I picked up a 2019 Players Series Butterscotch Blonde Tele a few weeks ago for $600, plays itself, necks like butter and the pickups are insane. Cheers!
I brought an immaculate ex demo from a local music store for $500 and felt extremely lucky. The sound from the orange tele is tele/strat and versatile 🤘
I just bought my first Fender anything after playing for 40 years. It is a 2018 MIM Tele in burst I picked up used for $450. So far I really like the tones it produces through various amps. It seems very versatile and it's easy to play.
You don't need to replace the input jack! All it is, is the contact for the cord's tip . . . it needs bend back a bit. Pull the jack out of the guitar, bend the contact arm back a bit, and stop adjusting when the cord goes in and out comfortably. That contact also acts as a spring arm to use torsion to hold your cord in by its tip.

I have three of them and use them all the time.A great Guitar for any Kind of musical Style from Jazz to Metal. A top quality instrument from Fender.🎶👍🏻🎸
The neck feel, tone, and playability of these Player Teles are excellent. I like mine better than some of the guitars that cost me much, much more money.
My 2014 MIM Tele is beautiful. Amazing tone. Great comfortable neck with some really pretty grains. BUT the frets came so sharp its actually almost unplayable. My Squire Paranormal Carbonita had less sharp frets. And my Epi les Paul special. And Squier affinity Tele...I don't t expect it to be perfect at the price point and being an entry level Fender. But godamn, the frets legitimately make it feel like a $100 starter kit guitar. And not a brand name one. It was disappointing and really would recommend the high end squier model if your still newer. If you can work on your own gear or have a guy tho, get the Fender.
@@alexijeknavorian4914 that's exactly what it is, it seems to be a little more common on the Player Series for whatever reason. well Fender has different factories, one in California and the other in Mexico. they all go through some kind of machine, atleast the mainline series, but i think the complaint is about the frets. I've heard some people say there not as smooth as they should be, although i have heard Fender did update the Player Series in 2021. a friend of mine has a Player Series and his feels fine, it doesn't have rolled edges but they don't feel rough. that being said, maple fretboards do tend to be rougher on people if you don't buff em and smooth them out. you won't find that problem on the American versions, another thing i noticed is how the skinny the neck is. i have small hands and i could barely get my palm on it. that's not a good position to have your wrist bending a certain way to get your fingers on the frets. i don't get what Fender was trying to do here, this isn't a beginners guitar, well it can be, but only an adult would be able to buy one. no parent is gonna spend 800 on a guitar for a kid. i find the people over at Squier sometimes do a better job making the frets feel nice and playable. the necks on them are fine, but that shouldn't surprise people, those people over in China and Indonesia make peanuts alot of times, but yet they work hard.
For an extra $250 you can buy the Player Plus: Gig Bag, Belly Cut, Locking tuners, Noiseless Pups, Rolled fretboard, Individual Saddles. These MiMs are so well made and incredible Value.
I'm sure those player series are nice guitars but he kept teasing us with that old school traditional butterscotch black guard 51 Tele. That thing looks awesome.
The comment on taking your guitars apart made me think about my first electric guitar Everything that could be taken apart, has been, and I have modded it as well Other guitars I have done less gradually over the years I still enjoy seeing videos of a teardown
I used hate the thought of a Tele. I bought a Harley Benton te52 did some mods and now I ordered the fender player yesterday. The Tele is my favorite type of guitar. They are simple, comfortable and versatile AF. Can’t wait for my new butterscotch baby to get here.
I like the Fender Player series for modding purposes - I play left-handed guitars and it is sometimes difficult to buy off the shelf anything differing from standard specs. On my (lefty) Player Tele I have fitted the following: Fender ‘51 Nocaster Telecaster pickups (they have flush/flat pole pieces so no problem on a lefty), new wiring harness with LH reverse audio taper and treble bleed, a Freeway 3B3-01 six way blade switch giving the following options: 1 Bridge, 2 Bridge and Neck, 3 Neck, 4 Bridge and Neck In-Parallel Out of Phase, 5 Bridge and Neck In Series Out of Phase, 6 Bridge and Neck In Series In Phase. Bridge is a GOTOH in-tune Chrome BS-TC2 Brass saddle lefty bridge, which also gives option for Top Load stringing, Nut is a Graphtec Tusq XL slotted lefty, string tree is Graphtec and strings are D’Addario NYXL 09-42. I always swap out Telecaster input jacks for ones that have a couple of screws going into the body holding the input jack in place. On the subject of Freeway switches for Fenders, the 10 position 5B5-01 Strat switches have options for bridge and neck pickups only - both In Parallel and also In Series.
As fellow lefty: thanks for this thorough description! Was bumming out that there is no lefty version of a Vintera, so modding a player will be the way to go.
Another lefty here. I am happy with my 2021 lefty tele and not planning to change anything on it in the near future. The only thing I did, like with any Fender guitar, rewired the pots to righty turning, so they are usable. No need to change the pickups, sofar loving them, the only possible change would be the tuners as they are a bit stiffer than I am used to.
A tip: I have a left-handed version of the Player Tele, and found it useful to reverse the wiring on the tone pot. Before that, the logarithmic tone pot worked almost like an on-off tone switch in the left handed guitar (presumably they use same pots in the LH and RH versions and wire them in the mirror image at the factory)
Nice review. I love the thin neck. To me they are just more comfortable. The input jacks on most of the new Fenders are tight. I think it might help from keeping the jack wire from falling out. Just a thought.
I have a 2021 Player Tele in butterscotch blonde. The output Jack was loose when it came out of the box, but otherwise was set up perfectly. I never imagined myself owning a Tele much less a butterscotch blonde one, but it’s quickly become my number 2

Was listed on Reverb for $999 new but negotiated a price of $899. Pickups sound great and the neck is as smooth as glass and plays like a dream.
I have a 2020 Player. Neck is an average modern C shape Fender neck you can find on most of their guitars.Took me a while to get used to a glossy maple fretboard. The pickups are well balanced but to my ears have no character so they had to go. I think it's a good guitar for modding.

I’ve had no luck with any modern fenders up to and including the American professional II. Roller coaster frets, nuts cut by Ray Charles, ungrounded parts the works. I understand that it’s luck of the draw but I get why people look for older gear. Edit: I purchased a Capri orange Strat and it was perfect. So that’s a plus.
Nearly bought a new player series but was put off by reviewers saying the modern 6 saddle bridge didnt quite give you the proper Tele sound so I ended up buying a Vintera 60s modified in Lake Placid blue.I would reccomend snyone to go the extra mile for the Vintera but sure they're both great
I love that color, but i,m not crazy about that light maple neck.I always seems as though it has no stain on it.I like the roasted maple necks or the rosewood colored necks.Overall it sounds and looks fantastic.
After playing a real Tele once years ago I've always wanted one. I went to the Sam Ash by my house today to play and likely purchase a Player Series Tele. After playing a few of them, I was utterly disappointed. None of them sound or play like a Tele at all. I was testing through a small Vox Amp with no effects and little gain. I could barely tell by sound which position the the selector switch was in. The pickups were extremely underwhelming. The fret edges were rough and the necks on all of them didn't feel quite right. Just for sanity check, to see if maybe the amp was the problem, I grabbed a used 2002 Custom Shop Tele and plugged it in....not even close! The custom shop was an entirely different guitar and way better! I then tried a used 2010 Michael Kelly clone...way better than the Player series. I almost bought the MK. Going to keep saving my $$$ and get a guitar that actually sounds and plays like a Tele. Meanwhile I'll suffer with my 91 Strat and 62 Jazzmaster.
I know, 2 year old video, but... Why all the extra holes in the neck pocket? Ive really liked the sound of every Player and Player II I've heard. I just wish i could get the burst finish with a rosewood board.
Hi John & Zack, Is there still a Washburn guitar factory in Illinois? That might be cool. You guys are great. Stay safe and warm. Signed John Gregory/ Zepbass from Munster Indiana. Bass Player.
Yea I love that combo! Regular tele pickups through a marshall has something so special. I do like the sound from this upgrade though too. For me pretty much any tele pups through the Marshall will do
I have many u.s. made gibsons and fenders. I also bought a player series strat just because I love the buttercream finish. I am really surprised at how good this strat is...no one can tell me that they don't build good fenders in Ensenada . Nothing out there can touch these at this price point
I just bought American professional 2. Very very gorgeous axe. I love USA fenders. I got the Miami blue w/maple board. It's a fantastic guitar. I shucked my old Mexican fender into Firewood for a bonfire. USA fenders ❤️🩹😇🎸🙏😉👍🐸😨👻
I really like the color. I know everyone is bitching about the price increase but for that price they could’ve given you a gig bag. More and more I’m looking away from fender and looking at other brands not because of the money, but because of the value.
I had a Player Series Telecaster a year or two ago, it was great. Got it new on sale for $574. I was very impressed with the quality. As my first Telecaster, it convinced me that I like other guitars better (ahem, super strats), and sold it for a small profit during lockdown. Not sure I'd pay $849 for one, but I no longer understand how money works.
I just ordered a new one, and the price hurts but damn it's hard to stray from fender. I let go of a MIM 72 deluxe reissue a few years ago and have been kicking my forehead since. I think it was like 650 new when I bought it. I pay 2 more dollars a gallon at the gas pump than I did a few years ago and don't burn anything down. I guess I won't for this either, I'll just have to eat Ramen for a few weeks.
@@swampdaddy6425 I recently bought a new American Professional II Telecaster for $1300 or so. It's a fantastic guitar, but I don't think it's twice as good as the Players series even though it's twice as much :) I doubt I could tell a difference in a blind test.
@@swampdaddy6425 You can thank Trump for that. Biden is doing all he can to bring down the inflation and fix the destruction he caused. In fact he’s working on bringing the whole economy down to then rebuild it better. Gas is also ruining the environment, it emits carbon which plants then eat and get sick and die. If you noticed, it’s been getting gradually hotter ever since February. Our time is short.
would you say there is any difference between a 2022 vs a 2019 model? I'm looking at a 2019 in a shop at the moment. Wondering why it hasn't sold yet (might be covid related) and if there's any spec upgrades since 2019. Cheers
Not sure if you show lower end guitars but how about do a video on Sawtooth guitar telecasters, I hear even though they have lower end parts they still play well? Craig
My MiM Strat blew me away when I got it (my first real 'Fender' guitar - don't @ me). I wouldn't mind another MiM Telecaster but only in white but I have a couple of Squier Standard Teles with Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders and other cheaper brand pickups but QPs are perfect for ANY Strat or Tele, in my humble opinion. There's nothing extra on the Telecaster, it's basic, it's modular, inexpensive and versatile - you get what you see and any good player can make one sing. Great guitars, design classics and nigh on indestructible. Some say that after the Apocalypse only Cockroaches, Keith Richards and Telecasters will survive and who's to say they're wrong?
I’m seriously considering selling this guitar. I have it a year now. Gave it plenty of time but it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. The real deal breakers for me is the neck and the pots. The neck just isn’t the one. It’s feels unrefined (a bit rough). You can get around on it but to me it’s never effortless. And the pots. I never opened the guitar and it’s been kept in great condition but the pots decide when the want to work and when not. When I turn the volume knob up full there’s a snap and the volume dips below half. And the tone knob crackles and hisses as you turn it. I’d have to get it serviced before I could sell it and that’s sad for a fender guitar that shouldn’t have come with these issues.
I've had bad luck with Mexican Fenders. I've already had two with broken truss rods. A 2021 Player Jaguar and an older mexican standard tele. I would stay away.
The dealbreaker is that Fender has put four raised bridge screws right under the saddles. Unless your using string gauages of 11-52, intonation will cause the saddles to rest on top of the screws and causing alignment issues! Fender, oh Fender, why???
Can't stand how narrow the necks are on all modern guitars. To be honest, the reason why older guitars are so cherished is the freaking necks where thicker and wider. I just build my own or replace the neck with a warmoth anymore.
Im curious about that bridge. I built a b-bender body and the brass "3" saddle is wearing a gnarly groove in the saddle. Ive been considering switching to a 6 saddle and throwing a roller in the b string
I bought a player series. It was the player plus model tele. It wouldn’t stay in tune for more than 5 seconds. High E string would pop out of the nut constantly. First time I used pickup selector the plastic covering fell off. The action was terrible. I know all of these things can be fixed but for $1400 Canadian I returned it. Probably got a bad one but turned me off. I could see it on a $500 guitar but I don’t accept that when I’m paying $1400.😂
I ordered a butter blonde one like 2 weeks ago and it still hasn’t came. Was supposed to be here like 4 days ago and it got stuck in my state in shipping due to weather after traveling all the way across the country.
@@PlayandTradeGuitars Would you take that over the Squier Classic Vibe 50? and why did they put a synthetic bone on the Player tele and a real one on the CV50?
I mean I just bought a ultra tele brand new came in last week and I’d say this player series is no worse than the ultra. Pickups and fretwork are prolly not as good but heck my ultra still has band saw marks and tooling gouges on the fretboard they never sanded. Also sharp Allens at the saddles just like a squire save the money and buy like 4 of these
I love the pickups but the thin neck is a no go 🙅♂️ for me. Also had issue with input jack. I like 0.10’s on these better. I did have to make a slight truss rod adjustment. Intonation was really good and string bending no dead spots!

@@GradualErase Average boomer reaction. I have a USA and MIM fender and they're both great.
Super informative video about the Player Tele.
Omg dat orange is just sweet!
I like that you sat it next to the Orange amp.
I really like the color. I know everyone is bitching about the price increase but for that price they could’ve given you a gig bag. More and more I’m looking away from fender and looking at other brands not because of the money, but because of the value.
Yeah, try Gibson LOL.
Could you fit a humbucker in thr bridge too? (with a new bridge ofc). The neck is clearly routed for one, but it's hard to tell on the bridge side.
Would you ship this give away to Canada?
I love fender guitars
@@sublyme2157 yeah maybe not twice as good but I bet it plays like a dream :') Every pro guitar I've played felt and sounded magical.
Going to order one soon!
The difference between 1.63” and 1.68” on the nut width is a little more than a mm. Would that really be noticeable?
I own two of these, fantastic guitars
would you say there is any difference between a 2022 vs a 2019 model? I'm looking at a 2019 in a shop at the moment. Wondering why it hasn't sold yet (might be covid related) and if there's any spec upgrades since 2019. Cheers
Not sure if you show lower end guitars but how about do a video on Sawtooth guitar telecasters, I hear even though they have lower end parts they still play well?

I got a pink one
I just picked one up. I hate the pickups. I just swapped them out for noiseless Gen 4 fender pickups. It’s a nice guitar especially for the money
Fantastic demo
Should have sent it back when you got it that way
Traditional saddles had major flaws when coming to intonation.
The scent of a new tele...
Can you do a video about the new reissue Cunife pickups?
I'm not sure if there is any telecaster deluxe reissue that came with it yet.
Orange tele??? Very cool
I've had bad luck with Mexican Fenders. I've already had two with broken truss rods. A 2021 Player Jaguar and an older mexican standard tele. I would stay away.
Great Guitar Player.. Great Tele Sound !
The dealbreaker is that Fender has put four raised bridge screws right under the saddles. Unless your using string gauages of 11-52, intonation will cause the saddles to rest on top of the screws and causing alignment issues! Fender, oh Fender, why???
Would you ever consider selling that toronado hh gt on the wall behind you? Those guitars are super cool
I would consider but would be tough haha, I love that guitar
Thanks great Information
Need ash body and brass saddles to get the best sound.
Excellent tone and a great price
What about the tuners??
Can't stand how narrow the necks are on all modern guitars. To be honest, the reason why older guitars are so cherished is the freaking necks where thicker and wider. I just build my own or replace the neck with a warmoth anymore.
Yep I agree. Love thick necks
It's an output jack. It outputs signal.
Now if only I can win. Would be the first thing I’ve ever won. I’ve been thinking of getting a Telecaster.
You can put a humbucker in this telecaster like EMG pickups? Because if this is true I'll buy this maybe the next year
Yes these are routed for humbuckers even though single coils were installed, thanks for watching!
In what world does white and blue make orange?
They’re primer and filler. Makes the final top coat quicker to apply, and the finish is smoother.
Awesome looking guitar
Im curious about that bridge. I built a b-bender body and the brass "3" saddle is wearing a gnarly groove in the saddle. Ive been considering switching to a 6 saddle and throwing a roller in the b string
Also how the heck havent you guys hit 50K yet? I was hoping to win that les paul and use it on the play thru channel im working on :)
working on it! Thanks for your support and good luck
9 months later, what do you think of it? did it ever show up?
Hi, could you make a video with the Vintera and Vintera Modified Telecasters? Thanks!!
Yea we're overdue on those, will add them to the short list. Thanks for watching!
@@PlayandTradeGuitars Would you take that over the Squier Classic Vibe 50?
and why did they put a synthetic bone on the Player tele and a real one on the CV50?
Love your playing!
Thank you I appreciate that! Thanks for watching
Love it's style it's simplicity Rocking
