Sentaro runs a small bakery that serves dorayakis-pastries filled with sweet red bean paste. When an old lady, Tokue, offers to help in the kitchen, he reluctantly accepts. But Tokue proves to have magic in her hands when it comes to making sweet bean paste. Thanks to her secret recipe, the little business soon flourishes. And with time, Sentaro and Tokue will open their hearts to reveal old wounds.

Damn man I'm by chapter 28 and chapter 27 just broke me. I have to watch this movie. The book is so nice.
This film is an undiscovered gem - at least here in the west - it has become a favourite of mine & I can't recommend it enough.
This movie will stomp on your heart in the kindest, sweetest way.
Absolutely loved this. Mellow, but extremely profound. Can't recommend it enough for those who enjoy quieter, slower paced, thoughtful movies with an ultimately positive message. I wish I knew of more like it.

I might also recommend a another good Movie with Kirin Kiki, in it called, Still Walking, Directed By Hirokazu Kore-eda.
The ending is normal. But I don't know why my heart shattered. My favorite Hirokazu Kore-eda.
Kirin Kiki's life is actually almost similar as this movie's ending
Beautiful movie, especially I enjoyed the dialogue between Tokue and "Boss" - motivating, inspiring. It was worth seeing every minute, indeed it has some thoughts inside to think about for each of us. Now I will know what is dorayaki!

i seriously recommend you read the book "Sweet Bean Paste" ...this story portrays much more than friendship, compassion or dorayaki's.

@@SoaringKiyo I am reading the book and that's how I found out about the movie. I read it at work and I'm by chapter 28. I had to stop reading because chapter 27 was making me cry and didn't want to cry in the middle of work.
