love the old classic vehicles. For 101 years, straight-six engines runs perfectly for a Hispano Suiza to look this good. Even though I’m still a fan of these classic old American vehicles, but it is in much better shape. Great work Jay 👍🏼

Nearly twenty years ago I saw the 1925 H6B that Don Nichols was restoring,
still in need of floorboards and some other work.
The engine was on a stand, like a work of art on display
A good long time after that I saw the car again, fully finished.
I took a picture of him standing next to it in the garage.
Then in 2014 it won Best in Class and Best in Show at the first concours in Arizona.
I was happy for him, but not surprised. It was a most impressive car.
What got me most excited was that he later sold it to a collector from France for over $1 million.

Thank God for people like Jay giving these criminally under appreciated Hispano Suizas some exposure in today’s automotive culture. Hispanos truly were above and beyond their competition (RR, Bentley, Packard, etc) in many ways, and their aerospace connection (and success within that industry) is truly just as fascinating as their automotive branch. The H6 and J12 will forever be amongst my favourite pre war era automobiles. Thanks Jay.

A figure in the New York area who owned a Hispano Suiza was radio pioneer Edwin Howard Armstrong according to Ken Burns' documentary, "Empire of the Air." He invented the electronics that made voice radio possible and invented FM radio. I think he had a home in Long Island. He bought the car to take trips with his wife, and she drove it after his death according to the documentary.

    • @MrCarGuy
      @MrCarGuy 3 місяці тому

Armstrong's life was notoriously ruined by RCA's vengeful David Sarnoff over his refusal to give RCA a royalty-free license for his FM tech. A great inventor subjected to a life of lawfare because of a spiteful business man.

Georges flew up against some of the biggest names in WWI flying and accumulated 54 aerial victories before his death in 1917. He's a favorite of mine as well.

Jay may have been referring to Edwin Howard Armstrong - not Nikola Tesla - as a 1920s metro NYC based Hispano-Suiza owner. Armstrong invented the superheterodyne radio principle and later perfected the FM broadcast system. His radio circuit inventions earned him a large portion of RCA stock in the 1920s. He and his bride drove to Florida in their Hispano-Suiza (photo looks like a cabriollet) for their honeymoon.
He loved to drive fast vehicles and climb high radio towers.

Well-done as always. Beautiful work of mechanical art. Mascot vs hood ornament: typically, a mascot is exactly that--the Jaguar leaper, the Spirti of Estacy, the Pierce-Arrow, etc included an animated object whereas a hood ornatment is typically a shield or badge--like the Cadlllac crest, Mercedes-Benz tristar, etc (meaning a non animated emblem).

There was a local meet of vintage cars near where I lived growing up, mostly 20's and 30's cars that my dad would take his 1924 Cluley to (Rare car, only 9 left) and there was a guy who would come regularly in his absolutely collossal Hispano Suiza, it always blew me away. Im not sure what year but it was a later model, I think late 20's or early 30's perhaps. He used to leave a cork on the beak of the mascot to stop people accidentally stabbing themselves on it!

There is nothing like the old cars, they were all produced for the future, the cars produced today have become products that are consumed very quickly like french fries, by the way, I don't know if there is a need to say, all of the content is very nice and I must say that the shots in the garage are taken from very nice angles, we would like to see such beautiful collection cars, we would like to see you in front of the cameras as long as your health allows, I wish you healthy days.

Really enjoy these episodes, it's fantastic to see Cameron with all his knowledge on the cars and now he is starting to loosen up in front of camera. Might need to do a few more pushups to keep the hood open though ;) :D Cheers for the vid

Another great video about a fabulous car. I think the term "radiator mascot" turned into "hood ornament" when the radiator cap first went under the hood in the 1930's.

One can only imagine that much that collection of vehicles in that museum must be worth. Every one is in better than mint condition.
