6:27-8:10 Hold up... This shot lasted one minute and 43 seconds, and you somehow managed to do it in a public street, whilst simultaneously driving your Onewheel, pointing the camera at yourself, AND memorising your lines! That is seriously impressive. *slow clap*
Riding a onewheel actually becomes incredibly easy once you get used to it. I could send a text message while riding a onewheel, and have before. (I was on a bike trail not the busy street). At first it is very hard and you feel very wobbly, but eventually your body and mind adapts and you don't even have to think about balancing, it comes as naturally as breathing. its actually even easier to ride then a skateboard by quite a lot because you could go over a rock the size of a fist and still not fall off the board, yet even small pebbles can send you flying off a skateboard.
I'm glad you made this video. I think this encourages other creators to make videos about R2R, even if it's not the usual content they make. Keep up the great work!

OK we have to add an adequate parallel voltage through redneckary before unplugging the original battery in order to maintain the BMS firmware. Thanks for the insight dude. Legendary.
Subscribed to your channel just because of this video. Hope it’s helpful. I have never felt so torn between a product that I truly love, that is changed my life and who’s creator and manufacturer I have so much hatred for. I cannot wait until Vesc is ready for prime time.
I live in Sweden and own a totally tricked out Pint. I pre-ordered the GT within the first hour of the announcement with an original estimated date of January 18th. I was so excited for the upgrade until all these 1st batch problems started surfacing but when information of the proprietary hubs, axles, tires and finally that bms lockout were discovered, I soon became very anxious! The final straw came when I watched Luis Rossman’s long video with Josh! I was so disgusted that I, with a sad heart, cancelled my GT order earlier this week despite knowing It would be too late to return the accessories I had received a month ago. To FM’s credit, there was no fuss and they credited my account within two days! I also told them that It was just not feasible for me to send back a board for a simple thing like a tyre change and if they opened up a service center in Europe I would reconsider a possible GT purchase in the future, they understood and replied that they are in the final stages of setting up a European service Center and they would keep me posted! If they do not change their ways I think FM are doomed, the GT launch might cost them dearly, the people have spoken and now they are starting to put their money where their mouths are which is no longer going into FM’s bank account!

I’m glad to see that’s not the case, and that I now have a few videos to watch! Also the board continuing to move when you get off? That’s like something that belongs in Black Mirror 😂
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I'm in the UK. FM warranty policy states that it is dangerous to modify the battery controls etc. but no one is suggesting that. Swapping out an old or u/s battery is not a modification and to suggest that it is dangerous is tantamount to admitting their product has been poorly thought out. Unfortunately, unless legislation is introduced to ensure the right to repair for all customers who own a product, things will get worse. Granted, not all owners will want to repair their product, but it should be sacrosanct to be able to have the choice, That is what should be fought for in legislation throughout the world.
I know a thing or two about batteries and cells and balancing, but you explained it amazingly well. Thumbs up for the clarity and humility. Good stuff. Keep it up.
My pint was acting up, shutting off from things that shouldn’t shut it off. So I sent it to them for repair. They told me it was fine and sent it back and the next week I was inches away from getting hit by a 45 mph car because it nose dived on a small bump
There are restrictions to shipping to Australia as well. Residents on one side of Australia often have to travel to the other side of the country if they really want their board. There are limited DG sites there through FedEx, their standard international courier, and so they can only send them to about 5-6 locations in Australia if the citizens do not have a DG center near them. After having to tell people from Tasmania they have to travel to Australia to pick up their boards from a DG center, I have heard plenty of anger.
Great video. Straight to the point! Well filmed and informative too. That's infuriating how community was pushed to the limit with low service quality and an absolutely absurd policies. Even more dissapointing is FM attitude...
My older brother fell off one of these without a helmet and cracked his skull requiring surgery to drain excess fluid around his brain and racked up $10,000s in medical bills (mostly covered by his company anyway). Also this happened at the start of 2020 when the pandemic kicked off. I think it was some sort of glitch when coming to a stop or riding up a kerb or something. No idea if it was modified or not. Small electric vehicles are sort of in a grey area still even though they've been around for some time now. I get the hesitance for fear of bad press, I probably won't ride one of these things after my brothers accident which was well before the current controversy (no pun intended). Locking down the whole system won't stop accidents so being overly paranoid about it won't stop bad press, in fact as we can see it's making it worse. It's just common sense that accidents due to third party modifications are not Future Motion's (or any companys) fault. Acceptance of small electric vehicles has to come from society as a whole which sadly has been painfully slow due to our current risk averse, unreasonable liability victim blaming culture (with a good dose of clickbait emotive media spin stories) which is trying to keep us safe by not letting us do anything new at all.
Damn, I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t really have much else to add to this comment, other than I totally agree, although I think that how much these things are societally accepted fluctuates greatly depending on where you live. Not even just country to country, but even to the level of city by city (or state by state in the US)
@@itsjaynguyen Yep he should have been, although most people seem not to bother, just a cautionary tale. He's doing fine now it was just a bit dodgy at the time. I don't have one of these small vehicles yet partly because of the laws in the UK. I do usually wear a helmet although that's on my enduro mtb so that's sort of a different situation (although landing on dirt is generally better than the pavement so I always wear a helmet anyway). I think modern enduro helmets are actually kinda stylish.
Sadly I fell into the hole of no helmet in the beginning. After hitting my head three times, I don’t ride without one now. That was over a year ago and let me tell you my helmet is banged up. Safety gear is a must. Super sorry to hear about this.

I guess I was one of the lucky ones... Not only did I receive my OW GT the next day after ordering, but I never had an issue until the day my Battery suddenly cut out on me and nosedived at 21.6mph. Shattered my left femur. I wasn't wearing any body protective gear, so it's my own fault I got so banged up that I had to be Life-flighted to the Trauma Center in Roseville CA. Not wearing a helmet proved to be a bad idea also. I'll definitely watch my OW's battery power level next time I ride... soon as I heal up a little better. BTW, I turned 72 yrs old last November and I still love my GT.... just not gonna overestimate my abilities nor that of my GT battery.

Been thinking seriously on buying a board but now I am definitely not. Right to repair because I own it. Why would a company make it more difficult unless it's about their profit which they will get none from me
If you're looking at getting a onewheel the older models such as the plus and the XR are still fantastic devices, and since they lack many of the hardware and firmware lockouts that the newer models have, they can be supported by the third party independent repairers network called Stoke Life Service or even by you, the user if you know what you're doing. (Future motion kind of shot themselves in the foot here, because these models are very robust and easy to repair) Outside of future motion, It's kind of slim pickings for one wheel skateboards. There's Trotter which is a chinese-based company which makes a very similar product, The Magwheel. And then there's VESC which is an open sourced balance acceleration controller which would allow you to build a DIY onewheel.

The BMS lockout could very well be required by their liability insurance. These things are a personal injury lawyer's dream, even without the potential (but very real) battery safety issues.

As much as I wanted to try out the GT I actually talked my cousin out of buying it because it would have been his first wheel experience and I feel DOA or ghosting would have ruined it for him. Also lack of customization and the whole kill switch thing is pretty shitty.. #FFM
UPDATE: my cousin ended up getting the GT anyway and it ghosted on him after 10 miles. It’s all sorts of messed up now.. but on a positive note - my EUC is getting delivered soon! #FFM
I live in the USA and I am still mad about this. Sure sending back to future motion would be much much cheaper for me for them to fix it, probably only $400 something dollars, but that would still be much more money then what it would cost me to buy the parts and fix it myself. im not just talking about the battery either. Every part should be sold separately to distributors, including the motor hub. If distributors had lots of spare parts laying around for every onewheel and it was easy and cheap to repair, Onewheels would sell even better. People invest in bikes/dirtbikes because it is easy to get parts to fix them, if the same was true for onewheels more people would buy them and see them as a product that can last a lifetime. Future motion is literally throwing money out the window with their decision pretty dumb.
All they'd have to do is open up certified repair centers in multiple cities, states, and countries. They could charge a licensing fee and make a good profit. Hopefully this issue doesn't touch the PX I plan to get one in a few months, but if my only option for repairs is OW I'm on edge. I'd be glad to give them my business locally not have to ship it out.
Thanks for your help. The more Onewheel-related videos like this flood YT, the more the word gets out. Glad your Pint's still working and you didn't make the mistake of buying a GT. Consider a helmet though.
Sold all the one wheels after purchasing a high speed scooters. Much much faster with no foot pad problems or nose dives. We ride 20= 40 miles per ride no prob at 30-50 mph! More comfortable on deck, longer range, much faster, suspension, incredible brakes, cruise control, lights and indicators phone and speaker system mount on handle bars etc.... Safer and more enjoyable for our family. Be safe👍
Eh, it's probably not a volatile vs. non-volatile memory issue. More likely, it's just that the batteries are electronically serialized and there logic in the microcontroller that recognizes when the original battery's been removed and refuses to operate if it sees a different serial number.
I understand how some companies are prohibiting self-repair because technology is getting more advanced and more complicated for the common user to repair, however... What they underestimate is that people are also getting smarter and more tutorials that safely show how to self-repair are coming out. How do you expect society to grow and innovate if you keep them in the shell
I'd really like to get a GT, but between the price and anti-consumer practices of FM, it does make me want to pick up a used XR that's already a CBXR or one with a compatible firmware. VESC would be cool, but feel like it may be too technical for me unless I wanted to spend tons of time diving into it.
bro I've had issues too I have videos and some they worked out with me to take down ,,,,I love Onewheel but the FM needs to get alot better , speak on it brother
The World's Fastest Indian had to forge his own pistons when his motor 'bricked'. But at least he was able to work around the problem. Not so with a bricked controller. Unless someone hacks it. Chevy diesel trucks go into a limp to dealer mode with only 100 miles range at reduced speed before being bricked (requiring a tow) for a variety of reasons, including 'deteriorated' DEF fluid. It costs $1200 just for the dealer to reset the computer, and the cost of repairs escalate quickly from there. Imagine being in B.F. Alaska in the dead of winter when this occurs. So OneWheel isn't the only company with expensive and hostile policies.
Companies are going towards to don't repair unless it's us. Show me the $$$ When companies have complete proprietary I usually stay away. DIY repair are lagging n being prevented by many corp.

Can't you just connect an external power supply in parallel before you start the battery swap? Looks like you could just tap into the back of the connector so you'd never lose power during the swap.
Get an XR, mod the shit out of it, if they never fix these issues with the GT, don't buy it, I made that mistake, already done and dad is excited about it so I'm giving it a chance, but to those who haven't already gotten it, I recommend the XR over the GT to not deal with bullshit and still be able to tailor your own damn experience, I have, I feel it's better than the GT, from personal experience testing other people's boards, if you scratch out the things that need to be fixed, it's fun, it's a different experience, but I'm so much more comfortable and more suited for the XR I modded to tailor it to my riding style, abilities, and body size, than the GT probably ever will be without giving me to use my own fucking property how I want to. It is legally mine, they can't say shit, and they do it anyways, I hope FM doesn't come crashing down because I still want to be able to have my onewheel in the future, but they're literally kicking every possible supports on their company as fast as they can and they'll bring it down themselves. You're 100% right, they're full of shit. - Edit: fuck GT, canceled it straight up. Even more importantly, fuck Kyle

Keep up the great work!
amazing that despite thinking I knew about nearly every worth while gaming youtuber I find another one on a totally random video while looking at onewheels
the steaks are high here. fuck future motion
The steaks are so high
Thanks community we'll be taking this ladder with us- FM
If you want GT speed and range at lower price and none of the BMS bs, consider EUCs ☺️ (I ride both Onewheel and EUC)
holy crap, dude!! *YOUR VIDEO WAS SO WELL DONE!* how do you not have hundreds of thousands of subscribers?? your editing, cutting, framing, scene transitions (AND the point of your video) were absolutely stellar!
bravo, my kiwi friend, BRAVO!
Potential Oz GT buyer, was waiting for local release but dwelling on the return-to-FM for ANYTHING service related incl tyre changes I'm out. Bought a moddable 4209 XR instead with low kms that with battery, motor and VESC developments should be able keep going 10yrs+
If you want the honest truth, FUTURE MOTION WILL. NOT. DO. ANYTHING. ABOUT. THIS. ISSUE. The only solution is to boycott their products OUTRIGHT, and move on to the next one
Great video brother. I'm over here in the states and I have a GT that I bought for a great deal used with upgrades and hypercharger but I can't agree more regarding shipping even if I need to send it back which I hope I don't. We should be able to do what we want with our own products strong work keep up the fight
Wow, UA-cam hadn’t notified me that you’d uploaded ANYTHING since Rift Apart until right now, I thought you’d dropped off the face of the Earth.
I loved the subtle vfx at 3:52!
Also since I got the
I know a thing or two about batteries and cells and balancing, but you explained it amazingly well.
I think you just leveled up bro. Well done
Thumbs up for you caring more about sharing this honesty than for monetizing this video.
Acceptance of small electric vehicles has to come from society as a whole which sadly has been painfully slow due to our current risk averse, unreasonable liability victim blaming culture (with a good dose of clickbait emotive media spin stories) which is trying to keep us safe by not letting us do anything new at all.
he should of been wearing a helmet. he gots to own that. this isn't victim blaming, this is extreme ownership.
Damn, I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t really have much else to add to this comment, other than I totally agree, although I think that how much these things are societally accepted fluctuates greatly depending on where you live. Not even just country to country, but even to the level of city by city (or state by state in the US)
Wearing safety gear is a must. Falling off is going to happen without any issues with board
At the very least a helmet
Super sorry to hear about this.
lower you lows and raise your high frequencies like 5db and you will sound way clearer and cut through that choice of music. Otherwise thank you for standing against that issue!
Future Motion... What the fuck? HAHAAHHA I loved it. Great video.
Bro I feel your pain. Sucks to be on the end of a long import chain in the middle of nowhere.
That's why Kiwi and Aussies are bloody good at making and fixing stuff. If it all fails go find some mechanical and
electrical engineering uni students and give them a crap load of beer and chips and say "help me fix this bro !"
Totally right like I got to send my pint back bc the Bluetooth device is messed up dealing 80 bucks to send it out then whatever it’s gonna cost to get the Bluetooth device smfh
Been thinking seriously on buying a board but now I am definitely not. Right to repair because I own it. Why would a company make it more difficult unless it's about their profit which they will get none from me
I’ve always wanted to get one of those boards but I’ll be staying away from FM
If you're looking at getting a onewheel the older models such as the plus and the XR are still fantastic devices, and since they lack many of the hardware and firmware lockouts that the newer models have, they can be supported by the third party independent repairers network called Stoke Life Service or even by you, the user if you know what you're doing. (Future motion kind of shot themselves in the foot here, because these models are very robust and easy to repair)
Outside of future motion, It's kind of slim pickings for one wheel skateboards. There's Trotter which is a chinese-based company which makes a very similar product, The Magwheel. And then there's VESC which is an open sourced balance acceleration controller which would allow you to build a DIY onewheel.
@@mechwar31 great explanations. I’ll have to look into this. Hopefully the boards aren’t very expensive because a lot of things seem to be rising in price
2:05 "intermittent issues are the f****** worst". VERY TRUE WORDS!!
Oh hell yeah. Love it! Can you imagine if the Companies in the RC industry (I.e. Traxxas) were to pull this crap?
If future motion keeps this up, I hope they go out of business!!!
my understanding is that fm was started with a kickstarter so it was started by the people but obviously they realised they had summink good and decided to just fuck us over
Simply put (well not quit) its time for serious competition (like you know, different motorcycle and EUC and ESK8 manufactures).
The BMS lockout could very well be required by their liability insurance. These things are a personal injury lawyer's dream, even without the potential (but very real) battery safety issues.
When I bought my XR from FM it cost just under $500 to import it into Canada. Definitely never want to ship it back for repairs. No idea how that would work.
The worst part is the Kyle the inventor of the onewheel is Canadian. Can't even have a repair center in Canada for your own ppl. Slap in the face.
@@quangyung6751 kinda funny since their whole marketing gimmick is "sick dude Santa Cruz designed by Stoney surfers stokedddd". Santa Cruz thinks their shiz don't stank but Hawaii and San Diego are both much doper places with chiller less communist minded people anyways
Gotta say, of all the places I was expecting to ever use what I learned from physics E&M, it wasn't this channel. Boarding is far outside my area of expertise or interest, but I was able to get the gist of the issue from this video. Hope things turn out well for you and others who are having these problems.
As much as I wanted to try out the GT I actually talked my cousin out of buying it because it would have been his first wheel experience and I feel DOA or ghosting would have ruined it for him. Also lack of customization and the whole kill switch thing is pretty shitty.. #FFM
Killed my friends desire to own a one wheel, his gt ghosted on him 2nd day. I own 2 xrs.. love em
UPDATE: my cousin ended up getting the GT anyway and it ghosted on him after 10 miles. It’s all sorts of messed up now.. but on a positive note - my EUC is getting delivered soon! #FFM
Funny that the UA-cam put a onewheel advertisement with this video.
thank you for covering this! i'm hoping getting people talking about it outside of the typical OW communities really helps
Thanks man just canceled my GT
sounds like laptop manufacturers, they do the same shady shit
thank you for making this video for people like me with no voice but pitch forks in hand.
I guess it’s a good thing I got my XR a month before the GT was announced.
3:12 i cant believe im back in electrician night class and matt is the tutor wow
Couldn’t agree more FM need to find a better repair policy solution, maybe they could start by franchising out OW repair shops around the world.
One wheels are however fun in their own way and much more transportable however we cover lots of paved trails including normal roads during out rides.
Just bought a Super73 E-bike instead of a OneWheel so damn glad I wated!!! We will see what the future hold for OneWheel
Thank you for making this video! FM needs to hear our dissatisfaction and address it. They have an amazing product with so much potential.
make an update with them acknowledging the issues and rolling out replacements
Good for you for speaking your mind, I agree with everything you said
The editing and cinematography just keeps on getting better...
I’m nervous about getting mine Friday.
I'd really like to get a GT, but between the price and anti-consumer practices of FM, it does make me want to pick up a used XR that's already a CBXR or one with a compatible firmware. VESC would be cool, but feel like it may be too technical for me unless I wanted to spend tons of time diving into it.
bro I've had issues too I have videos and some they worked out with me to take down ,,,,I love Onewheel but the FM needs to get alot better , speak on it brother
dont forget quality issues/design flaws where balance wires are severed in time making the board a fire bomb.
The company that wired XT 60s backwards. They want to talk about safety?
Well said. I've talked my friend out of buying a GT and tell all the interested strangers to lookup the current videos before making a purchase.
Great video. Love my Pint as well but FM is unfortunately disappointing. Have had to send my board in for repair twice.
Companies are going towards to don't repair unless it's us. Show me the $$$ When companies have complete proprietary I usually stay away. DIY repair are lagging n being prevented by many corp.
Perfect video. I hope something will change
This is the 4th time the YT algorithm puts this video in front of me and the thumbnail kills me every time 😂😂😅 Lol
Excellent point of view! And for that reason I would not buy there product now after hearing about all the issues even though I am only 1 hour from their location. Its Unfortunate because love the concept but will stick to my estate boards
Drive to repair center. Take owners vehicle with tow truck(s)... Give back after redesign and recall of all "defective" devices on market. Easy fix. 👍
5:26 "I'm dumb as hell! Lol you can tell he's of genius level. Excellent vid!!!!
An Aussie here, and everything said is 100% spot on. The more people bringing FM's shady business practices to the attention of the masses the better. I love my Pint, and was also super excited to get my hands on the GT. Now I really don't know what to do. I just want to be able to repair my own damn devices.
#FuckFutureMotion!
Don’t have a 1wheel and won’t ever get one. fm sounds like d-bags…….
But your video was very well made and interesting to watch.
Keep going I bet you could hit some serious numbers on here!
Take care bro!
Appreciate this
Can't you just connect an external power supply in parallel before you start the battery swap?
-
Edit: fuck GT, canceled it straight up. Even more importantly, fuck Kyle
yep thaty is what i did, and when FM goes out of business, i could not care less ... if you have a GT and they kil lthemselfs you simply fuckeed.
Buy Trotter One Wheel. They are not bricked, cheaper, plenty of parts available and faster.
Right to Repair for All!
hmm um the company that supples batteries for future motion is selling a computer chip, that will make it so you can replace the battery and have the onewheel still work, you have to install the chip first tho. also i am not sure if can buy them for long tho, future motion is trying to suing them.
Was about to buy one, won't Touch it now. Like subscribed, please let us know if something changes, this is the closest thing were got to a hoverboard for now.
Finally got my Gt yesterday. I shipped it back today. Opened it snd charged it up to 100. Ride for 20 min then shut it off. It wouldn’t turn back on this morning. Cust rep told me it would be a really fast turn around. Why the fuck wouldn’t they test it before they sent it if it’s that easy. Honestly worried about this company just closing up shop due to all these issues
Brilliant, thank you, let’s keep up the pressure.
Great information. I honestly hope FM sees this video as I love my boards but refuse to buy my new GT’s until the company resolves its loyal customers grievances.
Love my GT. Thank you Future Motion...you guys are the best!
I love mine too works perfect no problems on Mile 100 this video is Blah blah blah LOL
If you love it, then you should want them to support repairability so the company can succeed. Right now the company is known primarily for being anti-consumer and that's the reputation. Apple might have enough power to get away with this kind of stuff, this company does not have the power to get away with it in the long term
You know there’s this thing I’ve heard about that has TWO wheels and UNLIMITED range you could switch too;)
After watching numerous opinions on the current state of the GT, I'm sticking with my XR.
