    Okay, having decided that my Gravity Pro was too cumbersome and that my Extreme Tour needed way too much modification to play solidly, I bought a discounted 2022 Boom Pro. Dang, Luca is right! Leather grip and maybe 4 grams around the hoop and I have a monster racquet. It's significantly more powerful (with a full bed of poly) than the Gravity Pro or Extreme Tour, spinnier than the Gravity, more maneuverable than either (due to all the lead the Extreme needed), and controlled enough to allow me to swing through the ball. My OHBH is rock solid and the slice is fine (if not as good as the Gravity). Even touch shots are great. I am just pleased as I can be thus far (several hits and two blowout matches)! Let's hope the honeymoon keeps going!

    I watch other tennis racquet review channels but never got to watch this channel until now. One of the best reviewers that I have seen. I’m a bit biased since I play with the previous version Boom Pro and love it. (And I’ve tried A LOT of different racquets) I’m just happy that someone shares the same excitement for the racquet. Subscribed! Keep it up!

    This is genuinely a very intriguing racquet. Sweetspot is definitely higher up and everything seems to happen in the upper half of the hoop. It's like the racquet gives you a 20% "power up" in terms of normal pace and spin when you hit it there. I guess that's where the 'Boom!' comes from. One of the most 'fun' 98sq" racquets I've used in a while. The way I would describe it is that the racquet always want to do "something with the ball" when you hit in the string bed. Slices are good, groundstrokes are good, and racquet is surprisingly stable for its weight with good ability to block back big serves etc. The racquet can occasionally launch a ball if you hit it in the wrong part of the spring bed but that's the only thing I think you need to get used to. Strung mine at 53/52 with Sonic Pro 1.25mm.

    Luca can you do a comparison of the boom pro and the vcore 98 since they have both tried this similar unique head shape? I tried and failed to switch to the boom pro because i use a lot of slice.and i found i could not control approach shots or volleys that well. I really miss the forehand though, man it can create a heavy ball. I haven't found the vcore 98 to play much at all like the boom pro, interested in your thougbts on why, launch angle?

      yeah especially if other manufacturers start to go with this wider 10 and 2 head shape idea. I've seen some people talk about putting lead lower down on the hoop to try and lower the location of the sweetspot since they couldn't get used to the higher position this head shape creates, would this work? does it defeat the purpose of the racquet?@@RacketsRunnersVancouver

    I think the Boom gets overlooked because most advanced players wanting a HEAD racquet choose between the more consistent all rounder Radical, or the base line laser beam Gravity. The Boom seems to be more of an old school head heavy plough monster ?

      It's actually headlight (31 inch balance point), just quite polarized with both some mass in the top and in the handle, hence the medium swing weight for a relatively heavy racket

    I got back into tennis 2 months ago after a 13 year hiatus, and I instantly fell in love with the boom pro (the previous version, not 2024) visually and based my decision entirely on that. But 2 months later, it's still my favorite of all the ones I've tried! Vcore 98 a close second, which makes sense given your comparison.
    Also totally agree that it can be difficult to stay controlled with slower shots. Spot on takes on the boom pro.

      @The4.0Guy 10 місяців тому +1

      I owned one for about 3 months and have a one handed backhand. Like he says the launch angle makes it hard to hit biting one hand slice but if you are set up it was not bad for ripping topspin backhands. Being set is important because also like he said its a bit sluggish and you can't catch up if your prep is late or need to improvise much

    • @garethward5010
      @garethward5010 10 місяців тому +1

      I use the outgoing model which I’m going to buy a few more of as they are stupid cheap right now. I have a one handed back hand and I really like it. I now try to hit through the ball a lot more than the slice which has been good for my game. I find it very adaptable. I can pick the ones up off my toes if my opponent hits deep with just a flick. I can step in and rip it cross court and I can go down the line fairly easily too. I don’t find the slice as bad as the guy in the video suggests but it is certainly a weapon if you’ve got the mechanics.

    • @dustyroot4708
      @dustyroot4708 10 місяців тому

      I’ll chime in. It’s the trajectory of the ball after it leaves the strings. An open 16x19 pattern like a pure Aero will naturally produce loopy topspin shots with a high launch angle. A closed 18x20 pattern will naturally produce more Laserlike shots with a lower net clearance and a more penetrating ball. (Think shooting through the court)

    I have been trying to decide between the ezone 98 tour and vcore 98 tour for weeks. I bought the 2022 boom pro on sale for kicks. Used it once didn’t love it. Just got off the court, 2 hr lesson hitting all 3. My coach said it wasn’t even close. Boom Pro all the way. I was just a better player with it. Plenty of spin , depth, control. Feels much better on off center shots than the other 2. Listing both both yonex on Facebook marketplace. This summer I am all in on Boom Pro.

    Any thoughts on how the Boom Pro compares to the Aero 98? Many of your comments match up with my feelings about the Aero 98, including comparisons to it versus the Blade.

    • @willydasquid1615
      @willydasquid1615 10 місяців тому

      I can’t comment on the new one, but I had the original boom pro and switched to the aero 98. For me, there were a couple of reasons.
      1) head quality control is ass, mine was 13 grams over speced. I need a leather grip, and before I knew it I had a 345 gram static weight which is far too high for me.
      2) i got way more natural spin with the aero 98
      While I love the aero 98, there are a couple of things it does worse though.
      1) feel. I loved the feel of the boom pro, it reminded me of an easier to use gravity pro.
      2) volleys. Volleys just felt more stable, but that’s probably because of the higher static weight.
      I’d lean towards the pure aero 98 just because it’s probably the greatest racket ever created for a mid level recreational player, but way more people should be using the boom pro.

    • @jorgetirado3201
      @jorgetirado3201 10 місяців тому

      @@willydasquid1615why should way more people be using the boom pro vs the aero 98 in your opinion?

    • @willydasquid1615
      @willydasquid1615 10 місяців тому

      Not necessarily over the aero 98, but I know a lot of people that just don’t like babolat rackets. If you fall in that camp, id highly recommend giving it a try. In addition, I definitely need to generate more head speed with the aero 98 to hit it deep vs the boom pro that gave me more natural depth on my shots, especially when my positioning wasn’t very clean. But it has to be noted my boom was so out of wack weight wise it’s hard to know if it’s not just that.

    • @MrOutPerform
      @MrOutPerform 10 місяців тому

      Was wondering this as well. I actually switched to the rafa as it gave a lot more feel which I have been rather happy with. However, I wanted to have a more controlled setup in the mix

    • @RacketsRunnersVancouver
      @RacketsRunnersVancouver  10 місяців тому

      The Aero 98 is an awesome racket with a more modern stiff feel and more spin. The Boom is also great for spin and power but has more of that classic feel and flex which I (and a lot of people) love. The Aero will be more instantly likeable but both end up performing very similarly (and very well) in a lot of metrics.

  • @gavlatennis2824

    This is SUCH an unusual racquet. I’m really surprised how changes in this racquet’s hoop design affects how it plays to such an extent. Detailed observations below:
    - Typical Head polarized feel to the weighting of the racquet (which can be offset by adding some lead tape to the throat)
    - Sweetspot is further up in the string bed where the racquet head has been widened from East/West. Racquet almost feels like it elongated (even though its standard length). The upper half of the hoop is where where all the action happens. Hitting the ball in the middle or lower down in the string bed results in a much flatter ball trajectory.
    - As a consequence of the different hoop design, traditional balance specs don’t seem to be representative. I’ve seen unstrung Boom Pro specs ranging from 305mm-310mm. Normally I wouldn’t be keen on a racquet with such as HL spec but that sort of range for this racquet feels better balanced to me than my normal preferred ~ 315mm-320mm. Racquet still feels slightly demanding to swing - you’ll need some physicality or good preparation/timing to get the best out of it.
    - Medium firm feeling in terms of flex. Not exactly plush, but not stiff or brassy feeling either, but that can vary depending on where you’re hitting in the string bed.
    - By far, the liveliest 98sq” racquet that I ever played with! There can be quite big variations in response depending on where you hit in the string bed - at times, it can feel like a wild mustang that wants to charge off into the distance with you on the back of it! It’s like the racquet constantly wants to inject another 10%, 20%, 30% of additional spin and pace into every ball that you hit. Every slice serve I hit for example, slices about 1-2ft wider compared to my normal racquet (a customised Wilson Shift 300). However, this ‘wild mustang’ characteristic has its benefits - more action on all ball, awkward shots for your opponent and ‘get out of trouble power’ when you’re pulled out wide or in a defensive position. If you like racquets that help you with spin/power and you’re the sort of player who can corral the headstrong personality of the racquet, you have a real weapon on your hands with the Boom Pro.
    - Specs can vary a lot due to manufacturing QC. I’ve seen unstrung weights vary from 307g-316g, balance between 305mm-312mm etc. Most of the samples I saw were heavier and more HL than the than the advertised spec. Bear in mind that you can trim 4g from the racquet just by swapping the butt cap trap door (which has a weighted cylindrical ‘knob’ inside it) for the lighter Head XT style butt caps from a few years ago (which doesn’t have the 4g weighted cylindrical knob inside it)
    Overall, I think this racquet is definitely worth a demo, just bear in mind that you will probably need a few hitting sessions to get used to it and possibly experiment with tweaking some of the specs to suit.

I would usually just shrug off "Power" racquet lines like Ezone, Puredrive, etc. and naturally thought Boom fits in the category and never given it a serious look. Your review here, combined with Tennisnerd Jonas' high praise, made me want to test out one of my buddy's Boom Pro (2022) and I was pleasantly surprised! Update: I have a bit of weight at 10, 12 and 2 now, and I feel like even though that placement ups the swing weight, it has helped with my acceleration. Something about the weight carrying through and finishing the swing, I think. Have you had such an experience? I have defected 2022 Boom Pro, with luck I have given someone to custom painted for me. Think he may have sanding a little too much that make racket a bit more flexible and comfortable. Really good racket control is quite unique. I also have VC 98 really hard racket to understand BP is more user friendly for most I think.

    I got 2 boom pros based on your previous reviews, during the holiday sale. I went with the lynx touch at 52, based on heads recommendations. My shots are always a bit long when going for a winner. Do you think switching to the lynx tour at 52 would help this? Or should I up my tension Also switched to a leather grip + tourna blue overgrip. I love the additional handle weight. Any other customizations that you would recommend?

    Boom Pro has one od the most reliable flat shots at that weight reference … I own both Pro and Mp and I have customized the Mp to 332gr , now it’s a spin mosnter with great torque resistance whilst the Pro is way better on flat shots . It’s interesting as a fairly new line is actually almost perfect for old-style players ( which I’m not ) . It feels very manoeuvrable , way more than the Speed Pro . Great review Luca ! Greetings from Italy 🎉

    • @RacketsRunnersVancouver
      @RacketsRunnersVancouver  10 місяців тому +1

      The flat shot isn't something I wanted to talk too much about because I thought maybe it was just me since nothing about the specs should equate to a reliable flat shot, but a lot of people seem to agree with that so I 100% do as well.
