Designed for the German Luftwaffe by famed aircraft designer Kurt Tank in the late-1930s, the Fw 190 was the backbone of the Luftwaffe in both fighter and attack bomber roles. Powered by a large radial engine, the A version of the Focke-Wulf 190 was superior in many ways to the Bf 109s and Spitfires at the time of its introduction. In fact, this led to the development of the Mk.IX version of the Spitfire. The Spitfire LF Mk.IX and the Fw 190 A-8 make excellent counterparts for DCS World. The Fw 190 later evolved into the Fw 190 D-9, also available on DCS World.
Many of the Luftwaffe’s aces racked up their impressive kill counts in the Fw 190 A due to its impressive fire power, excellent low to medium altitude performance, durability, and ease of flying. It saw action on both the eastern and western fronts where it was both respected and feared by allied pilots. Armament included two fuselage-mounted 13 mm MG 131 machine guns and four wing-mounted MG 151/20E 20 mm cannons. The aircraft could also be loaded with unguided rockets and bombs.
The A-8 version of the Fw 190 entered production in February 1944, and it was powered by a BMW 801 D-2 radial engine. In addition to excellent low- and medium-altitude performance, the engine was also very rugged. Along with the F-8 version, it also had thicker armor around the engine. The engine also received the C3 injection system that provided an emergency boost of 1,980 PS in short durations.

Fw 190s smashed up a raid on Regensburg and Schweinfurt on 14 October 1943 so badly that the Americans gave up daylight bombing over Germany until the long-range P-51B/C Mustang escort fighter came into service. Even when escorts arrived, the Fw 190 was never a pushover for any Allied pilots, anyplace, anywhere. A tale circulated during the later years of the war that when an overenthusiastic American manufacturer printed an advertisement that displayed an Fw 190 to mock it with the caption: "Who's Afraid Of The Big Bad Wulf?" -- they got a copy of the ad sent back to them in the mail along with a letter signed by everyone in a bomber unit that said: "We are."
750 round 20mm ammo can destroy any plane in 1 second. I saw a guncamera recording of a A6 or A8 attacking a B-24 from the front. The FW hit the cockpit area and everything was torn into pieces.

Can you dogfight with this thing with only one wing, like you can with the DCS Spitfire? Can't do that in Il2 either.
Wow, I'm not a gamer, but the graphics in this is just SO real! I love the FW 190 best all around aircraft there was, Kurt Tank was a genus designer.

Jesus, what a video! My Dad was flight instructor on the greenheart FW 180. I liked that plane so much. But the rest he did not like at all and allways said, that this whole war was an unbelievable great crime against humanity.

One of passed away tow pilot on my home airfield fly a Focke Wulf 190 in ww2. I never forget him and how skilled he was. He tells me a lot about this fucking war and how many friends he lost ... War has nothing to do with glory. Rest in peace . Karl Buda.

I watch this and the BF 109 videos whenever I need to fire myself up to play again. I hope we see more missions/campaigns for the German WWII birds. Keep it up DCS, with more WW2 content you continually make it harder to determine if I should be a DCS or IL-2 guy!

Well, recording is one thing, processing it into a game sound is a whole other bag of issues. And hey, I think the DCS sounds are awesome. Maybe not perfect, but it's darn good.
@@EagleDynamicsTV Taking the Mustang as an example, why does it not sound akin to their real life counterpart in every single video I've seen? The worst of it is the idle sounds and the backfire sounds (which I suspect weren't recorded off an actual Mustang, at least not from outside). Also how the prop aircraft sound from a distance.
Additionally, starting up the carbureted warbirds is way too easy. I can actually hop in DCS and start the Mustang's engine with sound off, blindfolded. It's linear, straightforward. It does the same thing every time it starts. There's very little in the way of dynamics. The DCS Mustang doesn't require any tickling of the primer (in fact it requires very little). The DCS Mustang doesn't take more than one attempt *ever,* if you don't forget to do something. It's not temperamental at all. I can't even count six blades to tell when I should turn the magnetos to both, because the DCS Mustang will start to fire off _with them off._ A lot of Mustangs today yes, are rebuilt engines. But many are rebuilt in conditions no worse than during the war, in fact more likely better condition, considering we have more accurate equipment, there was a lot of pressure to fix things rapidly during the war, and aircraft today are treated like museum piece because they are such. And no, the DCS Mustang is not warmed up, ready to scramble upon spawning in. All the temperature gauges reflect the air temperature.

+1 ED:DCS - WOW that FW 190 is gorgeous! What a great choice of warbirds! I used to fly an RC model version, among many others, during the 1990s. The FW 190 was a magnificent flyer.
And this truly cinematic quality video is outstanding it looks so realistic. Certainly wish you fine folks at ED would do a civilian flight sim version to put the 'usual suspects' out of business, with their older-than-dirt gaming engines. Yes, I'm talking about you Laminar Research/X-Plane as well! Of course, ED must allow customers to create our own airports/scenery areas, a la the same usual suspects, to provide rapid worldwide coverage.
Regarding all the comments about crappy aircraft sounds, I know it's gotta be a massive challenge, even using actual recorded engine(s) audio, to capture the frequency/pitch changes of a rapidly moving aircraft/object courtesy of the Doppler Effect. In fact, it must be the Holy Grail of sound realism since no flight sim to date seems to have perfectly replicated it yet. I'm sure it won't be long now though.

The A8 was thrown in to battle to try to put a dent in the American bombers coming over, therefore the four cannons. But, nothing is for free, those extra two cannons come a weight premium, degrading turn & climb performance. The A8's first priority wasn't mixing it up with the escort fighters. Still, a pilot that can manage his speed & get behind a Mustang will make short work of it with the four cannons.
Love to see a FW190 versus the F6F Hellcat. They did tangle in WWII at least twice or more.

May 1944, F6F's from the Fleet Air Arm's No. 800 Squadron, from HMS Emperor, (1 FW lost 2 F6Fs lost)
The F6F did not fly during Operation Torch. That was the F4F Wildcat. The F6F combat debut was in September 1943.
