    Love you Stuart. You make my day with each painting you upload to YT. I find your cadence and tone to be just the right medicine to help me through the rough days of work. Bless you for your generosity of time and patience with us wanna-be artist. The ease with which you transform a "glob" of paint into a striking painting will never cease to amaze me .

    Thank you so much Stuart for taking the time to teach a hitherto non-artist learn to paint. I was teased quite horridly at school for my lack of ability in art and believed firmly I couldn't paint for years. About 35 of them!
    That is until I came across your channel - thank you so much.

    Nice simple free painting just let it form. I’m still learning this so I won’t get angry at myself when I think it doesn’t look like what the artist painted.

    Beautiful painting as always Stuart! I love the moment when it transforms for me from the rough initial state into the magical state. That moment seems to happen all of a sudden for me and I am perplexed at how you did it because I didn't see it coming. This one really turned out beautifully!

    Stunning painting as always Stuart. Do you subscribe to the theory that you need to have a focal point in a painting? If so, where is the focal point here? The water? The clouds? I have painted many paintings without conaciously thinking of a focal point.. some of the artists I follow insist that there must be a focal point to draw the eye in. ? What do you think?

    Stuart, when you say that you are adding oil to your paint - may i ask what oil you are adding? and how much. Is adding oil - better or just different than adding a solvent ?

    • @StuartDavies
      @StuartDavies  3 місяці тому +1

      I use linseed oil, which is what most painters use. I don't use turpentine or solvents, because of the smell and also I don't think the fumes are good for your health.

    Excuse the technical question Stuart but I can't find red ochre from Lefranc. They have transparent red ochre but not the one you use. It is not listed on their website anymore. Strange. I understand why it is your favorite color by what you do with it. Like the sky on this painting. Beautiful.

    • @StuartDavies
      @StuartDavies  4 місяці тому

      That's odd! The French name for it is, Ocre Rouge Transparent. I usually refer to it as Red Ochre.

    • @pjjmsn
      @pjjmsn 4 місяці тому

      @@StuartDavies Thanks Stuart! They used to have the transparent one and the opaque one. I know because I still have a little of the opaque one left in a small tube, and I also have the transparent one. Good to know you use the transparent one. But I have no doubt that you could use anything and you will produce great paintings. I very much like how you teach to not be hung up on paints, like when you say that the blue you choose to use is the one that is closest to you. But I also know that you are careful about paints because you talked about a paint that you bought that behaves strangely where sometimes it looks green and when you spread it thin it turns strong yellow. It was interesting seeing what you did with that paint as well.
