I recently took a spin in a S4 (2013), and I have to say I'm shocked. The suspension setup and the low end power, together with the quattro is one impressive combination. During some accelerations I was pushed back in the seat in a raw and sudden way, and I could feel how planted the car was and at the same moment just finding traction with it's 4 wheel drive. What a fantastic car.
I just bought a 2013 6-speed S4, and am chomping at the bit for it to be delivered. “Wolf in sheep’s clothing” is exactly why I’ve wanted one of these cars for years. After your review I’m even more fired up to own it.
Nick I own a '15 S4, and I think in terms of showing the performance of the car it would have been helpful to have shown the automatic gearbox also. In most cases the S-tronic can shift faster than normal drivers and thats when you really get that nice supercharger blowback sound between gear changes. Just my opinion.
The manual will always give you more control though. Is all about what you want in a car. Personally I would always choose a manual if I'm looking to have a good driving experience.
really enjoy your videos, some may say you "talk too much" but considering most car reviews on youtube are like 5 minutes long your vids are a nice contrast and the detail is appreciated, closest you can get to driving one yourself watching this.
Great to hear that kiwi voice, from 1 to another, I see this film was made quiet a few years ago so if you are still in the states stay safe, if your back in Aotearoa then you wont have to worry, cheers for all the info, I'm trying to import a 2014 S4 avant so enjoyed your show, cheers Nick.
I have a B8 S4 coming from a B6 S4. I miss the grunt and visceral sensation from the V8 a lot. The B8 is faster, but doesn't feel faster, yet it's much nicer inside. I miss the Recaro seats (they were an A+) from the B6. I feel like there is something missing from the B8, but it's very comfortable and fast. The exhaust note is raspy vs. grunty. If you get one, definitely get the sport diff. It's the strangest feeling, but helps that Audi understeer and feels incredibly safe. If you want to turn heads, look elsewhere. No one knows about an S4 (my experience) and I've crushed many a Porsche. Sleeper car with a TON of potential for ecu mods. Just watch the Chris Harris video.
Damn Nick you have such great content on this channel. You deserve so much more views and I really hope you will get them in the future. Plus, you seem like such a nice person. Keep up the good work!
The thing i liked most about the s4 b8 is the comfortable steering wheel. Sounds funny but on a long tour on the Autobahn you can really rest your thumbs very nicely in the molds and therefore have a lot of control at high speeds. great review as usual. You are way better especially with your showcasing of details than the "professional ones".
First comment but have watched all your videos over the last few months. Loved this review and your general style of reviewing is refreshing. Would love to see you review older performance cars like an e46 m3 and think you would get a positive response from your veiwers. Cheers Jack
Hey Nick! Love your videos. Have you had a chance to drive any of the E39 model BMW's? my curiosity might be a decade or so late, but would love to hear your opinion on an M5 from that year and perhaps a comparison between your new M4. Anyway, keep up the vids!
Great review. I just picked up an S4 going from an E92 M3. M3 was great but not practical or toddler friendly. Btw i live in the area and recognize all the roads you were on lol
Great video Nick. But I believe the blue is Estoril Blue, not Midnight Blue. I have a 2014 S4 and find it the perfect daily driver, especially with the weather here in Chicago.
I suppose it's down to particular models, but my Wife's Audi A1 has mixed orange and white interior lighting. Where as my M235i has just orange or just white as you can select which ever you prefer in the menu settings.
have you driven the dual clutch version? much better sounds coming into the cabin from it. also this a B8.5. thanks for the video looking forward to the M4 video after your engine break in service.
thank you Nick, excellent review (imo the best review of yours yet). Damn that seat leather sagging, the drivers seat looks like 150k miles on it. But the engine noise.. sounds so good. I hope audi gets some proper big-screen 4k(lol) displays in their cars @ next iteration.
Nick Murray Yup, mine was sagging (like the one in the video- seat bottom side supports). Its a quite common problem in Audi's, lots of info in UK Audi forums, German auto forums (schrumpelsitz- shrivel seats)). If the dealer is friendly, they will replace the seat cushions with leather on their own expenses. Audis official response is: thats the characteristics of leather. People have made out some conclussions on Audi seats- the worst scenario is Valcona leather type + sports seats. Same problem in some of the BMW seats. But the good thing is- it can be seen, that year by year, the carmakers are adding some more stiching & other stuff to make things right.
My Friend Used to have one in that exact Gray Color. It was totaled by a drunk driver along with my F30 back in January tho :-/. I miss that Audi, amazing car
had a B5.5 Audi S4 and it had the best interior I've had on cars I've owned. beats my 997 interior by miles. the V8 put out more power but it was a heavy car that handled much worst than my later regular BMW 325.
I love your reviews mate! It's not just a 3 minute rundown of some spec sheet with a few superficial comments but instead thorough and overall very satisfying to watch! Oh and while I know you're more of a combustion engine advocate ;) - but would you consider reviewing a Tesla Model S? Since it receives praise from all ends, an opinion from your perspective would be interesting!
What did you think of the ride quality in the different modes compared to your M4? I drove the F80 M3 recently and it was firm but not punishing and better than the previous gen C63 AMG. An Msport F30 335i was quite soft in comparison.
Awesome video on an awesome car, Nick! I've had several friends who have had these and they all love them and tell me that's what I should buy over a 335i in the future, but I just don't know which. I know you've driven both, what are your thoughts?
It's hard to pick, both have their good and bad points. I think 335i is more driver focused and of course it has just been updated where the S4 is on its last year before a big update. The leather in the Audi is much nicer and if you choose the auto you get a DCT in the Audi over the TC auto in the BMW. If I had to pick one today I would most likely go for the 335i because it is newer and a little more driver focused. I think the Audi will take the lead again with the update next year.
The B8 Audis are really great! My dad has a 2014 2.0 TDI Avant and it does look really great, even though they're damn common :D the B9 is sexy too but not with the base lights...
That M4 interior tho May I ask, what did the clutch feel like? My brother drives an A1 and the clutch he says is pretty deep and takes a while getting used to and what cars did you own before?
Nice reviews! Keep them coming! Now that you have reviewed BMWs and Audis I really hope you can get your hands on to a real german muscle car, Mercedes with AMG badge ;)
Hey Nick, I know this isn't your newest video but I've been researching a lot about the S5 actually, which I'm sure is very similar to this car. My question to you would be if you prefer the S5 to the 435i X-Drive? Anyone can chime in on this as well, but Nick you're someone whose opinion I trust when it comes to cars.
***** It is a tricky time to be looking at an S5 because they are due to be replaced with a new model soon. The new A/S4 will be released in September and the A/S5 not long after that. So can you wait a few more months? It might be worth it as while the current S5 is beautiful however the tech is now a little dated and the new model is going to be lighter. The 435xi has just had a minor update, I will be reviewing the updated 435xi cab in a few weeks, very nice and more sporty than the S5 but personally I like the look of the S5 a little more.
Great review, as usual. It would be nice if you can say something about the mpg on the cars you review. And not the claimed figures, because you can read about them in the brochure, what are you getting in real life.
You know you can change the color for the leds in the BMW right ? However I do agree that it's weird that the dash light is white while the rest is orange, it's not like that on my F30
Hey Nick, new to your channel but I just subscribed. Loved the review. I need some advice, I'm about to buy an 2015 S4. I'm getting a nice deal on it I believe, getting 6% off sticker with a 1000 rebate. The only thing holding me back is the new model coming out next year. My question is, is it worth buying now or waiting till the next model? Also is there another car out there I can get into under 50k that would rival the Audi?
Good question and I guess it is subjective because I think you would be happy with the S4 regardless of the new model next year. I think the engine will be much the same as they are likely to focus on the styling, so look at the new S3 and you will see what next years S4 is going to look like inside more or less. As for what to get instead of the S4 for that price range, without a doubt I think the C400 MB is the class leader at the moment. The inside of the C400 is a work of art and the engine is amazing, much more powerful than they claim. I would take a look at one of those before committing to the S4.
Nick Murray At the end of the day you are going to get the best deal on the S4 because they are are end of line so the discount will be deep. So get all new with the MB and pay more or get the good deal with the Audi.
You are making this hard for me lol. I get the same discount at Mercedes Audi and BMW. I get it for supplier coast because of my Fiances Job. I want to have me most fun while driving a good commuting car. I have a Cla-250 now and its just leaving me wanting more. I really want a standard for my next car, so that's why I'm leaning more towards Audi. Bmw and Mercedes nickle and dime you on some options the Audi gives for free. I supose I cant make the wrong choice, but I do want tot make the best choice lol :). Thanks for responding really cool!!
Great video as usual Nick. Love the S4. So much so I'm considering trading in my daily (2006 Infiniti FX45) and my toy (2006 C4S) on a 2014 S4. Not sure yet but the S4 surely offers lots of bang for the buck. Car I'm looking at is a CPO with 13k miles for $50k. It's Misano Red which I love since my C4S is Guards Red. What do you think? Thx again for great review.
Michael Neri Yes the S4 really is a great package. It is not as much of a drivers car as your C4S would be but then it is far more comfortable and would perform as well if not better. I think you will love it. Best of all worlds.
Hello Nick, my question is about the transmission shoices. Which one in your opinion delivers the biggest punch, as well as working the best to match the horsepower of the s4, is the manuel stronger or the auto? Also, which one gets better mpg? Thanks Tracy.
tracy teresi Generally the auto gets the best MPG unless you are great at keeping the MT in higher gears. I think the manual is the more fun transmission in this car
Indeed! I really love visiting Germany. I like German breads, German roads, German swimming pool complexes (this is a hidden gem about Germany most people don't know about) and of course the German people.
nick, although i do agree with you regarding bmw's inferior interior design compared to audi's, how did you find the overall driving dynamics of this car? I have heard from several video reviews that audis steering feels very isolated and give very little road feedback. to quote fellow youtuber who owns a m3 and 911 gt3, he said, "i hated the s4, it felt like driving a v8 camry" can you agree with this or are you not that critical?
+bearstearn3 The driving dynamics of the S4 are not meant to compete with the M3. That's the RS4. An M3/S4 comparison isn't a fair comparison because the S4 isn't built to compete with the M3. The S4 is built to compete with the BMW 335 xdrive.
I'm in the market for a sporty sedan. I'm an Audi guy. Looking at a newer S3 or used S4. What do you think? Technology is much better in the S3 but overall i think the S4 might do it. I do have a family but we don't use my car much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Even though I'm from Munich, I have to admit I like the Audi A4 exterior and interior best, so I agree with you, Nick. Question for you however: Since one can't really hear the engine very well inside the cabine and the drive isn't that involving anyway, wouldn't it make more sense to get the standard A4 2.0 TFSI with a quattro S tronic? Seems like one can kit that one out with all the nice interior and tech extras and still save oneself one shitload of money compared to the S4. On another note, are you going to test the all new C-lass? Seems to me it's interior might actually be the gold standard in its class, at lest until the all new A4 arrives. Cheers and keep it up, Dave
Nick Murray Nice. Btw, what kind of leather is that in the S4 which you praise so much: Milano, Feinnappa or Valcona? And would you say that it is even better than the one in your M4?!
Great review Nick but it seems you have completely, forgotten about another manufacturer. You mention Porsche, Audi, BMW in your videos. But not once have I heard you talk about Mercedes Benz? Which in my opinion beat all of the manufacturers which you talk about.
adilakram67 The light above the passenger sun visor never turns off, even when the visor and the mirror are closed and the car is off. It is only a small light but it is draining the battery so needs to be sorted.
WarHammer1911A1 I guess it depends what is important to you. The RS5 is a special car because it looks so much more aggressive. Some people love the V8 sound you get from the RS5 and of course you get the better brakes, wheels, body kits etc. I would pay the price for the RS5.
I own an RS5, and recently took it in for service due to a common issue with the RS5's brakes which cause the chassis to wobble violently during brake application. I was given an S4 loaner, and I will tell you that the more comfortable, adjustable suspension, lighter weight, and readily available low-end torque of the S4 made it a much nicer car to drive than the RS5. The RS5 rides like it's on bricks, extremely harsh suspension, and the S-Tronic is very jerky. The S-Tronic in the S4 was very smooth and never once caused the car to lurch and buck, something that happens every time I drive the RS5. I was actually a bit disappointed when my RS5 service was done. I love the look and sound of the RS5 much more than the S4, but those are the only two advantages. You could say that the S4 is a better all-around car, and the RS5 is somewhat of a poser car.
Nick Murray haha I've been watching videos on youtube of this guy who turbo'd his Maxima (among other mods), and it's actually quite a sleeper! If only it was RWD or AWD. Torquesteer is not preferred. The Maxima does have a really nice engine though.
chrrrr Honestly around where I live on the East coast, if there is a car slicing through traffic with a death wish, 9/10 times it is a Maxima! They do have nice engines however : )
I recently took a spin in a S4 (2013), and I have to say I'm shocked. The suspension setup and the low end power, together with the quattro is one impressive combination. Just discovered your videos. Love the details in the review! Please bring more updates on the M4 soon!
palemex69 working on it
Nick you are great keep up this fantastic work
Outstanding reviews
It'd be fun to have you test the S4 with a "Stage 2" tune in it. Changes the character of the car greatly.
Very nice detailed review Nick, thx!
Your channel is awesome my good sir! Have a nice day!

I also had a b7 s4 loved the v8 grunt - but the reality was trash - I love my b8 s4 soon to be dual pulley
Damn Nick you have such great content on this channel. You deserve so much more views and I really hope you will get them in the future. Plus, you seem like such a nice person. Keep up the good work!
Thank you. Nice comment.
class review - the Audi interior superiority is a given, anybody not agreeing is a badge fan boy more often than not.
superb vid quality and personal review/impression of a to die for car. more plz and thanks Nick.
Thank you
Nice review!

Hi Jack, yes I plan to do more older models in the future.
Who knows could have a NICKMURRAY+ channel a year from now ah
Nice review. It would be great to see a comparison between the stock and the various tunes available for the S4
Great review! Would like to see your review of the Lexus GS350 F sport. Thanks
Nick, are you ever going to do the review with the BMW 335i? Great review!
Just wondering if either one of the cars had the optional sport rear diff? I have one in mine and I tell the difference between S4s without it.
Sounds great!
Audi S4 has always been mt favorite car, but i'm torn between the S4 and BMW 335i x drive...but will be getting one soon!!!!!
hi nick, i love audis (got an a5 sportback at home) and so on but since you are in merica i would like to see a review of a charger SRT...
Yes Audi screens are now on the small side I agree. The leather is sagging in your Audi?
Nick Murray Yup, mine was sagging (like the one in the video- seat bottom side supports). Its a quite common problem in Audi's, lots of info in UK Audi forums, German auto forums (schrumpelsitz- shrivel seats)). If the dealer is friendly, they will replace the seat cushions with leather on their own expenses. Audis official response is: thats the characteristics of leather. People have made out some conclussions on Audi seats- the worst scenario is Valcona leather type + sports seats. Same problem in some of the BMW seats. But the good thing is- it can be seen, that year by year, the carmakers are adding some more stiching & other stuff to make things right.
would you take the B8.5 S4 over the E90's M3 as a daily driving ?
The A4 in the U.S. goes above 45,000. It's about 41 or 42,000.00 starting price. I just bought a 2015, S-Line, Turbo charged A4.
My Friend Used to have one in that exact Gray Color. It was totaled by a drunk driver along with my F30 back in January tho :-/. I miss that Audi, amazing car
Sup man, can u plz post more vids about ur lexus is350. Like do a ownership review or things u like and things u dont. Thanks
Great review as always. I hope your friends don't call you out for car abuse when they see Tui on the seat.
No I checked with them first.
had a B5.5 Audi S4 and it had the best interior I've had on cars I've owned. beats my 997 interior by miles. the V8 put out more power but it was a heavy car that handled much worst than my later regular BMW 325.
Yes I am a big fan of the Tesla and plan to get a review on one shortly!
Good old Merritt Parkway, drive that on a daily basis!
I think you can change the ambient lighting in m4 through the iDrive system in setting, though I could be wrong
Yes correct.
One reason to get the prefacelift B8, hydraulic steering instead of electronic. Has lots of feedback :-)
What did you think of the ride quality in the different modes compared to your M4?
I drove the F80 M3 recently and it was firm but not punishing and better than the previous gen C63 AMG. An Msport F30 335i was quite soft in comparison.

If I had to pick one today I would most likely go for the 335i because it is newer and a little more driver focused. I think the Audi will take the lead again with the update next year.
M4 with Audi dash layout, now that would be something.
is this car still a good buy in 2018? i love the styling! are they reliable after 100k mileage?
Coming from a B6 S4 (V8), the B8.5 S4 makes me smile which surprises me ...a lot! Gr8 vid. Cheers! Btw...what GoPro are you using?
Do you think you can review a e90 or a f30 335i please ;) ? Keep up the great work btw my dear son !
The B8 Audis are really great! My dad has a 2014 2.0 TDI Avant and it does look really great, even though they're damn common :D the B9 is sexy too but not with the base lights...
Hey Nick, where do you get your music from?
Argh, do I watch it now or do I wait for it to process so I can watch it in HD?
lol @ the m4 interior night colors. didn't know it was that off. s4 is a great car though. looks like any a4 but will do sub 5 second to 60
nick, are you gonna do a review on 335i?
Is there any major difference between Manual or Automatic for the S4?
I was really impressed by the exhaust sound of this car, but I would prefer it with an S tronic.
That M4 interior tho
May I ask, what did the clutch feel like? My brother drives an A1 and the clutch he says is pretty deep and takes a while getting used to and what cars did you own before?
Clutch is nice and light an not too long. Has me thinking I need to get a MT in my next car
I own a 2015 S4 B8.5..... If anyone is considering this car. Get it, just get it.
Did you already try the B9? you have no idea how much you would adore I guess.. it feels like its from 2020 or such. :)
I've never been a 'car person' but this channel has really piqued my interest. The review style really covers all the bases.
We will convert you : )
What do you think about the tesla model s p85d+?
Whats with the Hogwarts meets Walt Disney World opening theme song?
nice vid nick. i have a question, what watch is that? what watches have you got? thanks.
Tissot. I also have a Casio calculator watch. : )
Nice reviews! Keep them coming! Now that you have reviewed BMWs and Audis I really hope you can get your hands on to a real german muscle car, Mercedes with AMG badge ;)
Indeed, I will work on addressing this soon. Maybe more American cars as well
With regards to the interior lighting you mentioned, does your M4 feature the glowing "M" logo on the seats? Just curious
It does indeed.
Do show. :)
So do you like the interior ?
Hey Nick, I know this isn't your newest video but I've been researching a lot about the S5 actually, which I'm sure is very similar to this car. It is often not possible because I only have the cars for a day or so normally
Awesome video as usual Nick. I always loved the interiors of audis, but In my opinion it's mercedes that class leading. I mean look at that S class :)
Yes agree! I will start working on some MB reviews soon, they have been lacking on my channel. I am a slacker!
Nick Murray You're far from a slacker Nick. Keep up the great videos :)
You know you can change the color for the leds in the BMW right ? However I do agree that it's weird that the dash light is white while the rest is orange, it's not like that on my F30
Yes they change between 'Sport mode' which is white and 'classic mode' which is orange.
is Chris the guy with the 458 as well?
Hey Nick, new to your channel but I just subscribed. Loved the review. I need some advice, I'm about to buy an 2015 S4. Michael Neri Yes the S4 really is a great package. It is not as much of a drivers car as your C4S would be but then it is far more comfortable and would perform as well if not better. I think you will love it. Best of all worlds.
Hey Nick, were you a fan of the B5 A4? I'm trying to get one for my first car, 1.8T too.
Pedro Silva I am, I had a year 2000 B5 1.8TQ manual with the 180hp engine. It was beautiful.
Cool, thanks Nick.
Spending 60K USD on a car in 2000, how old were you then like 19 or 20?
TUI!!
Does is feel heavy in the corners?
Nick, please review the new vette! :)
Working on it.
If you could I would love you to do a review or even share your thoughts on the Tesla Model S.
Working on it
Nick Murray Awesome! can't wait.
Oh yeah! Manual gearbox!
Just for you my friend
You should come to Germany and visit our Audi/BMW/Porsche/Mercedes HQ's. They are definitely worth a trip. Greetings from, you guessed it, Germany :)
Indeed! I really love visiting Germany. I like German breads, German roads, German swimming pool complexes (this is a hidden gem about Germany most people don't know about) and of course the German people.
Are you on the Merrit Pkwy?
nick, although i do agree with you regarding bmw's inferior interior design compared to audi's, how did you find the overall driving dynamics of this car? I have heard from several video reviews that audis steering feels very isolated and give very little road feedback.
to quote fellow youtuber who owns a m3 and 911 gt3, he said, "i hated the s4, it felt like driving a v8 camry"
can you agree with this or are you not that critical?
nvm i got to the point of hte video where you do mention the steering feedback.
+bearstearn3 The driving dynamics of the S4 are not meant to compete with the M3. That's the RS4. An M3/S4 comparison isn't a fair comparison because the S4 isn't built to compete with the M3. The S4 is built to compete with the BMW 335 xdrive.
Hey Nick, Any chance of an S3 and M235i review?
Yes to the S3, not sure I can find a M235i.
I'm in the market for a sporty sedan. I'm an Audi guy. Looking at a newer S3 or used S4. What do you think? Technology is much better in the S3 but overall i think the S4 might do it. I do have a family but we don't use my car much. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Personally, the s4

Cheers and keep it up,
Dave
Yes I will try and get my hands on a new C class, MB reviews have been lacking on my channel so I will try and address that.
Nick Murray
Nice. Btw, what kind of leather is that in the S4 which you praise so much: Milano, Feinnappa or Valcona?
And would you say that it is even better than the one in your M4?!
David Singer No the M4 has the best leather of either the S4 or my 911
Nick, please do a review of Tesla model S. Pretty please!
I will
The rs4 grille makes the car look so much more aggressive
Nick can you do a How to video on learning manual?
Ha maybe I need to learn how to drive MT better before teaching others : )
Waveny park, new Canaan ?
Great review Nick but it seems you have completely, forgotten about another manufacturer. You mention Porsche, Audi, BMW in your videos. But not once have I heard you talk about Mercedes Benz? Which in my opinion beat all of the manufacturers which you talk about.
This is so true, I will try and address this soon!
I did'nt know that. Interesting, do you know if Audi is catching up?
yes that whole platform is due for replacement in the next 18 months
Does this car have rev matching
Was that the Merritt you were driving on?
yep
Nick what do you do for a living?
IT architect
Nick would you be interested in reviewing my 2001 honda odyssey minivan???
At last!
haha
You scare me with the way you hold the wheel and grunt in the corners, yet the tires are not even complaining yet.
Nice video, btw, what ever happened to debbie?
She is still around
When is that m4 review coming nick ?
It is due for its 1200 mile run in oil change and needs one small issue fixed, so when I get it back from that I will do another video on it.
Nick Murray What's The Small Issue?
adilakram67 The light above the passenger sun visor never turns off, even when the visor and the mirror are closed and the car is off. It is only a small light but it is draining the battery so needs to be sorted.
Is the RS5 worth the price premium over the S4/S5?
I want to get to business meetings on time and drive 1 inch from the person in front while on the motorway. Is this the car for me?
No you are looking for a BMW 335i or a Nissan Maxima
Nick Murray haha I've been watching videos on youtube of this guy who turbo'd his Maxima (among other mods), and it's actually quite a sleeper! If only it was RWD or AWD. Torquesteer is not preferred. The Maxima does have a really nice engine though.
chrrrr Honestly around where I live on the East coast, if there is a car slicing through traffic with a death wish, 9/10 times it is a Maxima! They do have nice engines however : )
