  • A review and demo of the Fender Player Telecaster. I've been asked what I thought of these so I picked one up to demo. I discuss the quality of construction, fretwork, nut work, overall setup, and play it through my Fender Tone Master Deluxe Reverb, both clean and with gain from the Sweet Honey overdrive and the J. Rockett The Dude.

    That’s a great sounding guitar! It’s nice to hear demo’s that really stick to the original sounds of the guitar. Your experience with year’s of playing, and great ear for Tone make your demo’s perfect. Your pedal selection and set up really bring out the true guitar sound without a bunch of Hi Gain Tomfoolery!
    Keep up the fine work!
    Looking forward to the next video 💥👍🤙

    Just picked up this exact model in a trade. I have no complaints at all. The nut on mine is properly cut and the whole guitar plays great. Huge value for money these Player Series Fenders are. (Went full-Yoda there! 😆)
    Great playing by the way.

      Thank you. They are very good guitars though a few little QC issues do occasionally sneak through, probably the result of the the huge number manufactured. Thanks for watching.

    thanks for your honest review Leonard, I wouldnt keep the guitar due the sloppy nut cuttings, my personal choice would be a Tele with a hum in the neck.

      Thank you. Yes, most people buying it new, with the flawed job in the nut should probably just exchange it for another if they want that guitar. It’s very nice otherwise.

      I would expect the Vintera line to be nicer but the Player is an improvement, IMO, over the Standard Series it replaced. Thanks for watching.

    Nice review😊
    I've got the same guitar - also had a wonky nut which had to be replaced.
    With that problem sorted its a really good guitar.

    Well done video. I'd like to point out that for the same price, you could get a PRS SE Silver Sky. Now I know a few guys that won't touch anything BUT a Tele, but to me, $849.00 is a lot for a guitar that'll need a new nut.🤔 BTW, you had a nice early Bloomfield thing going there!

      Thanks. Yeah, if you saw my SE Silver Sky video you’ll know I found it perfect right out of the box. Min isn’t going anywhere.

    What do you think of the American Professional Telecaster? I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on one 🤔

    I had a few of these where the nut was cut by Stevie Wonder.

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845

      Yeah it’s a shame. I know demand outstripped supply during the height of the pandemic and this sort of thing is usually the product of cranking out too many guitars too fast.

    • @aperezdeal

      If it means anything recently (in one case as little as three days ago) I picked up a Tele and Strat in this line that only needed my customary set up. Cheers.

    Surprised it would need fret leveling with string action that high. I’d of returned it.

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  7 місяців тому

      Well, a bit of perspective. As an on and off full time professional for well over 50 years, I’m more sensitive than most to fretwork. The fretwork on this one was actually on par with the majority of high production factory guitars. As you heard, there was no fretting out, buzzing, etc., and those are the metrics by which 90% of hobby players judge fretwork. I used to immediately send most new guitars to my guy to have him do his usual immaculate fretwork. Gibsons, Fenders, etc. To be fair, factory fretwork has improved in the last few years, getting closer to how well it was typically done in the 50s and 60s, before today’s high production numbers.
      Also, 1.5mm treble and 1.75 bass is my normal action, and most don’t consider that high. A lot of the guys on the blues circuit used way higher action than I do.
      And finally, I buy these to review and that guitar has long since moved on, and the new owner is very happy with it. I don’t even think he minded the wonky nut, and he watched the video.

    Can you play that one country song where the lyrics go something like this: “ now I don’t know much about buying some land, I’m going to give up the booze 🥃 and the one night stands……..”

  • @Edward1312
    @Edward1312 Рік тому +1

    Once you get to a good level of fit and finish on a guitar its all down to the players ability anyway. This proves there is no need to spend 1000's on a guitar that has all the bells and whistle cos it wont make much difference if you cant actually play it very well.

    • @leonardgriffieblues5845
      @leonardgriffieblues5845  Рік тому

      Well yes, the player is always the most important part of the equation. Gear is really just about finding what pleases you. You can’t spend your way to sounding great. That’s a given. Thanks so much for watching.

      You’d think. Although it’s worth noting the modern FMIC has little to do with the original company other than the rights to build the designs and use the logo.

    I had player but HH model.Frets finished after 16 months.Redone finished in 8 months.I play metal.The same problem what this gentelman has in this white guitar.Common in players series.

      Thankfully I’m not quite so hard on frets. Still. I found the player series just okay. Not the T style I’d spend that money on. Thanks for watching.
