The alveoli ("many alveoli", "one alveolus") are the sites of gas exchange in the lungs. They are tiny air sacks sometimes described as being cauliflower-shaped. Oxygen diffuses across the lining of the alveoli and blood capillaries into and into red blood cells. Carbon dioxide diffuses from the blood to the alveoli. A concentration gradient is maintained by breathing as well as blood flow.
The main adaptation of the gas exchange surface are:
1. Large surface area
2. Thin wall
3. Moist lining
4. Good blood supply
5. Good ventilation
This 3 minute clip is more useful than my biology teacher, cheers
Same here
My biology teacher could whoop this 3-minute video's ass. so can't relate B)).
Wow owen so goood
Shut up you nerd
Go and get a girlfriend
thank you i got 98% in the exam :D

Great explanation! Alot better than some of the videos that look like they've been made in the great depression
Right
Wt do u mean? 😅
I'm leaving this comment when I should be revising because this was so helpful and didn't waste any time. Thank you!
Yes's
A relaxed voice that comes to the point. Perfect rate of distribution, perfect spacing. Thanks, you helped...and gained one subscriber :)
I’m glad you liked it so much!
I love it rily 💓💓💓💖💗💗💖💓💓💖❤️
Cmon that didn’t look like cauliflower 😂😂
It was a grape 😂
Nahh 💀
I don't understand my science teachers but this is the best teaching they know how to teach
This is the best science teaching ever i got 100% in my exam
NOOOOOO WAYYYYY
One of the best explanations ever
My school has taken this video for explaining 😂
Great explanation. To be honest I already understood all this sort of okay‐ish, and this was sent by my school as online study material, but this is really good. Extra good because of the exam help part (which I wrote down somewhere) I know the word is getting a bit repetitive, but good animation/diagrams and an equally good and short explanation.
This is what I was constantly finding..........this unique way of teaching awesome
Thank you! I spent 40 minutes trying to understand this topic, only to find that a three minute video did the job in THREE minutes, as promised :))
Thank you, this has helped me in my respiratory system assignment.
Thought this video was going to be lame and boring, turned out to be more useful and explanatory than my science teacher. Thanks dude.
I have a science test in 2 days and this video helped me a lot!!! Thank you so much!!!
This 3 mins video taught me smth my teacher couldn't teach me in 40 mins. TYSM! So useful for biology students
excellent video, concise and to the point
It REALLY helped. Thank you!
This was more useful than what my science teacher said thankssss 🙏🙏
I a science teacher really like the vocabulary used in the video
Very well explained video good work chief
omg this video is actually more helpful than any of my science teachers notes, i had a mental breakdown cause i didn't understand the topic and in just 3 minutes i understood it but u may want to slow it down because it does go a bit fast
This is soooo helpful and short so you don't get bored :D Thank's so much!
Thanks what you deliver here is the same as our biology teacher gave us
Thank you so much for this video it was very helpful.😁👍
no this 5 minute clip is better than my science teacher
Thank you so much sir . You saved me
I love your explanations. Would it be possible to to one on the villus?
using this in my power point, thanks so much. (I will Give Credit)
I understand clearly after watching this video this is video so useful thank you so much ❤️
Excellent as is the inhalation exhalation video. As a distance learning teacher, thank you!
Thanx a lot your video is really helpful 🏆
Love your videos
Thank you. It is very helpful
ill be using this explanation for my exam!! i may come back and tell you what i got!!
Thank you so much ❤️🙏🏻❤️

Thank u it was crystall clear
Nice. Ive always wondered exactly how this works
Say thanks to God
You have gained me like an hour of studying with this 3 minute video
Happy to help!
Thank you, especially because you explained how the concentration gradient is mantained
This video is very useful
helps me a lot
thank you sir
quarantine gang! My teacher sent us this link lol
Yup
thanks that really helped
Thanks for relighting my mind💛✌
Thank you so much I have enjoyed it
You sound like Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne mixed together

thats awsome
He only sounds like both because hes a man (the liam part) and a geordie (the cheryl part)

Hi! what happens if there is a high CO2 concentration in the atmosphere - how will this affect heart rate?
SHORT ANSWER: heart rate will increase. LONGER ANSWER: increased carbon dioxide in the air means more carbon dioxide will diffuse into the blood, raising the blood CO2 level. CO2, when dissolved in blood, makes blood more acidic. The brain recognises this drop in blood pH, and sends a signal to the heart to beat faster to try to remove it.
But I'm slightly confused. If oxygen diffuses into the capillary from the alveoli how does CO2 diffuse into the capillary as well?
The diffusion of one gas doesn't prevent the diffusion of another. Under normal circumstances, the blood CO2 level is higher that that in the alveoli, so CO2 would diffuse out of the blood. However, in the example you described where atmospheric CO2 level rises, the concentration in the alveoli would also increase. This would either slow the diffusion of CO2 out of the blood, or result in a change in direction of CO2 movement (if the atmospheric CO2 level became high enough).
Thank you so much, your explanation was perfect!
an amazing video - 10/10
hey! can you make a video of double circulation? thanks !
Did not expect a geordie accent 😂😂 pleasant surprise and great vid 👍🏼
Very good help thank you
thank you soooo much now I can finish my assignment
thank you, this was really helpful and interesting.
Thank you this video is very useful for me
So helpful,thanks 🙏
This was so useful thank you so much!! Ahh I'm going to pass my test now!!
well did you pass
Yes!
Going to subscribe to you because it when I looked at your channel, it seems you have videos for every topic we (probably) will do in school! Thanks a lot 😊
thank you science sauce i got many information
very helpful thanks
Helpful knowledge for understanding caronavirus
thank you so much!
Thanks Alot for the help ✨
Thanks so much man! I was always scratching my head when I saw words like "diffusion". I knew the basics of gas exchange but wanted to know more. Awesome explanation and very clear for a first semester human anatomy student! I'll try to remember this video in case my anatomy/physiology professor wants to give a more visual representation of gas exchange
that diagram is very useful
thanks
thank you so much, i understood the topic very well.
Thank you
Best sauce in the world!!!!
Thanks so much
Thank you this was very helpful!
+Haley Hodoval you're welcome
love it for study
gorgeous
Great video god bless thank you
I didn't understand the messy thing about capillaries of pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein with the air sac????
it made me understand some what
thank you!
Thank ya
We could make an external lung machine for use in emergencies of people suffocating which takes out a patient's blood, oxygenates it and then reintroduces it to the bloodstream so it keeps the patient in stable condition while the airway blockage is extracted?
I don't know, it just came to me.
its called a ventilator
you sound like willne and true geordie tbh and thanks for the help. this was way better than listening to my teacher for 2 hours explaining it over and over. im a visual learner so these pictures really help me and when i watch videos i understand more. thank you once again
You’re welcome.
Great explanation
Thank u I got 15% at exam😊
Congrats bro
Simply clever.......
It's helpful for me in my "Science" studies! In my "Science" book, I read about this "Alveoli" how it works? Then, I learn it practically from you.
Thanks a lot!!!!
Super helpful
this is prety useful
ur my lifesaver
it was very helpful thanks
NICE THX FOR THE HELP
Thankful
Thankyou so much 😊
These videos saved my GCSES thank you so much
