when i was 4 my parents rented this for me from the local library, i watched it and rented it so many times they library finally gave it to me. It was from this video that i learned my true meaning was to be a performer and make people laugh. I am now 20 years old and still have the original vhs of this, and i'm a full time performer doing what i learned in this video...making people laugh and smile
Isaiah Arpino damn this would be a good plot for joker 2
Congratulations! I hope to be like you. Maybe not a full time performer but a part time performer.
Im going to school to be a certified clown & do comedy.
@@grumpyguy112 Oh! Great for you! Hope it'll happen soon!
Yeah, just please if you get bullied don't go on a talk show with a bright suit
It makes me sad that clowning is quickly becoming a lost art in America. I remember as a young boy, all I ever wanted to be was a hobo clown after watching Red Skelton on my grandmother's VHS recordings.
I was shy at school, but when I got home I would spend hours testing various clown makeups, costumes, stunts, and props. I probably drove my parents crazy, but I wanted to be in the traveling circus so bad.
That dream was slowly diminished through a lack of support from parents, teachers, and the few friends I had.
Now, watching this film, I am overwhelmed with nostalgia, and my heart breaks when I learn that Ringling Bros. have shut their doors for good.
To all those clowns out there who work, and have worked to bring joy to millions, thank you!
We have them today it’s called a camera self fueled insanity. Tiktok. Influencers. Boom.
Lol you live in capitalism where 12 year on UA-cam is making more than you ever will in next 7 generation. Who’s the clown now?
@@Pyasa.shaitan I don’t disagree as my boomer grandfather is crying at the same datum and facet.
@@Pyasa.shaitan The fact that you took the time to respond to a 10 month old post on such a niche video for the sole purpose of being a troll makes me smile. Keep up the important work you do.
@@elitrask207 we all are clowns
Please don't delete this video. I watch it almost every day.

But your already a clown
Weird-Cat-Outside it’s you’re* who’s the clown now?
@@blake911 Ok clown :*)
Thanks for sharing this. I was actually in a clown group, that was trained by a lady that came from Ringling Bros. College. She was an amazing teacher. I loved being a clown and still have my costume, my papers, all my clowning gear, and makeup (although it's a bit dried out) lol. I still feel like part of her still lives inside me. Love to the clowns!
EDIT: Just noticed this was from 1987, I got my training in 1985, in WV. If the lady who came to a small little town in WV, in '85 sees this...You changed a lot of lives, especially mine.
I went to the Ringling Brothers Circus in 1988 when it was the 20 year anniversary of Clown College. They did a special recognition and the man who was head of the college at the time spoke and expressed his appreciation for everyone who supported it. Sadly, Clown College closed in 1997. There will never be another place like it.
Nice
When I was a kid, my dad and his friends made my sister and I dress as clowns and crash the local Easter parade. We were given a broom that could be used as an air guitar or as a prop to fake out people. There was horse shit in the street and we would act like we were going to sweep it on people. I remember one year I got separated from my dad and saw a group of pipers in kilts marching, some of them carrying rifles. I immediately put my broom on my shoulder and began marching alongside them. I cherish that memory .
Thanks for this. I was taking my 4 year old grandson to see the Ringling Bros circus and he was afraid of the clowns he said. So we watched this before we went and it helped him to see the clowns were not scary. Thank you for posting.
Exactly
Clowns are the best
Don’t let him watch “IT” might bring the fear of clowns back.
I don’t think there exists anything more wholesome
I'm going be in clown collage in a few more weeks
Hunter Windham we don’t know if you passed 6 years after.
Lol
Dedkmxs34 Clown Doctorate takes 9 years, duh
Congrats
i want to aswell
Thanks a lot TV. You just came along, and made loads of clowns lose their jobs because kids were too scared of them. Nice job.
Actually its because of it after that click bait youtubers kept on making video after video of creepy clowns and little kids would watch those videos and get scared so in a way its dumb parents letting their kids watch dumb videos on youtube and being uncultured swines
Also John Wayne Gacy is a contributor.
Grell Sutcliff I’m a kid. And I’m actually fascinated in clowns. Actually, I watch clown videos and draw clowns and draw clowns every day!
That wasn’t a error when I said draw clowns again. Like I said, I do it everyday!
Nope it's actually because they beat the animals
This brought back memories... I had watched this video when it first came out because I had always wanted to go to Clown College. My parents first took me to see the Ringling Bros. circus in 1970, and we went just about every year since throughout the 1970s. I never did make it to clown college, but as a kid, I did work as a clown for many backyard carnivals and used to busk as a Mime (and perform as a Magician!) It's sad that today, Clowns aren't appreciated as much as they used to be.
Wow 👏
What an honor it was to be involved in this!
Are you real
+Xavier Driscoll and I still make my living by being a professional clown, and in the last year and a half, I have been catching tourists on the flying trapeze too!
Cool, it's just that I've seen other accounts so I'm not sure which one is real
+CharlieThe Clown I bought a copy of this on VHS in 1988, and a few years ago stumbled onto some more current photos of you..."Gotta be the same guy" I said. A tiny bit of research revealed it to be so. You were very good in this and I still use your part of it as a reference on occasion. Thank you for your involvement!
+Jay Webb yes I am still in the Clown business! www.CharlieTheClown.net
I rented this video a number of times as a child, from my local grocery store of all places. I was always into the ideal of entertainment like this. This video is how I learned to juggle, which I can still do pretty well to this day. This is so nostalgic.
Thanks for sharing this wonderful video! I almost quit school while working on a masters degree to join the clown college in the early 70s. I regret not following that dream, but now, I live in Venice, Fl, original home of the Clown College, started doing stand-up comedy at age 65 (and still can juggle a little) so now I'm kind of a clown. I firmly believe a world with clowns and circuses is a better planet, indeed.
The juggler dude was SICK
Thank you! - I think.
THANK YOU for sharing this. I'm a retired teacher and as soon as Covid settles down I can volunteer again
You people have stood in my way long enough! I’m going to clown college!
I'm really impressed by the amount of technique and details within the skills it takes to be a clown. Like how important it is to not make a giant mouth since that is scary. These bozo's know what they're talking about:)
3:01 “I can’t stand to see anybody unhappy!” I’m the same way! I feel like I focus on other people’s happiness that it’s hard for me to focus on my own happiness.
Came here because why the hell not.
Stayed here for the unexpected wholesomeness.
Honestly, same. It also made me realize that clowns are way more talented than most give them credit for. It's kinda sad almost.
Live footage from Twitter HQ.
XDD
No nomore 😂
I watched this when I was 7 right after seeing Ringling perform, and now, I’m starting to audition for circuses! I’ve followed through!
THAT'S IT! You people have stood in my way long enough! I'm going to Clown College!
This video got me started balloon twisting when I was like 10, and now over 20 years later I'm still twisting up a storm :) I had to have watched it at least 20x.
are you a clown ?
no. I'm a balloon twister though
oh
3:50: Chapter 1 - "She's actually thousands of years of old"
so sad that the original clown college has been abandoned! i would have loved to attend it.
I've always loved clowns! the earliest memory of Halloween that i have is dressing up as a clown and i never wanted to take the costume off!
I already have a name for my clown self, it's an amazing way to express yourself i love it!!
I'm being a clown for Halloween this year, i hope nobody hurts me though because of the scary clown craze last year :o(
ratlad oh my god i just came from your reply from another comment and aHHHHH WOW LEGIT ANOTHER PERSON LIKE MEEE,, i love clowns and jesters sm and ive honestly always loved them,,,.,,, i wish there was less scary clown videos on yt because it’s making more people afraid of clowns :•(
Who doesn’t love Ruthie, I’ve known her and Ms Peggy Williams I was a kid, wonderful wonderful people
I've been playing this video every night as I go to sleep for the last 18 years. I also have not taken off my clown shoes in that time. My therapist says I need to stop. I mean used to say.
OMGoodness! I would have loved to see this as a kid. I was graduating from HS the year this came out. Now I'm working with my scouts. I really want them to understand that clowns are not all bad like our recent day media is teaching them.
Thanks for posting, i didn't know what to expect but it ended up being really informative and genuinely entertaining
I remember seeing these very clowns at the circus as a kid in the early 90s!
Ruth Chaddock was the original silly face photo girl. She was such a hot clown.
Nice.
Great performance lou jacob and frosty the clown 🤡🎪❤
Essential in so many ways. Gives me joy just to have access to it. Thank you so much.
Hey, thanks for this. I shared it to my Facebook because I think people need to be reminded that clowns were an innocent thing before all the horror stuff, which I love, but for kids it's making the idea of a clown terrifying and that's just not fair to the performers that work so hard to entertain. There was a time when clowns were such innocent comedy.
Blame Stephen King for that. 😅🤡🎈🛥️
Thanks for posting this! Just great!
Great work,I use to be on the red show, and I know Tammy and Frosty,Lou Jacobs, seeing this brings back great memories...😎🖒
That is awesome
I loved watching this growing up so glad I found it😩😍
7:06 I LOVE HOW THE CLOWN IN THE BACK WAS LIKE YEAH ME NO! 🤣
Frosty little and lou Jacob were the best at clowing around always learning something new each day from them thanks for a good laugh after all these years you learn from the best no question about it. Joe
I've always loved clowns since I was a kid. I remember I would always beg my parents to get me a clown nose whenever we went to the circus. I remember one time my aunt got me a wig for my clown costume . When I was 8 I would use fake plastic grapes from fake fruit decor as clown noses I remember when i took the grapes off my nose, I would have a tiny hickey on my nose 😂. I really don't know why people are afraid of them
This is a great classic. Thanks for posting
Thank you for uploading this!
I Love this !!! I wish there were more !!! you left me wanting More !!
Great video, thank you for sharing.
Thats it! You people have stood in my way long enough - Im going to clown college!
vladmir blagojevic, you know you just quoted The Simpsons.
This is awesome! I really needed some insider tips, especially for the costume
All jokes and phobias aside, I love clowns
I miss the circus. Good part of my childhood.
Thank you for uploading this! I'm new to clowining and this had some helpful pointers
A day where all the world loved a clown
I mean this with the utmost sincerity. If you suffer from coulrophobia, this video will help you overcome the fear.
Final exams in 2 days and now I'm seriously considering about alternative carrier choice.
Oh, my gosh! I haven't seen this since I was little. I love this :)
Thank you for posting this. I got this VHF when I was 4 and I remembered the makeup tutorial when I was doing my Harley Quinn face for Halloween this fall. Im not sure why it popped up in my home screen today but Im glad it did
thank you so much for making/sharing this video, it gave such great in depth tips, loved it
This video is so helpful. I'm looking to make children laugh and this is a great way to do it😀 ty for uploading it.
I wot to be a clown in fact I am I'm icky the clown I do clown acts for 2 dollars but I MIGHT do it for free if I fell nice
Esmeraldina, here! Thanks for the fabulous tips.
I can't believe this is on here! I used to watch this on vhs and wanted to show my daughter and husband. So easy to find! Thank you!
I LOVE CLOWNS! Why do people think they're so scary? Because the media portrays them that way, that's why. I mean, I was " The Joker " female rendition last year. Nobody's afraid of JOKER.. and he's a CLOWN! Please enlighten me people. Also I have seen " IT " and Gacy.. They don't scare me.. Please use other examples.. Thanks.

Jani Taylor OMG she's so pretty I didn't know she was a boy but you can'tpoop
OMG she's so pretty I didn't know she was a boy but you can't even telljckc.cco
Exactly. The fake news media uses movies to push their narratives that clowns are demented killers. I see the bias already
Jani Taylor I dammly agree
No need to worry. Many of my entertainments will show positive portrayals of clowns.
Americans sounded so different back then..
with the accents, like old Hollywood actors/actresses
it just might sound weird only cause I'm Canadian lmao.
I don't think it sounds weird. We'll get those accents sounding like old Hollywood actors and actresses back into the mainstream. I'm planning to put together a Retro Decade Revival Project. Our goal is to bring real entertainment, true talent, pure originality and diversity, old school and more back into the public mainstream, starting with the 1980s. Soon there will be more and more Americans sounding the way they were back in the day.
@@reneastle8447 Are you still working on this? I'm on the spectrum by the way. I saw your video about that.
@@woodliffshow I can use your help. I'll start designing the campaign posters, but you can also help by spreading the word to everybody, listing down the things you'd like to bring back throughout the project, and make videos of the Retro Decade Revival Project to inspire people to join and make major contributions.
@@reneastle8447 as someone who is interested in phonetics, I might be able to help people start speaking the way they did in the old days again. As of now, I am a complete amateur in the field of phonetics and I'm just learning. However, I'm sure that, in time, I will become obsessed.
@@woodliffshow Sweet, I hope it all goes well.
I learnt so much from this video. would love to own a physical copy on VHS one day.
4:28 and 42:53 I couldn’t help but crack a smile here, perhaps another fraction of my hard to find childhood love
A lot of good information in this
You learn from the best to be the best clowns lou Jacob's and frosty little and tammy parish did a excellent job at clowing around at the circus you guys rock thanks keep the laughs coming appreciate you guys thanks ! Joe

(It upsets me to no end, that the movies did scary clowns! I've met grown kids, that are deathly afraid of clowns...they are expecting the SCARY to pop out at an unknown second. That is the MAIN reason clowning is fading away. I have just rejoined my Shriner's Clown Unit, to be ME, but to LOOK like a clown is supposed to.
Great upload :D
Clowns are classic comedy! Funny, cute, and colorful. I was lucky I got to go to the Ringling Bros. Circus when I was a little kid. It was so exciting! I also liked Bozo and Ronald McDonald. Watching clowns that are funny and not scary brings back memories of a simpler, kinder time where things were happier.
This was terrifying.
You know what’s more terrifying?
I remember watching this when i was a kid and now I’m still watching it because yeah
I loved this video when I was a kid! I grew up and did improv/stand-up as a hobby in my teens and 20s, so in a way I did follow little kid me's dreams of being a funny entertainer. Not quite a clown though!

Such a nice Video, really keeps inspring me.
oh dad i miss when you were in the circus even though i was not born it sounded like you had a hell of a time
Was your father a clown?
I go to every Barnum and Bailey circus
Lucky
You can't go to Barnum and Bailey circuses unless you are at least 100 years old
He's probably talking about all of them in his lifetime.
Ukuboi57 Yes you can, you were able to see the Ringling Brother’s Circus up until 2017, when animal rights activists shut them down. It’s was so stupid and annoying, they made a big deal over nothing. I’m 21 and I remember seeing them perform when I was 6 in 2003.
So lucky. I think I saw them maybe once when I was really little. By the time I suddenly really was interested in it all, the greatest show on earth had been cancelled for a few years :(
