After seeing this review i went out and bought this compressor. It does exactly what i was looking for, highlighted in this video: it is a transparent compressor. TC, go and buy this dude a lunch!
Same experience! TC, get this man a drink!
For 50 antelopes, I really like this compressor.
Hooray! Someone finally explained compressors in a way that makes perfect sense!
Thank you for the in depth review of this pedal. I've had one for months and while I was able to set it up to do what I wanted, I never really understood how to do it properly. This was a massive help. Easily the best video I've ever watched concerning a compressor pedal, even better that it covers the exact one I have.
Best explanation of compression I’ve seen. Thanks Henning
I really like this series. It would be nice to have a supplementary session discussing how to order these pedals for best effect.
There's a thousand of those already. The series is good as it is, what I would like to see is some diffrent boards of diffrent styles using these pedals.
Thank you for taking the time to cover and explain this series. Really appreciate the in-depth explanations and effort you put into this.
TC pedals are amazing god. i watched several yesterday. each and every pedal is amazing .
Love how, even with the attack all down it didn't take away the Color of the sound.
tremendous pedal! I just bought it and compared it to my other compressors (MXR, boss cs3 and boss limiter enhancer) and I don't want to overdo it but it is on the same level as the MXR. good compression, perfect for bass, I recommend it!
I'm glad you say it's perfect for bass. I just oredered one and was hoping it would not cut the lows from my bass (I bought it for my 6-strings.)
@@Ndlanding and does it work for you on a Bass?
@@SulatronRecords I'm afraid to say I haven't used it on my bass yet. However, it's almost always turned on when I play my Strat, and it's great. I haven't had my bass plugged in for ages (but I have bought another pedal for it -- the Behringer BEQ700 Bass Graphic Equalizer. Must actually try the two pedals before I die.
I just got one of these for bass! i actually a/b'd it next to a dynacomp and a ego compressor and this one was the best hands down, dynacomp was cool at lower settings but extremely noticable squash at higher settings, this one isnt really transparent either but it feels really nice! especially at higher sustain settings with the attack rolled down it starts to overdrive the pedal i noticed, which i absolutely love, might have to get another one and stack them just to see what happens....
Finally. I am about to buy a compressor any day now, and it might be the tc electronic (I really like their pedals) hyper gravity. With this series coming up I waited to see what Henning has to say... so later today, I guess I know which pedal to decide on.
great job man! i agree, if a pedal makes you wanna play and create new ideas. Its a pedal to have..
I agree! I had considered that thought before, but now hearing someone with his knowledge and experience say it I feel more comfortable with my thoughts on the matter.
I'm updating my .txt list of interesting compression pedals with the link of this video. It may be also interesting as a crystal clear clean booster (specially for those who make two gain routes on the pedalboard, then this would be good as a clean booster on the clean side of gain), so, it's practically a two in one pedal (tweaking the knobs).
few comments. bucks? is that where it came from!? as an american i'd rather just call it paper. I really appreciate your demeanor throughout the entire video. I've stumbled across your reviews and each one has the same same sentiment. the way you present your ideas and your natural speech pattern is fun to follow along with. Super informative and humble at the same time, like all the good teachers I've come across. Seeing you figure out that flow real time was awesome. We've all been there, "I know thats not what i want, where is it dammit!?" Thank you for the in depth on a budget pedal and that spot on visual explaining the concept of thresholds. It finally clicked. I'll definitely be passing it along. Cheers.
Thank you Henning! Many of us would be idiots staggering in the dark without your unbiased reviews however, I would like you to get the screwdrivers out sometime and take a gander of the internals.
Nah. That's for DIY enthusiasts. Go check out freestompboxes.org, or diystompboxes.com.
Henning cannot into electronics, so I really don't think he'd have valuable input without some time-costly training.
He can, however, into sound, and so it makes sense to stick with that.
Thanks that was a good explination and appreciated the recommended settings
is it all over?( all 13 tc pedals). oh man, this has been a morning ritual for me.
That guitar is absolutely gorgeous dude!
Nice job again Henning on this TC "tank" series.
Honestly, it really seems the overall verdict for all of these pedals is: pretty much no brainer good, basic, competent stuff for each pedal type at the bargain price point.
Fully recovered yet? :)
And any thoughts on that "Kiana's First Pedal Board" series? Not just because I suggested it, but honestly, I think it would be terrific and very useful to your fan base.
Also, Henning, have you considered perhaps some kind of EytschPi42 t-shirt merch to help out like Patreon? Again, I think with the right designs, you probably can make some money for the channel. After all, everyone needs more Tshirts... ;)
As for basic compressor functions, best explanation of a real-world example I ever heard was from Joe Satriani. Example: clean, tapping sections in songs. Without a compressor, the thicker, lower strings will ring far louder than the 3 highest strings. With a compressor, one can more effectively equalize the volume level so all tapped notes ring have approximately the same volume.
cheers!
That's some nice editing around 12:00.
thanks henning because of you i bought this!
also Behringer pedals are wonderful
In America they did all there trading wearing buck skin loin cloths, whereas in Europa they actually wore live squids to cover their bits, hence the term 'quid'
Good review, as always! Just wanted to know which is the better compressor? This, the Mooer Yellow Comp or the Joyo Pipebomb? Thanks!
Always watching friends :P love your videos men!
That bridge pickup looks more like a RIC high gain pup, like in my RIC 330. Sounds great!
Dude explained Compressor the best on the internet. Period.
Thanx for the info, very usefull. Also thanx for the review of the Harley Benton goldtop p90. The thing had some issues, but supprises me Evert time!
YAY!!! watching now! Been waiting for this!! Happy Sunday bro!!
Very useful. Thank you.
Good pedal and on my list to get.
Please Henning make a vid of a pedalboard only composed by those TC pedals to know how it would sound! You know, for no reason but fun :) thank you for your cool vids!
Do you have matching pants for other guitars? ;)
He will get it from you!!!!
@@ingofischer8229 Eh?
Great Review! Greetings from brasil
The question is: This one or Joyo's Dynamic compressor?
PS. 8:51 I wonder how that scratching would sound through compressor.
Yeah it sounds overall louder. I'm not sure, but I don't think I can hear the transients getting louder, which is a good louder when talking compressors. I mean that's usually what you want, if you're trying to get a signal sounding fuller, when using a compressor. Overdrives will do something similar. Else try pull back the level a bit and A/B.
Guten Morgen, Henning. I've been watching your vids for a few months now. Good info and fun to watch.
Thanks for the explanation of compression. Very clear.
A bit off topic - I'm looking for a first bass for home/recording use: Which Harley Benton would you recommend?
Or anybody else out there? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
I would go with a Jazz Bass... 4 String....
how about this one?
www.thomann.de/de/harley_benton_jb_75sb_mn_vintage_series.htm
Nice. Vielen dank for the swift reply...I was liking the more natural colour of the JB-75NA. Is there much difference?
no, just the color
Brilliant! Thanks very much. Keep up the good work! Your English is excellent by the way. Cheers.
THANKS! GOOD VIDEO!
Best review ever!
Thanks for a terrific video! You provided a very clear explanation of how compression works.
I’ve got a question about this pedal that has confused me. Around 11:00 in the video you say that the Sustain knob changes the threshold. How do you know it is changing threshold and not the compression ratio?
The Quick Start sheet for the Forcefield says the Sustain knob changes the amount of compression. To me, this implies it changes the compression ratio. But the specification sheet on the TC website says the “maximum ratio” is 1.667361111, which is not large (but sure has a lot of significant digits!). In order to increase the amount of compression, something else must be changing This implies to me that Sustain is affecting threshold and not compression. Does this logic make sense? Do you have any other information or actual data from measurements that support the notion that the Sustain knob is changing threshold and not the compression ratio?
if it's the bees knees that's all i need to know, sounds good to me
Killer axe!
Hi, how does it compares to your beloved Diamond Compressor, TC Hypergravity, Mooer yellow comp ? Good work though ! 👍🏻
Diamond and Yellow Comp have more high end... better for cleans because you can add treble. Hyper Gravity is digital... it is also Multiband... it can be a million different things.
My favorite is the Diamond Comp!
Diamond is great....for around 220 quid, so ya!! This thing is 50 inc delivery, ....so dont expect to be amazed!! But look at it this way, if you have one of these, an old eq pedal and a great sounding guitar, you'll get the job done.
seems a nOice choice for the bargain...but i was wondering if the boss cs3 is a better bang for the buck...given it has tone control (for some darker sounds).
has anyone got any suggestions?which one can give more compression on max?
i cant comment on the cs3 because the one my drummer has is broken sadly, but i have been trying to use a eqd warden before I got a forcefield and the forcefield wins for me, has a faster attack and I can tell when its switched on without looking at it lol.
the warden is honestly too transparent to the point I had an extremely hard time hearing what it was doing to the sound until I added too much, but with the forcefield within minutes I had a usable sound, and a bonus perk is that at extreme settings it starts to overdrive the pedal! and it was 5x cheaper than the eqd!! honestly glad the warden isnt mine i'd be pissed lmaooo
1:55 ... watching Friends I see... perhaps this instalment should have been called "The one with the compressor" ...
How does this pedal compare to a Boss CS-3? I will be using it to fatten up and had sustain for slide play.
i was wondering the same thing....i've played through an old cs3 and liked it,dunno how this one compares....
is it true that forcefield is an improved behringer?
As a wise man once said - loud is more good
Não falo Inglês: mas quero perguntar em português, que guitarra é essa?
It's a Nazangi Thelma in green, you can find them on the maker's shop: nazangi.de/dthelma.html
so how do I connect my compressor to my mixer? in or out?
Hi Henning.. wie geht es dir? I know this is a vid from 2016, and you probably won't read this BUT.. is the Mooer yellow comp still you're favourite compressor ? And what would happen if you combine these on a pedalboard ? Some weird stuff or could that sounds actually good ? Grüße aus Gent Belgien.
the yellow comp is great as a budget compressor. My favorite one is the Bogner Lyndhurst
@@EytschPi42 Thanks for the reply Henning ! I'll check out the Bogner. Gutes wochenende !
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Use before or after an Amp Simulator? Going straight to a mixer board. Thx
Before if your want it transparent. After if you want it noisy and digital sounding
Irre ich mich oder ist der NUT breiter als sonst in Electric guitars.
i would like to have a big nut. 2 inch around. for my huge hands.. are there fretboards with big nuts on market ?
This series of tc electronic effects are modified behringer effects
What is that slick SG in the background with the gold hardware?
Joshua Fraser it's a slick SG with a golden hardware...
About Power supply. there are barely no reviews about this. Is this true that it is better to have one PS for each of the pedals ??? what are cheap but good pS to Buy online ?? Thank you for answer..
Lajos Vas yes one per pedal or something like the voodoo lab multi power supply with true isolated outputs. The short reason answer is either of these will prevent ground loops which will prevent unnecessary hum
Whats your opinion on the Hall of fame since i see you have it
TitusArdronicus I don't really know. I played with it once and then it broke. So I never got a chance to really find out if I like it.
this, joyo pipe bomb, or mooer yellow comp??
I wonder what is sounds like with everything on full.
Not sure, but if sustain is the threshold and right is the lowest, then:
Sustain full: Everything is within the threshold and will be turned down.
Attack "full": Everything takes super long to be turned down, depending on the time.
Level full: It will be really effing loud nontheless :D
Force field vs. joyo pipe bomb?
I bought a Joyo (though second hand) and it died. I wouldn't think twice about it.
model of that guitar? some website where i can find theme?
nazangi.de
www.nazangi.de
Damn autofill😀
is it noisy?
jonathan vigneault I have the same concern. I owned a Boss compressor and it was very noisy which without a noise gate was very frustrating to use... If anyone has the answer related to this particular pedal, I would greatly appreciate hearing it.
NO ITS NOT AT ALL :)
Whats it do
Zachary B it compresses the signal. It brings the quieter sounds up and the louder sounds down
Easter Eggs?
11:53 Ross and Chandler on the tele and the Little Pink Unicorn :D
Viele hassen dich. Aber ich mag dich
For 50 illegal whale bones, this is worth it!
Can I have some of your drugs thanks
This sounds like one of the most do nothing pedals I've ever heard. Still a good video, it just convinced me not to buy.
PEBKAC.
I think you really dont understand what compression is... a good compression doesnt change the quality of your sound, it makes all the notes you play to be closer on volume, no peaks so is a must arpegio and finger picking; also gives you more sustain of course and a louder sound on clean guitars, you can use it as a "clean booster" too...
If you dont feel any big changes on the sound when you engage it is actually a good sign.
"most people don't know what a compressor pedal is" ....Really ? Where did he get that idea from ??
from most people
I like your video's haha. But I highly doubt most people don't know what a compressor does
He is right tho, I had no idea what it was.
James Brown told me.
No one in my family knows what a compressor is, except maybe the dead ones who are in Heaven, where people know everything except the endings of detective stories.
very helpful, thank you!!
How long does it last on batteries?
It takes only 5mAh so they last more than 20 h. I putted one battery on mine a month ago and still kicking.
