This is part 11 of the EXPERIMENTAL HELICOPTER BUILD SERIES
#buildseries
See how i do a update on the Main Gearbox here: ua-cam.com/video/whfStV1Pk_g/v-deo.html
Following this experimental gear box how it works nice sharing goodluck
Wow, this is an awesome build! Personally, I wouldn't trust my life with one 1/4" keyway for the main gear, I would use a splined shaft, but still, great work!
Thanks Diesel Zuk. Good point... I keep a splined shaft in my mind for a update...
Jesus!!!!!
Fantastic tolerances on those bearings
Clean work very interesting I'm waiting to see full helicopter ready to fly
Love from Malaysia
Thank you :-)
Nicely executed! One remark though - it's an engineering misconception that key slots carry torque. They don't or to a minimal extent. The big gear should be press-fit in order to generate enough friction to carry torque without slippage. TBH I don't know the level of torque you are transmitting but that gear is beefy. The smaller gear instead at least is loaded axially and can cope with the smaller torque. My two cents...
Thanks... Yes i get your point i will do a upgrade on the gearbox regarding torque slippage... stay tuned....
Does the gear box not require more grease than that in it dude ? or would it be better with oil seals fitted and gear oil in it ?
Just asking 😁😁🤘🤘
Yes i will probably update to use gear oil in it...
Very nice work. you are certainly putting some hours in on this project. look froward to the next video.
Thank you !
Hi
amazing tecnick...good job👍👍👍 you'r my teacher 😀😀😀
Thank you robi tenar
Best of the best
Good jobs and perfect matrial
I like your video, the manufacturing technique is very good
What a great project! But I have one question: Why do you use open bearings? Wouldn‘t shielded or sealed ones be much safer?
The gears are inside an enclosed housing. It is best to lubricate the bearings at the same time as the gear mesh. The questions is how the gear mesh is lubricated. We see some grease is applied during assembly. This is no where sufficient lubrication for operation. I strongly recommend oil lubrication. You will need an oil drain port, oil level port, and oil filler port. The oil filler port can be used to fit a breather. Not sure what will be the operating RPM. At very high RPM, it is common to have pressure lubrication over the gear mesh.
@@jeanphilippepoirier6130 helicopter rotors run at relatively low speed due to the large rotor diameter. I don't know the speed of this one, but under 500 RPM is likely.
Thanks for this video
😍😍😍
Your welcome :-)
Very nice
Very good video
Vc e um gênio cara👏👏
Great work
Nice work on the gearbox. One thing is never wear gloves when operating rotating assemblies like lathes, mills, drill press. It's easy to forget that you are wearing gloves and can get your hand, fingers pulled into the rotating parts of the machine. I had my index finger twisted off my hand. Keep up the good work.
Use latex gloves from walmart, they tear easily
Definitely never use any other kind of glove working with any lathe or mill
It's better to have the bearing in a plastic bag when you put it in the freezer. Still amazing work
I agree Nicka B... And thank you for the support :-)
I think that gearbox is going to be problematic. Almost all enclosed gearboxes that operate at that kind of speed are in an oil bath they are not just dabbed with a little grease. I'm pretty sure that is why the main reductions are done with belts on the Mosquito helis, this is a tried and very successfully proven design. It is also far more forgiving of slight misalignment than gear drives are. I plan on building the Furia heli but it will have six groove Vee belt pulleys instead of the main gearbox.
I will do a upgrade on it. I missed the point where the original plans for the furia recommend to use oil in the gearbox, but for me i will prefer oil . I like the mosquito design with the belts too, but as i stick with the furia plans i build it this way... and hopefully improving.... All the best for your furia build, i like to see some content in the future...
You could always use a few of those CO2 cartridges for a quicker and smaller metal shrinking.
Amazing job
Thank you!
one question
you know that when you make lift your props like to life up your main shaft up to lift you up
this up force will destroy your normal type ball bearing...
you should use some type of bearing that can handle the force in that axis as well
did you?
hy Hots 2 I will do a update on the gearbox bevore the first flight... stay tuned
thanks so much
If you design to fill oil gear inside that would be great , but so challenge jobs anyway.
nice work
Abdo Eshwehdi thank you, i really appreciate it!
Nice
trop super cette vidéo
Thank you christian kammogne.
Nice work man!!
Thank you! :-)
Thank you for great video ! Did I miss the gear oil fill hole ?
thanks sir im glad you like my video. I do a update video to use oil in the gearbox before first flight. I wish a good weekend...
how do you plan to lubricate the bearings and gears?
Amazing 👏..Keep it up..
Double the bearings on pinion.
This is soooo pleasant
You need to use tapered roller bearings
Spectacular work. Many years ago I considered building 1 as well (bought a cessna 150 instead) is this based off of 1 of the plan sets out there or your own design? What are you doing for rotor blades? Buying them or building them? And what material? Also what are your engine plans? I will be watching this with great interest
Hy Craig Tate. Thank you :-) I think about in the Rotax 582 Ul category but still comparing...
Tenks my prenk video is good
Very soft shafts, need surface hardening
hi bro ur video are awesome please make it longer
(THANKS)
That' all the lube you are using? I should think you'd want shaft seals, gaskets, and a decent volume of oil. And the bearings. You are not using permanently lubricated sealed? How will you lube them in use?
Raul McCai i will do a upgrade to use oil in it, thanks for your constructive comment.
Great work. i want to be your student
Thank you, im glad you liked my video :-)
you have to change or add a top bearing to a thrust bearing because that bearing you used is not recommended for this type of load
Hy marco. What bearings would you recommend?
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I want to buy it, where and how will I get it?
How about gear ratio.? Perfect work
kopito thai thank you. The Pinion has 23 teeth, Main Gear 95 teeth so its about 1:4 i guess...
Which engine are u going to use Yamaha or European.
And how much rpm should it require to lift 1 ton or half ton weight.
Please give the model number and pricing details of the engine also.
Next video is about the engine i hope i can answer this soon....
Which engine best for one seat helicopter
Technical Yamraj good engine for one seat helicopter is one with good power and not much weight...
is that aluminium what you use ?
that is a nice hand brake, i used one in trade school 40 plus years ago, not exactly like yours but had both sets of fingers removable, what brand is it?
I want to ask you something. I want to build a helicopter, it's just a dream of mine, I don't know how to bleed it.
Please help me.
How i contact you sir
Not used oil seals on bearings.....👎
Hey.. may I know what engine are u using?? Is it car engine??
Gear ratio? And gears no of tooth?
Hy ahmed. The gear reduction ratio is around 4:1
i need order one by one can ?
How you make this two gears?
I want to use automotive factory gears
im jealous youre router cuts true circles, mine cuts whatever it thinks a circle is , then i have to ream the hole afterwards
👍👍👍
What country are you from my friend? do you have an email address.. I want to chat with you, thank you
How are you lubricating the gearbox?
Make sure of your materials correct heat treatment and hardware in that rotor box. Also need to check for run out in the bearings and shaft and gear mesh. This is from 35 years as an aerospace machinist and assembler. Always remember it is the little things that can bring you down.
this seems like a gearbox that is going to fail allot faster then he wanted. It scares me watching this. There's too much play between the teeth, how are the materials hardened? Things are never as easy as they seem.
can you share the PCD calculation for the main gear box,, i failed to make a smooth gear box ,, i think the pcd of the both shaft are not properly placed on housing .. Or the grears engagement is tight .. plz share if you have ..
Nice but, Why not fill the gearbox with liquid oil? this would prevent the gearbox from overheating !!
Iits also a nice idea but it does not really matter depend on the rpm
ASALAM-ALAYKUM 😯😯😯👍👍👍🇺🇿
balancing with those cotter pins isn't going to be a problem?
Beautiful work, very well accomplished, ask what is the relationship between the pinion and the crown, so you can see at first glance it would be 7: 1 or less. I didn't like the sound of the pinion bearing very much, sorry. greetings and keep it up
Thank you! The relationship of the gears is around 4:1 (95 Teeth to 23 Teeth)
The small gear is a pinion, but the large gear is not a crown.
What's lubricating the main bearings?
Llllllllllllllllll

woow best
Interesting design! Good luck!
very cool , bravoooooooooooooooo
My hero
Great gearbox but for a helicopter this scares me.
wouldn't it be lighter to weld even if it meant cutting through those welds to access later
merci bien
Surly that gear box needs to be oil filled?
Kerja yg bagus 👍👍👍
🤞🤞🤞
You really never showed much for lubrication in that a gear box, and did not do any follow up on those 3 filed 1/2 holes on the cover plate
I noticed the unused notches. My guess it that they're just for prying this cover out.
Too much good! 😁
Thanks John Smith :-)
Sir every time you are amazing us with your work.love from india
Thanks for your support Sir... love to india...
👍🇲🇾
There's no way i'd fly a helicopter with a homebuild gearbox.
