    It s amazing that I went to school for Sports and Medicine because I was curious of how my body function . Un fortunately, I found things hard to grasp and therefore, lost interest. I however, came into these videos and everything seems so simple and exciting to understand. Thank you so much Dr. Campbell for your extraordinary explanation. I wish that you was my teacher while I was in school.

    Im just thinking out loud here: when there is more oxygen going in than out, and more carbon going out than in through the lungs, where do we make up that difference? Since, especially in adult life, we are in a quite stable state chemically. Is the extra oxygen converted to water and exits as sweat and urine? And the loss of carbon compensated through the intake of carbon rich foods? What other pathways are there? How would, theoretically, breatharians deal with this differnce in chemical exchange through the lungs, thinking as they don't take in carbon through food? And where does the extra hydrogen come from, in either breatharians or people with a food diet? Also, you come across as very patient in your teaching even though there are no "live" students, very impressice, great teaching!

    You inadvertently interchanged the %age of constituents of exhaled air, though we get what you mean. It may be too much work to edit the video and splice in a correction graphics flipping the %ages. Or write a correction note in the Desc.
    As usual, your content and teaching is excellent. Thank you.

    Thanks Dr John Campbell !
    I have a question
    Why respiratory system has muscles , while its contraction limits air flow to the lungs and in some conditions it can be life threatening ( Asthma ..)?

    • @Campbellteaching
      @Campbellteaching  7 років тому +3

      Extrinsic muscles are essential to alter the volumes of the thoracic cavity, this is how the pressures are altered to facilitate breathing in and out. While asthma is causes by bronchoconstriction of the bronchioles, it is mostly caused by inflammation. The bronchioles have smooth muscle in their walls. The reason there is smooth muscles in the walls of the bronchioles is so there can be constriction and dilation of the small airways. If they were fully dilated all of the time, infection would get into the alveoli more easily.

  • @margaretneanover6066
    @margaretneanover6066 4 роки тому

    Also what the blood has in it as circulating back to the heart and lungs. Either picked up inhaling, or reactive while in blood circulating . It effects heart at times, so is it acting like rheumatic heart? I'm thinking once remembered, in Kentucky somewhere around 1990 ish there was a strep that also caused death, a fear that did get contained rather quickly. No details other than death rapidly.
    Thanks for the update.
    The fluid being created in the aveoli seems to stem from return flow after use of oxygen.
    Is it considered regular or is there a difference in oxygen that the body uses? Since muscular pains and virus tend to effect total body, what's different during use while infected than when not. Is the carbon dioxide also more than a norm or is that different? I'm looking at where in the body does the process start. It seems at lungs, however incubation says a bit different when side effects are known. As compared to sepsis, can be understood in the blood, so instead the kidney or infected area, the exchange seems to redistribute at lungs mostly. Maybe a wrong thought, but seems likely. Thanks again, very informative.

    RE: COVID-19 Dr. Campbell: I'm a former asthma sufferer; I had an experience with smoking pot that surprised me, because generally smoke and asthma don't mix well. The vascular diluting effect of something in pot (the reason your eyes get bloodshot) actually helped me breath better (I think). I was about 18 at the time, some 45 years ago! Maybe someone can extrapolate a relief for CoVid-19 lung debilitation effect from this information. e.g. can oxygenation be improved via dilation of the lungs alveoli
