my grandmother doesn't have a cottagecore apartment.. but okay. i think most grandparents have either a specific style they like and grow with, or they end up keeping fashion styles from time periods they grew up in. so if you're in your late 20's, your grandmother probably has the same printed couch you remember your entire life.. doesn't mean it's cottagecore though. i wish that was the case; i'd never leave my nan's.

Actually once when I went to pay the maintenance tax of the building I live on there was an old lady on the shop telling one of the managers that one of her neighbours was raising chickens in the balcony. She said the smell was nauseating and there was poop falling all the time, so...

No not really, Besides, the layout can be used as a bungalow. Very common in the UK. So it works whether as a bungalow/cottage or as an apartment, could be ground floor for all you know.

No this is actually perfect! The sim who lives here is an older lady who became a widow some 20 year ago. She's owned the apartment since 1940 so it's rent controlled. Her landlord is itching for her to pass away so he can finally make more money off the rent.

The curtains you're talking about, we call "net curtains". And yeah they're definitely needed in Sims
when mixing patterns in clothes it's common advice to put smaller patterns with bigger patterns and to not put different florals together......idk if its the same in furniture but I think this pack is an awesome chance to practice haha

When mixing patterns, floral on floral you'll want to mess with scale. Big floral + big floral is overwhelming. Big floral + ditzy floral is usually fine. Better still to go floral + plaid, floral + polka dots, or floral + stripes. Those simpler patterns are what quilters call "mixers." Another tip for mixing patterns is to keep it all in the same color family, since you're feeling hesitant about pattern mixing, maybe keep the background colors to white, yellow, or cream and you'll find it easier. You're really brave for stepping outside your comfort zone on camera and expressing that to everyone. Keep experimenting and you'll expand your comfort zone!

The fireplace thing, I always do it with the Cats & Dogs fireplace and one of the flat screens. It looks mounted and just *chef's kiss*.
A cool idea (if you didn’t do one yet like this) get a wheel with 1-10 or 1-20 or whatever. Then whatever number you land on that’s how many items you use in a room. Each room gets a different spin.
To add to a challenge you can include the wallpaper and floor as an item

video idea ? idk. you could try build a house where every room is based on a different animal. like one would be a fox, another a bunny. and you could use the spinny wheel thing to decide which animal for which room to make it harder
In the uk we tend to only put busy wallpaper on one wall (main wall) as like a feature wall and then paint the rest in a neutral or soft solid colour, you could try that to make the patterns work better for you :)
I feel exactly the same way with all the patterns. I spent an hour and a half making a new sim yesterday and then several more hours trying to build a tiny starter home. I changed the patterns of everything about a hundred times before I ended up going with solid colors LOL.
The thing with the patterns is pick only one thing to put patterns on. If you put patterned wallpaper on the inside of your house, then you should avoid patterns on furniture like couches, chairs, rugs, curtains, beds and other stuff. If you put patterned carpet on the floor of your bedroom, then the walls should be painted on solid color. This makes the room less exaggerated and busy, and helps you understand what's actually going on there. Kayla always have the pattern problem because she puts pattern everywhere, as you can see, for example, in the kitchen: there's patterned wallpaper with a patterned rug with a patterned chairs with a pattern tablecloth. It's not because the patterns are pretty that you have to fill the room with it so it looks pretty, and I'm saying all those things in the most helpful way, seriously.

Tbf, having an irl cottagecore apartment isn't as silly as you'd think! I have a very fairycore one myself and it's all about working on decorating it to get the feeling of a cottage, until you look out the window haha

Instead of totally closing off that former bathroom with platforms, once you have all your packs back, I would put a big get together walk in closet there. Like it’s the hall closet and most of the storage for this small apartment.
honestly i think it does fit the city living vibe, very nyc pre-war rent stabilized apartment that's been in the family for 50 years
I think one of the problems is the bed needs more stripes/checks/plaid options. That would allow the colors to match, but not cause excessive floral overload. Same for the rug.
It's cute trying different things with packs for instance using it for an apt bc it gives other options. However.... The chunk out of the kitchen hurts my soul. Who WANTS a smaller kitchen?!? 😂😂
Hey Kayla, I know you reviewed Twisted Mexi’s better build buy mod before, but I wanted to let you know it’s been updated so that builds are no longer marked as being cc when they aren’t when uploaded to the gallery!
The mod will be super beneficial to your builds and categorizes things in both debug and live edit to be found in appropriate categories. As I’m watching your latest video, you mentioned bringing a sim into the lot to change the lighting - the mod has been updated to include this feature in build mode!
I just wanted to let you know all this because I think it will benefit you, and could be a staple in your mods folder like MCCC and UI extension cheats, which I have in my game too.

my grandmas house had wallpaper when i was a kid. busy wallpaper in every room, so its kind of nostalgic. i doubt patterned walls were ever intended to be viewed from the top with no roof, all at once
