It is with great pleasure that I present the nearly 18 minute monster that is This Is Stargate Universe. It's been a long road but I am finally done and I could not be happier with the finished product. I hope that all of you enjoy it as much as I do!

Absolutely the best sci-fi sitcom since the first Star Trek. Netflix please bring SGU back.
Truly an epic series. I have no doubt, had it lived on; would’ve been the crowning achievement of the entire franchise. I watch it every six months or so, and still find tiny things I’ve missed.
I would have to agree with you. I adore SGU and firmly believe it to be the stand out best of the franchise.
12 years later, this does a wonderful job of showing just how great this series was. I've watched the DVD set of both seasons and the thought and time everyone put into this show was just excellent.
I miss this show quite a lot. It had it's issues, but I maintain that season 2 shows that it is/could have been, the best of the three.

A very special series, made more so again by SGU it was one of the most powerful stories...but most fans on syfy network couldnt see it, not even i could at the time. Now, looking at it again, watching each episode one after the other -- its truly special. I wanted to do a tribute project too, thank you these videos! it encourages me!

@Mikolaj Kraszewski True, at times the drama felt like it was just trying to be something that the original series, just..was not lol and I did prefer the lighter heart of the original series, which did not take away from the epicness thought
I agree, very special. And unfortunately, got off on the wrong foot. Too many early episodes were so slow, focusing on the very basics of survival aboard the ship. Then the Lucian Alliance returns. I really wish they'd been left out of it. What people really wanted to see was new worlds, new aliens, new tech... new possibilities. And that did come later, but unfortunately too late for the fans. SG1-SGA fans never gave it a chance. It's a tragedy, because SGU had so much potential. So much more ship to explore, tech to discover. I really hope there's a follow-up series that reconnects with Destiny.
A wicked video. Can't believe I haven't seen it til now. Thank You....I'd forgotten just how much promise this show had. I feel like Stargate grew in all sorts of ways with SGU. What a shame there was so little faith from the owners, not a single pair of balls between the lot of them.

This show really anticipated the styles of amazing shows such as The Walking Dead and The Man in the high Castle or all the shows on Netflix. I still feel deeply terrible for the cancellation of SGU. Actors, visual effect, cinematographer, plot. they are all outstanding. It feels like the world wasnt ready for this. Thanx for making this video. ありがとう

I am hopeful that Stargate Origins will reboot the Stargate Franchise. Nothing will truly replace SGU, but I think the world needs more Stargate.
All these years later im still seeing repeats on tv......and it's still my favorite series ever.

I finished watching SG Universe today for the third time in my life (1. On TV in German, 2. On DVD in German, 3. On DVD in French). I' m very amazed by this and all your other videos. Thank you for them! This video is perfect after finishing the series and have a flashback over the whole series from the beginning on. Man I miss SGU. I miss the Stargate universe in general. If I had free reign over the franchise to start it anew I would make a sequel to SGU to start with to wrap up all the cliffhangers and unanswered questions then honestly I would put up polls on what the fans both old and new want to see then compare those results to what's left within the canon universe to explore, I mean of course you can always make up new planets, species and characters so long as you have development of both characters and an intriguing plot line with memorable moments

I know this is a 4 year old comment. But there is alot of hope for SGU. Out of any Stargate shows they could continue (With Brad Wright obviously) Stargate Universe has to be it.

The Drones are one of my favourite sci-fi antagonists because they are purely machine. No maliciousness and no hate, just killing you and learning to overcome your survival because O comes after 1 :)
Ikr, one simple goal, kill everything that isn't themselves. A weapon/war machine gone wrong. Really wish we had more of this.

ShaggyUltraLounge they should continue with stargate, my idea is a story for SG-1 30 years in future... So with new actors... They also tell what happened to the destiny and what s with the atlantis spaceship and what they learned and earned from it, and what the new powers in the universe are...
It just needed better writing to at least to mix the tones as the show goes on but that would require both stargate and BSG writers.

Universe was a great show that was killed by progress. If it hadn't been for the advent of online services, it might still be going. It's tragic that it was cancelled so early into its run.

A shame this series got cancelled. I loved the premise. I had gotten tired of the monster of the week formula that SG1 and SGA had been doing..even though i liked those shows too. Probably their biggest mistake was make it too gloomy, not enough brevity.
i disagree because well i know that i cant go back and watch sg1 or sga because it is too predictable too the point that the dialogue feels shit and the fact none of the tech makes any sense even from there really shit descriptions in the show's
SGU is where they really tried to make the show more realistic it in the tech the gloomyness dissipated over time i personally liked the show alot

I miss this show. By far my favorite sci-fi show that is relatively new. Nothing was even close to being as dark or suspenseful.
4:00 to 5:40 is all from 1x14 and 1x15 called Human and Lost. It was a big 2 part story arc.
Stargate was and is my favourite of all sci fi. Stargate universes was absolutely the pinnacl for me. I had always hoped for more seasons. I will always be thinking of Eli alone on the Destiny. Always.
Seen every single Atlantis and stargate episode probably 5 times each now haha but never watched 1 or this series for some reason but this video has now made me want to go watch it? 40 episodes here I come
Enjoy! Season 1 can, for some, be a bit off putting. Personally I like it. That said, SGU season 2 is some of the best Stargate and Science Fiction there is. It’s very very good.
Absolutely superb in all regards, however since the creators basically promised us the answer for life universe and everything the cancellation meant to spare us an obvious letdown, and made the shows legendary status. Special nod for Joel Goldsmith, his soundtrack was something special for this show, he obviously grew up to his father.
SGU really was something special and it’s so sad people couldn’t see it. Then the cliffhanger ending. I wish they’d do a movie to tie up everything.
Outstanding video. Really miss that show. Cutting it down early was as great of a TV crime as cancelling Firefly.

I love SGU, it's actually my favorite of the three, the second season in particular is very good. That said, do keep in mind that I left out a rather large amount of meaningless filler and drama.

Im with you, I watched the first season, and it made me wonder why this video had likes. SGU was IMO terrible from what I saw

My god SGU had so much potential and the stories were just getting better and better during S2. Why SyFy canned it is beyond me. And I am so bummed they never tried to bring it back. I really think they should. If the story and the ideas were good enough I am sure all the major actors would be up for it.
They would not even need the entire cast. They have an existing way of explaining it, while slightly depressing. Some peoples pods could have failed and they died in the years they were crossing the void. In the time it took them to cross the void Earth found and set up a new Icarus planet, That way they can bring in new actors to replace the ones who did not want to come back. (replace with new characters, not recast obviously). They could even say that they knew the planet would explode after the connection so it was a one time deal. That way the "alone in deep space" feeling it not totally ruined.
Damn... haven't seen the show... first 5 mins are so good... RESIST
Definitely watch the show first. I spoil a great deal, that's kind of the point of the video. The show has it's flaws but it really is quite good.

funny how something so feeble as all the new star treks lasted heaps longer than SGU, this show had real grit.....a real sci fi.....and those fucking bean counters killed it..
Universe was by far best out of all (if we do not count original movie). I honestly could not believe when I heard that dumbass Syfy pulled the plug on it and left it on cliffhanger. What did they expect, when they placed it in worst possible time slot for broadcasting. But kept shitfest TV series in prime slots. See, this is how corporate management that is completely clueless ruins an unpolished gem.

Seriously, though. All of your tiSGX videos were great. I hated Universe when I first saw it, and while I still think they should have kept Atlantis for a few years, I've started to like it over time.
That seems to be a common opinion. I would have liked more seasons of both of the shows personally.
As for the time, the initial cut was over 20 minutes, I had to cut it down to fit the score and because the flow in the middle was just horrid. There are still a handful of parts that feel a little off but for the life of me I could not make them better without a complete rework of the section. I figured I had delayed long enough. =D
Taonas Yeah. They both kind of ended on cliffhangers (especially SGU), and it's sad to know that neither will be resolved any time soon (the SGA legacy novels helped a little in regards to Atlantis, but they also left a lot of unanswered questions of their own).
SGU's biggest problem was the first 5 or so episodes were done badly all the ones about Air where made in a terrible jumpcut like situation which just didn't work at all for 3 fucking hours the next 2 both also had there own problems but episode 6 is where they started turning it arround and making it better
i wish they continued the series because it was great

i personally find the air episodes shit because of how they jump between the future and the past constantly it is why the show failed because tons of fans saw the first 2 and just felt confused about it all because it didn't feel right
Stargate Universe deserves a movie. I doubt they'd be able to bring back much of the original cast, though. If they can't get Robert Carlyle to reprise Dr. Rush, then... it would be tough. My guess is, they'd have to dispense with the original crew. New SGC personnel come aboard, find no one, then discover the hibernation pod setup. All the pods are empty. The crew was either killed, abducted, or gated off to a world.

I am seeing an interesting result form doing a perfunctory analysis of two sets of videos. Taonas has done Ti videos for all three Stargate series, and Rowan J Coleman has done retrospective reviews for all three series. I'll put the results here as they currently stand, because due to the observer effect, my very posting plus the ever-present impact of internet trolling could impact these results down the road. (Hopefully these spacings will preserve):

We see that in the Ti series, SGA leads in views with SGU coming in at around only 10% fewer. In the retro reviews, SGU leads with more than 25% more views than SGA. The likes and dislikes are for the most part the same. The SG-1 review contains far more dislikes and fewer likes because the reviewer had the audacity to tell SG-1 fans that he thought SGA was the better series ;).
The conclusion I draw from this data is that more or less, the core fanbases love all three shows relatively equally. One thing that surprises me is that I would have thought that SG-1 would clearly lead in the numbers, since it seems to be the one that fans generally love most. There could be a few reasons to explain this. TiSG1 was Taonas' 1st video and he has stated (I believe) this wasn't his best effort because of lack of experience at the time. Or, maybe SG-1 fans are generally older and don't do UA-cam? There could be perfectly logical explanations. I hope that these findings help dispel the myth that SGU is the unwanted show that nobody likes. It may have been cancelled due to ratings originally (and due to MGM bankruptcy, the failed Nielsen system, internet piracy, a SyFY network trying to appeal to wrestling fans and not sci-fi fans and generally mismanaging the whole show buy constantly shifting its timeslot), but it has (or over time has developed) the same size core fandom that each of the other series have.
Interesting observation. I agree with your conclusion and I personally love all 3 shows the same, each has it's own strengths and weaknesses. I still morn SGU as I truly believe it could have become the strongest of the shows if given a full run.
To confirm, I have indeed stated that TiSG1 is the weakest of the three. When I was making it I was not really sure what kind of video I was working on and it was not intentionally the start of a video format. It was not until I was finished and some people started asking for one about SGA that I realized what I had stumbled on. I count my self lucky that it is as close to my Ti format as it is. Hopefully TiSG1 Extended Edition will flush out your data once I finish it and after it has been out for a while.

Actually, it has always been apparent that SGU was fairly well liked- looking at the numbers... It's just that the haters in this particular case were really loud and persistent which became a sort of feedback loop and generated an idea that those who liked SGU were in the distinct minority―but that is simply not true and never has been.
It's also refreshing to see someone who actually understands the various factors leading up to SGU's cancellation.
I also feel strongly that one of the initial reasons that fans weren't supporting it was because there was so much secrecy about it before premiering. Or maybe that's not the right way to express my thoughts…
Essentially, they should have included some dialog, in at least one scene of Atlantis just posing the question & idea about the 9th chevron. Putting that idea into the fans' mind, getting them to ignite their imaginations about it.
I believe if they had generated that interest ahead of time, which would have no doubt been discussed in forums and so on, the series would've had a much better chance for success and fans would've been much more willing to get through things they may not have liked as the show progressed.
Although, more than virtually any sci-fi series I've seen, they really came out with their A game from the pilot.
The set was stunning, the music on another whole level, the acting was poignant and compelling and I personally loved the story. I hated a lot of characters in the beginning, and how they acted. But watching them learn to survive and communicate and get along was actually one of my favorite aspects of the show.

I just realized that Universe was a very intelligent series (SG1 & SGA also are). Very much things happened in only 2 seasons... At the end of season 2 the tv show was getting a bit worse and kind of unrealistic but in overall the tv show is "very good". In comparison SG1 & SGA are better than "very good", they are "excellent" with honors, they are Epic & Legend.
That's an interesting perspective! The opinion that the the show was finally getting good in the 2nd half of the 2nd season is one that I've seen expressed often.
My opinion is that although there was were some mistakes and things that could've been better peppered throughout the series, as a whole it was all remarkably good. What we began to see in the 2nd season, especially that second half is really what was getting me excited about the stories to come and the amazing ideas they had in the pipeline, but that we missed out on....
Such an amazing series. I loved every bit of it, including the plot. Destiny was simply gorgeous.
But of course the morons at SyFy had to cancel it, just like the 6th season of Atlantis, killing most likely the only and last hope for Stargate franchise. I hope they'll pay one day for their mistakes - one way or another.
I heave been hearing rumors about MGM trying to get Brad Wright to pen a new series, will just have to wait and see.

I had an idea for a follow up show, in like 2015 they find a abandoned Asgard ship which can cross a galaxy in like 5 mins {Thor’s Bilisnikr could} and they hook it up to a few ZPMs and send it out to rescue the crew of destiny. Or just maybe use a lantean wormhole drive to get there

Great video! How did you remove the soundtrack from the voices? I know it's relatively simple to remove the voices from the soundtrack, but the center track also contains soundtrack.
gregthebaritone I actually did not remove anything. It's all done by carefully choosing dialogue that fits with the songs I use. In general I tweak the levels of both the music and the dialogue to blend together as best I can. There are a few clips where it was really difficult and the original background music is noticeable if you are listening for it, but in general, unless you know what the original song was, your brain will just sort of mesh the sounds together and assume it's what the song is supposed to sound like.

So that the receiving Stargate knows where the hell your are, and thus can create a wormhole between her position and your position. Just like when someone calls you and his phone number appears on your phone.
