  • Flamingo is a special place in Everglades National Park where mainland habitats merge with the waters of Florida Bay. This is 55 miles southwest of Miami and a world away from busy city life. Flamingo is the jumping off point for recreation like world-class fishing, birding, canoeing, boat tours, camping and hiking.

I love Flamingo, in the same day you can see wild dolphin, manatee, alligators, crocodiles, snakes, fish, fowl and insects. Awesome!

Was just down there this weekend. Nice to see it starting to get back to "normal"... Looks like Canoe and kayaks are available again. Camp ground was nice, and not crowded. My boys LOVED camping in "the forest"...

My favorite place in Winter. Great job on the video Bob! Wonderful to see Tim, Andy and Dan showing the marvels of Flamingo. Can't wait to be there again! Peace Joel

I was besieged by hoards of mosquitoes so thick it was absolutely impossible to go outside the motel. I’ll never forget it.

Such a beautiful place. The mosquitoes are intense, but the trails are amazing.

"Until a few years ago, lodging was available at the two story hotel, 24 cabins, and a campground. The venerable 103-room lodge (opened in 1959) and cabins were far from luxurious, but they were affordable and served their purpose. The rooms had air conditioning, which was perhaps luxury enough in the prevailingly hot and humid summer months. Most visitors came in the cooler months, of course, to avoid the worst heat and mosquitoes.
In 2005, Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Wilma -- the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, and the third-costliest storm in U.S. history -- ravaged Flamingo with powerful winds and a nearly ten-foot storm surge. The hotel and cabins were damaged beyond repair. The cabins are already gone, and the lodge is scheduled for demolition."
Unfortunately neither the cabins nor the lodge were ever rebuilt
