How to zero (virginize) any BMW cluster for retrofit or exchange?

- Replacing a cluster in your BMW is not as straight forward process as you might think. Before trying to put used cluster into the car it has to be virginized. What does it mean and what happens if you just ignore that rule? Do different series (E, F and G series) require different approach or there are way more common things? How different is the process for retrofitting full digital 6WB cluster and half digital 6WA? If you are interested in those questions watch that video! I'm explaining difficult things in an easy manner, so everybody is able to understand the process until the end.

Man... what a cool video!!! So I learned that buying a new one is the best I can do, at least for my case. I have a G20 M340i, a used in good condition cluster goes around 400 in eBay and an additional 400 to virginize it in some local shop. A new one from a BMW dealer is 1200. So basically going used I will be saving only 400, wasting time, potentially having it broken and still have a used one. So yeah, I'll go for a new one. Thank you very much man!!!!

I have a BMW M850 XDrive. Year 2019. After purchase, everything worked. I went for chip tuning and popcorn making. Then I went to a mechanic who replaced the battery in the front of my car (technical) and did some digging because I wanted to have a BMW Me. Car from the USA and he came to the conclusion that he wouldn't do it. I picked up the car, the radio was Sirus (America), it was impossible to change the time, it was New York. I did a reset from the panel in the car. But what's most interesting. Previously, I had a different car sound with eco and switching to sport+. Now I don't feel any difference when starting the car. And there was a different characterization. The flaps open. and they are open all the time. Tuning has been undone. I called the dealership and they said that the flaps should open in comfort and sport+ modes. However, they are still open. The guy who previously converted from the US to the EU accessed my car remotely and doesn't know what could be wrong. I have a cable for remote connection.
the steering wheel also behaves similarly in all modes.
I have the impression that the car is in sport mode. Changing to comfort and eco does not cause any difference in the behavior of the car and the steering wheel works just as hard.
The only difference is in sport+, where the car actually revs higher.
I've read that people have various problems after replacing the battery. technical, but I haven't read about a case like mine anywhere.

Keys are not connected with cluster anyhow in bmw.
In VAG cluster is part of immobiliser system.

Hello Vladimir, I have just came across your channel and instantly fell in love, thank you so much for such great content, specially this one here, about virginizing the instrument cluster prior to retrofitting, now, a quick question if you please, do you know the codes for the EEPROMs on the BMW F15 (x5, Year 2017) instrument cluster? Or will any 8-pin EEPROM will work just fine? I bought a used car and the previous owner did a nasty job on the instrument cluster by removing the EEPROM all together (instead of virginizing it) and bridged the gaps with wires! Now I want to buy new EEPROMs and have my technician resolder them back to the board, but I want to buy the correct EEPROM, any advice?
I’m afraid that cluster is useless now.
EEPROM and FLASH have IDs and they should be identical.
If you don’t have even the information from previous eeprom then that cluster can be used for parts and no more (

on 6WB is very easy to change the miles to km

There is it a single programmer in the world that will do all the jobs perfectly. In the end you will need many of those anyway
Hello Vladimir, excellent channel content and tutorials. My F21 2013 cluster is in mpg . Cruise control speed is also in mph .Can cruise control speed be coded to kmh or do I need to swap cluster to kmh.
When taking cluster from US/UK then some parts of EEPROM are in miles and has to be treated separately.
So not so straight forward.

Hi Vladimir, thanks for the video. I found this very useful! I just got a virginized 6WB from my seller. But, after installation and coding, maintenance notification pops and "reset impossible". Is is due to incorrect virginize steps? I am thinking to virginize it again and see if it helps...
It’s difficult to say. If coding went through then it’s most likely not the Virginizing problem

Rose alloy with low melting point has about 25% of lead, you said they use lead free soldering in F clusters.. did you NOT use this rose alloy to solder it back, only to remove it?
I always use rose alloy to desolder eeprom
Then good cleanup with copper wick is needed
And soldering back wo rose alloy. If you leave it there, you will have a lot of headache 🤕

hi, for the second eeprom 95320,(15:39) why you did not use the adaptor(clip) on the pcb? does the adaptor won't work? need to solder the eeprom on the eeprom pad?
On 95320 clip should also work.
But soldering does not take so much time but it guarantees 100% result

Hi could you help me regarding my car. So I got a cluster from a f80 and I want to install it in my bmw f30. I got the cluster virignised and plugged it in. I don’t have a most cable yet. But once I plugged it in there is a tamper dot but with my cars kilometres. What must I get done now? For the cluster to work between my car. I know coding is required and the most cable but I think the tamper dot should not be there? Did the person who virignize it didn’t clear the vin?
If you code the cluster to your vehicle then red dot should not be present.
If it is still present, then sometimes vehicle needs to go for a sleep. 😴
It dot is still present, then verginizing process is as not done properly.
And fitting M series cluster is not so straight forward. Take that into consideration.

Fantastic video Vladimir. Unfortunately, my cluster broke and my mechanic temporarily put a non-virginized cluster (with very high mileage relative to the actual mileage) in the car. Neither the VIN nor the mileage were corrected on that cluster so neither of them match the car's VIN or true mileage. I'm wondering if the non-matching VIN may have saved me from having the DME and lighting control module being reset with the cluster mileage. Can you comment on this? If the mileage has indeed been reset by the cluster is there a way to fix this?
Yes, if VIN does not match then mileage will not jump.
But I have seen cases when it still did jump.
So newer put used cluster to the bmw wo virginizing it.

Hi. Newer clusters use 35128wt, how do you manage to virginise it? i know they have page-id so cannot be erased..also when you manualy delete vin does it not require checksum correction? thank you

Great video and really informative! Just a small clarification regarding your explanation about hexadecimal numbers. You mentioned right around the 13:05 mark that the value 0xFF is equal to 0, which isn't accurate.
In the hexadecimal numbering system, a single digit can represent values ranging from 0 to 15. Unlike decimal numbers, which only have digits ranging from 0-9, hexadecimal numbers extend that by including the first six letters of the Latin alphabet (A-F) as additional digits. In hexadecimal, the digits range from 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F, where 'A' is equivalent to 10 in decimal, 'B' to 11, and so forth up to 'F', which is equivalent to 15.
So, when you look at a one-byte hexadecimal value like 0xFF, it's actually equal to (15 * 16^1) + (15 * 16^0), which calculates to 255 in decimal notation, not 0. The representation for the decimal number 0 is consistent across binary, octal, decimal, and hexadecimal numbering systems. In all of these systems, zero is always zero. In the case of hexadecimal, it could be written as 0x0, 0x00, or 0x0000, but it's always equivalent to the decimal number 0.

Hi great video! I had my cluster changed on my F11 and now the milage first shows 9 miles before increasing to the correct millage (around 88k). Also on every ignition cycle the milage increases by 3 miles without driving it. Is this an issue with how it has been virginised by the seller or how it has been coded by the installer?
It’s cannot be coded for somehow mileage auto increase
I’ve verginized a lot of clusters and didn’t had a single issue of that kind. It’s hard to tell what is the problem.
I have this same issue on my car, every time I turn the car on and off the mileage goes up anywhere from 2-60 miles on my odometer.. my odometer reads like 149,500 and my Ecu reads about 136,400. Do you ever get this figured out Pedra?
Usefull info here. thanks for that. I tested out of curiosity :D. When the Mileage of Cluster is not resetted or is higher then the car's. It shows still the km of the car. And adds 5km to car's mileage every time car started. Car is a f10. not sure how would it be on other models

I put the original Black Panel Cluster out at 48600 km...i drove 430 km with the new cluster...then i decided to sell the car and put the old cluster in....but it does not take the actually KM ( 49046) over...why is this? why dont give the car ecu the new KM to the old original cluster???

It is doable not with every eeprom type.
Starting from eeprom 35128/35160 eeprom ID is written into flash and they are not interchangeable

Владимир, такой вопрос: а можно ли поставить приборку от донера, получить эту злощастную красную точку, а потом через какое-то время проделать показанную процедуру и обнулить приборку к нормальному виду. Меня эта точка совершенно не смущает, оригинальную приборку планирую оставить, а купленную потом продавать. По этому не хочется заморачиваться с прошивкой, т.к. в моем городе нет таких спецов :(
С точкой пробег будет отображаться не корректно.
И кодировать приборку под авто все равно надо.
Здрчвствуйте ! На моей БМВ Е46 рестайл 2002года поменяли приборную паннел. Панель взяли тоже от рестайла 2004 года. Поменяли и на ней загорелись лампа отASC и ручник жёлтым цветом. Вроде кодировали . Пробег встал как на родной и без точки. Но лампчки горят. Мне сказали что это панель от машины с системой DSC. А у меня ASC. Поэтому и горят эти лампы. Может не правильно кодировали ? Или всётаки взять микрочип от родной и терепоять на другую панель .
Если кодировали через ФА (а в вашем случаи ZSC ключь) то должно было помочь.

Да и скажите пожалуйта. Не имеет значения если машина с системой ASC а панель от машины с системой DSC? . Или всётаки искать панель от машины с системой ASC? И спасибо вам за ответы.

Здравствуйте. Приборку расширенную обнулили, привязали. Ошибок нет. При смене на режимы спорт, eko нет никакой анимации, только название режимов меняется. Что посоветуете? Перепрограмировать? G30
Выровнять istep никогда не бывает лишним.
Если там NBT Evo то анимация должна работать

If some ECU is gone bad and doesn’t allow bmw to sleep then it has to be exchanged.
As a test try to disconnect Kombi and see if bmw goes to sleep properly or not.
(BMW should fall into sleep if locked for 20-30 min)

Hello! Used 6WA for BMW with 160D0WT eeprom was read with CG Pro 9S12, i did mileage correction and erased VIN and installed in car.
Cluster was coded, no red dot but every time i turn ignition on mileage increases with 5 Km without Red Dot Tamper. Any ideas?

35080 type and 35128 will have only 1
35160 type will have x2 eeproms

Странно вообще как то получилось, вин потерли, пробег не трогали, так как пробег с донора меньше чем в авто, закодировалось все норм, точка потухла, но чисто случайно заметили, что при переключении зажигания прибавилось 5км,и так постоянно при каждом включении зажигания. Думали что возможно проблема в авто, стерли вин и установили в другую авто, и тоже самое. Кто может подсказать или решить проблему?

Режимы все равно меняются. Просто в настройках убрана галочка отображения смены режима.
в приборка до 2015г только один чип, который легко стирается, но для его извлечения нужно снимать стрелки
В приборках Е серии да только один еепром.

On that eeprom it’s ID is written to the flash. So replacement is not possible.
*Hi. Looking at the Eeproms, the one that cannot be erased is 160DQ = M35160. I did a BMW M3 the other day and I managed to correct the mileage by choosing 160DQ (Mode 1) on the programmer (CGpro). I also switched to CG PRO to work with clusters. In my opinion it handles EEPROMs better that VVDI Prog

Для обнуления все равно надо работать с EEPROM. А там в дампе уже и пробег видно будет.
Так просто как на Е серии подав плюс и минус не получится.
@@BimDoc в eeprom смотрели пробег, он там как то зашифрован 4 символами. В специальной проге расшифровали. Но все равно присутствует сомнение. На f10 с компа кидал 12в и смотрел. Многие говорят что и здесь так можно, но никто не делал.
@@BimDoc я посмотрел предыдущее видео с обнулением 6wb на f10. Там вы говорили что просто подав 12в можно увидеть пробег.
Hello, I think you are using the wrong adapter because cg prog shows that you need to use 35080 and you are using 35160wt?
Definitely not. 35080 eeprom was installed on E series dashed. And yes 35080 will require another adapter.
Over here we are working with F series.
yesterday i did f series 160dow i used 35080 adaptery and everything is ok

Приветствсую Владимир. Vvdi трет эти микры запросто главное выбрать правильно микру, в вашем случае это не 35160 а 160D и трется она даже без адаптера.
Один из немаловажных советов могу дать: нужно фотографировать позиционирование микросхем перед выпайкой - очень полезная процедура :)))
Сфоткать это очень хороший лайфхак. Каждый раз если не сфоткаю, вспоминаю об этом ))
Для работы с EEPROM еще лучше программатор CG PRO
@@BimDoc я заприметил что в cg pro можно сразу пробег править :)) это достаточно удобно. Я вот последнее время облизываюсь на CGDI prog, судя по описаниям штука классная
У меня оба есть. Для приборок он намного лучше

Just tried and unless you have the experience of soldering it’s ducking crazy hard
EEPROM swap is possible on E series only.
On F and G it will not work in that way any more

On G series there is 35128 eeprom. And not every programmer can manage it.

Why not just move the chips from the old cluster to the new one?
That will work only on E series and only if eeproms are identical

А для чего использовать дорогое оборудование, для данного щитка достаточно обычного R270 за 1000 рублей. И вторую микросхему можно не отпаивать а прищепкой поправить Vin.
Потому что выгоднее купить один раз более хорошую вещь. Чем пол каждую задачу искать свой программатор.
Прищепка далеко не всегда помогает.

Автор, не осветил тему насчет ID чипа. Ну и маленькие 5 копеек: first 2 ROWS of eeproms dump, not part or partition.
Да чип привязан по ИД к процессору.
Привет. Я все приборки отправляю одному электрику . Человек имеет оборудование которое позволяет не випаевать И пром. и всю процедуру делает с телефона. Я гуглил чтобы найти такое оборудование но не нашёл. Кто в курсе где купить?

there is a small trick with CG Pro to erase mileage, i have done lots of them (35160 and even 35128 chips) all of them were done successfully, ofcourse you have "erase failed" sometimes, but that's not a huge problem, usually it takes ~30mins to erase it.
