  • Are you struggling with backing up a trailer? I've set up a tutorial on how to maneuver in tight areas. Can be applied to any situation, if needed. G27 steering wheel, and TrackIR.

      I just got it for $5 on Steam and I think it's great. It's kind of strangely relaxing. I'm still working on trying to get some podcasts streaming in so I can listen as I haul. I am having trouble with the reversing though, which I'm finding pretty frustrating.

    It's videos like this that I finally learned how to position the trailer. I was having a hard time so I would just click on the easier options mostly just a straight in parking job. I also compared this video to some other actual backing up videos done by offline truckers and it's pretty much the same. I could never figure out how to back up into that tight space where you were backing up into in this video so thanks for the help on that. Those are some crazy jack knifes and probably close to crashing the back corner of the cab into the trailer lol.

    • @SergeantExtreme
      @SergeantExtreme 4 роки тому

      @Benjamin Schiltz Vlogs Not me. I decided right from the get go that I would learn to park a truck properly. It took me nearly 45 minutes to complete the tutorial, and 40 of those minutes was me spent trying to park my trailer. I did, however, learn a lot about backing the truck and about how turning affects the trailer. I kept taking the hardest parking offered by the game. And eventually, I learned how to park a truck this well simply from trial and error.

    that type of maneuvering in real life would put lots of strain and wear on a trailers tires, axles, and suspension specifically loaded. But I see it's fun in the game I play ats too

      I totally agree. This is a killer. But this is what it looks like every day on an oilfield location. Granted, it's dirt, and not asphalt. But even on dirt, it's hard on the trailers.

    One of my first out of school and into the real world backings was a dividing cor curtain wall of cinder block where i had to do a lane change type parallel park into the spot with the wall starting on the blind side and ending on the sight side with a trailer already in the next spot over. I have come across some tricky parking jobs that are not covered at all in Training School. A Game like this would have helped greatly, best played on a full size simulator rig, ie three monitors, steering wheel, shifter, three pedals and some feedback sensors.

    clearly the best part of American Trucker is when you get to the site. That is why the 2014 game Trucks and Trailers is awesome. It all about parking not spending 20 minutes on the highway to get to the fun part. I wish there was a new version of Trucks and Trailers especially with American Trucks, not the scania cab overs.

    Where do drivers go to learn these skills ? The ones coming out of truck driving academies don't usually have this much skill !!!! Heck of a video by the way

    • @thefirstcrew4194
      @thefirstcrew4194  7 років тому +6

      Thank you. These maneuvers are what you see every day on oilfield locations. They are small, and cramped, so trucks have to drive like this. Also, this is a video game. Just saying this, so you don't hook up to something heavy on pavement, and tear up your trailer.

    • @shaneb1313
      @shaneb1313 6 років тому +3

      10GALLEN81 of course they don't! Truck driving academies are just, "step 1, step 2, & Step 3" institutes! They just have to "by law", teach you what they have to, "by law", to get you to pass the fucking test, administered by some old, retired dude that took the job to make a few extra bucks and, give him a reason to get away from his nagging, twat of a wife that he's had for 40 years and wanted to get rid of but, is too afraid he won't find anything better so, he stays!' Oh, Did I get off subject again? Anyway, you get the picture. These academies are all about the $$$$$! Get em in, get their money, get them out, hope they don't kill someone!

    • @ShatteredCiv
      @ShatteredCiv 6 років тому +2

      A little easier doing this in 3rd rather than 1st person. Even experienced drivers backing-up in RL aren't 100% in all situations all the time. I wish I had an ability to see 3rd person at 360 degrees when backing my trucks in RL. The academies teach the basics, the skill comes with experience.

    • @kevinspires9561
      @kevinspires9561 6 років тому +2

      It's all about experience honestly. You can't just have someone show you or tell you, you have to do it constantly. That's how I learned by playing ATS

    • @frankbo25
      @frankbo25 5 років тому

      CDL schools are mostly just to get you ready for the CDL test. Its like grade school. Your trainer afterwards hopefully will teach you real world techniques. You get better with experience especially getting on your own

      +Richard Swartz Yessir, I should have. I noticed a lot of things I should have touched on, after it was uploaded. Funny thing is, I watched it in the editor many times too, and never noticed it. It is a very good point, though. The bigger steering inputs basically get you in the ballpark, but the little ones are the difference between parking a trailer, or having to pull up and try it again.
      Are you in the middle of getting your CDL?

    • @thefirstcrew4194
      @thefirstcrew4194  7 років тому

      If you're talking about a "5 and 4", where you don't use low gears for compound gears, (have two shifters), then I can't give any good advice. I hook my left arm through the steering wheel to shift the four speed, while using my right arm to shift the five speed. It's a pain, and I was never good at it.
      If it doesn't have two or more shifters, it's a matter of getting used to it, and starting in a higher gear/skipping gears as long as you're light enough.

    • @thefirstcrew4194
      @thefirstcrew4194  7 років тому

      That's hard, because you've got three points of pivot, instead of one. And since there's quite a bit of play in one of the connections, you have to be real quick on corrections. I'll admit, it's out of the scope of my skills. There are people that do it, but they are damn good at what they do.

    Yeah but it's harder when your trying to back the trailer sitting n the driver seat, I try to play realistically using my mirrors and such and it's a lot harder when you don't switch to different camera positions, I'm going to truck driving school and trying to learn how to back using only the driver seat point of you lol I bet even doing that on this game would be hard for you also lol

      +The First Crew Yea, still no road trains, no double b, no self steering trailers, no hands on the steering wheel, no towing, no heavy hauling.. etc. Its just a modified Ets2. Heck, they didnt even change the main menu..

      It is built on the same engine, thus no double B, stingers, etc. As far as the menus go...they weren't broke. Why change them?

      Pretty sure it's not on the Google Play store, but it is available through Steam. The correct name is American Truck Simulator and it's by Czech independent developer SCS. If you like driving, you'll love this game. Give it a whirl!

    I have been a driver since 1987. This video on backing is not the most efficient method and is not the method taught in Truck Driving School. The most effective and efficient method of setting up to change lanes backing is to simply pull forward straight until the trailer rears are past the end of the lane and you can see the target in your passenger mirror. The 1-1/2 turns of the wheel to left, back until you see the right front corner of the trailer, then turn the wheel right sharply until you come back around and you see the driver side trailer tandems about to enter the opposite lane. At that point you steer right until the rear guides easily into the lane between the lines and back straight by coming around with the tractor until straight. Perfect park. Parallel parking is done similarly.

      Philip Murray i agree i have been driving for a long time now and this vid is ok but not good if it was me i would come in and turn left then do my backing up and some spots i deliver to i have to back up all the way down the side of the building and into the back to get to the loading dock and there is always trailers there so its not easy and if you do a cdl test and you take to long to figure it out you dont pass

      Guys, this is a game, and this video is to show gamers - not truck drivers - how maneuverable trucks are, so they don't give up. Now the things depicted in these videos, while not easy on equipment, are the types of maneuvers you'll see 24/7 on oilfield locations. But I wouldn't recommend them on pavement unless you were in a jam.

      The First Crew agreed I think the only ones who would dislike the video is professional drivers. I loved the video as I play the game and have a HARD HARD time backing

    That wouldn't work on the real road test , cuz most driving center wouldn't give you that much space to do the pull up.
