Being a genius doesn't mean that you know everything. Genius is simply taking the typical and making it exceptional. It's the ability to look at something that others might see as a simple rock and seeing a diamond. Whether you know how to build computers from the ground up or can multiply four digit numbers in your head isn't the issue. If you don't have the vision for what you could do with those gifts you are not a genius no matter how high the IQ. What separates the geniuses from your everyday people isn't always intellect, its insight ,vision, motivation, and self-driven support. Potential is all around and genius is simply that. It's taking the things that interest you whether it be a gift you have personally or someone you know and supporting it no matter how crazy you look . If you can See the potential in yourself and others, building upon them, never giving up until the ordinary becomes extraordinary you are a genius.
Wrote that down in my notebook. Great quote
Genius dont mean that knows everything but it is a person who will get to know everything very curious and good intelligence
A beautiful mind should have been top one
Yes buddy, it should be .
I thought Limitless was pretty good too, but yeah it's hard to topple the masterpiece that is Good Will Hunting.
why is no one complaining over Despicable me???????????
Røgmar Jimenez dude, he stole the moon, he's a genius
one of the best lead character ever
u need to see the 'movie' if u want to talk logic dont see it
A Beautiful Mind should've been first, Russell Crowe's performance as John Nash is just pure perfection
I agree--Crow definitely deserved the Academy Award for his protrayal of Nash.
Christine Dunn OOps Crowe.
Yes, excluding the fact that Russell Crowe was so physically dissimilar from Nash that the role might as well have been given to Michael Jordan, the acting was decent.
Why the hell are fictional geniuses included
i thought that when i saw Max from Pi, but who are we kidding that was a great movie
#1 The man who knew infinity
#2 Imitation Game
#3 A beautiful mind
agreed
Yes this are
and the theory of everything
agree, but i'll add 21 for modern movie :D..
Imitation game
where is 'The Imitation game' based on Alan Turing
+INDU BARAN MANDAL agreed
Check the upload date..
+Chris Hernandez hmm got it
+INDU BARAN MANDAL i am expecting it on the top and whooolahhhh Back to the Future... crap! The Imitation Game one of the best movie that portrayed Genius!
Look at the date this was uploaded
The Man Who Knew Infinity and The Theory of Relativity are for me the greatest films I ever watched as I am fellow of Science and Mathematics these two really ignite my mind.
As of 2017 I think the list would include Alan Turing in The Imitation Game, Stephen Hawking in the Theory of Everything and I would also move John Nash up the list and Steve Jobs further down.
No Alan Turing?
I’d have liked a lot of the fictional characters to be replaced with real people, I find their genius much more compelling in a story.
Where are the imitation game & the theory of everything?!
I was thinking the same thing too...
This video was uploaded 5 years ago, before Theory of Everything and Imitation Game were released.
You have to be kiddin me. Hannibal Lecter, Bruce Wayne, David Helfgott, John Baptist Grenouille, Zatoichi, Ip Man.
Wayne's not a genius he's just RICH!
***** no
***** but here we are talking about movies
No live action movies potray batman/bruce wayne as a genius. in TDK trilogy lucius fox is the genius behind his gadgets. The only other worth a mention is michael keaton and he's no genius in those
Rajat Kumar you must be joking right ?
i must admit rdj was great choice for sherlock holmes
maybe not, i prefer cumberbatch
cumberbatch is better
Lol I pretty much agree with the whole list butI honestly don't remember Gru being that much of a genius.
u know is a shit genius list when u see ashton kutcher on top of it.
Why would it be? The guy is a very successful investor in several high technology startups and was a product engineer for Lenovo. I don't say he's a genius, but probably a lot smarter than most of the population.
Actually, he is a genius, he has a certified IQ of 160, have a look online; there are a couple of actors you wouldn't have thought are geniuses but are.
Powder from "Powder", Raymond from "Rain Man", Chris and Mitch from "Real Genius", Data from ST:TNG, Paul from "The Manhattan Project", George from "Phenomenon"
Yes. Very good suggestions. Mine was going to be Chris Knight from Real Genius. Such a fun character.
I love it when in movies people say that "We have to use LIGHTNING to power the thing!" Lightning is a very, very impractical and inefficient energy source. You'd be better waiting thirty years to get back to the future.
I agree with John Nash, one of my few idols. He was, and is, a brilliant man. But...What's with the rest of the list? Where's Stephen Hawking? Or Kim Peek?
stephen hawking was never potrayed in a movie and kim peek, is that rainman? i agree with that, rainman was a megasavant probably the smartest man ever
There was a film that portrayed Stephen Hawking, as amr said, and yes, Kim Peek is Rainman. I agree with you completely. Probably the smartest person to have ever lived.
+Taylor Jordanbujuy
...Huh?
Taylor Jordan what movie potrayed stephen?
1.The Man who knew infinity
2.A beautiful mind
3.Imitation game
4.Good will hunting
"It comes before Atari in the phonebook." ROFLLLLLLLLL
That movie " Ronin" with Robert Deniro , while a excellent wiseguy in Scorcese films, had me laughing throughout as a expert criminal of sorts .
Steve Jobs made the list but ALAN TURING didn't? Yeah, very accurate.
There have been movies on Alan Turing before The Imitation Game actually. Although you might have a point because except few Turing enthusiasts people probably haven't even heard of them. Still, what I wanted to say is there are geniuses that should have been mentioned rather than Bill Gates.
+Ada Pieńkowska You need to do some research on Tony Stark!
never saw the movie...but i think russel crowe is on to something with that theory
FarzadADI should have won the oscar
read the book first/instead...
Tinder
Steve Jobs was not a genius just a good business man who knew how to use words...
Fl0yt dumbest thing i've heard
electricLadyland I would categorize genius in two ways Einstien and Steve Jobs. Einstien is the smart genious one who can do calculus in his head or come up with great ideas. This is what most people think of when they think of a genius. Steve Jobs type of genius is the one that is the most interesting because these types of genius are always hated. This is because they rise to power or acquire wealth which most people would consider is mean or unethical. But wake up this is life anything is fair and these types of people understand that in real life anything goes and the emotions are to be kept aside when doing business. Steve jobs was able to hoist a multi million doallar company without a solid education or any skill set. He used his common sense, vision, and more importantly his genius to bring about a company. His methods were cruel and he was kind of a douche but in buisness if ur not a douche u will never make it big or really anywhere. People gotta learn to not be soft and steve jobs did not care about ur emotions and future. He used people and knew how to, I think thats genius.
currymonster That's called being a crooked bastard.
lonerider92 hey man its is being a crooked bastard but that is business.
lonerider92 ok think of it like this any body can be a crooked bastard and stupid as shit. but steve jobs first off all aint stupid he know what the masses or public likes. He understood the need for beautiful design and simplicity to appeal to he masses or the public, who by the way are stupid. Furthermore, he was a crooked bastard, sure, but he knew when and where to use it to get to the top. a lot of people hate those who get to the top by lying, being mean, unfair, and most of all crooked bastards, but those people are jealous. they are jealous because they cannot put aside their morality and guilt. dont get me wrong its good that u realize steve jobs did some bad things to get to the top but then again he is laughing his way to the bank and well most of us struggle to pay our checks. at the end of the day he wins he is the real genius. i sound like douche here lol but its the sad truth the world is cruel and u have to be smart enough and cruel enough to get through it. I proclaim these people as genious, and also people liek einstien and tesla
excuse teh terrible grammer and stuff i am lazy to make any changes
Gru from Despicable Me? Did I read that right?
2:55 - Game theory at its best
John Nash #1
+Noman Hasan Nop
***** Un homme d’exception
***** N'est pas un homme d'exception ?
Tu l'as vu au moin ? :p
***** Quel langue parlez vous ?
Will Hunting is a good Movie ,But this Genius doing nothing ...This is not really smart
Yeah, number 1 and 2 are respectively perfect. At first I was like "WTF!? Tony should be number 1! Then they showed number one and I was like "Oh....never mind."
Peter Parker, Orson Welles (RKO 281), Charles Chaplin (Chaplin...RDJr again!), Batman, Spock, Doctor Who (and the Daleks)
A Beautiful Mind was amazing
You should watch "The Man Who Knew Infinity" and then make the list again.
haha laughed at number one, but it's rightfully there
Funny kinda movie!!!😂😂😂
I love Christian Bale in "The Big Short", 'cause I like genius that are also weird and original.
John Nash #1 for me!
Well they left out "The man who knew Infinity" about Ramanujan.
bobby fischer
pawn sacrifice
"Amadeus" - 1984 and "Immortal Beloved" - 1994 are 2 movies that should have been on your list.
For all those Lazy bums out there,
#10 - Apocalypse Now (1979)
#9 - The Wizard of Oz (1939)
#8 - Gone with the Wind (1939)
#7 - The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
#6 - The Dark Knight (2008)
#5 - Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
#4 - Psycho (1960)
#3 - Pulp Fiction (1994)
#2 - Citizen Kane (1941)
#1 - The Godfather (1972)
Honorable mentions :
- Back to the future (1985)
- Casablanca (1942)
- On the Waterfront (1954)
- LOTR : The return of the king (2003)
- Metropolis (1927)
_If anyone cares My top 10 would definitely include Inception and Usual Suspects _
Batman's a hero, but definitely not a genius. Even the amount of times he gets outsmarted and double crossed in the movies would tell you that
1.good will hunting 2.beautiful mind.
Darth Sidius. Sorry, no list is complete without him. Honestly the smartest character in cinema
Moriarty is missing...
Job's "tubby friend" is Steve Wozniak, without him there would be no Apple, but Steve was a marketing genius, and there is no debate there, he brought his zen ways of life into his business. That being said, I'm a PC person.
what about Now You See Me!!!!
The only one that truly deserves to be on the list; John Nash.
As John Nash and "Beatiful mind" are real genius and the portrait of a real genius on the screen.
The other ones a "watch and forget " films based on non real facts and mediocre quality.
i know this was made before the imitaion gaming, but i think alan turinng could be apart of this list
Jason Bourne? I think he is a very resourceful genius...and a killing machine of course
A beautiful mind is my favorite:)
Excuse me everybody. But you seem to have forgotten one of the best. Stephen Hawking in the "Theory of Everything."
where is man who know infinity
Job's tubby friend was the true genius behind the everything, jobs just marketed the computer
Gru isn't a genius. He doesn't even make his gadgets -_-
Mozart from "Amadeus" was pretty damn smart.
What about rain man??
A beautiful mind is honestly one of the best movies i have ever seen
steve jobs was not a genius...
Syfiewow you can say that again!
Syfiewow oh realy you are the genius
Harvey Alexander
*really
minhas mazhar I don't live on attention. I don't have a vagina!
Rage Blanket d
Jamal Wallace from Finding Forrester, Gordon Gekko of Wall Street, and Hannibal Lecter should have made this list
Finding Forrester, heck yeah! Loved that movie.
despicable me? iroman? back to future winner? seriusly? pfff what a idiotic top ¬¬
This reminds me to watch the whole trilogy of Back to the Future again.
GOOD WILL HUNTING..
The best movie
Christian Niessen "This is not your fault"...
you can now count Bobby Fischer in too.. thanks to "pawn sacrifice" movie..
Jobs instead of Mark Zuckerberg... really?
Both stole the ideas from others and made money from it. You can interchange the characters, it doesn't matter.
TheVariableConstant Zuckerberg is a coding god
Steve Jobs was an entrepreneur, Mark Zuckerberg was an entrepreneur AND a genius. I think that means more.
Anav Sawhney Zuckerberg a coding god? My, my, my. What has this world come to.
I'm with Keelan. Zuckerberg's an asshole, but he's a clever asshole. Jobs was just a thieving git. No genius there at all.
Although now I think about it, I don't think either of them should be on the list.
P.s. what the hell is gru doing on that list?
Best part of the video
Robert Downey Jr -Sherlock Holmes 😎 and Tony Stark 😎
no rainman?o ok...
stupid ass jack
You should replace Gru with Professor X :)
Pi is a brilliant film
Terry Silvester one of my all time favs Terry
totally agree with you man. Bruce wayne is always no. 1. he's like the perfect man both physically, intellectually and his bordeline insane thirst for justice.
A beautiful Mind is the odd one out in this list. Quite contrary to the title of the video rest all are fictitious characters.
See #3
You mean number 4
the title never said anything about the characters being fictitious just thaat they were portrayed in movies.
and steve jobs is no fictitious.
A Beautiful Mind is also based on a true story, in this case John Nash.
"Little Man Tate" can really be solved orally - A number when divided by the product of its digits gives 3 and when 18 is added to the number, the number gets reversed.
X: (10a + b)/ab=3
Y: (10a + b + 18) = 10b + a
Solve Y, you get: b = a + 2;
So you have only 7 possibilities: 13, 24, 35, 46, 57, 68 & 79.
If you look closely, the only viable option is 24 according to X. Oral question.
zuckerberg?
Zoidberg
Jobs and Beautiful Mind were brilliant!
I'm here to try to be smart! :(
he was marketing genius. people might think he stole others idea. but he only implemented them in a way people would get interested. I would consider a person genius if he can gather geniuses, give them ideas, and help create a company that became giant after decade.
RDJ wins, 2 appearences
Yep. A genius will always be the perfect choice to portray other geniuses.
Mariam Attallah oh and sorry; I didn't know genius's do jail time??
hey just keep diggin....
Since you're doing fictional characters what about "Mega Mind"?
Jobs was a terrible movie wasn't it? WTF
yes it was, but this list wasn't top 10 movies, it was top 10 movie geniuses
Håvard Nesje Yeah but the way Jobs was represented was also just wrong.
Jamming InDaStreets I can agree with that, but I rest my case
so is this based on their levels of intelligence? How is Jobs smarter than John Nash?
A Beautiful Mind should have been the top movie and it won the awards. I can see why too .
Where the hell is L ? :D
Steve Jobs was so smart he ignored doctors who said... "Um.... you might want to get that checked out" and offed himself. Wicked Smart
hermione granger from the harry potter series?
NO.
Where is Hermoine Granger? B Rab (8mile), Dr. Octavius pr octopus (spiderman2), Professor X, Dexter from Dexters Lab, Jimmy Neutron, and The nutty professor?
Where is Neo?
The man who knew infinity - dev patel, Jeremy irons
Had forgotten this one. Definitely should be on the list.
This whole thing is shit, how can u put great shows like a Beautiful mind, Limitless and Sherlock Holmes so far and put something like Iron man ahead of all these great shows Tony Stark is a Genius but it focuses more on being a super hero than a genius and how different they see the world this shit is more based on favorites than truth.
How was steve jobs up there. He was simply the face of apple and wanted to change things around. Wozniak was the real brains of everything.
steve jobs is NOT a genius. smart but not a genius
He was a cult leader. That is all.
where is the movie powder ??? it should be number one...The film is about Jeremy "Powder" Reed, who has an incredible intellect, as well as telepathy and paranormal powers. The film questions the limits of the human mind and body while also displaying society's capacity for cruelty, and raises hope that humanity will advance to a state of better understanding.
not a single women in list ?! just vow...
Triggered
Bruce Wayne is one should be on the list, but the biggest forgotten genius in movie is ALBERT EINSTEIN in I.Q. (1994) starring Walter Mathau! Movie Clips even have the clips
All the geniuses are men... hmm I wonder if a man or woman put this together..
+Jessica Benhamou
well, studies have shown that although men and women iqs have approximately the same mean, men iqs are more volatile, resulting in a much higher percentage of people with very high iqs (say above 150 or 160) being men
the same is true for very low iqs though
It's just a list. You can make your own if you don't agree with it.
+Jessica Benhamou Back in the day women were busy with other stuff?
Your mother must be so proud of you.
That's also a fair point. Only one in ten UK directors are women, unfortunately. We need more diverse stories.
John Nash should have been one I mean he created the equilibrium theory
Not one is a woman. Just sayin...
I noticed that too. But Hollywood slants male. It's not like they have any movies on Hedy Lamar or Marilyn Vos Savant or Ada.
YEA BUT BEHIND JOHN NASH AND STEPHAN HAWKINGS SUCCESS IT WAS THEIR WIVES. THEY NEVER LEFTHEM ALWAYS SUPPORTED THEM (idk about the others)
There's a difference between being considered a genius and being portrayed as a genius, Jobs is the later
Tony Stark? Ironman really?
Ironman sucks
And choose the right sherlock holmes next time. If you know what Im sayin
I personally believe being genius is not just about being a mathematician or physicist or a knowledge person of science or economic..... Jason Bourne he should be on the list...
well being able to run faster than anyone or play on the guitar faster than anyone doesn't make you a genius, the key or being a genius is stated more or less adequately above, by A curious college kid , Jason Borne is a highly trained professional, knowing what to do in most situations, he barely qualifies as a genius in any perspective.
They didn't say how they pick the top 10 tho.. maybe the point is not how much of a genius they are, but how lovable. Still Jobs wouldnt have made it into the list.
Jobs is actually out in select theaters and critics got to see the film a while ago.
The man who created so many genius 'toys' absolutely a genius, just like Jobs with his Apple's Gadgets.
he didnt let his kids use his own inventions
Gru? seriously?
Oh, we not doing real life geniuses?
In descending order: John Nash, the guy from Pi, Sherlock Holmes, Tony Stark, 1.21 jigawatz... and here the list devolves.
