when i was 4 my parents rented this for me from the local library, i watched it and rented it so many times they library finally gave it to me. It was from this video that i learned my true meaning was to be a performer and make people laugh. It makes me sad that clowning is quickly becoming a lost art in America. I remember as a young boy, all I ever wanted to be was a hobo clown after watching Red Skelton on my grandmother's VHS recordings. I was shy at school, but when I got home I would spend hours testing various clown makeups, costumes, stunts, and props. I probably drove my parents crazy, but I wanted to be in the traveling circus so bad. That dream was slowly diminished through a lack of support from parents, teachers, and the few friends I had. Now, watching this film, I am overwhelmed with nostalgia, and my heart breaks when I learn that Ringling Bros. have shut their doors for good. To all those clowns out there who work, and have worked to bring joy to millions, thank you!

Thanks for sharing this. I was actually in a clown group, that was trained by a lady that came from Ringling Bros. College. She was an amazing teacher. I loved being a clown and still have my costume, my papers, all my clowning gear, and makeup (although it's a bit dried out) lol. I still feel like part of her still lives inside me. Love to the clowns! EDIT: Just noticed this was from 1987, I got my training in 1985, in WV. If the lady who came to a small little town in WV, in '85 sees this...You changed a lot of lives, especially mine.
Thanks for this. I was taking my 4 year old grandson to see the Ringling Bros circus and he was afraid of the clowns he said. So we watched this before we went and it helped him to see the clowns were not scary. Thank you for posting.
I went to the Ringling Brothers Circus in 1988 when it was the 20 year anniversary of Clown College. They did a special recognition and the man who was head of the college at the time spoke and expressed his appreciation for everyone who supported it. Sadly, Clown College closed in 1997. There will never be another place like it.

I firmly believe a world with clowns and circuses is a better planet, indeed.
When I was a kid, my dad and his friends made my sister and I dress as clowns and crash the local Easter parade. We were given a broom that could be used as an air guitar or as a prop to fake out people. There was horse shit in the street and we would act like we were going to sweep it on people. I remember one year I got separated from my dad and saw a group of pipers in kilts marching, some of them carrying rifles. I immediately put my broom on my shoulder and began marching alongside them. I cherish that memory .

This brought back memories... I had watched this video when it first came out because I had always wanted to go to Clown College. My parents first took me to see the Ringling Bros. circus in 1970, and we went just about every year since throughout the 1970s. I never did make it to clown college, but as a kid, I did work as a clown for many backyard carnivals and used to busk as a Mime (and perform as a Magician!) It's sad that today, Clowns aren't appreciated as much as they used to be.

crocodilederndee I'm thinking of becoming a full time Clown. I'm working on my voice and gags.
Xun Zhang well sadly this clown college in this video closed in 1997.
I go to every Barnum and Bailey circus
Lucky
You can't go to Barnum and Bailey circuses unless you are at least 100 years old
He's probably talking about all of them in his lifetime.
Ukuboi57 Yes you can, you were able to see the Ringling Brother’s Circus up until 2017, when animal rights activists shut them down. It’s was so stupid and annoying, they made a big deal over nothing. I’m 21 and I remember seeing them perform when I was 6 in 2003.
So lucky. I think I saw them maybe once when I was really little. By the time I suddenly really was interested in it all, the greatest show on earth had been cancelled for a few years :(
Heh, and to think I was performing for Ruthie Chaddock last week!
WHAT REALLY
It was for a Ringling audition in Dallas last August.
Does she look the same as she does in these
Well it's been almost thirty years :op
Did she have make up on
A lot of good information in this

Esmeraldina, here! Thanks for the fabulous tips.
I got this on VHS for Christmas around 1987 or 1988. I watched it a million times!
I remember watching this when i was a kid and now I’m still watching it because yeah
The opening feels like a horror movie at first. Good god.
E X C E L L E N T !!!
THANK YOU !!!
I subbed
(It upsets me to no end, that the movies did scary clowns! I've met grown kids, that are deathly afraid of clowns...they are expecting the SCARY to pop out at an unknown second. That is the MAIN reason clowning is fading away. I have just rejoined my Shriner's Clown Unit, to be ME, but to LOOK like a clown is supposed to.
I love love love this video so much
I'm pretty good at card tricks and other types of magic tricks, and I make people laugh
RB IS BACK THIS YEAR!
Great video, thank you for sharing.
I thought this was an inside look at the NY Giants locker room. Haha

I was half expecting for him to say… "Sure he can juggle but he make balloon animals! A la Steve Martin.
