    I have an aluminum cast karambit for training purposes and it's by far my favorite one, really light, comfortable, awesome. I'd love to have some full tang ones, but the folders can usually be better concealed. As for folders, I mostly like fox karambits as they come with the clip in the right direction, screwed from the ring side towards the blade. Most brands get that wrong and put it in the opposite way, removing the possibility of quick deploy. Also way too many brands get the grip on the opossite side (like tac force, cold steel, etc) and you end up having to hold the knife upwards so it doesn't hurt your hand.

      I wish I knew more about proper clip orientation before I got my foldable Karambits a few years back lol, their clips are on the wrong side AND upside-down 💀

    I love the claw design of the karambit. My ideal karambit will have a claw like curvature (not the straighter hawkbill design) be made of carbon steel or spring steel and be a fixed blade karambit 😎👍

    This is much better than the other karambit video you have. You actually learned how to use it. The extension is for hooking limbs and joints at a slightly further range to bring in a cut.

    I have quite a few Karambit knives, dont know all the different types though. My favorite one is the one I got from funker tactical. It has a multi tool set and a catch so that it automatically deploys when you pull it out of your pocket.

  • @GadgetInspektor

    CRKT Provoke. I carry a knife on most occasions as a last measure for defense. But I always thought it would be a high risk to deploy it and then switch to reverse grip for effective combat. At that level of adrenaline, it would be very likely to fail. Fumble, or maybe cutting my own hand. The provoke is already connected to my hand/finger when pulled, it can be used as a non lethal brass knuckle, and the deployment of the blade is just a flip of the thumb without loosening the grip too much. It operates so naturally, that it is perfectly safe. Also compact and easy to carry. It doesn’t even look like a knife in closed condition.That thing is an excellent piece of kit.

    When you're beginning practicing with any knife, not just a karambit, I highly suggest wrapping some paper towels over the blade and duct taping it so it won't cut you, then once you're confident in your abilities remove it and practice with the slight weight difference :)

I made a heavier steel karambit to train with and I made a kevlar karambit to carry with me to use as a controlling tool. Love the karambit for self-defense. 06:47 I have four different hawkbill-style knives for similar use, a small fixed CRKT Keramin, a medium sized Fox folding kerambit and a larger Cold Steel Talon 2. Depending on the training scenario, I'll practice with either one on my weak hand side. The fourth one is a Spyderco Tasman Salt for swimming in open water, in case I get entangled in plants or smth (one of the main risks for drowning in Dutch inland water).

    • @keithbeckett1349
      @keithbeckett1349 Рік тому

      So you are practicing with the karambit in your weak hand? Howcome? I also had a similar thought as it essentially adds some worth and defence to your weak hand which otherwise wouldn't be as effective (as it doesn't exactly take much so swipe with a blade and do damage) whereas throwing a punch with a weak side vs your strong is a big difference

    2. Cold Steel Tiger Claw (My EDC just due to its slim design and it surprisingly big karambit blade made in the premium high end CTS-XHP steel with THEE UNMATCHABLE Tri-Ad Locking System)
    3. FOX 598 (The Fixed Blade Version) This is my go to karambit WHEN I AM TRAINING. It’s not overly big and it is highly concealable and has roomy space in the comfortable micarta handle and the strong fixed blade design)

    Saw one down the shore a bit ago double edged. With a gut hook and a bonus little spike on the ring. I'd have to say less a dream karambit for me and more a dream set up would automatically flip the blade (folder) from drawing.

    I don't own a karambit but I've actually been doing a lot of blacksmithing lately researching and experimenting trying to find the perfect blade for me

    I have the Schrade Shasta double edge Karambit. I love the larger size and double edge design. It's price is incredible, I like the Schrade better than some more expensive ones I own, and have handled. Plus it will take a hair shaving sharp edge.

    I have an MTech Extreme folding karambit with the exaggerated curve, and a handforged damascus steel traditional karambit with horn handle and brass pins by an independent smith.

      Nagash Unbroken question: do you fear the folder failing in actual use vs fixed blades or is that not on the table for discussion?

    • @skepticalsnek9989
      @skepticalsnek9989 4 роки тому +1

      @@saint2279 There's always a risk that a folder can fail on opening, fail on impact, or fail to remain locked. That's the price you pay for the portability. The only thing you can do is to get one of good build quality and keep it well maintained.

    UNDOUBTLY the Fox Karambit originated in Indonesia created on a tigers claw. Mine is made in Italy, best weapon for a woman, i wear mine on a weak chain around my neck so when i need it i can just pull it into the grip flick it open and its ready to go. I advise most women to learn to keep your heart rate below 180, that will stop you from freezing with fear.
