Kudos to MRS JT! Great shooting of THE JT making his video - wonderful seeing how supportive she is of him and railfanning in general - How lucky JT is having such a fantastic support family
Now that grade crossing is INSANE. I love the way you shot that: catching the old crossing lights with the train and newer crossing lights in the background; panning the loco as it glides by; then showing that old signal get knocked down. You really composed that well. I could watch those old red crossing lights fading in and out endlessly; they are so superior to the crappy new LEDs that it's not even close (same for the old crossing bells too). JT will circle the globe to bring us awesome LIVE ACTION!!! Thanks man!
The diamond crossing in the middle of a 4-lane highway is something I have never seen before. Thank you for finding this location, Jaw Tooth, and for taking these night videos for our enjoyment. The other train videos were also a treat. The Triple B Bar Reserve was a place filled with a lot of fantastic wild like. Thank you for adding the Triple B Bar Reserve to this video.
Glad you enjoyed it Thomas! That is my new favorite wildlife reserve. That place is just teaming with wildlife. It is amazing. I can't wait to return. We went there on two different days. I saw a heron catch a fish and used its beak like a spear. That was interesting
If you are still in Florida, consider going east on 528 (The B or Beachline Expy). Along 528 heading east, there is a brand new rail line (The Brightline Train) running parallel to to it. Take 528 east to US1 (Cocoa). This is where the new line joins the Florida East Coast Railroad and heads to Miami. Exit and head south on US1. Another cool thing about the Florida East Coast Railroad, is they have GE ES4400 locomotives that run using LNG. Not diesel. It comprises of two GE ES4400 locomotives with a tender filled with LNG between them. Never thought I'd see the day where modern locomotive using fuel tenders.
BNSF experimented with LNG/LPG tenders in the '90s and decided it wasn't worth it. It gives a cleaner exhaust in the sense of less particulates (i.e., soot) which is good if you're running in urban areas, which FEC are and BNSF mostly doesn't. I think JT has filmed the FEC LNG locomotives on a previous trip to Florida. They're dual-fuel, by the way -- they can still run on diesel, too.
Jaw Tooth, glad you and your wife had great vacation and love the train and wildlife Videos, so very awesome. Thank you both so very much. I have not been done in Florida since 1988, We used to go to Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, and West Palm Beach. Florida is a great place to live except during hurricane Season which runs from June 1st to December 1 st., Thanks again Jaw Tooth and wife.
I want to thank you for going to my home town. I'm originally from Lakeland and now I live in the Metro Detroit area. Every place you were in Lakeland and Mulberry I know except for your hotel area. Thanks for making an old man homesick. Lol
Very cool! Maybe I will get back up to Detroit area soon also. I do have a couple of sites up there that I want to film. Lakeland is one of my favourite places to wait for trains. I wish I could have seen it in the 70s
Starting Monday morning with a JT video. Great coverage of Florida trains. That area by the diamond needs more street lights. You're right, it's way too dark, you can hardly see the trains going over the diamond. That's not your fault. I love hearing the trains going over the diamond. Anyway, great video and have a nice day 😊🌈
Lots of interesting catches many of which. you can't see at home. Even at night the rock dust highlights the cars in phosphate service and the trains hauling the finished product are truly used car lots. Mrs. Tooth hasn't lost her photo skills. Glad to see you've had good weather and while the Nature Center animals are interesting to visit the ones that await you at home are more loving
Awesome location Jawtooth! Love the night shots, trains have always had a cool eeriness to them for me at night! Glad your having a great vacation down there! Thanks for sharing all the cool stuff!
As a truck driver that hauls phosphates out of the Mosaic plant on CR 640, I’ve seen two trains use that crossing in the afternoon…backs traffic up in all directions because the intersection of FL 37 and FL 60 is about 100 feet north of the diamond. Wish I would’ve seen you there!!! I would’ve blasted the horn and waved!
That CXS line paralleling FL60 is mostly phosphate in those High-Top hoppers like you say… A lot goes to the Port of Tampa for a shipping terminal there… And the rail line that runs along Phosphate Blvd, the other track at your Diamond, is usually local freight… I’ve delivered off Prairie Mine Rd before and seen Locals moving freight there… And been around the Winston Wye Old and New Tampa Highway too… Circle Bar B is fantastic for watching wildlife! (Was a closed after Ian for a while) You got some great shots there too! Saw a heron catch and eat a snake, and a turtle digging a nest to burry eggs in addition to the gators and birds… Thx JT!
That rail diamond has to be the strangest diamond I’ve seen , In the middle of a 4 lane highway, you certainly have a knack for finding cool places like this one, those phosphate cars were different too. Be mindful of those gators, wouldn’t want norphie or chessie getting to close. Enjoy your he sunshine state JT. And thanks.
I have spent many hours train watching at the “Y” where you were on Old Tampa Highway. Just south is Winston Yard. Back before security was such an issue my son & I used to visit the yardmaster at the tower. Those were good ol’ days! That was back in the late 80’s & early 90’s. We were up in the tower one day when several “masters” were there. Son was asking questions when this one “master” asked him if he was considering the railroad for a career. Son told him yes & then the speech started. Master said, “anyone in this room or down on the yard will tell you the ‘magic wears off d####d fast’”. He then asked son what position he was interested in & of course son replied ‘engineer’. Master said, “that’s great if you want a gut full of ulcers & never being home”. It was very memorable experience for both of us!! 😊
You got a great alibi going for ya being out of OHIO...'The Derailment State'. (all of us). The 'gators there near you on the golf courses wear Izod La Coste Polo Shirts with a little embroidered golfer logo over the left breast pocket. Be sure to yell... 'FORE' before trying to retrieve your ball. The flying bugs aren't too bad this time of the year. A small grain buckshot should do the trick. At least at night you can more easily see their red, green and white strobe lights. Big shout out to Señora Jaws. Nice fotos... bien hecho, Señora. Gracias por tu video. RT sends, Puebla, México... And, so the Florida snake was in a hurry to see his girl, tried to cross, lost part of his tail to the locomotive. He then turned around to retrieve it. Got his head cut off. Moral? Don't lose yer head over a piece of tail.
If you check out the current Google Earth satellite image of that diamond (I looked it up on 3/13/2023) it captured a four engine, 61 car daytime train with the lead engine right at the diamond, heading south.
Wow. I hate i missed you in Mulberry. I've lived most of my 79 years with in ear shot of that diamond. FYI they did a tie replacement on the Bone Valley sub through Mulberry a couple weeks earlier.
Bonus day! We get to see JT in action getting those superb videos first hand :) Florida is very cool and I have seen a bunch of trains (freight and Amtrak) in and around Plant City. A nice place to visit :) Stay alert for those gators!
Nice streamers of Spanish moss in those trees. When I lived in Texas, it was not uncommon to see gators on the side of the road sunning themselves on state highway 35 between Aransas Pass and Port Lavaca. Nice videos from both of you, and thank you Miss the videos of Norfie and Chessie. Steven in Gresham, Or via San Antonio, TX (hometown). God bless.
CSX was completing extensive curfew work during day shift across the Bine Valley, one of the reason you didn’t see many trains moving during daylight hours. The Ridgewood plant that line feeds also don’t get nearly as many cars as New Wales which is about 15 minutes away to the south.
My mom use to own a home in the Bone Valley and I saw daylight trains a lot but that was before I started my channel. I do have a few though that I posted from Bowling Green and near Bartow
Shoutout to Mrs. Tooth! Her first video is the FIRST time I ever actually saw a "log" car! I had a model train as a kid that had a car carrying "logs"; it had its own special track section you'd stop the car on, then push a button to activate it and it would side-dump the logs. Dang that was fun.
Old Lionel model? There are a few channels for that on UA-cam, so you'll probably be able to see the exact car. I remember seeing one of a refrigerated box car that would stop next to a plaform and load/unload milk churns.
Awesome diamond video Jawtooth you really did it it's Norfolk Southern vs. CSX in Mulberry is a run for their currency everytime they cross the four rail sighting.

That's a nice area where you went to. Loved the animals you saw, be careful around the lakes though. An elderly woman met her fate with an alligator by walking too close to the water
The signal in the Old Tampa Hwy, Lakeland segment is wonky. Blinking 7,6 then 5 times then going completely blank for a moment, as the video went on. Totally noticeable at the end as the signals should remain lit until the gates are all the way up. Love this video, especially the diamond.
I moved to the Mulberry area about half a year ago One can tell by the tracks that the area was commercially busy decades ago. AMTRACK goes through Mulberry. The number of rails is quite surprising. There was a diamond in the road in North Yarmouth Maine. (Haven't been there in 50 years.) North Road I think.
I could see where a lot of railroad lines had been removed in that area. There are some bike trails and dirt lanes. Sad to see them go. Amtrak takes the line from Auburndale, through Lakeland to Tampa.
