***** Well Microsoft can't really do anything to "fix" the app selection other than encourage developers to support the platform. Combing the Windows 8 and Windows phone app stores would no doubt help though. As for a UA-cam app WP used to have a great official app until Google forced MS to take it down even after they redesigned it based on Google's requirements. Despite that WP still provides an incredible UA-cam experience from great third party apps like myTube and Metrotube. Even the Instagram app has awesome third party alternatives with apps like 6tag.

for youtube there are apps MyTube, MetroTube.
For instagram we have the beta and 6tag which is much better than the normal Instagram app. Windows phone has all the big apps.
Surrblizzard Sorry, the alternatives of UA-cam sucks. I've been using Metrotube and UA-camHD since May of 2013. It has been getting issues times to times. I'm sorry but it's still just a relatively bad app.
The alternative like MyTube and Metrotube are far superior than the stock youtube app. I have used android since the first android phones came out.
I respect the fact they make this technology affordable for people that don't have a lot of money. Not everybody can afford iphones and galaxies.

Awesome unboxing Jon. I am so glad that you are reviewing a lower end smartphone as its great to get your input on those devices especially when you also consider how awesome these low end smartphones really have become. This is especially apparant with low end Android smartphones. I will be getting my review unit of the Nokia Lumia 930 tomorrow. It will be the first time I unbox a brand new Lumia smartphone.

As a WP8.1 user, Lumia 1520, I can imagine the 635 still is a capable phone for the typical smart phone user.
I would love a non-WP8.1 user to tell me I'm lacking something useful. It's choices and Windows Phone is quite amazing.
john please show off all the settings and what you can do on windows phones now you have the knock feature you can have the feature to were you can wear gloves and still use the phone without taking them off you can change the home screen to have 3 big box icons in width ect.

I found the China version of this (Nokia Lumia 636) for only around $15 unlocked and six free, specs are almost the same. Wow. True Budget phone. Even this can retail close to $30 unlocked and sim free.

I just bought microsoft lumia 535 and with windows phone 8.1 and the screen is 5" inch. little bit bigger than iphone 6. Lumia 535 is amazing phone

Okay, is this really any better than the Lumia 520/521? Other than the quad-core CPU, there isn't much benefit from it. The Lumia 520 has 512MB RAM and there are some games that require the 1GB models. WindowsPhoneHub has a few patched XAPs but you have to "jailbreak" the phone to run them. The Lumia 520 is a pretty good phone for about half the price (alot of places are selling it for $59-$79 now)
The phone looks nice, thought it is kind of a very low spec device. The packaging is poor but overall I think that if someone is looking for a "budget" device this might be? An option... Maybe...
If microsoft app store actually had apps and was sorta similar to the play store(allowing user made apps) I would have purchased one of the lumias but instead I got a Galaxy S5 which is beast.

I think a lot of people are missing the phone that not everyone has the money, first off, to buy nice phones, or the fact that not everyone prefers Android, and even that Windows 8.1 isn't so resource consuming as other OSes can be.

Pencil Crackers Its not about Evolution numb nuts, 5C copying Lumia is like a step back for Apple in terms of design-wise. Nokia made everyone believe as if they were the ones who came up with colourful designs when Apple did that way back at 2009 with the 5th generation iPod Nanos.

What I don't understand is why anyone would buy this phone when there are so many better phones available, running Windows Phone but also iOS and Android. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Because it is a very cheap Windows phone. And believe it or not, there are actually people - like me - who prefer WP. I'm guessing you've never tried WP? It really is a fantastic OS. And I've been around the block a few times. Yes, I do sometimes miss a few apps - I would love Clash of Clans - but it is soooooo few. Except for the apps, WP is superior, in my opinion off course.
I bought this one because I wanted to change a little bit, but so far I can say it's still lacking so much (though WP 8.1 is much nicer than WP8, which is good enough).
I still keep my Samsung Galaxy Light which is a way better phone with much more power and features, and is also cheaper ($99.60 at T-mobile now).

Adolf Kleinhans I don't mind, at all. In fact I would like to share so people would know.
a lot of things are still missing.
Now first I want to mention what I WP8 didn't have but WP8.1 now does: pull-down notifications, quick settings (wifi, screen rotation, brightness, bluetooth, and others), rotation lock, background wallpaper, the limit of customization. etc.
Now I recently bought a Lumia 635 with WP8.1 out of the box, I can say those things mentioned above are no longer a problem. Here are what it's still lacking:
- a fully-functional Facebook app: believe it or not, the facebook app on WP has been crappy for over a year since May 2013 when I started using WP8. The app now canNOT do a lot of things you can do on Android and iOS (cannot unload a photo with a caption status at the same time, cannot post photo comments, cannot even see photo comment, cannot go to an event invite to accept it, cannot view the list of people who got invited and those who accepted to go or not. I sold my Lumia 521 back in April and just bought this 635 now thinking the app might be updated to fix some stuff already, but no. It's still that bad. In less than a week I figured out all those stuff. I wonder what is Microsoft doing. If I buy an expensive Lumia, like the 930 or the 1520, and I end up having a half-assed Facebook app like that, I would be extremely disappointed.
- No pop-up chat head like on Android and iOS: chat head is super convenient to have. It makes chatting on facebook (and other apps, like Tango on iOS and Android) much faster. You don't have to wait for the phone to load up the app every time you switch from another task. And yea, the app loading time on WP is much longer (I compared the 635 with my Moto G and Samsung Galaxy Light), so it's just... not so good.
- lack of apps, still: Yes, lacking in both quantity and quality. People who tell you otherwise are probably just trying to be nice to WP, or they are in denial. The app store has grown a lot for sure, but it's still nowhere to be competing yet. It's kinda like the Play Store on Android 2-3 years ago.
- Notification: WP8 has been having the problem with notification for stuff like Viber and Skype. It is still there. You can also go to the app reviews of those 2 (via the web since you don't have a WP device, I believe) and you will see what they are saying. Viber works perfectly on Android and iOS, and Skype is built by Microsoft themselves, so in my opinion, they should actually work quite well on WP.
- Internet explorer: it's actually pretty smooth, not too bad, but I've had some issues now. When I browse eBay mobile (web) and I scroll the deals page, the phone is gonna response as if I tapped on an item (then it goes to an item page). It's also not capable of uploading photos on facebook. Chrome on Android can. But still, not too big of a deal with this browser. It works great most of the time.
- Sharing stuff: it's not as nice as Android and iOS where everything is so easy to share to a social network service. In my case, I use facebook a lot, and I use Bing news. So when I find an article that is interesting, I want to be able to share via facebook for others to see, but then Bing News just doesn't let me share to anything except via email. Yes, that's the only option I see.
- Performance: WP8 and 8.1 are really good at having a smooth homescreen. But then again, lags are there. The Lumia 635 I got for 5 days actually lagged more than the Moto G I've owned for probably 2 months now. I want to say this to clear up the myth that says "WP doesn't lag". And then it's slow. App launching and loading is way slower than on Android, and I don't even get why it can take so long (sometimes more than 5 seconds apart or more, which is weird). Gaming performance is also disappointed, and in this case, I'm just talking about my Lumia 635. It has a snapdragon 400 just like in the Moto G, yet the performance is just nowhere close. Granted that it has only 512 MB of ram, but if the ram is to blame, then I would blame Nokia for releasing phones with such low ram. There are several Android phones out there with 1gb of ram, 1.2ghz quad-core or faster, and they are much more powerful. The Samsung Galaxy Light and the LG Optimus L90 are both powerful, yet they are costing $99.60 right now. No joke.
So yeah, these are just the things that are bothering me right now.
Price and descent quality. Hmmm...name one that is better and cheaper and I will buy it.

Nhelven Gonzales I own both (T-mobile Lumia 635 and Verizon Moto G). The Moto G is much more powerful, much faster, has a better display, better camera processing software, and a front camera.
I'm using the 635 as my daily driver, but well... yea... it's fun to switch system once in a while.
