@@otrpatti thanks alot currently a diploma nurse and I needed someone different, but I had tots on how to go about it
This video was really helpful for me. I’m applying to attend USF once I graduate with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
Hi Angel, thank you so much for the kind words! Best of luck to you and thank you for watching our videos, please let us know if you need any more help :)
Congratulations Angel!
@@otrpatti I have a question, Did you go for masters in healthcare informatics program or Graduate certificate in Healthcare informatics program .
You are really amazing ! This vedio was extremely helpful!
@@karens5963 I obtained my cert after 4 classes but continued onward to obtain my Masters. Thank you for the compliment Karen! I'm glad the video was helpful and that you appreciate my perspective to help you. : )
I have a Master's in Healthcare Informatics and feel ill-equipped to do any of the jobs that were listed. Having achieved this in 2005, I do feel the course load was not geared towards Informatics, of course you don't know what you don't know. I train EMRs and am certified in Cerner. However, I imagined healthcare Informatics to be coding/programming or highly technical. I feel that most employers that hire a healthcare Informatist expect a computer genius. Listening to this video helps me to understand that perhaps I'm working within my field. I like the speaker am more people centered and process improvement and am not a numbers person. Currently, I am a contractor and need to find fulltime employment. This video has encouraged me.
So happy to have helped!
@@AlternativeHealthcareCareers have you offered anything on EHR consultants?

I’m a certified medical coder wanting to transition into another area. I have a Business degree and 18 years healthcare experience with 5 in Billing and 13 in Coding. I’m burn out from production work but not sure where to go. I feel like I’ve watched so many of these type videos but I’m overwhelmed. I’m thinking about a data analyst type role or something to do with analyzing the processes/ work flow. Help!
I would look into some schools and see what they offer to help you in your search. Good luck in your journey.
I would look into the usf program
Very inspiring
aww thank you so much!!
Thank you Richa.
Nice video!
I am a nurse but don’t have strong computer skills. What can I do to feel confortable in this field?
There are a variety of courses you can take online ie LinkedIn Learning to get more comfortable. Feel free to speak w an advisor at a school to help ease your mind as well.
You can learn on UA-cam and totally do this!
Thank you for this video and your insight. I work in clinical research now. I’m think about going to do my masters in health informatics. Do you think a SACSCOC accredited masters program that doesn’t have HIMSS AEP is worth attending?
I would say it's a personal choice Grace. My school offered it so it was included in my tuition. I really liked having it because of what it offers but you can always pay for it out of pocket too if your school doesn't offer it.
Thanks!
I am a diagnostic x-ray tech, would this be a good field to study? We utilize PACS systems and I am wondering if having this degree would be beneficial for medical imaging informatics.
Hi! I think it would be beneficial!
I'm currently a PTA thinking about going into health informatics however I'm not completely sure where to start. What certifications would you suggest and where could I find them? I found this video to be the most helpful.
Thank you! I would reach out to USF and they can hear your situation and best advise, as they have a masters and a smaller certification
thanks for this very helpful video, i currently have a masters in HIM and informatics but cant seem to find a job yet, i was wondering if there is a certification for informatics. TIA
Hi! Yes there is, a great one is through USF :-)
There was a cert prior to obtaining my Masters to USF. There are various certifications to create the life you desire.
@@AlternativeHealthcareCareers USF?
Thanks for the vid. Can you live in Europe and work for an American company as a health informaticist? I'm American but want to live in Europe. I guess what I want to know is if there are American companies willing to hire health informaticists that work as nomads..
I'm guessing it depends on the company.
It depends on the company you work for
Hiiii .. i wanted to know how difficult is health informatics to study as am dentist and i dont have much idea with computerss …it will be really a great help if anyone could guide me and give a good advicee..thanking you in advance
If your a dentist ..you got this! Informatics utilizes technology and people. I would recommend doing a bit more research to see what you enjoy to find your niche in the field.
Yes 100%, you got this , take the leapA
I’m a Rehab Tech who’s struggled to get my prerequisites for OT done while balancing two full time jobs. I want to know would you recommend baiting both degrees at the same time?
Sounds like you are doing a lot, so just do what you can and maybe get just the certificate to start
@@AlternativeHealthcareCareers thank you so much for replying! I’ve alway her this interview almost everyday since my interview for the Master Program last Friday. Im patiently waiting to hear back but I am very excited to see where this career path takes me. I’ll keep you posted. Also are there any entry level positions that may be helpful to start with?
Update! I got accepted into Mercer University School of Medicine for Healthcare Informatics!
@@breannajones1561 that is awesome! Congrats!
Can you tell me which nurse can get into this .What the critiria
Any type of nurse or medical professional can 😀
Finishing up a health science degree, but I’m interested in working in health data analytics, what would you suggest?
Hi, I would try to intern in informatics to make sure you like it and also perhaps they then hire you and reimburse you to get your masters, that is what I would try to fo if I were in your shoes 😉
USF has 2 roads that's you can choose from ...I would check on the school.
I'm interested in Health Informatics but I don't have any clinical experience. I'm worried that if I get this degree that I won't be able to get a job. I've been told that nurses, physicians, pharmacists etc are more favored in the health informatics field. I was also considering an MPH but like you said a lot of people have an MPH.
Great question, yes I do agree that I think RN is more preferred but more and more therapists and assistants are standing out in this field. All I can say is that any therapist we've known to get this degree has gotten a job very quickly - but that is a combination of their hard work as well as the degree :)
There are people from different fields in this field with different opportunities out there....don't give up.
@@AlternativeHealthcareCareers absolutley! Great answer.
Interested
Check out usf :-)
Help design better systems than what EPIC offers.
Yes 100%!
Would this be perfect for a nurse trying to transfer into this career?
yes absolutely
Yes 100%!
If you’re not that great technologically, would informatics be a good career to go into?
Hi! Its not that much technology, maybe just excel and you can learn that over time or watch some youtube and practice, so I wouldn't count this career out
I would look online and see what is out there regarding what you would like.
Is it easy for people coming from non technical background to study health informatics?
I didn't come from a technical background either ...there were times I had to look on Linkedin learning to get more of an understanding but I graduated.
Oh yes 100%!
Are there any certified medical assistants in the health are informatics field?
There are several different backgrounds when I was in the program at USF.
I would reach out to usf to see if its a good fit :-)
I have a bachelors degree in Health Sciences. Would I be able to transition into this field of Healthcare Informatics?
Hi! Usually you have to get a certificate too which doesnt take long, but you can definitely do this with a bachelors bachelors in health science 😉
Absolutely. Call the schools you're interested in and see what the requirements are.
How much did it cost? Am an IMG looking to go into informatics
Hi, it varies by the program- I would suggest spealing with the USF dept for most upto date educational costs
Hello! I am really really really interested in this field. But I am told that the future scope of the field does not look good and job availability is going to decline rapidly as a degree isn't even necessary.
I am an international dental student. Do you think it's true?
No way, its a super growing field A
There are various areas within the field..alot to choose from in regards to careers.
I have completed my masters in microbiology and doing job in production department. But I want to switch my career to IT sector. I wanted to learn about data related work. And then I come across "Healthcare Informatics". Should I proceed with It?.
What to learn to get this job post?, Which skills are required, As I would like to do data handling work. Will it be worth?, What is average salary?
Waiting for your prompt response
What did you decide?
sorry for the delay I am not on here much so I apologize. I would contact an advisor to answer some of your more specific questions related to your needs. There is also another post on the alternative healthcare site with an interview w a Professor from USF that may answer some more of your questions Siddharth.
I would reach out to patti or the usf team :-)
Thank you patti. Does patti have a youtube channel?
Hi, she doesnt, but please let us know your questions and we'd be glad to have patti back on :)
So sweet. Thank you. I don't have a UA-cam channel. What are your interests?
Ms Patricia Did you do graduate certification or masters in healthcare informatics
She 1st did the certification but went on to do her masters
I have one more question for Ms Patricia . In USF university there are two concentrations, healthcare analytics concentration and general pathway ! I think Ms Patricia did choose the general pathways . I would like to attain general pathway too but I would like to make sure . Please kindly reply . Thank you so much
@@karens5963 hi, correct she did the general pathway, the other one is more for techies that want to coding and programming
@@AlternativeHealthcareCareers Thank you so much for the timely response!
I stayed in the health informatics track and did not specialize in the Data analysis track as my passion was more hands on
I don't have any clinical experience. I work with scheduling, insurance, My Chart representative. I fear I will fail if I have no experience. Do I need clinical experience. I have health science bachelor's
Hi, great question! So I would have a call with a school like usf and they can really best guide you. Having the degree like Patty took very much helps and during the education you do internships and that helps gain experience so outside of that you shouldn't need prior experience. But I think having a call would be best
What sort of job can i get after Doing B tech cse in health informatic
Any job really, work in tech roles, hospitals, schools , lots of opportunities and its just about what you are interested in :-)
I earned a degree in Health Informatics in 2019 but I have not been able to get a job, what do you think I should do?
I would reach out to the USF school and see if they have any connections and also make sure to reamp resume and cover letter and network on linkedin :-)
What's your Background? And did you get a job?
I would look online to see what the need is out there and just by doing that you can see if there may be a certification you can obtain to freshen your resume to fit the position you desire.
I'm an occupational therapist and I haven't been in school for almost 10 years. I'm looking at clinical informatics programs but the requirements ask for 3 letters of recommendation. Do you have ideas who I can ask? I don't know anyone in this field.
I went back after 20 years. You can ask your employer, a colleague, a coach, anyone you volunteer with or a religious /community leader for some ideas. Hope that helps!
Typically former boss or coworker
