What a lot of people didn't realize was that Ray Parker Jr., when he did his song "Ghostbusters" was that it was basically this song with the time signature sped up and it incurred a lawsuit against him from Huey Lewis
@@johnbuck3374 yup, there was apparently a nondisclosure agreement that Huey Lewis probably had forgotten about at the time that he'd sued Ray Parker Jr. for copyright infringement
I just miss ALL REAL INSTRUMENTS AND REAL MUSICIANS!! now they use those boards and make people that can't sing sound so so and you know what they do and call it music🤦♀️
I'm so glad you guys reacted to this song. It's one of my favorites. I've always been a Huey fan and I'm sad that his health has made him quit singing. Being a San Francisco native, Huey has been around here for a long, long time.
this band sounds exactly like they do live as they do off the album. A great celebration band, where everyone is out to have a good time and where romance is in greater volume than loneliness, smiles abundant and laughs epidemic....love their shows.
Hope you enjoyed/are enjoying Huey Lewis and the News. I was a huge fan growing up in the 80s. You guys are awesome. Wish I could attend the festivities. Maybe next year and I could bring “refreshments” . 🍷
Beverly Hills Cop vibes! YES you nailed it. You're thinking of Heat Is On by Glen Frey (one of the band member The Eagles who passed away a few years back - RIP brother Glen). That is what you're hearing!!! Another song of Glen's that you'll likely recognize and has a smooth AF sax "You Belong to the City" Just a truly magnificent song to vibe to. There were a few great bands from back there that added some horns and sax in it. Huey, Tower of Power, early Chicago to name a few. Glen Frey and Hall & Oats also.
Great song and it’s funny you mentioned Ghostbusters because: When the theme song of the 1984 film Ghostbusters was released, Huey Lewis sued Ray Parker Jr. and Columbia Pictures for copyright infringement, claiming that Parker had stolen the melody from "I Want a New Drug". The three parties settled out of court. ... Parker subsequently sued Lewis for breaching confidentiality. I like both songs…classics!! P.S. Happy Birthday 🎊🎈🎁🎂🎉
Classic song. Huey Lewis was real big in the 80s. In fact he was one of the singers in the original We are the world. He had some songs featured in 80s movies too
I never got to see Huey Lewis live with his band but I did get to see Huey Lewis when he portrayed the lawyer Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago on Broadway and damn he was good!!!
I was never really a big fan of Huey, but I liked this song. It always reminds me of a friend I had back in the day, Emma! She heard the lyrics as "I wanna new truck"! Good memories!
every reference you brought up, ghostbusters, beverley hill cop, all basically within a few years of each other in the mid 80s along with this song so similar sounds
Huey was one of the first successful Christian rock acts and they paved the way for many other acts to follow. This song , he is referring to finding a higher power (Jesus Christ) as well as his other songs Power of Love (lyrics: Change your hawk to a little white dove, more than a feeling .. that's the Power of Love), Jacob's Ladder (from the bible) and many other's. He was revolutionary in the mid 80's in the way he brought a positive Christian message to the forefront of rock and roll.
Ray Parker Jr. was going to be sued for using the song as the basis for the Ghostbusters theme. Eventually, there was a settlement out of court to resolve the dispute.
Ray Parker lifted the music from this song for Ghostbusters. Huey Lewis was approached to write a theme song for the movie..he declined (i think because the movie studio demanded the word Ghostbusters had to be throughout the song). Ray Parker lifted it and was then sued by Huey Lewis and Huey won big time.
Ahh man, I sheded a tear when she said she loved you, it sent myself into a thoughtful place I don't want to go to because I am alone. cherish that woman with all your soul. ok let's get lighthearted with fun music videos
I really like Huey Lewis and the News. Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.
I had front row tickets to see him, and had to give them away because the concert was the same day as a friend's wedding that I had promised to photograph. I was really bummed! I love these guys!
Huey was awesome..seen him at a state fair here in wisconsin, but unfortunately,he doesnt sing or perform at all anymore. He has meniers disease..lost alot of his hearing. its sad.
Ray Parker Junior got sued by Huey Lewis for ripping off this beat for the Ghost Busters song. React to their song/video Heart and Soul from the same album, I can guarantee you’ll both enjoy it!!
You two are so much fun to watch and I only know 2 other couples who look at each other with your level of love for each other, Mr. & Mrs. Chris Stapleton and my wife and I. I so love and respect that rare level of love that I have to call it out when I'm blessed enough to witness it. My best wishes to you both.. PEACE!!!!!
Half and Jai -- Huey Lewis and the News did a song called "Working For A Living" which was covered by Garth Brooks f/ Huey Lewis. You ought to react to both!! Great tune! Shoot out to you!!
Correct group for Back to the future…but not related to the movie at all. The sports album was released in August 1983 and the movie was released in July 1985. Huey Lewis and the news provided two singles for the movie the title song “Power of love” and also “Back in time.” Also, the producers for the movie ghostbusters tried to hire Huey Lewis and the news to perform the theme song for their movie but Huey Lewis and the news declined and then later sued the studio and Ray Parker Jr. for plagiarism. The case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount. Then a few years ago VH1 produced a special on Huey Lewis and the news and they discussed the court case. This caused Ray Parker Jr. to sue Huey Lewis because the settlement was to be confidential.
in the video they had to push the porche because it didnT run.true fact saw it in an interview with the band. This was one of there first videos at the beginning of mtv i no i was there.)
The movie studio wanted Huey Lewis and the News to do a song for the Ghostbusters soundtrack, but they declined, so the studio turned to Ray Parker Jr, who basically copied their song to make the Ghostbusters song. He got sued and had to settle with them.
What a lot of people didn't realize was that Ray Parker Jr., when he did his song "Ghostbusters" was that it was basically this song with the time signature sped up and it incurred a lawsuit against him from Huey Lewis
Absolutely stole directly from Huey's song for the ghostbuster theme song. Parker and the movie got sued and settled out of court for $5 million.
Makes sense
I read once that there was a clause that Huey couldn't talk about the suit publicly, but he broke the clause And Ray got the money back.
@@johnbuck3374 yup, there was apparently a nondisclosure agreement that Huey Lewis probably had forgotten about at the time that he'd sued Ray Parker Jr. for copyright infringement
Lewis stole the song from Ray Parker Jr. and won a ton of money in a copywrite law suit.
Do you remember Huey singing in USA for Africa? His voice was perfect in that song.
Singing alongside Kim Carnes and Cyndi Lauper
Huey and Steve Perry had the best voices in that song. Michael Jackson a close third.
I miss the Sax that was so prevalent in 70s and 80s songs.
I just miss 70s and 80s songs...with or without the sax!
Big Man rip Clarence Clements👍🤔
I just miss ALL REAL INSTRUMENTS AND REAL MUSICIANS!! now they use those boards and make people that can't sing sound so so and you know what they do and call it music🤦♀️
Yes especially the Alto.
One of my favorite and most talented band of the 70s and 80s.
Huey Lewis has a good voice. I had forgotten how much I really liked him.
He’s almost deaf now. That’s why they stopped playing. So sad.
I'm so glad you guys reacted to this song. It's one of my favorites. I've always been a Huey fan and I'm sad that his health has made him quit singing. Being a San Francisco native, Huey has been around here for a long, long time.
Huge fan of Huey and the News. Songs of my teens. Never ever tired of watching reactions to these guys.
Happy Birthday and I have been waiting for this song,
Love Huey

Man I did too love these guys
The whole "SPORTS" album is good .
Huey sued Ray Parker Jr. for using his beat, In Ghostbusters.
They
settled I think, but Huey won!

The 80's were a blast! The music, the clothes, the dance. Bring it back
I clicked so quick! Lol! I love this song! I'm so old. But I'm so glad I grew up in this Era. I wouldn't trade it for anything! 80's rule baby! 🤟
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! This song is really sweet, she makes him feel so amazing that he wants a drug like that.
Another Huey Lewis great.
My favorite Huey Lewis song. Everyone I knew had this album. I still love it!
He talking about love.
Classic song. Huey Lewis was real big in the 80s. In fact he was one of the singers in the original We are the world. He had some songs featured in 80s movies too
I was born in 79, so Huey was big when I was being introduced to music in general. Love him to this day
Love is the drug. Also, a warm bed with the person you love does wonders.
You can't forget this video is from 1983, when not just the song but the video was everything. MTV was new and played music vids all the time.
JAI HEARD IT TOO - "WHO YOU GONNA CALL?" 😊
We used to hear these great old songs at the clubs- glad you can enjoy them on your birthday!
I never got to see Huey Lewis live with his band but I did get to see Huey Lewis when he portrayed the lawyer Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago on Broadway and damn he was good!!!
Aww...too sweet! Loving y'alls affection on camera! I see your awesome connection 😎 More, baby!
Loving the rock block reviews of Huey Lewis.
BTW.. Happy Birthday
Saw Huey Lewis in Vegas at the house of blues, man sounds amazing live too.
Happy belated birthday! Love this song “I want a new drug”!!!!

You both have sooo much fun together........Like my wife and I do, since 1971.......keep up the fun.....happy Birthday!
The drug is love. The original title of the song was I Want a New Drug Called Love.
That was the Rhythm & Beat of the 80s try 'HEART OF ROCK & ROLL'
Huey Lewis was asked to make the theme song for Ghostbusters but they already had a prior commitment for another movie, Back to the Future.
Happy Birthday Half.. May you have a beautifully Blessed Day. Sending Great Vibes from Modesto..

Have a wonderful day on this your special day..
I think you should react to Hall and Oates. They had a lot of great hits in the 80s. "I can't go for that" is one of the greats
I used to party down to Hughie's vibes. One my favorites of the time and still is.
Happy birthday. May your year be blessed and joyous. Love Huey Lewis. Great song.

FYI~ Ray Parker Jr. was sued for using this song's musical basis to create the Ghost Buster's movie theme song...
You two are so fun to watch. I always have a smile when I watch you. My daughter and I LOVE Jai's laugh. ❤
Such an upbeat song. I love it.
They used this song in quite a few shows and movies.
Hard to believe this is almost 40 years old.
Lol I used to go ice skating at the mall when I was a teenager and this song played all the time
