So basically, the rich have it easier because they have more room to maintain their vehicles and engine swap em.
Scotty Kilmer hahaha common sense. I like that.
You’re putting too much blame on the employees. This company pays dirt, treats you like dirt, benefits are a joke but you’ll only get 39 1/2 hours a week... that way you don’t qualify for benefits. Most of their employees have to supplement their income with a second job or welfare/food stamps. Now they’re always at work, not raising their kids, and being miserable. And the country spirals further into darkness.
Scotty I am going to get a Shelby 1964 replica and I was wondering if that would be a good idea, it's going to be my first car I've saved up for a while and should I get it or another car
I let them install windshield wipers. Micheline makes good ones.
Sam Walton said "I will always take care of my employees first, because when my employees are happy they will take care of my customers. " Since Sam's death Walmart has forgotten that.
Because low prices is what everyone wanted. Even at the cost of good service.
@Snake Plissken To quote Scotty, "You pay peanuts, you get monkeys." Working there is a prison sentence. A person has minimum dignity, treated badly by management and then by rude customers.
Now they intentionally underpay employees so they qualify for welfare benefits/medical coverage. So instead of Walmart paying fairly for that, us taxpayers cover those costs.
I haven't shopped at Walmart for almost 20 years because I boycott them because of that.
Yes they have. The waltons have raked in such a fortune, im not even sure it makes a difference to them if they increase pay for their employees or not.
@Snake Plissken the problem is since the 70's minimum wage has not risen to account for inflation whatsoever, walmart intentionally pays their employees pennies to screw the gov't over so they can get tax breaks and gov't subsidies so that they don't have to offer actual benefits.
I used to work there. Employees don't see a dime for doing a good job. There is no point for working fast and efficient. You just work enough to stay invisible and keep all the managers off your back. There's a lot of them.
Sadly that the truth. I work for Walmart but as a overnight stocker. They expect too much for so little pay. I only do enough at my own speed and not trying to carry the whole team.
Yea I worked as TLE tech. Half the cars we got were shitty run down.. came in with issues then we get blamed for it. Plus when we get bitched at it’s hard to wanna work clean n good
Usually one store manager, one assistant manager and four support managers ! 📡🗣👇😁👍🇺🇸
I agree, I used to work there too

Pay the bare minimum and you get employees who do the bare minimum. That’s basically Walmart’s entire business model.
Plus, avoid at all cost having your employees unionize! Even if you have to shut the store to do it. (They've done that.)
They don't pay bare minimum and are in fact raising their wages every year. They have been for several years now. Their plan is to be at $15 minimum within a few years.
Yep they quit paying minimum wage a couple years ago. I worked at the corporate office for five years and it was pretty good. Im not sure about working in the stores. Im sure it depends how the managers are at each store.
Toyota dealerships here (north US) pay technicians 13/hr.
Actually they pay $11 walking in off the street and knowing nothing. They only hire part time so they don't have to pay for benefits. And they promote based on incompetence, a form of job security for middle management, so they don't need to worry about an underling taking their job🤷♀️
A Walmart employee once said to me “I don’t get paid enough to care about your car.” Last pair of tires I ever bought there.
I respect that employees honesty i know it probly make you mad to hear that at first but you probly appreciate it now
At least he was honest
I tell people all the time that same thing.
"You pay peanuts, you get monkeys."
Great quote.
The side note to SKs remarks are in many 🇺🇸 places employers or firms hold wages-rates down then expect workers to get 20-30 hr of OT, extra. They get sick 🤒 or stressed 🥴 then do bad work. The customer or client then suffers.
You pay peanuts, you get elephants
@@Fit_soldier You pay peanuts, you get squirrels.
I like peanuts lmao!
More like bananas...
I worked at Walmart and you doing cars take a while and people complained "ive been here 4hrs". It took 4hrs because 12 people were ahead of you. Yeah, Walmart is frustrating but customers are just as childish when they treat a car shop like a fast food service
I had my oil changed at Walmart, I always did it myself, didn’t have time let them do it, didn’t know till next oil change that they had stripped the oil plug. Then there was no way to prove it because I couldn’t find the receipt. So now I have a $600 repair job thanks to Walmart.
I took my van to Walmart for an oil change, and as I drove it out the engine was making a noise as it had a coin or screw inside. That was it for me.
GilsTestChannel $600 repair job?? A new oil plug is like $10
Alfie ,Tried different three different oil plugs, all had the same problem,They didn’t work or they were about to crack the pan., the whole pan needs to be replaced. That’s a $600 job
GilsTestChannel dang 😔 id start a case and make them pay for the damage
I went to walmart to get an oil change years ago when I had no tools of my own. got home and the drain bolt was loose and leaking oil. Since then I started buying tools and working on my own cars.
Better than stripped! Those guys are morons there
@@WCGwkf Wal-Mart did strip mine once!
My mother in law recently went there for an oil change and they told her they weren’t able to do the oil change because they couldn’t get the drain plug loose. 🤦🏽♂️ I ended up doing her oil change.
I've heard that complain from literally many oil change shops.
It's a Walmart scam they will damage your drain plug an say you will need to replace it had it happened to me
I currently work at Walmart as an automotive technician and I can say with the upmost confidence that everything he said in this video is true lmao

Should I buy tires from Walmart tho
I change my own oil. No one touches my lady but me!
Same! Dealer is the only other place I trust. I've used "quick lube" places and 1. they use sketchy oil, 2. Charge $70 for synthetic, and 3. WAY over-torque the plug.
I don’t get why anyone pays to get their oil changed. You need only the most basic tools (most have these), and it takes 20-30 minutes tops. It’s the most basic car maintenance you can do, only second to filling the car up with fuel
@@KevAlberta my stepdaughter is getting her license soon, and while I don't expect her to be a mechanic, I'm currently teaching her to do basic maintenance. Check fluids, change oil etc. If she wants to learn brakes I'll teach her. Basic checks and maintenance will keep her outta the shop most of the time. And save her money as well
@@KevAlberta And ramps make it so easy to access! $50 for those Rhino Ramps will get any type of car way up, no worrying about jacks/stands. And probably last a lifetime the way mine are going.
@@fat1234568 ye but u cant change tires on those, and if the car is not level all the oil wont come out the pan, many downsides, might as well just get jack and stands

True.
Its a much more common saying in the UK than it is in the USA.
Yet they now get $15/hour at McDonald’s and still never get the order right... would paying them $20/hr get me the meal I paid for? The prices just went up also!

Don’t take your vehicles to Jiffy Lube or Firestone either.
Or Valvoline. When I got an oil change they didn't rotate my tires so now I need new ones.
Last time I took a car to jiffy lube they didn't put in the oil. Went down the road and fried my engine. Called the manager he said it would've locked up immediately. This was prior to the internet in 1985. I've done all my oil changes since.
I go to Hoffman’s jiffy lube, $25 oil change w coupon and a great quality car wash included , they did try to upsell me on a synthetic oil change but when I asked if it included a long life filter they said no, I asked if the filter would break down before the next scheduled oil change, they never asked me again

I bought my last set of tires for my car at Walmart. They were cheap and are starting to show their age, but I bought them 7 years ago. I bought a battery for the same car at Walmart after the original wore out and got over 10 years out of it. Happy with my Walmart car experiences.
I worked there for a year and a half. It’s not guaranteed to be a bad experience. I cared and tried my best every day. I got people in and out quick. But some of my coworkers were less than professional. I eventually just walked out one day and never came back. They’d blame me for things I didn’t do and make me go into the store and stock stuff. They had good benefits and good vacation time but overall not the best place to work. They really will hire a dead person as long as they’re still warm. And now they don’t drain the oil out, they just use a tube and suck it out, leaving a bunch of gunk in the bottom of the oil pan.

I’m from and live in Bentonville,AR the headquarters of Walmart and you’re right, it’s not the same company that Sam had. I agree they have to get with the times, but the philosophy and soul of the company shouldn’t change but it has.
Austin Epperson , Remember when they would pride themselves with American made products. Nothing is American anymore . Walmart is for trashy types . Sorry I offended a lot of people who shop there. But seriously if you accept crappy to save a buck , you’re dollar buys you crap 💩.
@@michaelhaulotte689 most of the customers are douchebag poor people too which usually can't accept a listed price tag for an item. Lots of rich people I know are cheap look at scotty wealth is created by saving not spending
I started off there and went to goodyear. The walmarts I worked at(I went from one to another after i moved) were nearly 2 completely different stores. The key difference was the manager at one used to own a local and well respected mechanics shop before he retired. He took the walmart job as a retirement job for the 10 percent discount, a little bonus cash, and something to occupy his time. He was strict about guidelines and procedures and is probably the reason I enjoyed that store honestly. He kept order and made sure things were fair and done right, but if we weren't busy he was always really chill and taught me a fair amount about vehicles. Scotty kinda reminds me of him a fair deal.
That's fair when everyone is working towards the same goals. And boss doesn't pick favorites and punish others.
I heard a horror story of somebody bringing their Dodge Viper to a Walmart to do an oil change. Well the dimwit who did it, didn't put the oil drain plug back in and roached the 50k or more motor. Needless to say the worker got fired. But the Viper owner needs a slap in the face reality check for bringing his expensive sports car to a Walmart. lol
+atranfanatic I made a "surprised Pikachu face" after I read the price tag.
@@Agent1W Yeah it also cost Walmart a pretty penny. lol
What's really funny is when they bring an expensive car to us at Walmart, then want the cheapest tires we have in stock, put on it.

Went to Wal-Mart for an oil change & they used Canola oil instead
Wow, you had a better experience than I did!
😂
True story. In the seventies, I worked for a lawn mower dealer, and a lady brought her almost new mower back to us for repair because she couldn't start it. The engine was froze up. She said she had just changed the oil, and it was clean and new, but smelled odd to us. We asked her what brand of oil she had used, and she replied "The manual said to use a quality oil, so I used Crisco oil". The good news, the pan was pulled from the engine, the upper bearing lubricated with a light oil, and the mechanic was able to break the crankshaft free. She was lucky, and she reminded us every year after that how thankful she was.
Lolololol
And if they did put Canola Oil in my Car They just Bought My Car this is Stupid People
It may not be typical, but the employees at our local Walmart in Florida are very nice and helpful.

That 4 hour thing is why I've started doing my own oil changes. Happened all the time at my local Walmart
The last time I had an oil change at Walmart took around 4 hours. It just defeats the purpose of the word "Express". I go there to buy the oil at a decent price and do it myself. Save time and money.
The last time I went to Walmart to have my oil changed my car was on the lift for 7 hours because the workers got it stuck and could figure out how to get it down. I was out of a car for seven hours till a lift tech came out to fix it. I will never go there to have any type of service done again.

Actually, Walmart does use that same Midtronics brand battery testers that Scotty has in the video. Ours are slightly more updated with a printer to print out the results of the battery test to give to the customer.
I had seen the reversed battery post issue happen a couple of times, but both times were due to a customer bringing a battery in that had been discharged and they tried to recharge it. If it were down far enough, I almost wonder if it wouldn't have happened if the customer accidentally put the reverse cables on the battery and it took a charge backwards. Sacramento Walmart Tech Andre. Best I've ever seen from oil to tires General checkup before I left town. Plenty of good advice as well. Saddened when I heard he left? So happy he is now with Tesla! They got a good honest man.
The reason it takes 4 hours to get your oil changed at Walmart is to give the epoxy enough time to set after they strip your drain plug.
Agreed. Two stripped oil drain plugs/bolts as my testimony. Had to have my oil pan retapped each time. When confronting Wal Mart, of course they said "no way we did that" sure. you were the only place doing my oil changes. Never returned.
Stripped plugs - very common.
Walmart's new slogan: Abandon hope all ye who enter.
Quoting Dante? Nice touch for a Scotty Kilmer video.
Waste money, Live worse, allways.
When my 14 Chevy Silverado a/c stopped working I took it to a local Chevrolet stealership to have it repaired due in part that they have trained/certified techs and should receive great service. Well Scotty they (in my opinion) took advantage of the extended service warranty that I purchased and ran up a $1100 bill and stuck it to the insurance co. After I got my truck back home I did a post inspection under the hood and found hoses on each side of the v8 engine still disconnected. So just because you go to a dealership and have trained and certified techs working on your vehicle does not mean you will receive good trained /certified results!
I used to work at a walmart TLE and everything you said is 100% facts
I started my career at Walmart automotive and I can’t disagree more with this video. I learned all the basics there and all the techs were hardworking and cared about their job
Tbh it varies from store to store. The one i work at, we get ppl coming from like an hour away, passing 1 or more other walmarts. I've heard straight up horror stories about others. However if you find a good one, their manager must run a tight ship and should be reliable.
Wow, you and me both, we are probably rare Walmart shops. I love the people I work with, we all work hard and our supervisor always tells us to treat the customers car as our own. The shop isn't perfect but when I work their it doesn't feel like Walmart.
Years ago, had oil changed at Walmart. They bent my hood because they didn't unhook the prop rod. It was so obvious. The "technician" tried to say "It was like that when you came in!". 😵
The four hour thing is no joke. They take a crazy amount of time. They also have a tendency to over tighten your oil filter.
Hi Scotty,
I am an ex Walmart TLE associate and I want to say some of the things you said is true. First, I worked as an automotive technician for many years from Firestone to many independent shops. I became burned out turning wrenches and received an offer to work at WalMart as the department manager of their hardware department. When their TLE Service Manager quit they came after me. I have six ASE certifications, two short of being a Master Tech so They wanted me to run their shop really bad. After a few months, I gave in and cleaned up that place.
As for tires, I think they do a good job. The Goodyears they sold held up well and were at a great price. They also hand torque the lug nuts to specs. Also, all Walmart associates get an annual raise. The reason it takes four hours to do an oil change is that Walmart pays by the hour and not flat rate. I have heard they have gone to a flat rate system but I am sure it's not from the Mitchell Labor Guide. Anyway, you and I Scotty think alike when it comes to car repair. Keep the videos coming.
I love your music too, "Momma's don't let your babies drive Chryslers"
No one:
Scotty: “My $5,000 scan tool”
“Take it to a professional mechanic like me”
"still runs like a clock"
Its a wierd flex, but ok.
Mercedes.. pfft..
You guys! ahahaha, luv it!
I used to get my oil changed there cause it was cheap and easy, but I found out they were putting the wrong type of oil in. Learned my lesson
I brought my car to Walmart once and I got fat and now wear a greasy singlet at all times.

Walmart will never see my car for repairs ever
Technicians at a Southern California Honda dealer only make about $11/hr no wonder they sent so many cars out without changing the oil 🤦♂️
happened to my wife's equinox at a local mccluskey Chevrolet. she found out later that a co worker had taken their car to them and ended up driving home with no oil. last time her car has ever seen or will ever see the dealership.
jomax clux to the dealership the techs are a dime a dozen they hire people with zero experience fresh out of high school and learn on the job the owners encourage this kind of practice it’s disgusting
jomax clux it’s not just California. Some guys in UA-cam explained the crap they had to put up through working in a dealership. ETCG1 is one of them and they’re not from California.

That’s what i was thinking 😂😂
When I worked for AAA towing, the horror stories I could tell you about Walmart auto care would melt your eyes...
Sears was once pretty infamous for screwing up cars or screwing over customers as well. Some of the Firestone shops used to be pretty bad, too??
Sears got in trouble back in the 1980's for telling people their cars needed repairs, which they did not. Happened to me, tried to tell me a car needed to have the front end rebuilt, front end was in great condition.
Sears... Mounted my gf lug nuts so tight we could not remove them.
Firestone.. Grand beecture bubbled on side.. Tried to tell me that was normal and I insisted a replacement... Manager wanted to fist fight
Not to mention Jiffy Lube. They went all out and scammed people big time, so much I'm surprised they are still in business...
I am a part time walmart auto tech, and I have a few things to say about this!
First, the laziness. I work part time at a rural walmart while I attend university full time (they are super flexible with my schedule and I was offered over $13/h which is much better than I had found around my university). of all my co-workers I am the only one that does not smoke and am often left by myself between jobs as they take breaks together so I can agree on this point...however, we have a stupid policy where we can not turn down any customer no matter how busy we are and also take customers on a first come first serve basis... so to the many ppl complaining about long wait times, there is physically no way to do the six 4-tire jobs that got there before you and then finish your job in a "reasonable" time when we only have 2 tire bays and crappy equipment...
The rules are VERY regulated... we have about 28 cameras that constantly record every step we take in the services we do... we get accused of "dents and dings" all the time, but when these customers realize that camera evidence proves we didn't damage thier property these people often immediately leave without a word then write bad reviews or come to these comment sections...if a walmart tech DOES damage the customers car in ANY way, it will be seen on camera and walmart will cover ALL of the charges...I have seen this twice in my 1 year working there, and it was lugstuds shearing on 30 year old cars when being torqued to spec...
About the batteries... as a chemistry major it really annoyed me when I saw my "experienced" co-workers calling a low-volt or discharged battery a bad battery based solely on voltage output or amp output. We have a very good charging machine that does an in depth charge and load analysis to test the quality of battery, but from what I have seen, most of the techs are too lazy to actually carry the battery to the station to do the PROPER test and just rely on thier interpretation of volt measurement from our crappy handheld testers. My managers did this all the time too...(so I guess if you want to scam walmart, drain your warranted battery before getting it tested lol) at least at my walmart I had to explain the issue with judging a battery by its voltage to my managers using basic chemistry as a way to save money as a department haha....
About the tires! We have an annual meeting with goodyear engineers( that's right, engineers not salesmen) that teach in depth properties of tread pattern and bad tire wear...on top of that our system MAKES us enter whether or not the old or current tires are worn improperly...this isnt that complicated of a concept...any child can see if tread is smoother on one side of the tire or scalloped from bad shocks...we dont do alignments, but refer cars to alignment shops every. single. day... so I disagree with scotty on this one...
Anyway, there are a lot more things, so feel free to ask me anything!!
@@thatoneperson4475 hey! I just went to my nearest walmart and asked to speak with the manager of the Auto Care Center. I basically introduced myself and asked if he needed more manpower. I was basically hired on the spot (I still had to do the annoying online application, but the manager was super chill) ....as it turned out, that walmart had lost a few employees and were in desperate need of help Haha.
In other words, for me it was very easy... but I also had novice tractor mechanic experience.
Do you think walmart does ok oil changes?
Thank you for making this video. I am so glad my guys are actual ASE certified I took them from dealerships and the Military they do a great job and go above and beyond letting the customers know everything about their cars. I feel sorry for those guys that are making 11 an hour. I guess we do such a great job my guys make 15 starting off as the dealer starts them off at 12 an hour. I just sent this to all my guys to show them how customer feel about Walmart’s customer service. I’m doing the same thing Sam Walton taking care of my employees and my customers. Thank you again!!!
A friend of mine brought his Toyota to wally world for an oil change, they didn't put the O-ring in the oil filter and his motor seized up!
The gasket was probably missing when they shipped the case the filter was in. It's supposed to come already attached to the filter. But we're also supposed to lubricate the gasket with oil prior to installing it, so it should have been caught at that point.
If the oil pressure light comes on, it's on for a reason. Shut the engine off. Engines should have a low pressure shutdown switch which should automatically shut the engine off to prevent a damaged engine due to loss of oil.
@@dannyo6699 I agree with everything you're saying. This was quite a few years back when Toyota had come out with the T-100. He didn't tell me , I'm assuming he didn't shut it off because he wanted to make it back up the mountain where he lived which was about 80 miles from the city where he got the oil changed.
You should see the technicians they hire at the Pep Boys in CA. No worse than Walmart but charge more.

Minimum pay, minimum effort. You pay employees right, you’ll get better service.
You are hella right
But how can you pay employees well if everyone wants low prices?
@@linkskywalker5417: less employees.
The workers who hustle -- pay them.more because they're worth it. They'll make up for the former employees who are standing in the unemployment line.
Bit of a chicken and egg think there. You've got a man...he shows up 3 minutes late everyday, pushes the limits on breaks, when you work with him if 7 things need to get moved from A to B you end up always moving 4 of them. Guy's always complaining about the man, the job and the pay. Now double his pay overnight, think he's really going to start singing a different tune? The more work you can get out of a man has more to do with the man than what he gets paid. Now I'm sure wally world could pay better but doing a poor job at work is a fast track to nowhere. You show up a bit early everyday, smile and give your best effort you'll start to get noticed 'cause you look like an eagle next to the turkeys you work with. And if the boss don't/won't take notice the door is ------> Find somebody who will.
Why do I get such a kick out of watching him RING THAT BELL?

Same experience here!
I bet they left the old ring in and it's leaking between the old one and the new one
They overfilled my civic. I took it back and they drained it and refilled it but no leaks.
When I had my Explorer I bought Goodyear tires at Walmart and it was buy 3 get 1 free, saved over $150.
