It’s been a while since we filmed in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and with the ever-changing food scene we thought it was about time to put together a series of spots we’ve been meaning to hit up for ages as well as old favourites which we’ve never had a chance to share on the channel!
What we ate and where we ate it:
Lucky Gs, 1A Westech Place, Glen Eden, Auckland 0602. Open Wednesday to Friday 12pm to 2:30pm and 5pm to 8:30pm and Saturday 12pm to 8:30pm.

I live just around the corner from Lucky G's and didn't know it existed! Talk about low profile! Anyway I called in for a test taste earlier this week. The Thigh Guy was really nice. I'm going back to try the Twice As Nice and maybe some fried chicken tonight. Thanks for pointing me to these guys.

Usually I can pick a favourite in a line up like this. I'm tied between Thomas twice as nice and the boat shaped pita. I just loved the setup in that guys truck, were he was making the dough and rolling it out with that almost washing machine rollers machine. Obviously custom made. You guys throw so much at us every video, I have to go back and watch them a couple of times. That's going to be one lucky baby.

Arrrgh! I broke my own #1 rule for watching your videos! DO NOT WATCH ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. Watching Thomas chomp into that burger, and Sheena into that fried chicken had me almost drowning in saliva. Now my stomach is growling and grumbling, because I'm so far away from anything even close to that. Now I'll have to try to forget that deliciousness, and fill the void with my go-to favorite yum, prosciutto and fresh mozzarella with crusty bread. Hugs to you both and a snuggle for little Zaida, for such a lovely peek at hidden gems.

Great content , honestly those burgers remind me so much of the Hungry Horse burger joint on Manners Street in Wellington in the early 70’s (long gone) , simple food done well.

Love Duck Island… been going to their Ham East store for about 5 or 6yrs. Love their peanut butter cookie dough, white chocolate pomegranate macadamia and boysenberry cheesecake! Yum! 😁

As a burger fanatic I can say the best burgers ive had in Auckland is a place called The Grind. Its on the way to Kumeu. Will try that place tomorrow as I live around the corner.

Those burgers looked pretty good, but in all honesty,and with vast experience eating burgers around the world, Compton Burgers here in Perth,are visually better,and lean more towards the American style. Wish I could share some photos with you. My offer still stands ,if you come to Perth,I will take you there ,my shout. Good to see the standard of burgers has massively improved back home in NZ though.
Years ago,back in Rotorua,there was a Gourmet Burger shop,decades ahead of its time. It was called Rapscallions, they had Venison,Ostriches, Fish,beef,Chicken and Lamb,and they were sublime.
Forgot crispy Pork Belly as well.
There are so many awesome burger joints here now mate! And there are loads more we still have to visit although that’s no hardship 😄 That Rotorua spot does sound like it was ahead of its time. Thanks again for the kind invitation if we’re ever in Perth! Thanks for watching this one 😄 Cheers, Sheena

I'll be dropping my wife, pescatarian, to the airport for a trip home and I'll be headed straight here for a smash burger. By god. Thanks for the videos, we went STRAIGHT to Ras Vatika when we got out of MIQ last year, inspiring a summer holiday to Inida. 40 nights! We stayed at Kohu Kohu... awh must be a load of breweries, Russel.. places up north. Peaches! NZ.. look it is expensive here but by god so much culture and food. I have a dominion road recommendation and several wine options too around Matakana if you're interested. All the best to you both.

Lucky G's is good not great, but it is a smash burger and you can only climb so high in with a smashed patty. The new wagu looks dry and over cooked, but maybe he ordered it that way.

Hi. We spend hours researching by reading, eating etc so always make sure we eat amazing food in the videos. If it’s not up to standard we quietly put the camera away and stop recording. This is a positive channel and who are we to bad mouth hard working people if we feel something isn’t so good. We’d rather just not show it and find something else that is amazing and celebrate it and the people making it. Thanks for watching. Thomas
We do 😄 but this channel is about celebrating great food so we don’t put the energy into bagging small businesses that aren’t creating food that is to our tastes. We only showcase spots we truly love. We’re also super into researching great spots before we eat and film as it’s a waste of time and money otherwise in my books- so we don’t often have bad meals- perhaps mediocre ones occasionally but not too often. Good burgers but extremely over priced
So good aren’t they. I don’t think they’re over priced at all. They use very good ingredients and as you say the burgers are really good so it’s worth it. Food costs are very high at the moment and a shop like this isn’t immune to those price hikes when they’re buying their ingredients. Thanks for watching. Thomas.
