    Here's my thing. Trade Schools are not for dummies. College is cool & all but in 2021 getting a college degree isn't as relevant like it was back in these days. Plumbers, carpenters, roofers, brick layers, truck drivers, electricians, painters, construction, etc... will always be necessary in any society. Many of which comes with high paying salaries.

    • @darristhomas5602

      We also need to think about how to retrain people as they age. And we shouldn’t be promoting vocational education at the expense of general education. Expanding the number of four-year college graduates also deserves to be a national priority. They continue to fare much better in the job market than people who have not had the benefit of a broad, flexible education.
      “The largest problem of skills in the U.S. today isn’t a shortage of young workers with specific competencies,” Eric Hanushek, one of the researchers and a Stanford professor, wrote in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed. “Instead it is a need for more general cognitive skills that give workers the ability to adapt to new circumstances and new jobs.”
      Vocational education, done right, helps workers find jobs when they are young. But as they age - and job requirements change - workers are often not well prepared for the changes, according to the study, published in The Journal of Human Resources. Rather than retraining workers, many companies decide to let them go and hire other workers.
      Most strikingly, the research found that people who received a broad, general education earned more over their lifetimes than otherwise similar people (that is, with similar test scores and years of schooling) who had attended vocational programs. Notably, the vocational graduates in most countries were more likely to be unemployed while older.

    • @timbrown5576
      @timbrown5576 3 роки тому +1

      @@darristhomas5602 In many trade professions, employees attend seminars to update their skills and many jobs have trainings for their employees on the use of new equipment and technology. When you work in a profession for many years, it is not that hard to adapt to new technology and skills. As for them being unemployed as they get older, in many trades, you could start your own business and actually make more money.

    This is the exact argument in the Breakfast Club. Brian "Without Trigonometry there'd be no electricity". Bender's reply "without lamps, there would be no light". Each has benefits. Sure trade schools can give you the tools to a great job, but if you pick the right major, like Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Finance, Tax, you will far out exceed the salary of a plumber. Don't get me wrong, a plumber will never go bankrupt in every type of economic conditions, but some people have a bent for certain things. My dad is a born carpenter and mason, but I am not, so, I picked electrical and computer engineering.

    You know what's crazy....? Not attending trade school. But what's crazy is spending 4 years in college. Just to cause serious debt. Nowadays, most students that attend college end up not landing a career in what they studied ....now that's crazy !

    I know j.j character was written to be foolish but if you take the laughs away from what he’s saying he’s listening to Michael and pretty much translating what Michael is saying for his own understanding while also saying he’s hungry. Sleeping bag in the bathtub is the closest you would get to a guest bedroom in they house

    I'm sorry but this episode made it seem like we had never been exposed to anything. I didn't grow up in suburbia but I knew cup and saucer. There weren't any guest bedrooms in my house either, but I knew that 5-3=2.

      @@JAWrightonline Actually, this woman (I am female) who grew up in the hood listens to all kinds of music, reads all kinds of books, and watches a variety of tv shows. I've always had an open mind about these things. If that makes me "enwhitened," then color me white.
      Bottom line: in my home, we did have a full set of dishes so I knew cup and saucer. We never had any extra bedrooms for guests, but I understood that the question being asked was about math not bedrooms. If you start out with 5 and 3 are being used, how many are left? Simple math. And you don't need to be "enwhitened" to know that.
