"no fighting game is too niche for a scene" Yep! this is probably what i love most about fighting games they can become passion projects where people unabashedly just love their game. Been really enjoying your videos highlighting obscure stuff!
The graphics and colour palette still work wonders! I didn't know about this game and this video was very enlightening! Truly no fighting game is too niche to be played!
I bought this used at a GameStop years back as a curiosity and was really blown away by how well it played. Had mad fun getting matches in this when I went to Combo Breaker (same year as those pics in the vid in fact!). Great game and thank you for giving it the coverage it deserves.
Love this game. That combo breaker tournament was so out of left field; on site sign ups after talking the game up the night before during the sailor moon bracket.
I had this game YEARS ago as a kid and I never forgot how great of a game it was. I could never beat the older man with the red shoto after the tournament who would always destroy me.
Glad to see someone talking about this game! Really hope we can get a new powerquest fighting game someday, it was awesome and I think it would have a lot of potential as a series. I played this gbc game all the time as a kid, could never beat Don Quixote in the third tournament though.
I got this free when I bought a Codebreaker for GBC. There was a sheet you could send in and get a free game with purchase. I don't remember what all of the choices were. I thought I was getting Dragon Quest, IDK if they messed up on the form or if I just had no attention span as a kid, but I got Power Quest. Still liked it!
Been putting this one off for awhile, this literally the last video you currently have I havent watch 😂 Your content and cadence with how you deliver it is great.
I remember grabbing this out of a bargain bin in a Superstore here in Canada. Popping it in, and really really enjoying it. I had no clue what kind of game it was, just bought it based on the cover. Thought it was going to be like Medabots haha. Thanks for speaking on this little gem!
FINALLY A MAINSTREAM REVIEW!!!! this game is my all time favorite childhood GBC game and it is criminally underrated and unknown. i’ve been praying power quest finally gets it’s day in the sun. thanks so much for making this review and hopefully it gives it some more exposure
just like your intro quote, youre extremely wholesome and real, the love for fighting games is expanded upon so many decades and places, and as people grow they tend to lean on hate rather than praise, you showed me a hidden gem i intend to play, i show you a new subcriber, your channel is a joy, thank you so much
Thank you for highlighting such an obscure game that looks really cool. I'm always trying to find awesome games that I overlooked in the 80's and 90's as so many of today's games seem to lack any soul. The passion that went into making these older games the very best they could be, rather than just ticking off a list of corporately mandated features is something I dearly miss.
I love this game. It got me into fighters and the FGC. It controls way better than it has any right to. I still go back to it from time to time. Speed was my favourite. The music also slaps. 1995 is a jam.
Stumbled upon it after looking through a No-Intro ROMset a few yeas ago and was instantly enamored And that was even before I truly awakened my inner fighting game fiend, so definitely do for a revisit Makes me happy it's not so obscure it's basically forgotten, because that would've been a shame
This game absolutely rocked! I love that the game was designed with the console in mind, instead of being a port. The sprites are nice and big, so it's easy to read their motions, and the system has all the complexity you could hope for given the limitations.
UA-cam recommended this video to me as the first result on the homepage. You have been blessed by the algorithm. An interesting game released in the west on a Nintendo console I had no idea existed, this is the content I want! Japanese games playable without knowing Japanese also my niche.
had this game as a kid. The awesome opening music will never leave my head. XD Also kinda love Borot, a absolute joke character, but it was still kinda fun to see if you can get anyway far with him. XD
I cannot believe this video exists!! I thought this game was a lost memory or Mandela effect... I had this game and loved it but could never find it on the internet! Thank you! Im not crazy
I can relate. Well there have been "rel life fighting robot" TV shows , even 15 years ago but... they were usually just remote cars with spikes on them XD hahahaha.
Max is basically Ryu/Ken, Speed is Chun li, Gong is Zangief/E. Honda, Axe kinda like Guile and Lon is more like Fei Long. I never played this as a kid but I spend hours on this on an emulator and yes it's basically like pokemon and street fighter lol
The weird thing about this game is that the English version came out only a month after the Japanese version. So Sunsoft must have been working on that version concurrent to the Japanese one, or had JSS make that version alongside the JP one. There are more differences that weren't mentioned, like how GPM uses battery backup to save, while PQ uses a password feature. Also, 1P mode isn't unlocked right away in GPM but is unlocked already in PQ. I played Power Quest first as a kid because my best friend at the time, a kid named Luis, had gotten the game somehow. I found out later that the Japanese version was published by Capcom and ended up buying it a while after I got my own copy of PQ. This video also brings up weird memories of this one guy on this site who posted the intro to GPM and got REALLY upset when I pointed out that it was the JP version of Power Quest. So much so, that he blocked me lol.
I remember reading about this game back in the day in a magazine and I was thinking about it lately (I don't know why) but I couldn't remember the name. Thank u so much!
Saw a review of Power Quest way back when, and actually found a copy at a local mom and pop game store. Of course I bought it, and was so glad I did. Very fun game, and I've spent a bit of free time thinking about how the game could be expanded on. I'd also just in general lol to see a re-release of this in some shape or form.
This game went with me everywhere as a kid I was a huge street fighter fan and this was basically SF on my gameboy it I still have it too found it in some old boxes few days ago
Out of all the games that get constantly rebooted and remastered, this is one that would actually deserve that...or perhaps a sequel with a viable story and more than only 1 town. The game looks good though. I'd love to play it.
I think the limitations of the platform made this game what it is. Unlimited resources might not allow the same magic to be replicated, unfortunately, due to a lack of focus.
Was always a big fan and supporter of this game. I even was once working on a short character overview and game mechanics series for this game, but ultimately had to scrap and discontinue it since the PC with all my original work and data got borked to high hell. I at least got to finish the general mechanics, Max, and Speed videos.
I adored how well this game handled back in the late 90s. And it's still a very solid and very responsive and intuitive game. It was well ahead of its time, and it is a shame it's not gotten further attention into a remake that could expand on the concept.
There’s a Transformers Beast wars fighting game on Game boy that was only released in Japan. It’s in one of those black GBC carts, it has supers (one for each mode), you can also transform and it works on the super game boy.
Bought this game when I was a kid and I always perk up when I see it mentioned somewhere. Would have loved to see the idea expanded. Sonic Battle next?
Holy crap I just got major nostalgia, I used to play this game wtf, I completely forgot about it, and I am NOT a fan of fighters but I distinctly remember this game
I adore portable fighting games and power quest is among my favorites. Its not nearly as fleshed out as anything made by Takara, like their GB ports of Battle Arena Toshinden or KoF 95, definitely nowhere near as refined as Ketou Beast Wars, but it is solid through and through, and id recommend anyone whose a fan of fighting games, chiptune, or pixel art check it out, as it has a lot to offer.
remember whe my brother have this game when where younger, and toying of a idea for new characters for the sequel. Also like to play a one-to-tone fight of two Borot to see who win first
Its sounds like it has a the bay beyblade style idea for the upgrades it would be pretty cool to see a new release that was more expansive like Pokemon and beyblade and digimon but kept its own style of fighting
Oh wow, last time I heard about this game was on a balrog’s Nintendo game room (is he still around?). All I remember was him not liking it, but I always thought it looked neat.
"no fighting game is too niche for a scene" Yep! this is probably what i love most about fighting games they can become passion projects where people unabashedly just love their game. Been really enjoying your videos highlighting obscure stuff!
Melty Blood made me learn that
Im here waiting for a tekken4 scene tbh
Same for racing games tbh!
@@stylesheetra9411 vf3 exists its similar but virtua fighter
The graphics and colour palette still work wonders! I didn't know about this game and this video was very enlightening! Truly no fighting game is too niche to be played!
True! Schwartzerblitz got a nice scene.
@@ikagura with some nice tournament moments too!
hello again
Dont let GBC hardware fool you, the controls are tight for fluid combos!
I bought this used at a GameStop years back as a curiosity and was really blown away by how well it played. Had mad fun getting matches in this when I went to Combo Breaker (same year as those pics in the vid in fact!). Great game and thank you for giving it the coverage it deserves.

sailor moon is yet another kino kusoge game
I loved Medabots and fighting games, so when I found this game way back when, I had a lot of fun!

Can't believe there's finally a useful review of this game on YT.

i wish every week was like this

What a gem of a game! And what a gem of a channel! I'm glad this got recommended to me, great work! :D
Still have my OG copy from my Gameboy Color. One of my favorite games I owned.

Can't wait to see you cover Neo Geo Pocket Color fighters. Actually competent fighters on a retro portable with just 2 buttons? Yup!
Model kit based fighting game is something I always wanted to be a thing and this EXISTS? My goodness!
People finding ways to make a GBC fg playable competitively. You love to see it.
UA-cam recommended this video to me as the first result on the homepage. You have been blessed by the algorithm. An interesting game released in the west on a Nintendo console I had no idea existed, this is the content I want! Japanese games playable without knowing Japanese also my niche.

Music SLAPS SUPER HARD
I cannot believe this video exists!! I thought this game was a lost memory or Mandela effect... I had this game and loved it but could never find it on the internet! Thank you! Im not crazy
Thanks for bringing this game too my attention! It's so awesome!
The look and feel of this reminds me of an NGPC game. Incredible work!
I wish we had irl fighting toy robots, Angelic layer, Medabots, Danball Senki, and this made me want this.
I can relate.
Well there have been "rel life fighting robot" TV shows , even 15 years ago but... they were usually just remote cars with spikes on them XD hahahaha.

Some of the toy robots remind me of Mega Man X-esque designs. Wonderful informative video! Earned my sub.

I remember reading about this game back in the day in a magazine and I was thinking about it lately (I don't know why) but I couldn't remember the name. Thank u so much!
man that coverart looks so good. i wish someone makes an upscaled version of this game.
I liked the concept of an rpg but instead of turn-based battles its just a fighter. Why hasnt this been recreated
Saw a review of Power Quest way back when, and actually found a copy at a local mom and pop game store.
Of course I bought it, and was so glad I did.

Hell yes. Been waiting for this one. Game is Soo good
I highly recommend Beast Wars for Game Boy Color imo the best fighter on there
Will definitely have to talk about that game at some point, it rules
Man they could've made a medabot tie in like this
I love your videos dude

wow, thats amazing for an 8 bit game.. beats a lot of early 16 bit fighters even!
Was always a big fan and supporter of this game.
I even was once working on a short character overview and game mechanics series for this game, but ultimately had to scrap and discontinue it since the PC with all my original work and data got borked to high hell.

excellent love this game dearly. would love to see you cover the GBA KOFS one day as well EX2 is my favorite kof lmao
Surprisingly smooth with the Gameboy limitations!
The animation alone is a reason I'd play this they look clean for a game boy color
I had this game and loved it just wish it had a real save system
So it's like Medabots, Gundam, Custom Robo, and Street Fighter all mixed in one. Dope!
Ah man. I remember seeing this in Nintendo Power, way back in the day. I thought it looked cool but never got a chance to try it... might do that now
I had this game! Omg im so glad i found a video on it
Absolutely love power quest.
Always wondered why no one knew about this game... even the music was gr8. I'm happy I was able to play ot back on the day using a Link Cable, lol.
My first gameboy(color) game. You will be amazed how tight the controls are
the soundtrack is probably my favourite part of this game
I want a BOYS sweater
This channel is to fighting games what Kenny Lauderdale is to anime.
Catch em all craze and the your own monster, partner genre
This just screams for some sorta fan remake in the style of a gba game. I might just find some buddies to do that
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved the RPG/fighting game
This is the plot for medabots
I remember playing this i was thinking this was the best game I've ever played on this console great times indeed

This is pretty much CLAMP's anime/manga Angelic Layer and I love it
wow a game from my childhood has a competitive scene
Holy crap I just got major nostalgia, I used to play this game wtf, I completely forgot about it, and I am NOT a fan of fighters but I distinctly remember this game
Totalmente excelente! Joguei a muito tempo atrás esse jogo, e achei maravilhoso, mas não lembrava o nome. Muito obrigado!
This is likely the hardest fighting game I ever beat. It's great.
I really love Power Quest, Sunsoft made some great stuff on the GB and GBC
It's like Biomotor Unitron if it had fighting game combat instead of regular turn-based RPG stuff
Wow, the concept sounds like a combination of Medabots & Custom Robo.
How no one talks about the BRUTALLY GREAT Real Bout Special for GB?
Would love to see a remake of this.
A lost gem that's forgotten is Draglade for the DS. It's a fighting game with RPG elements. I think it's worth checking out
Dragblade rules! I'll have to talk about it at some point
I read about this in the 90s and saw 3 or 4 screenshots but until now I never saw any video, I'm searching for the ROM immediately.
The concept of this game reminds me a lot of the anime Plawres Sanshiro.
Super cool game! Loved the video
another guile banger
This was the first game I had for my GBC.
I remember playing this game as a kid
remember whe my brother have this game when where younger, and toying of a idea for new characters for the sequel.
Also like to play a one-to-tone fight of two Borot to see who win first
I had this in middle school.. it was amazing
They need to remaster this fasho. I remember this game like it was yesterday and im 31
HOLY SHIT SOMEONE REMEMBERED THIS
This looks sick actually
This does look fun but wasn't until you've metioned this game has Super Game Boy support that is when it sold me.
An interesting idea for modern fg to explore
There's also beast Wars, it's a pretty fun well-made and broken fighting game
the concept of Power Quest reminded me of LBX/Danball Senki
Good vid, I enjoy
Its sounds like it has a the bay beyblade style idea for the upgrades it would be pretty cool to see a new release that was more expansive like Pokemon and beyblade and digimon but kept its own style of fighting
Oh I miss this game it was fuuuun
its like medabots but equally as dope
Fight and grind on Game Boy
Oh wow, last time I heard about this game was on a balrog’s Nintendo game room (is he still around?). All I remember was him not liking it, but I always thought it looked neat.
