Judy could blow on vinyl as good as Dee Dee Warwick. Her duo with William Bell on "Private Number" is a perfect record, right up there with Marvin and Tammi. Ms Cissy must have been hella proud of her on her career.
Great singing but I never heard of Miss Judy before but she's another great giant that never got great recognition but the greatest thing about being an artist is that you have lots of your own money to start in music
WOW! Wonderful to see this so-rare footage. Danced so often to this on the Northern Soul circuit! Blinding beat and superb vocal. Thanks Judy! Bierney45 XX
You cant call that clapping can ya!! It was like a clap of thunder when we used to get going. One thing you really dont see now clapping in unison. Great clip. i like seeing the dancers ALMOST as much as the act singing. Id love to just go do a spin and watch everyones jaw drop lol
Judy, was definetley surrounded by Voices supreme and could pull off great Tunes , There's more to her story . She had alot of bad breaks w/ record Co' s. etc. Was,She a Threat To Aretha ,Wonder.

@@ILMJXXXas for you description, the Drinkard Singers were not formed in Savannah; they had already moved to Newark, NJ by the 1920s where Cissy was born in 1933. The Sweet Inspirations were connected to the Drinkard Singers, but was primarily composed of The Gospelaires, Dionne’s group that Cissy took over when Dionne and Dee Dee’s careers took off. And yes, Judy was adopted, but not being biologically related doesn’t mean that she wasn’t their sister. Cissy’s book “How Sweet the Sound” explains it all. Thanks for the video.

I think you mean Lee Warrick, not Cissy.
Judy Clay partnered William Bell on Private Numbers
Without the UK Northern Soul Scene, magnificent songs like this would have remained unknown.
I think not

her collaborations with Billy Vera and then William Bell made plenty of noise on the radio in certain regional areas.

Okay, the audience are all clapping and dancing off beat.. lol!!!!
That's such a funny phrase: "Busted My Mind". 😆
It tickles me to even think it.
That has a strong go-go beat, as it should for 1966.
Absolutely
1966'..one of the greatest years for music..

we'd love to see you do a spin. Nothing so funny as a middle aged man making a fool of himself.
fantastic share !! did you notice she missed coming in at the right moment? :)
lol only by a second x
Tricky intro, I count 2 measures of 7/4 and vocal comes in on the down of the 11th beat of the 4/4? Tricky tricky tricky.
