    This is such a great video of one of the NPS's best kept secrets. Can't wait to get out there again!

      Thanks for watching. One of the best things about a paddle trip through the Everglades is the variety and diversity of the campsites. I've been there twice, and hope to make it a third time!

      Since you work there I imagine you’ve discovered a solid method for dealing with the mosquitoes, can you offer some tips? I tried using Off during my first visit but it was pointless. Thanks for your help!

      @@Chopitupwithme brother I honestly never go to that area during the rain season and if u do go wear a mosquito suit and latex gloves that’ll be your best bet 👍

    Great video! I've been to Everglades National Park several times and love it but I have not yet done a backcountry multiple night adventure. It's definitely on the bucket list.

      Ah yes, paddlers beware...any stretch of open water can be a challenge when the winds start to blow, lucky for us we had perfect paddling conditions on that particular day.

    For the record, alligators are not endangered in Florida. Great video, enjoyed it very much.

      Hey Daniel, You are absolutely correct. The info I had must have been out of date. Further research shows that the American Alligator was listed in 1967 as endangered due to hunting and loss of habitat but as the species rebounded they were removed from that list in 1987. Thank you for pointing out that error. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

    That was a little different. The chickee set up are wild, no ground to pitch a tent. Hammock over the water in a pinch.

    • @TheOneCanoe
      @TheOneCanoe  6 років тому +1

      Ya, the mangroves are nothing but mud and roots, no solid ground so the chickees come in real handy!

    Hey, are you guys Canadian? Less than three minutes in I see a maple leaf on the back of the paddler's vest. Paddling the wilderness waterway is a bucket list dream of mine. I'm Canadian, never been way down there. Edit: I see you mentioned Canadian winter near the end. Explains the sense of "no accent" and the use of Celsius.

      Yes, we are from Canada. It's always nice when we can escape a Canadian winter and head south for some canoe adventures!

    Great trip guys. You guys are lucky to have someone to paddle with. Do you have any suggestions for a solo canoe with a 400-500# weight limit? All of them that I find are rated for only 300#'s. Thanks for sharing.

    • @TheOneCanoe

      I'm sure there is a lot of choice for a solo canoe with a decent size payload capacity. Personally, we paddle Nova Craft canoes, and a quick check of their web site reveals several choices. There is a 12' Trapper solo with a capacity of 490 lbs. They have a 14' Fox solo with a capacity of 550 lbs., and a bit bigger gets you a 15' Prospector (two seats) with a payload capacity of 850 lbs. I'm sure other manufactures have similar models.

      I currently have an Old Town Outfitter 147. It would e fine if the bow seat were farther from the front to allow me to turn the boat around and paddle it solo. Do you have an opinion on moving the seats around (drilling the gunwales) to accommodate? If it works out well for me, then I will be extremely happy with it, but if not I am afraid that it will hurt the resale value of the canoe. I may just have to bite the bullet and go for it...

    • @TheOneCanoe
      @TheOneCanoe  6 років тому +1

      I've paddled many canoes solo by sitting in the bow seat and facing the stern, never had an issue with seat location. I think the key is gear placement. When going solo I try to place as much of my camping gear as far forward as possible to even out the weight.
