11:10 Closing Thoughts - Наука та технологія
it was nice of Riley to help train the drones to hunt down humans.
Put some different music on this and it makes a nice "robot uprising" clip xD
We're like 90 seconds to midnight on the Terminator clock.
He has done something irreversible
I'm just past the halfway mark of the video and my reaction was: "we are f*%$ed!"
....what is my purpose... You hunt tech news 🗞️
Everything Riley did in this video was exactly what I would have done with the drone. This was awesome unboxing and first impressions.
yeah especially the "run away!" portion! id want to see how good it could chase me. pretty sweet little unit
Ok not gonna lie this little thing seems dope. That follow feature when Riley was running thru the lot, then stopped and turned around, you could do some cinematic action shots with that thing. Expensive tho.
*through
Jfc 🤦🏻♂️
@@kunimitsune177*tho, it's a common abbreviation that everyone uses, there's nothing wrong with it.

Not expensive, pretty good price for the drone alone.

12:31 A cockroach on the wall near the lamp?) You can see how it climbs the wall.
Some kind of bug.
Natures drone, built in FPV and everything lol
Riley's pet
Oh, that's Roger Roach. Don't mind him
I don't think it's a coach roach, since it's not that common in Canada, but certainly some kind of bug (or spy drone).
10:50 i didnt believe he is a dad until now because he runs like one
I was thinking the same thing😂
I was thinking he runs like someone who works in IT but I guess either way could be true...
"You're doing it Peter!"
Excellent Hook reference there.
i repeated his phrase in my head with the correct voices of all the boys at the table haha
@@ghomerhust And the epic music, right?
the free style, 1st hand Riley unbox and review, without any preparation beforehand, is something else 😅
Holy... this is actually pretty sick. It's response time and video clarity is really impressive. This is the first drone that makes me say "I want one".
DJI Spark could do exactly the same things + gestures, while also being normal drone with a transmitter. About 8 years ago.
@@gleebeevonkordke2068this company was founded in 2014 this isn’t new.
@@gleebeevonkordke2068 the form factor is important
I expected this to be gimmicky af... but it actually works really well!
V2... Grabs drinks for you?
I think he's confusing certification with registration. Larger drones require you to register them with the FAA. It's $5 and you have to put the provided serial number on the drone. Basically so if you F up they know who done it.
Certification (part 107) is needed to fly commercially.
This comment is 100% accurate and should be Pinned.
Not correct. You need a 107 certificate no matter what the size of recreational or commercial if you fly above any people period. The fact that he is flying above office workers requires him to have one. Not that he would cause a stir with this but the fines are very hefty. I know very few places without any people. So you are still required to have certifications. Otherwise it requires a waiver.
@@Techfanatic73 him flying over willing participants does not require a part 107 or a waiver
@@Techfanatic73 with a category 1 drone
@@Techfanatic73 One interesting detail is that Category 1 drones do not need any FAA approval in the form of an MOC or DOC. This means that the drone pilot can do a self-assessment on their drone to determine whether it complies with Category 1 requirements.
As of writing, there is not yet a single drone model that has been approved by the FAA for Category 2 or 3. This means that, right now, flight over people and moving vehicles is only legal if you operate a Category 1 drone.
Imagine using all of these as a mesh to do 3D scanning everywhere
You don't have to imagine. Photogrammetry has been a thing for a while, but without distance data its not great. And I doubt the app allows you to record distance data
USGS has done pretty accurate LIDAR scanning for most of the U.S. It's all freely available (public domain) if you look around their site.
That's actually one of the main commercial uses of drones. As long as you can autonomously capture an area it works quite well.
@@bush2137with LiDAR tech getting better and better every year, I foresee drones being used a ton for photogrammetry in the future
@@bush2137 well if it got a stable flight path and maybe something for reference in the shot its simple trigonometry - bet there is software for that
Actually impressed by how well it was able to follow the sprinting Riley. I can really see this being a useful small device for small action shots or just some smalll gimmick shots if you are a content creator. Like for example VLogs or just showing off angles that you usuallly can't film from.
It can also be pretty cool if you want to record yourself doing something like a skateboard trick. Vlogging might be more iffy because of the 11 minute battery life.
@@leonro yeah, but for tricks it really needs a fish eye lens
That feature isn't something new or unique, the $399 DJI Mini 3 does all of that (QuickShots), is 4K, can actually be controlled by a remote, can use a battery that lasts almost an hour and transmits video over 6 miles. Or, you could spend $400 on this thing, get 11 minutes of flight time, only pre-programmed flight path routines (no controlling), no video feed capability and only half the video / image resolution, makes zero sense at that price. Shit, a DJI Mini 2 has the same resolution, 3 times the flight time, 6 mile range, a remote controller and similar shooting flight path templates for $299, literally $100 less than this thing, and it's a DJI. Now, if they sold this thing for $150, then it becomes somewhat interesting and could be worth it for some people.
There was no sprinting. Not for a second.
Used their first one 6/7 years ago on my honeymoon. Worked brilliantly while walking around with my wife. Like having a cameraman around.
Riley has so much Michael Scott (regional manager from The Office) personality here.
This would be quite useful for creators who film themselves doing things, but are a one person show. It would be neat and allows them to do shots of themselves walking to places and stuff i guess
Dammit. Someone beat me to the thought.
But you can already do that with a DJI drone that folds down to about the same volume and has triple the battery life on one battery, better stabilization, more auto pilot features and control and a dramatically better camera with full manual control and lens attachment/filter capabilities and slips under the 250g registration requirements for under $300 with the dji mini 2 se.
This thing is cool but I see it as a $150 to $200 product at best with the competition already on the market.
But the thing with DJI is you need to carry a huge controller with you. This little drone operates by itself so it's super convenient to just start it up, pack it up and leave. @@LiquidFoxDesigns
these things are great for people that do sport things, being able to just have a filmer everywhere you go is such a wonderful thing 🤣🤣
Hey Riley, I just loved the manner in which you and the Hover drone bonded so effortlessly! I'm so impressed with the camera footage and the ease with which you were able to extend your hand out and the Hover drone would land on it. Totally awesome!🎉😮😊
Looks like its going to fly the tv remote to me.
This finally feels like future tech. Can't wait to see what fascinating crimes people come up with using this!
12:34 THERE IS A BUG CLIMBING UP THE CABLE TO THE SHORTCIRCUIT LED SIGN
hhhhhhh I shuddered, that lad is bIG
This unboxing was cooler than I expected it to be. Very impressive drone actually! Cool video :D
That's really cool, it's like your own little automated camera man. Buzzing in to take the jobs of some of Riley's colleagues!
That is pretty damn impressive. Audio through the phone was way better than I thought it would be. Also Riley is hilarious. 😂
Glad Riley is having fun with it. Keep it.
My favorite part of this video is how progressively attached Riley got to the drone.
surprised how this actually works so well and how the experience is quite straightforward, very consumer friendly
Watching that drone chase you was freaking HILARIOUS! I must admit, interesting product 👏
that was a pretty good unboxing video , riley covered nearly everything teh product has to offer
My brother got i about 6 months ago took to his New Zealand trip and we used it to follow us on our run. It worked great. Just took a few times to get used the gestrues and settings as you are wondering if iwll do thing your wont it too. But after about and hour you pretty know what its going to do and any limitations / quirks. Definatley work buy
I swear I saw a kickstarter or something of this thing year ago! Didn't think it was possible back then, really impressed with how well it works.
Yeah, I was thinking that - was a kickstarter quite a while ago, promised a drone which could follow you snowboarding and stuff like that - IIRC it never delivered... Good to see it becoming an affordable reality!
This is my favorite ShortCircuit yet this year!
That thumbnail is great! You matched the “is this a meme” perfectly xD
im not into drones, i heard 11minute flight time and was like, how is this going to work because i thought of it being a competitor for DJI drones. after watching you use it and what it does, its for quick shots of cool stuff, and the modes it has seems to work well, pretty impressed.
Lol wtf 11 min flight time holy crap this thing is useless
There's a pretty popular Electric bike UA-cam channel that uses this to catch video of him riding the bike. It was pretty impressive and much better that seeing someone trying to hold a selfie stick.
@@emilyshabang Can you name the channel? I'm actually curious about video quality, since the video they showed here were kinda meh
@@SpongeBob.Ripped You clearly aren't experienced with drones. 5 - 10 minutes is common for most drones that hobbyists fly. You only get long flight times if you optimise for long flight times, like using efficient motors and large batteries and keeping weight to a minimum. For example with this drone if you took off all the parts that you dont need to fly, like the propeller guards, hinges, etc, then you could get a longer flight time.
Would love to see the reactions of the other people in the lot who are just working, glancing out the window to see this man dad-run through the car park chases by a small drone
I _love_ the form factor of this thing
I remember something quite similar existing a decent bit before the pandemic, but this seems to be a much more refined version of it, the UI also seems rather nice
I absolutely love this thing. It is the first drone ever made me consider buying to be fair, because it's not about controlling the device, but simply just use it to your advantage.
The follow mode worked surprisingly well, pretty impressive!
Would be interested how well it does if there is a bit of wind. I go hiking fairly often and this would be a neat little companion to take some cool pictures and videos with.
In various parts of the video the trees and Riley's hair are flying around quite a bit. Nothing crazy but it seems to cope with the breeze out there fine. Now if you start hiking at elevation, I can see an updraft taking this thing pretty quickly with how light it is and all the plastic guards, might be too much air resistance lol.
Yes, you still have to pass the TRUST test and get the certificate in the US to fly drones under 249g for recreational purposes. You just don’t have to register the drone with the FAA. If you want to fly ANY drone for commercial purposes, including UA-cam, you need to pass the FAR 107 test and register the drone with the FAA regardless if it’s under 249g or not. Not sure the rules in Canada.
In Canada, if it's under 250g, you don't need to register the drone or carry a license.
More info here: tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/drone-safety/learn-rules-you-fly-your-drone/flying-your-drone-safely-legally
@@ShortCircuit Thanks for the info! Was just pointing out Riley said at the beginning that you did not need a license to fly drones below 249g in the US and Canada. The US does require that you pass a test and get the TRUST certificate for recreational drone flying regardless of weight. Thanks again for the info on Canada.
All I could focus on for a minute was the sick rebel lol. such a fun bike!
wow 11 minutes of flight time, endless 11 mins of fun
Looks nice and stable.
This thing actually looks really cool. Especially if you want to just get some fairly cinematic shots seemingly very easily and automated for you. It would be _really_ cool if you could do video calls with it. Like use it as your camera's view. You could just like have the other person hovering there feeling like they're standing next to you and walking with you etc. Is that pretty useless to do? Yeah. But it would be cool to do sometimes! haha
There's something incredibly anime about how you hold your hand and it lands.
OMG now I want this. For the single feature of it coming back to my hand. xD
You should have tried the manual mode, as I imagine is what you'd want to use the most after playing around with the other modes for a bit
@@leeroyjenkins0 6:00 its literally in the menu, Riley even read the title of the mode. I was waiting for him to test it but it was left out, I imagine it may be the best mode for having fun in the long term so why not show it at all
If you can get these to work in unison to do all the modes or only specific as wanted/required; it would make for some very interesting applications of the tech.
For instance, a trouble detection mode that forces all the drones to fly off a small pack and start recording the entire situation. Out of range for most things, and able to send their video off to safe storage for later if needed.
Of course there is the inverse surveillance issues that might arise with stuff like this. But that's just the way it is with tech. Good and bad uses exist.
I could watch Riley talk to drones for hours, this is great
Thanks!
watching the drone chase him in the parking lot was scary, I imagined multiple autonomous hostile kamikaze drones each strapped with half an ounce of TNT trying to hit my head >_>
I see this being really useful for recording skateboard tricks.
I bought the original model of this about 6 years ago, it was just called Hovercam. You can't get replacement batteries any more.
If the camera was better this would be amazing for single crew filming. The follow especially was very well done :D
I could see people doing vlogs and such with this since it seems to have pretty good image stabilization
Damn, these drones have evolved more than Riley since NCIX!
wow great drone
There is a difference in certification and registration
@SpartanOfLuxon Incorrect, if you're flying recreationally you still need TRUST certification
That thing looks sick
That's actually really cool. A pretty reasonable price point too.
It's amazing how when recording audio from a phone, the drone appears totally silent.
I'm honestly surprised by how smoothly this works!
This is so cool!!!!!
I know nothing about drones, but this is pretty cool.
It's so rare that something like this actually works as advertised. Respect!
We just watched an unboxing and demo of the Skynet Frontline soldier.
I reviewed this same design 10 years ago at CES. But I guess it's got software upgrades now.
That is pretty Kool for a little thing.
Could it be that the long download times have something to do with the fact that the audio and video files are separate and have to be synchronized and added together into one file?
I bet that takes some processing time
This would be a cooler product if it had some sort of gesture control where you can wave it back instead of it just coming back at a set amount of time.
Can't wait to see the 3rd Generation of this product when the quality is even better and the price is a bit lower.
That looks like a lot of fun. I can see the follow recognition being tweaked to track a fleeing criminal
Cool !
I'm buying this to make it continuously pursuit my friends 🤗
great Hook (1991) reference!
LOL, "Typical Price: $479". A DJI Mini 3 has a 4K camera with stabilization and 10km video transmission, 38 minute flight time, under the 250G FAA limit, comes with a controller and has the same built-in "flight modes", optionally larger battery gets you almost an hour and it's $450, or without the remote controller it's $390, cheaper than this thing and you can find used controllers on ebay. Why the hell would someone buy a HoverAir X1 when they could get a Mini 3 for basically the same price?
is dji easy to use and can it land on your hand, i want my fist drone but im scared of crashing it, i live in an apartment with a balcony
@@drinkwater9891 they can be, but keep in mind that most drones are not meant to land in your hands, that's actually pretty dangerous, they're intended to land on the ground, usually from the same place that they took off from. Some of the boxed / caged blade designs can probably be safe enough to do it.
Literally funniest LTT video
NGL, this is something I’ve wanted in the back of my mind for a long time
These wee drones give me Batteries not included vibes 😊
The picture is surprisingly stable for how wonky the PID controller seems to be. Do the arms not lock in? They didn't seem perfectly straight which might impact the PID controller's ability to keep it stable...
I like that drone.
super mario 64 style camera angles. i love it.
This thing is really cool
That stach has come even longer!
This thing came out just in time for Snap to issue a recall on the Pixy.
Such athleticism
That is pretty cool
If they can make a silent version of this with a lil assistant integration that’s my dream. Lil flying buddy
Neat.
Snapchat released the same drone over two years ago
And just recalled them all.
This one is similar but definitely updated with a gimbal, longer flight time and better path navigation.
@@illuminati229 didn't know that... Thanks
This reminds me of a scene in Minority report tv show.
i have one now too,a pitty the video quality is noisy if you watch it on a big screen(grainy) even with great light conditions,i shoot at the max that is 2k 30fps
This little thing is curious, I love the form factor and the ease of use, but it also feels strange not to have an actual manual controller to fly it with. Given the price tag that's in used Mavic Mini territory so, it's really down to the user experience rather than the specs because image quality wise it would get blown away.
Why the censoring on the downward facing sensor array?
The way it just plopped itself back on Riley's hand is kind of adorable. It feels like a pokemon
It's pretty cool but a little expensive at the moment. I have to say the follow mode is impressive and the video quality is good. So in a few years if the tech is a little cheaper it's a cool gift for a kid.(and dad)
Check out the stability on that drone lol
both a bit of a giggle and completely terrifying
Finally, they added in a 3rd person camera. Took you long enough devs.
This is the video that made me realize that someone entrusted Riley with a child. Congrats on the non-tech quickie
Nice Honda rebel
