Great resto video! My son and I are working on a 69 Ghia that we saved from the car crushers. We have some videos up and will be adding more as we progress 👍✌️
It has been 4 years since I purchased this car. Although seldom used, the car has been a lot of fun and much admired. Ed did an outstanding job. In December 2013 I decided to upgrade some systems. At present the car is in the process of getting all-new wiring and fuse box, re-doing the fuel tank (a bit rusty), starter repair and replacing the bushings for the shift lever. I also experienced some hesitation on acceleration this past summer which needs to be addressed.
Thanks Steve for sharing an update on the car, please post some videos of it! I too have a mid yearmodel 63/64 so have looked through these videos many times.
That car is in beautiful condition! Our family had a 64 Bug, but it was the lowest trim level. No gas gage, no door map pockets, no radio and a little less interior trim and and all rubber window seals, no plastic inlay and amber colored turn signals. Same 40Hp engine.
The spare is how they came. Never the large white walls. There is a filter in the pump. No need for a leaker dangling above the dist. Really nice. I have a 64 sunroof and 40 years ago my first car was a 64. Small windows!
Nice car, shame you had to sell. I am sure the judges who gave you the trophy know their vw stuff unlike others. Early 64's did (though not all) came out of the factory with the peanut style front turn signals and the small license plate light. It is very possible that they are not only correct but original to the car.
a very nice car. i have a 1965 bug with an extremely rare condition with the original interior components and leather and carpets and seats. it's in cairo, Egypt.
Very nice rig! Lots of attention to detail. I am currently restoring a '64. It's a lot of fun! My bug (named Daisy) has the small license plate light cover (like a '63) but has amber colored front blinker housings (not clear like yours.) I read that VW would sometimes use up whatever they had left from a previous year on the next year models, so it's not always crystal clear what model year the bug is until you run the numbers.
Also the Blinkers should blink at the top of the rear tail lights and the stop are at the bottom. My 64 has a wide rear license plate light and wider front indicators with amber.
Olá amigo tudo bem? Restaurei um Beetle 1969 cerry. ficou muito bom a restauração do seu beetle 1964 red. Depois te mando as fotos do meu blz. até mais abraço
Beautiful restoration but to pick a little, the front turn signals are from 63 as is the rear license light assembly. I had a new 63 in ruby red also, and I remember it well. Wich I still owned it.
@@alpca682 Agree, I have a 64 that my dad purchased in 64. It has a wide license plate light and wider front Turn indicators with amber lenses. So is that a early 64 and the production run changed or it's really a 63 purchased in 64? I don't remember the firing order also being labeled on the generator stand.
Is it original to not have the "H" pattern on the apron? cause i see that you don't have it and i don't eather but i thought that was original to have it.
We had a 63 red bug. Maybe someone knows -- when did VW start using the "straight up" headlights instead of the contoured ones? Was that 1965-66? I know they had them in 67 because we owned a 67 bug.
I have a '64. Made Sept. '63 metal sunroof, round side mirror, Pope's nose license plate light, large front amber turn signal lights. Looks like a '63 until you see the sunroof. Transitional period.

Congratulations. Trophies well deserved.
Beautiful, I love the colour 👍
the beetle is awesome
Nice, I am 61 now but my 1st car at age 17 was a 1961 bug, non gas gauge that year, 1st year of 40 hp and synchro 1st gear
Not everyone can act as a camera man, but the car is fantastic.
Looks like it just run out of the factory!!! well done
a very nice car. i have a 1965 bug with an extremely rare condition with the original interior components and leather and carpets and seats. it's in cairo, Egypt.
I like it very much
Lovely bug. But the license plate light housing was updated that year and not reflected in this restore
Beautiful car.
what a great great vw
That is a 1964 VW fully equipped with all available factory options at the time. i.e. A BACKUP LIGHT.
That's all there was - Period. Beautiful Car.
That is a beautiful car
I literally have the exact same car in every shape and form except mine is a 1963
What a cutie, am looking for one like it.

Cool
Sweet - magnificent
how much did it sale for?
What is the switch next to the ash tray used for? I have seen them on several beetles but could never figure it out.
Cigarette lighter
I noticed you tried to get that cam to get off the throttle lever.
Sweet bug, nice.

How much paid for it?
I wish i had a bug like that!!! how much are you asking for it???? :) how thick is the steel?? thanks!!
He probably got the tires from Diamond Back Classic Radial Co.
or Coker Tire Co.
no prices ???

I'm mystified why it had a late '50s New Jersey license plate on the front instead of the correct black-on-straw one from 1964.
how much money did you spend?

1967
@@alpca682 Yes 67 when they went to 12 volts
Is that a one-piece headliner? The tucks around the back window confuse me.
looks like a bad tuck job
Beautiful job, but your idle is to high.
Restore the jack and other parts
Shouldn't the '64 have a wide license plate light?
Early '64s had the peanut turn signals up front and pope's nose license light. My June '64 has the bigger turn signals and wider license light holder.
I have a '64. Made Sept. '63 metal sunroof, round side mirror, Pope's nose license plate light, large front amber turn signal lights. Looks like a '63 until you see the sunroof. Transitional period.

This is not 1964, this is vw 1962. Lamp of plat number long and window for pasenger open for 1964. Lamp for plat number little same with the video.
