A lot of people blame the City of Oakland, but they weren’t the only bad actors. The current ownership of the team has to be one of the worst in history. LITERALLY a real-life version of the “Major League” movie from the 80s. And nobody talks about the local business community and their lack of stepping up. Major companies like Clorox, Pandora, Kaiser are all headquartered in Oakland, not to mention all the companies HQ’d here in the Bay. Where were they? There are so many entities that have led to this. Including MLB itself.

That stadium was ancient and had been falling apart for many years. It was the last multi use stadium bring used. It needed replacing twenty years ago but Oakland not being able to fund schools couldn't afford a decent place for the A's to play in. Then again the ballpark was in a high crime zone and nobody went to the games. How can the A's survive? In Las Vegas they will draw many more people to their games. The park will be in a much safer area and they will finally get revenue to field a team of their own instead of being a Yankee farm club because nobody wanted to play in Oakland.

Places from a distance may look worse than they really are, but all the news about crime & businesses closing down (partly because of crime?) in Oakland truly does look bad. The A's (if not Raiders too) leaving go way beyond merely the issue of politics, however. But bad governance & lousy voters sure haven't helped matters. Same with SF across the bay.

So wrong. We love that ballpark. Gregg Olson strike out so many batters. In 89 Mark McGwire , Dave Henderson and Dave Parker all strike out for Orioles to win the game. The Ravens taking the AFC title in Oakland helped to make The Ravens as a viable replacement for the Colts, and CFL Stallions. The Oakland Collisum is the home of many great ball games. Baseball is the best and Oakland s park is leftover when men had enough sense to put the park far enough back from the field, by necessity because of dual use, to not have those ghastly nets ruining the views in person, and Worse of television .
I loved the old PA announcer at Oakland so proper so deep and respectful different than Rex Barney in Baltimore but 100x better than the goofy DJ types and feminine whispers that inhabit too many parks. Well it's awful to loose a club especially to greedy jerks like Fisher, no plan. No where to go, sad to see what your "representatives" allowed. Something is wrong w our nation. We need to put Christ and family first. Or else we will get chastised. God bless yous.

I need pro sports teams to STOP using the city name as their name.
It never was Oakland's team. It is like any big business, they have no loyalty to the people of the city where they do business, only to money.
The team is not the players, it's the owners. The players are just disposable employees, the fans are a replaceable "target market".
No team should be using the name of any city, unless that city owns the team.

Dumb take. The Oakland A’s have been the armpit of baseball for a long time. If they restart things the right way in Vegas this will be a big step up for the game. This is GOOD for the game. Staying in trash Oakland in a trash stadium is what was bad for the game.

Put a retractable roof on the stadium, convert it into transitional housing as well as affordable housing. The facility has numerous kitchens, bathrooms, and private boxes - all suitable for immediate use. Ample sewer, water, and electrical infrastructure is already there. The spectator seating areas can be reconstructed into stacked housing units that are made from re-purposed shipping containers. The field can be made into a park. Tens of thousands of jobs can be created. The Build-Back-Better program created by President Biden and Kamala Harris has the money to make this a reality. Vote for Harris - let's move America forward and strengthen the Middle Class and urban core.

There are so many entities that have lead to this. Including MLB itself.

Don't blame large companies like Clorox or Kaiser for the complete demise of professional sports in Oakland. It was a combination of extremely bad leadership at Oakland city hall and bad demographics that finally did the city in.
