  • RC Helicopter Main Rotor Head Mechanism Animation (Including Swashplate) in Solidworks
    This Helicopter Main Rotor Head/Blade System All Parts Design, Assembly and Motion Study/Animation are Entirely Created in Solidworks Software. This video is a simple demonstration of How Helicopter Fly/Works & how Swash plate mechanism is used for changing the Rotor Blade Pitch Angle in order to control the Collective and Pitch, that helps a helicopter in take off, landing and moving forward-backward-left-right.
    This RC Helicopter Main Rotor Head Mechanism Consists of:
    1. Base ( with Bearing & Anti-Rotation Bracket)
    2. Servo Motor
    3. Control Links (controls Swashplate Movement)
    4. Pitch Links (controls Main Rotor holder)
    5. Swashplate (used to transmit pilot's commands like Pitch Control,Roll, Collective to the Main Rotor Blade of the Helicopter. This way Helicopter can be moved Up-down, left-right, forward-backward.
    6. Main Rotor Housing
    7. Main Rotor Blade Holder
    8. Shafts & Necessary Fasteners
    9. Rotor Blades

      @@stumpusMaximus I mean yeah, sort of....still nothing quite like this...he designed a pretty basic crank powered air screw.. State of the art at the time, but just this rotor alone is about as complex if not more.
      With DaVinci, the complexity of the engineering wasn't that impressive, but rather it was the genius of developing the concept itself to begin with, being so unfathomably unique for the time.
      It was impressive what he did, but IMO, had he not been quite the isolationist and could have collaborated with some people more skilled in materials and engineering at the time, he may well have created something that excelled on all fronts...not just concept.

    In most RC helicopters the ball joint at the blade fork is on the leading edge, not the trailing edge. this inverts the operation of the collective: in your diagram the swashplate goes down to increase pitch, in most RC helis the swash raises in order to increase pitch. Also, your head rotates counter-clockwise from above wheras the convention is to rotate clockwise. you can solve both problems at once by simply installing mirror image blades.

    Really excellent work, you even got the 90 degrees out of phase for blade lag. One minor comment. Your blafe pitch was the wrong way around, collective up, all blades pitch up, yours go down. Easy enough fix.
    Blades are generally symmetrical on helicopters, except for the Chinook.

    • @jimthomson1892
      @jimthomson1892 2 роки тому +2

      His model has trailing edge pitch horns. With this configuration, collective control up would have to cause the slashplate to move down, pitching the blades leading edge up. This would be reversed for leading edge pitch horns. It would have been better to refer to swashplate movement- up and down for collective pitch and tilting for cyclic pitch-as there is no connection between the cockpit controls and the rotor head in this model.

    • @edadriano9426
      @edadriano9426 2 роки тому

      I agree. Blade grip linkages should have to be installed forward the blade grips. His configuration inverses the Pitch up with collectives sticks all the way down.

    Lot's of people here wanting to make their own helicopter from a simple animation that shows 3 axis push/pull interactions. But in the real world there is something called friction, and another thing called resonance, and inertia, and gyroscopic force, and mechanical moments. And about 20 other factors that need to precisely balance to overcome gravity without dropping yourself 4 meters and crushing your spine, or having your body sliced into primal cuts of meat by a whirling blade that goes out of track due to a miscalibration, or one of multiple fasteners flying apart because just one of those failed. Come to think of it. Building your own helicopter, could help solve global overpopulation.

    2:16 Swashplate moving up should give you positive pitch, not negative pitch.

    • @TheBigFatHairyCheese
      @TheBigFatHairyCheese 3 роки тому

      Often yes, but not for this design.
      This rotor head is using a negative advance angle, so the swashplate must be LOWERED to increase the pitch angle.
      Long explanation:
      - Negative advance angle: the pitch horn attaches to the trailing edge (rear) of the blade: LOWERING the swashplate pulls the back of the blade down, raising collective pitch.
      - Positive advance angle: the pitch horn attaches to the leading edge (front) of the blade: raising the swashplate lifts the front of the blade up, increasing collective pitch.
      Some real helicopters (e.g. the B105) use a negative advance angle, while others (e.g. the R44) use a positive advance angle.

    • @alanwhitfield1907
      @alanwhitfield1907 2 роки тому

      The vast majority of helicopters have the pitch change links connected to the leading edge of the blades so that raising the swashplate causes increase in blade angle of attack. The only types that I know with the pitch change links connected to the trailing edge are the Bolkow 105 and the Hughes 269. The rotor head from the 269 was also used on the McUlloch J2 autygyro, and possibly on a few other autogyro designs.
