Hey everyone, welcome to Skyrim: Wildlander - a hardcore, immersive wabbajack for Skyrim. I wanted to go over a couple of things about this playthrough really quick. 1. Please feel free to backseat game in terms of giving me tips, tricks, and information about gameplay and things that I may not be familiar with if you have played this mod list extensively. I'm still very new to it and I have a lot to learn (especially concerning spell research, enchanting, etc.). 2. Same goes for lore - it's been over 10 years since I played an Elder Scrolls game, and to be honest, I was a lot younger when I played those games and didn't really read through a lot of the books to get the lore. I'll be reading a lot of the more important books in this to get the history and background of TES. 3. I hope to be able to release 4-5 of these videos per week. Maybe more. I know a lot of people still want Fallout 4 Frost videos, so I'll try to get a few of those out per week as well, but I have to say - I'm really in love with Wildlander right now. In any case, I'm hoping to return to doing daily videos released at 9 AM EST. 4.
this not hardcore 0:19 you wouldnt be in that area at low level, you would freeze ur butt off. 1:30 you dont even have cloak, a torch to be in that area
I literally laughed out loud when the first place you managed to stumble into whilst talking about the mods not being too difficult was The Bloodlet Throne
The carry weight changes is understandable and the reasoning is very straightforward and sound. I agree with the reasoning you have used and support it.
almost your entire keyboard is dedicated to hotkeys. press f11 to bring up an overlay showing all the hotkeys. this will make crafting loads easier as you can break down armor and initiate crafting, campfires, baths, refilling waterskin, a whole plethora of things with the touch of a button and no menu.
I started to play Skyrim again after many years of not playing. I am glad that modding has come so far that there are easy to install mod packs. The Wildlander mod pack has a lot of mods that I enjoyed playing with back in the day but with a fresh start.
Stealth archer is not that great in Requiem, although I did have success in my last wildlander permadeath playthrough. You pretty much can't deal with draugr.
@@F1reFireBallyea even with silvered arrows draugr just tank arrows, which makes sense since they've got nothing to really damage with puncture wounds. Silver sword or magic is really the only answer I found years ago.
Actually the most OP thing in Wildlander is probably summoning. Summoning Fire Atronach's from stealth will let you clear huge amounts of the early game in a way that make stealth archer look like hard work.
@@gloaming4247 magical damage is pretty much the best in general in requiem, but since you can very quickly run out of magicka early on, it makes being a blaster mage challenging to progress. Summoning completely bypasses that as your summon has their own powers to call on AND takes less damage from mundane sources. It really is easy mode.
This seems really cool! I haven't played Skyrim in forever, because other games happened, but this might (might) be the thing that brings me back in. Thanks for showing it off, bud.
you have a bag of holding. stopping every 5 minutes to shuffle pixels in a GUI (and then edit out the tedium) to adhere to some arbitrary sandbox rule would be nonsensical, and you've made the refreshingly sane decision for this kind of run. huge thank you. similar thoughts on time-imposed "realisms". I don't mind time-gated processing systems when you can puzzle around them with parallelization (i.e. Gregtech / Factorio / etc) but its just a waste of time that disrupts flow in a game not designed for it.
Summed it up perfectly. I love Satisfactory which is very much about maximizing production and time gating things but that game is ALL about that. It's very well designed. Just being locked in place for 30 seconds (total, over like 3-4 different load screens) so I can process a single deer, just isn't fun.
Totally agree, I’ve been playing Wildlander for a while now and have considered just giving myself like 999 carry weight but felt like it might be cheating and would feel guilty but Wanderer made some really good points as to why inventory management isn’t fun and we shouldn’t feel bad for removing it, I’ll be doing myself the favor of increasing my carry weight next time I play 😂
I love Skyrim. Maybe more than Fallout 4 to be honest. However, I haven't been able to find a hardcore survival sim mod setup for Skyrim that resembles something close to Horizon/Frost. Until now.
Your pronounciation of cuirass is correct, as far as I'm aware. I support your decision concerning carry weight. It's a way of balancing gameplay vs content creation. I haven't played Skyrim in years, and this (as well as Enshrouded) is tempting me to start a new playthrough.
Welcome back good sir! I have yet to do a playthrough of Skyrim, but love watching it as much as Fallout. Continue doing what you love. The content is always better when YOU are having fun!
Yes! I’ve been a long time fan of yours and have watched almost all of your FROST play throughs and have always hoped you do something for Skyrim someday. It’s been a couple years now but I’m so glad you finally have, can’t wait to binge this series on my lunch breaks at work 😊
I've really enjoyed Wandy's Fallout videos for some time. As an experienced Elder Scrolls player who only bought Fallout 4 when it was released to fill in the 3-4 years before TES 6 was released, (not very good at prediction though) I am pumped to see where this series goes.
Looks like time to return to skyrim... looks like an excellent mod list... took me an afternoon to download it and once I figured out that you need to be on an older version of Skyrim all loaded perfectly... and a quick test of the game work perfectly and thank you for letting us know about the modpack... this is going to be an excellent time... and also looking forward to your play through...
nah it aint that hard, up to adept locks are just gated behind the first perk. Advance the tree, and it becomes easier to pick locks and you can pick more difficult locks. Also with a craftman perk you can make infinite lockpicks on a forge and iron is cheap af. There are other methods to break locks outside lockpick skill, but this is how this specific skill tree works.
Oh wow Wildlander! Yeah I agree that this modpack is really Skyrim at it's peak. They made it so easy to put together too. I don't think I can play Skyrim any other way now. It's not perfect, at least not when I played it but still. Not a fan of some of the HP regaining enemies but other than that I had loved it. And it looks beautiful too, they really got the modded skyrim look down perfectly, no other modpack looks as good IMO.
What you explained on the issue with Hunterborn is exactly why we're starting to see these overhaul modpacks moving to Simple Hunting Overhaul. Accomplishes the same thing in a much more gameplay friendly and quicker way.
Nice! Yeah the menu / wait for load spam is just... ugh. Even if there was a 1 button "harvest all" with a single quick load screen I think that would be an improvement, but having to do like 5 separate load screens for each phase is awful in implementation. I ran around doing some testing before this playthrough and had like 20 carcasses saved up on my horse. Took me over an hour to process them IRL, just spamming menus waiting for loading to be done as time changed. Not difficult, just annoying and not fun.
Just dropping by to let you know I love this new series. And about the customizations like the carry weight: What matters mote than anything else, by quite a large margin, is that you enjoy yourself. Because no matter what you come to decide, people are gonna bitch about it, this is the internet after all. ;) I'm a huge fan of Horizon myself and these Skyrim overhauls are the only thing that gets close to that experience for me. So i think you're gonna have tons of fun with this. Have fun!
It's official, Wandy is thoroughly done with the complainers' BS, and is pulling no punches with this series! Very few survival mods actually scratch my survival mod itch, so this is an absolute insta-click for me
Hey Wanderer! Haven't commented in a long time, but wanted to say I'm glad to see this series! Once I get caught up, I will probably end up commenting on lore, as I am a huge ES nerd lol
I'm slowly but surely learning it all. I remember some things vaguely but even though I played through Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim, I didn't pay a ton of attention to lore. Since people enjoy having me read the books, it's forcing me to take the time to get more information. I do enjoy it, it's just... I'd rather be swinging my hammer lol.
That chest system is absolutely horrible Wandy, good call not using it. it looks like it would be a lot of editing on your side or boring video on our side.
I like the idea of having linked storage. If I was playing without having to worry about editing, I'd set up multiple bases like the one I have at Cracked Tusk Keep, and just keep a single chest in each, and then I'd make the rule that I had to bring my loot back to such a base and deposit it there - pretty much identical to how settlements work in Fallout 4, when they're linked together with supply lines. IDK, maybe make a rule that it has to be a keep or a fort or some fairly large enemy encampment with crafting benches, that I need to clear out in order to access it and use it as a "base". Thing is, I could always load my character up with a ridiculous amount of stuff, hop on my horse, and my horse would run at full speed still. IDK, getting it to be truly immersive and balanced would require a lot of additional mods and tweaking, and I'm not convinced that going that route is any better than just having a magical bag of holding to eliminate inventory management. I don't find inventory juggling fun, nor do 99% of my viewers.
I just stumbled upon this playthough today. Im so burnt out on Skyrim and watching people play it. But this rp has intrigued me. The Wanderer reminds me of Skyrim RPers I watched years ago. The channel was called Couch Warrior tv.(Idk what happened to them.) I have subbed and plan to see how this rp goes.
Totally support your decision on reducing tedious inventory management in favour of content. A big fan of your Frost playthroughs, the relentless inventory management in Horizons was what stopped me watching those playthroughs.
Wildlander is fantastic. I was always a big fan of Requiem + Live Another Life and Wildlander has a good chunk of those plus a million other things. It would make for terrible streaming but I love doing stuff like just living as a scrub in a ruin for a few ingame years, living off the land with scrimshaw, researching magic and preying on whoever wanders by. I've been holding off on another playthrough until they reincorporate the Undeath mod that lets you become a Lich.
fyi, there is a craftable barrel, its much easier to place than the chest as it has a much smaller footprint. Otherwise it functions exactly the same as the chest. Hands down the better option.
I'm a French speaker and we would say that Cuirass is pronounced 'queer-ass', and as it is a French word originally that is how i pronounce it. But it's your video you do what suits you, like your magical bag of holding which is cool by me, better than watching you constantly shuffling around around a screen..
I had to search it myself, because most of the times I hear it from English and it's pronounced "cure-ess" but it turns out your pronunciation is the correct one in French.
Nice a new series. I would love less time spend on inventory limits due to carryweight. I tend to give myself a rather large inventory all the time since that just annoys me.
Why does anyone have a hard time believing dragons might exist in a world where dark elves and kitty cat people are throwing fireballs and lightning bolts from their hands.
To be fair, if someone started talking about how a megalodon ate their neighbors family, you'd probably think them a loon, regardless of our ability to split an atom to create bombs capable of destroying cities.
elder scrolls lore states that dragons have been gone for 1000s of years so imagine never seeing something suddenly coming back most people wouldn't believe it
That's how I planned to use them, but then I got a home , so now I just store things in an appropriate chest next to it's crafting station. Breezehome is just too good. All those merchants, every crafting station, and cozy as hell.
Console command that i Googled. I don't remember it, but it's permanent. Just don't forget to occasionally offload stuff. Too much stuff on your character can cause the game to lag and crash.
i've never played skyrim, so this should be a fun watch -- looking forward to it! i'm coming in late (life, don'tcha know), but i'll get caught up. much love, many thanks for sharing.
What a great success Starfield turned out to be,...with content creators having to revisit Fallout 4 and Skyrim in order to have fun and make good Lets Plays. Good job Emil & Todd, ya numpties.
I would love to see Wildlander implement 3Tweaks one day so you can pick which skills level because some skills like speech, i do not want to level at all and Wildlander has a level ceiling of 81. You also do not get any XP from killing mud crabs
That's my plan. Episode 2 is basically the "how crafting works" episode as I get to a main town and learn about the process of salvaging, crafting, etc. Even then, I'm not going to be showing the 10 minutes I spend deciding which potions to craft for maximum profit - that gets cut obviously.
I have always wanted to watch you play Requiem, the best version of Skyrim. Requiem is perfect for you and your gaming style, and it is one of the best games anybody can play. - I completely agree with your decision to eliminate the tedious parts of Requiem, such as carry weight nonsense. This is dreadful for UA-cam viewers to watch. A typical Requiem playthrough will take months to do, and there is no reason to drag that out with pointless editing in order to make the videos less boring. Focusing on the fun parts of the game is the way to go. - I recommend picking up everything. Almost every item is useful or can be recycled into something valuable. - I hope that you enjoy your playthrough.
Oh how I envy you for stumbling onto Pinewatch having no idea what it is... I would've loved to get in there for the first time with this modpack instead of the unadulterated tedium of vanilla Thieves Guild questing
How does VR playthroughs to revitalize fallot 4 sound to you Wandy? I can assists you in getting fallout vr running perfectly, jump the hurdles that need to be jumped like the minumum required mods etc. I've been doing some ultra hardcore runs in VR and it's amazing. Power armors cannot be entered by the player, humans have a more sensible HP range (70-300 instead of 70-1400), levelling does not add HP, etc. The simple joy of being able to frisbee throw landmines, and actual proper cover shooting that is provided by playing VR. Actually being there and experiencing Nick as a real android. It's something else. Like a new game.
My thoughts on VR are that if I do VR, I want to do it all the way, meaning I want to be able to walk around in game, with my own body. For that I'd need a very complex VR setup - VR omnidirectional treadmill rig, headset, etc. It would be a $2k-3k investment for that stuff most likely, and it would be outdated in few years at best. I just can't justify that kind of investment right now.
@TheWandererPlays probably closer to $10k tbh if your going pcvr route. $1k+ for a decent headset kit, $1-2k for the treadmill, whatever your pc costs and whatever accessories youd need to make tidier (cable holders / wireless conversion, body trackers) i 100% agree with your decision to hold off, coming from someone with 2 vr setups (1 for me and 1 for my son)
WARNING! During scripted segments where the game takes away your items, the game will freeze if you have too many items in your inventory. It is a known bug. So make sure to regularly empty your inventory into chests.
Personally when playing, I limit the chests to campsites. Its a step down from carrying a bag of holding everywhere, so I might set up camp outside a ruin, then go explore the ruin having to manage my carry weight while in the dungeon, but a QoL improvement when traveling back to the city. I understand the choice from a youtuber perspective, inventory management is not top tier content 😄
It's been a very long time since watching your Frost series days. It's refreshing to see you in a Skyrim survival world. Just curious, have you tried playing SCUM? Anyway, have fun in Skyrim.
As someone who finds 100% 1st person roleplay series kinda cringe (for lack of a better term, please dont take that as an slight), thank you for not doing that for this series. This style where you clearly have a character your playing but still have normal commentary is the prefect inbetween your normal stuff and the new stuff youre trying.
I see you like more having realistic survival mechanics with your mod packs, but as i've really only seen your Frost series (and now starting this), do you like more dedicated survival games? If so, I highly recommend you look into Vintage Story. It has a pretty dedicated modding community, and and its mechanics are the perfect balance of realism and immersion. The only issue I can see is that you mention not liking tedium a lot, and the game can get a little annoying with its inventory management. But every other mechanic can be tweaked in-game if you aren't a fan of the mechanic (like how fast you get hungry, how long in-game days are, how many in-game days are in a month, how fast you want trees and crops to grow. I could see you making a nice series out of it; but as it's in development still, you could benefit from not immediately going into it if you do find it interesting.
I like other survival games. Loved Subnautica. Not sure how I'd feel about a game that is solely dedicated to survival mechanics, but I enjoy the immersion that I get from needing to occasionally eat/drink etc. The issue is that stuff that isn't Bethesda based gets very little views typically.
biggest thing I always hated about the chest is you cannot place them in a city so you have to place it outside take all you shit slow walk into town to sell stuff very irritating

I understand the workarounds. Its Skyrim theres always gonna be workarounds to outdated mechanics that are also major time sinks.
Why does anyone have a hard time believing dragons might exist in a world where dark elves and kitty cat people are throwing fireballs and lightning bolts from their hands.
To be fair, if someone started talking about how a megalodon ate their neighbors family, you'd probably think them a loon, regardless of our ability to split an atom to create bombs capable of destroying cities.
elder scrolls lore states that dragons have been gone for 1000s of years so imagine never seeing something suddenly coming back most people wouldn't believe it
Less the fact that they exist since they know that they used to, is more the surprise factor of the fact that they are returning after eras past
Because if that's the norm then it's normal. Like I'm sure people from skyrim would think the same thing about us with our advanced technology.
definitely worth the like.
I sort of view the chests as a way to keep your inventory uncluttered yet keep everything on you so I sort of like the chests.
That's how I planned to use them, but then I got a home , so now I just store things in an appropriate chest next to it's crafting station. Breezehome is just too good. All those merchants, every crafting station, and cozy as hell.
I was just thinking about starting up Skyrim again :D
so big question, how did you customice the caryr weight limit? just askign for a friend.
Console command that i Googled. I don't remember it, but it's permanent. Just don't forget to occasionally offload stuff. Too much stuff on your character can cause the game to lag and crash.
looks like a cool and slim modlist !
i've never played skyrim, so this should be a fun watch -- looking forward to it!
i'm coming in late (life, don'tcha know), but i'll get caught up. much love, many thanks for sharing.
I've never seen anyone lockpick like that lol
Have you played the game Gothic? The best inventory in the world. You just loot everything, no carrying capacity. And no junk! :D
I have heard of Gothic many times and if that remake ever gets made, I'll definitely play it.
Wait, this modpack is out?
I am fine with the unlimited inventory. It is not fun to watch so don't worry about it! It isn't fun to mess with in game either.
It's ok to show all the tedious and time consuming things once. How to craft, how to chest, how to harvest. Tenth, fiftieth time is annoying, yes
That's my plan. Episode 2 is basically the "how crafting works" episode as I get to a main town and learn about the process of salvaging, crafting, etc. Even then, I'm not going to be showing the 10 minutes I spend deciding which potions to craft for maximum profit - that gets cut obviously.
I'm considering this modlist or zenithars forge, I really like zf, but still looking into wildlander
That camps perfect fine. Til you try and open the chest.
Lets gooo, i love this mod pack
Very cool, I'm here for it.
Mornin Everyone!
post the load order!
"Hardcore should not equal pain and tedium"
Correct, however I am a masochist, and I like it when it fucking sucks
It's been a very long time since watching your Frost series days. It's refreshing to see you in a Skyrim survival world. Just curious, have you tried playing SCUM? Anyway, have fun in Skyrim.
im excited for this!
What's up wandy hope everything is going well for you
the cure ass didnt bother me until it was pointed out lol
I wish it was available for xbox
What mod are you using for the carry weight?
Just google a console command for it.
Looking forward to this
biggest thing I always hated about the chest is you cannot place them in a city so you have to place it outside take all you shit slow walk into town to sell stuff very irritating
Is it a permadeath run?
I’m surprised you like Skyrim more than fallout 4. I like it too but fallout is always my love
