    When I decided to pay attention to saving I had to start small not due to budget constraints but because I wasn't disciplined. I had to build up the habits first. Then it became an addiction lol.

    My husband is a big change saver. He will pick up every penny you see on the street and put it in his pocket. Good tips. The 52 week will not work for me since I get paid semi-monthly AND I never go to the bank to get cash. So, I tweaked it by transferring $5 to savings as soon as my paycheck hits my account. That's on top of the $10 I send to the offspring's account. It's not much, but it feels good to see it all add up.

      The way I'm doing it this year is randomly choosing an amount every week off my 52 list... so January working within events it was dead with work so £5. £2, £15 and £20 flew off the list, then Feb was £55 amount and now what's left is £107 this month and £276 next month as I can afford more and it adds up; to over £1400 in the end!

    I do a slight variation of the 52 week money savings challenge every year. Instead of saving money that corresponds to the week, I use a random number generator on Google to randomly order numbers 1through 52. That way the big amounts are spread out. Sometimes in the latter part of the year, it can be a challenge saving over $200 extra per month, even though it's only $48, $50, etc. per week. By having the numbers random, I still save a set amount each week, but it's a little more evened out.

    • @candy2325
      @candy2325 2 роки тому +2

      I really like this idea 💡 I agree towards the end of the year is bumpy saving $40+ a week, so having it evened out I can knock out the bigger numbers earlier in the year, the middle and a little bit towards the end 😀

    New sub. My fun methods of saving are: Pots that you can’t empty which I know as a terramundi pot. I have several but specifically one in which I save all of my £2 coins and one that takes all of my 20 pence coins. £2 currently £1,288.00 and 20 pences currently £189.80. It still amazes me how much small change adds up and how I don’t miss it. I just started a new terramundi which I found in a charity shop for £3. This one will take all of my 50 pence coins. This has become a real hobby for me lol. I also do what I call the £5 £10 £15 £20 challenge. In 4 week blocks I save these notes in turn. At the end of 52 weeks, one year, I have £650.00. This takes little effort and forethought. I found the 52 week challenge I saw on UA-cam too daunting when I realised in weeks 49 50 51 and 52 I would have to save a total exceeding £200. That was scary. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. You make budgeting very interesting and at almost 65, I’m not too old to learn. Regards Jane Nottingham England x

    did the small change thing this month and had almost 50 euros in there :) so am pretty pleased
    about that... have to look into the other challenges though :P they seem like fun and with the easier amounts it should be doable. had to increase my food budget last month since all the grocceries got more expensive since we also need more fresh fruits and veggies for our toddler...ah well at least with these little savings challenges we can still save some although not extremely much :) but every little bit helps big time.

    Thank you for sharing your challenges. I've been saving $5 bills over the past ten years after a friend mentioned that he always set aside $5 bills. I initially thought he was being super extravagant, not spending any $5s. However, after trying it myself, I found it to be a rather painless way to set aside money. About five years ago, I started depositing the $5s into a holiday account at our credit union at the end of each month. I also set aside any brand new bills (must be completely flat, no wrinkles or folds) that I receive. New bills funded my emergency fund and paid for a trip to FL. When saving change, I enjoy setting up mini goals such as setting aside every coin minted the year my daughter was born or quarters from the year I graduated.

    My father used to keep all his bills in his wallet facing the same way from highest dollar amount to the smallest. ( hundred dollar bills down to one dollar bills) One day, when putting dollar bills back into his wallet from change he got at the supermarket, he said to me that if I respect money, money will respect me. That even includes a penny. Respect that penny! Look at how Kumiko respects her change. Even those pennies in the cup. They're not floating in the bottom of her purse, or rattling around on the floor of her car. Shes putting those pennies to good use for her son. Respect your money!

    I think a great challenge to do is parents against children. It’s reaching the goal not amounts. Picking up change, extra jobs, etc. I would suggest doing it for Birthdays/Christmas and vacations. If they like saving, then have them save for college or a car+expenses. Make is a project/game to achieve goals.

    I love this video. I will try these challenges. Maybe not the 5$ one though because my income is low. You have mentioned in a couple if videos that in the beginning you may barely have gas or food money after bills. Please tell me more about how you came so far in just a few years to be debt free and buy a home. I want to have hope that I can become debt free.

    That jar costs $24. No way. And the counting jars are very nice, but they cost around $11 each. Not possible for those on a limited budget.

      Just use a large glass jar instead. Or go to a local cafe/restaurant and see if they are throwing one out.

    If you take an old jar you can make a slit in the lid and then glue the lid on or seal it with wax or something that makes it hard to get into and that makes it less tempting to take it out before it's done

    I'm doing the 52 week challenge right now but have given myself liberty to mix up a larger month one week and then back to a small one the next week. That way the overall months are a little more even and I have a reminder in my phone that each week, I have to pick a box to check off. My giant jar started off with a little extra and I throw in any extra dollars or change throughout the month too so hopefully I will be over that $1300+ mark at the end of the year. Just another way to look at it.

    To tweak the $5 challenge if you are not using cash, could be every time your balance in your account ends in $5 you transfer the $5 to a savings account. So you check in after your bills come out, or you use your card and if say $365 was left, then you transfer $5.
