I listen to this speach in its entirety (about an hour long) by Gen Welsh regularely at least once a year, being a serving member of the Royal Danish Airforce ! I have NEVER heard a more inspirational speach than the one he delivered here !!
This is a great speech. I never met him, but have served together at Hill AFB at the same time with him. He was promoted to Lt. Col. at that time. His style is different from every other officer I ever knew. His expectations seem simple. Treat people well, Know your mission. Act with integrity. Why is it so hard to find leaders like this?
Why is it so hard to find leaders? Because the the military punishes hard charging leaders who shake up lazy units. Piss off certain people and they will complain until the commander gets removed with no proof but lots of lies.

Thank you this story reminds me a lot of my father and grandfather to have respect for yourself and for others and when you hurt someone feelings my grandpa would show me the garden I'd have to clean the weeds and thorns from the garden without gloves as my punishment. And to listen to there stories and respect them for everyone has a story.
Very good speach. A leader that all officers need to inspire to be. Our current pool of O-6 Colonels are horrible and only looking for Flag Grade at the expense of Airmen of the wing. In my 35 years, our Air Force needs help; people and true leaders. Right now we are in the mist of shity leadership across all grades... with ZERO personal responsibility.
