    • @drjeniffer_garcia
      @drjeniffer_garcia 10 місяців тому

      Hi @carlyscott2219. I am a professor of health informatics in both undergrad and grad programs. I am also an HI professional. To answer your question in my opinion, yes, but it depends on the work your willing to put into finding an HI job. The field of HI is growing fast, so look for entry level positions. With no previous healthcare or HI experience this is the best way to get into the HI field and learn. When you get that jop, learn as much as you can. After about a year or so under your belt, start looking at HI industry certifications. Its a great way to gain more knowledge, looks great on the resume, and makes you more marketable and justifies raises or salary requirements form prospective employers. A masters in HI would also be beneficial. I always recommend my undergrads continue on to complete a masters in HI. If you work with EHRs, get sponsored through your employer and get certified. Be careful, sometimes health organizations do not have an in-house health/clinical informatics team and contract out for EHR support and maintenance. If that's the case, you most likely won't be able to get sponsored. Something to think about. Best of luck to you!!!

    • @healthanalyticinsights
      @healthanalyticinsights  10 місяців тому +1

      Hello Carly, it can be difficult to find an entry-level role in this field. If you can volunteer at a healthcare organization or hospital while working towards your BS in healthcare informatics, this might help you to expand your network. In addition, if you can do a co-op or placement at a healthcare organization during your degree this can help to provide you with relevant experience.
      Some roles in the health informatics field include: business intelligence analyst, systems analyst, reporting analyst and/or clinical support analyst. If you are looking for comparable job descriptions, one tip I have is to search on LinkedIn Jobs or Indeed: "SQL" + "Healthcare" or "Power BI" + "Healthcare" to get a sense of the job roles and see if this is of interest to you.

I recently did a podcast episode of the Health Analytic Insights podcast with Andrea Hobby "What Does A Career in Public Health and Data Science Look Like?" who made the switch from public health to data science, this might be of interest you.

      Hello,
      You might want to look at research assistant or help desk roles at a healthcare organization or hospital to get an understanding of clinical terminology. In addition, some roles in the health informatics field include: business intelligence analyst, systems analyst, reporting analyst and/or clinical analyst might be a good fit if you are interested in this area. If you are looking for comparable job descriptions, one tip I have is to search on LinkedIn Jobs or Indeed: "SQL" + "Healthcare" or "Power BI" + "Healthcare" to get a sense of the job roles and see if this is of interest to you. If you look at this career map from AHIMA: ahima.org/career-map, the Informatics and Data Analytics sections would be relevant to you.
      Some common technical tools used in the analytical side of health informatics include:
      Knowledge of SQL programming language to query relational databases.
      Experience with visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.…
      Experience working with large clinical datasets
      Ability to work both independently and in teams

    How will AI affect this career outlook?

    • @healthanalyticinsights
      @healthanalyticinsights  10 місяців тому

      Natural Language Processing which is a subset of Artificial Intelligence can have huge benefits for the healthcare field, due to the massive volumes of data, specifically unstructured text data, which is collected daily from healthcare organizations. Helping to auto-populate the EHR records is one way to reduce the burden on the medical scribe or clinician when it comes to data entry, so they can spend more time with the patient and less time staring at a screen. In addition, on the administrative side of healthcare, integrating healthcare chatbots which use natural language processing to answer FAQ’s can be a way to reduce the administrative load for healthcare organizations.
