New to the climber world and put it to use this hunting season. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxlQ7TDIrnnSXXbRgFFaxqwullRJJIuYAs I felt safe while climbing up and down a tree. It did take some time getting used to climbing and descending the tree. Once I figured it out I was comfortable going in climbing a tree knowing I was going to be up a tree quickly and most importantly quite not scaring every deer out of my area. I am 6’2” and 240 lbs, fit and comfort were great. I bow hunt and found no issues hunting from it. It is a little bulky to carry in and out of the woods vs some of the smaller open front climbers but I thought it was worth the bulk/weight due to ease of climbing (using the rail to sit on) and comfort for long sits.
Not only was Jim Stepp smart enough to design this marvelous invention, he was also smart enough to make Harry carry it during their instructional video.This man deserves two thumbs up.
Thanks for the reply, I just read something that he was not making them anymore. I will get with Jim and talk to him. This is the first time I have heard of them. So I feel his marketing of them might not have been great. I really feel more people would buy them if they knew about them.
Ordered 10 steps from Jim quick shipping there just like the video.. You can put them where you want, big spacing or little spacing,run them on the back of tree an then then around to your stand entrance. No need to carry a big put together ladder!

I love watching old time VHS productions I don't know if you viewers remember the tree lounge chair tree stand I think that's what it was called old man and woman promoting it I just hunt ground blinds now due 2 a ATV Accident but that's 4 putting this up!!
I love janky hunting stuff... professionals use harnesses, specified climbing and decending knots, or equipment and arborist rated rope for a reason...
These are great. Where I hunt putting spikes in a tree is illegal. Also you cannot use a motorized vehicle. So carrying anything gets tedious because you have to carry everything. I have a cheap climber and it's a pain in the butt.
However I've sat some cheap hang on stands that were great. Problem is climbing up too it, and keeping people out of it. This system solves both of them without much inconvenience other than tying on 4 steps when you head in, in the mornings.

Its not necessarily the loss of the cambium, although bad, but the open wound it will leave...
Any opening into the cambium can invite disease or fungal attack. My point being is that if is a tree you like and would want to return to then you will ultimately be shortening its life span and its structural integrity, if you then start using this system on several trees in the area then any infection you are allowing into the trees can become rife. you would not spike up a tree you wanted to keep.

Ira thanks for posting. Jim gets a lot of email requesting information on the stepps...because of this he has certain information that he sends to people that are asking for stepp product info. If your not interested in the stepps thats fine..there are only a few left and then they are gone..but please don't bad mouth Jim...anyone that knows him knows that he is as genuine as it gets and not someone to lie or deceive about anything....thanks David (the guy that posted the videos)
Interesting product but I prefer a climbing stand, takes me 5 minutes to get 40 feet up and hook up my saftey harness.

depends on how long your legs are and how many stepps you use...With 12 stepps with my 32 inseem and 6 foot body I can reach 40 plus feet easy..thanks

to your response. this is a great idea I just don't like it because you can unlock it by accidentally kicking it up. you also are relying on your harness as a third point of contact. send me one and I'll try ir. I'm not cutting you down just seems easy to screw up

I contacted the email and received a suspiciously spam "sounding" response. It seemed rather scripted but basically explained that the system isnt commercially available and the original videos date back to 1991. Jim also said it was someone else who had "resurfaced" the videos and created a new interest in the system. He explained that although the full system was no longer available he had components still available. Which he went on to explain that everything except the bag and ropes were

I gave a like for this, but my only other concern is when climbing down in the dark is left over rope might catch around the foot. But I think if that is a problem then I could tuck the remainder in back up under the step. As for the cuts in the bottom of the feet that dig into the tree have you tried using blunt ends with rubber feet?
I would also like to know if the harness belt comes with it? If not where do i get it?
I can see how theses step could really work well with the tree saddle.
Sorry for posting more, but I saw another video on this and noticed something. When the step is flipped and locked into place I see a open spot between the tree and the round cross bar. Is this big enough that a boot could slip through and get caught leaving me hanging upside down?
Just a way to fix this might be a small piece of expansion metal welded across that area but leaving room to tie the rope.
Nice invention, sadly probably doesn't make them anymore Cuz of to much better options from other competitors. I think if he made some that were like 2 foot wide and came out 12 inches or so; have something for people who wanted to have more to step on and feel secure. He might of still be in business.

Hi Bulldog..the rope that is hanging down from each stepp is a single rope...doe not get in the way...wanted to keep it simple...rubber can rot or tear..I know some guys that bury their stepps when they are not using them during the hunting season...they only have to replace the rope every ten or so years when it starts to fray...if you want a set contact Jim the inventor at jstepp@maine.rr.com he has some left and then that might be it for awhile...thanks

I am going to research this, because if what jorndis say is true, then it is very important. There is already a fungus all over this country in forests killing trees, so it is important. Without trees, you don't have habitat for those deer you likely would like to hunt.

can you adjust the length of the step?..can you have a step at a different horizontal position than the previous step (good when climbing crooked trees)

What type of safety harness was used in this video? Looks very lightweight and packable. Where could I buy one like it?
I emailed Jim...his reply is as follows "Seat O The Pants harness. Not sure it’s being made anymore. I’ll do a search and send you a link if I find it. I remember the original manufacturer of the harness was Fall Woods Inc. They were bought out by Summit Specialties. Sportsman’s Guide has the harness listed for about $70." thanks

No damage to the tree by using the ladder system though
My trees are to valuable to Spur Up... but I need up them... this is a good system with out destruction of bark, and allowing invasion of insects

What happens a when you get a 275 lb hunter?
I weigh 300...it will support 275...their is a pick where it is supporting a wheeler on it with a guy on the wheeler
But you can put up one climbing stick in the time it takes to put up 1 of these... sticks have 3 steps
Can you vary the step height on a climbing stick?...Can you use a climbing stick up a crooked tree? How visible is the climbing stick once it is in place....The Stepps allow varied step heights..and u can climb up the crookedest tree with no problem...and the stepps are pretty stealth...oh and if you hike a long way to a tree the stepps are less awkward to carry for sure...thanks for posting

here's the problem....its a great product.... BUT.....Ameristep sells their 20ft stick ladder at Walmart for 39.00.......I just bought two this year. You cant compete with that.
Then you know how much fun it is to carry them. I like that you can easily take down 3-4 steps and prevent theft of your stand. And these would be lighter than separate climbing sticks.
