- Goodfellas introduced America to a lot of complex characters, from Tommy DeSimone to Jimmy Burke, but perhaps the most mysterious was Paulie Cicero aka Paul Vario. Today we will look at Goodfellas most enigmatic characrer.

Vario was an absolute maniac. His portrayal in the movie was great, but the real guy was horrible lol.
I remember Burt Lancaster playing Robert Stroud in Birdman of Alcatraz. He played a good natured prisoner who studied disease of birds and even wrote books about it. In real life, he was a violent, homicidal, homosexual who spent half a century in prison. Pauley kicked the bucket while in prison along with Jimmy Burke.

One thing that bothers me about the movie is how they portrayed Paulie as like a father figure to Henry. If you’ve ever read the book Wiseguy, and the one that came after it, Paulie was a POS scumbag.
