How much was the engine modified, if at all? I used to have a 2013 S5 with the same engine, and I NEVER heard supercharger whine no matter how much I thrashed it. My E55 is a different story, but this thing, never.
Tanner Young Well if it was an S5 and not an S4, it more than likely had a N/A V8 without a supercharger. Of course, that engine even without exhaust work sounds better than this S4.
AveryPlaysBass I think at this point, I'm a broken record. The pre-facelift S5's had the 4.2 V8's. As stated, mine was a 2013, post facelift with the V6T. I think I know what kind of engine my car had.
A lot of people complaining that it has only 330hp, you have to understand that you don't need stupidly high HP to have fun. It's a car that you can control on the daily traffic and still have a lot of fun when you want. And that thing sounds awesome, thanks fo the review!

We're so spoiled by Hellcats and C63 AMG's that I thought to my self "ONLY 333HP?" when you said it.
Then I realize that it's more than enough.
Plus for what it's worth from a stoplight I'd imagine this thing is going to gap a Hellcat until the HC gets traction.

I remember watching this video when it came out 5 years ago thinking how awesome this car is and dreaming of having a car like this. I managed to finally get myself a 2016 Audi S5 in Sepang blue pearl in October 2020, this video and the noises definitely influenced my decision lol. Loving my Audi so far.

Even though it looks so simple, it's just really beautiful.
There's something about the sound of V6's that I like over any other engine configuration. Probably my second favorite sound after rotaries.

I drove the DCT version ('14) and this one sounds quite different - very interesting. And there was no tune? I didn't hear nearly as much supercharger wine on the one I drove. Good review!

Robert Hill No this is not a VR6 platform. this is a more typical 90 degree V6 I believe. I test drove the S-tronic transmission and loved the car
The air intake muffles the wine. The exhaust also helps hearing it.

I drive an A4 S-line 2009, and it has been tuned to around 290 bhp, European bhp that is, and I gotta say, if I was to make a review for my A4, it would sound a lot like this one! Great vid!

I like this review, it’s simple. It’s a lot like the Audi you’re in. Simple, a lotta haters, but it’s classy and mean and doesn’t need flare or flash. Love my Audi, they’re not the fastest, but a clean and well tuned Audi is something you have to feel. 🇩🇪

I had an A6 with that engine for a loaner over a weekend when I used to have an Audi and I couldn't even believe how fast it felt "for a V6".
It's like the best riding and luxurious muscle car ever. I imagine this thing feels even quicker and more nimble because of the size.

The exhaust sounds like my Q5 I love the tune that Audi’s have it’s a unique sound to them. You can defiantly distinguish this from any other German car sound wise.

I've seen a few reviews that wasn't in depth as this, and heard the things I wanted to hear about.
Plus, I think you should review more cars, not just JDM, because let's be frank, as much as I love Japanese cars, there's only so much you can review the same car. So, let's try and get you more of a bigger audience adding all types of cars.

This makes me miss my 2002 s4, those were the years with the twin turbo v6. Even with the turbo back exhaust there was almost zero outside noise. The cabin quality and even just the overall build quality was something special, you could feel the quality just when you shut the doors, no banging or rattle, just a "thud". The problem with that generation was the two front corner mounted intercoolers, they bolted onto the oil coolers and I had a slight spin out in the and snow though there was no visual damage it cracked the oil cooler and eventually ended in the demise of the car.
I own a B8 myself and I love this thing. Hands down best car I’ve ever owned 🤙🏽
How expensive is the maintenance? I need a fast awd car And manual for sure.
KingZD1 , it’s relatively expensive but it’s a just price for the car it is. Haven’t spent too much and I’ve had it for 40K miles so far. Currently at 95k. It’s such a quick car, I’ve kept up with hellcats so that’s saying a lot for a 333hp sedan. Sleeper is definitely the word for it! 🤙🏽

Traded in my 2014 5.0 in for a 2009 BMW 135i. 5.0 was full bolt on and getting stomped by my friend's 2007 335i (same engine and turbos as my 135i). I couldn't get over how easy it is to mod, how much cheaper it is, and how much nicer the interior is even for being 5-7 years old. I traded in my iconic American Muscle car in for a BMW and I will never go back lol. The BMW has proven itself to me. Such a better ride quality and the luxuries... don't even get me started. It just has a Stage 1 tune right now but here soon it'll be full bolt on and I will hunting down the American Muscle cars and disappointing quite a few people.

Tune cost less than an exhaust and gives 50 - 60 more horses, add a pulley and you may get 20 more. An exhaust only alerts the cops your on your way. whyyyeeeee......

Thatdudeinblue you always have excellent points that you share in your videos. The introductions in most of your videos are well done including shots that excentuate the cars. I appreciate that in car reviews. You always incorporate real world point of views which is good to an extent. I would like it if you included more technical specs and features of the cars you review in your videos. I understand the vehicles you review and drive are not yours, but I do believe it would be benificial to your viewers to include more information on the cars you review concerning all of the technical aspects. Other than that, great job on the photography and real world reviews. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your new videos.

A bolt on 5.0 will dust these, I beat 2 of them of the street with my 2v and was dead even with a twin turbo v6 audi, maybe driver error but 5.0 will dust these heavy audis. 330hp with almost 4000lbs will hurt performance
Mustang may be more reliable later on.

It's kind of a shame Audi can't decide what engine they want their cars to have. Over the years S4's have had inline 5 cylinder engines, V6 engines and V8 engines. Some NA, some supercharged, some turbocharged. The RS6 even had the V10 Lamborghini Gallardo engine at one point, now they gone away from that in favor of turbo V8. Make up your mind Audi..
Well engine technology has changed over the years and as all cars have progressed over each generation the engineers decide to revise, change, or just leave it alone and with the stricter emissions that they have to follow engines sometimes have to be downsized
Its called experimentation. You should see Audi's motorsport engine configurations.
From a twin turbo V8 to turbo diesel V12 to turbo diesel V10 to turbo diesel V6 hybrid
well I think they're trying to find the best one for the long term, I got very unlucky and bought the a6 with the Biturbo 2.7 liter. very difficult to work on, very leaky, engine needs to come out just to change the exhaust or work on the turbo chargers ect. ect. 250 horsepower so pretty god damn good for a 2000
S4 = 335i M-Sport = C450
RS4 = M3/4 = C63
True, but the S4 & M3 are basically identical from 0-60. Both can do 4.4 stock.
Caleb Chapman numbers can lie, F80/F82 can chase GTR bad, because 3XX lbs lighter. S4 can never run with the same time with F80/F82.

S4 is closer to an M3 than a 335i though.

To me it sounds like a Nissan/Infiniti VQ motor. A G35/G37 with an aftermarket exhaust sounds very close to this.

Older ones are turbo-charged.
S4, s5, are v6 supercharged 333hp
S6, S7, v8 suoercharged 420 hp
S8 v8 twin turbo 560hp
Only in USA/Canada :) Europe have that good ol' turbo setup
David Sabat the S7, and S6 are actually twin turbo V8s too 420hp they are just down tuned which means less power they have the same motor as the RS7 and RS6 which you mentioned 560hp.

tommy this kid haha. Its not all about how much horse power it has, this can put its power down thanks to audis awd system, whereas say a 500hp mustang tries to put all its power down it will just spin. Hp number isnt everything and doesnt determin whether a car is fast or not.
Do u really believe it's only 330hp? Motortrend keeps mentioning that audi is probably underrating this engine. This is a heavy ass car with Quattro and it can hit 60 in low 4 second range. Go search up Chris Harris' s4 where all he did was a tune and it ran almost as fast as the rs4. Some people even suspect that audi tuned down this engine so it wud not be as good as the 4.2v8 in the rs4 they have in Europe

Tanner Young on of my good friend has an S4. I use to have a 13 SRT charger. Yeah the charger has more power but the s4 weighed about 400 pounds less. I use to rape him when we raced specially once we get over 60 mph. True story....once his car had 45k miles he started having a lot of problems with it. Took it to the audi dealership. They got him out of the lease and gave him a brand new one. He did have to start the lease over
I'm not saying the S4 is like a super car or some shit, just that Audi's numbers are lies to protect themselves. Also, do you realize Audi S models aren't even performance models? They're just the midrange. The S4 competes with the 335i and C400. The performance models are the RS cars. That's what competes with AMG's and M's, etc. The S models are just midrange cars that Audi tries to make more special than the competition. An SRT Charger would be faster than the S4, but an RS4, nope. Too bad it's not coming here. Audi does as Audi do.
Also, these cars are all in all, infinitely better platforms than most cars... crazily tune-able. As I said somewhere else, this V6T with some work is easily faster than the RS4, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
I think people just mistake the special branding on this car and take it for something it's not. Think of it like this, the A4 is like a Golf, the S4 a GTI and the RS4 the Golf R. Not a perfect example because the GTI is a performance car, but the Golf R is in a whole other class that competes with cars double it's price and beats them all. This really isn't the performance car Americans think it is, just a more than the engine upgrade you get from the other big two.

SO CLEAN
A P.D (Positive Displacement) blower, such as a Eaton, Whipple, Kenne Bell, ect. are amazing for regular street driving. Instantaneous torque, and a very nice level torque curve. With just driving back roads and a regular driving situation, a centrifugal blower (ProCharger, Vortech, Paxton) and turbos can't beat the Positive Displacement blowers.
