My one tip for drawing furries is that you don't HAVE to be super realistic in your drawings. It's important to use reference and understand the animal you're drawing but you can simplifiy details.
I shall now, using this information that I've gathered, redesign my OC for the literal twentieth time. *I won't give up on Ekoh and I want him to look nice for he is my child.*
On tip is that you always need to pay attention in the fur you are adding on the body because sometime I see a lot of just like “naked” furry bodies like they have no like fur texture if that makes sense
I might be 5 years late but i can still give encouragement!!! I had a short month long time period where i would actually try to find tutorials and learn from them in my free time instead of just throwing myself into it and oh boy did my drawing improve. I went from terrible drawings of people to actually decent drawings of people. Of course i only really improved my people drawing skills because thats all i wanted to do but i now know that its possible to learn how to draw no matter how mych you feel like youll never learn. I used draw like a sir for the tutorials, blue biscuit has a good one for bodies in general, i do need to find more tutorials
i like the vid :D i always try to translate things shown in drawings / tutorials to 3d. funny enough for digitrade feet i just make a plantigrade foot ( since its easier ) and then pull the heel upwards/backwards / rotate it a little to make it a digitrade one if that explanation makes sense o3o but for MMD ( program i use for my vids ) plantigrade tends to give less problems then with digitrade so i tend to stick to those ... i also just stick with human ish hands usually just added claws i should probs take a character of mine and make his legs digitrade for the lols >.> also this is mostly a tip for fursuiters that want to draw a ref to a suit nazegeorang ( or something ) has a simple list of things you should keep in mind for plushies but the same logic is applied o3o
A very educational video Spirit! There were a few details that I found very enlightening and will hope to use in future drawings. Now for the question. While I tend to draw more human characters I have been making the push towards anthros to strengthen my palette. I would recommend that when you draw an anthro for the first time, gather references from both the real animal and cartooned versions of the animal. This gives you an idea on proportions and details that will help your character stand out. There is no true formula to making the perfect anthro, as I have seen even hybrids of multiple animals, so tinker and experiment with what you can find ^^
Really nice video:D I like the in depth analysis of how to draw furry characters, its some really useful information:) I especially like the detail about noses, since as you said in the video, a lot of artists tend to draw animal characters with dog-like noses:p ((also thank you for featuring my art, was really surprised^^))
Great video :) Really helps to visualize it, when you see it in relation to the anatomy ( head to ribcage, hand to paw, tail to butt&spine). New Background colors got a nice warmth to it.Like it. :D
Nice video... I LOVE IT!!!!! I too am a furry artist (on DeviantArt and FurAffinity) who likes to draw this stuff, though I am trying to diversify my art styles and subjects. If you ask me, I think the eyes are what furry artists should work on the most; this is my top suggestion for artists. You know the saying, "The eyes are the window to the soul?" Well, if you ask me, that is a true statement; a lot can be determined from the eys of the characters (especially personality), from eye shape, color, reflectiveness, glow... iness(?)... and some other things... If there is one thing I want to (and currently am trying to) improve on, it would be the eyes... but, of course, don't neglect the other body parts.
As someone who used to draw furries and I'm trying to get back into furry art after drawing humans for quite a lotta years, I found this really helpful!
When drawing anything. quickly map the entire form first zip, zip, zip THEN get in to draw the art part. Yeah the anatomy is broken into combos of 4 simple shapes. Cone. Cube. Cylinder. Sphere. I use a stick figure for all those pesky joints. Guidelines for all the muscle groups. Make sure to pause every few minutes to zoom out of your picture and examine it. Because if you concentrate all of your energy on one body part. The rest will look schmeh and that one body part would look . . . eh . . . because it takes ALL the body parts in the picture to make a good looking picture.
This video looks like it will help a lot. I have a character that I made and I have a story for him and everything else, but I don’t have an actual drawing of him. I have tried multiple times to draw him on my own hoping that I would be able to finish it but I just couldn’t get it right. I will try again with help from you.
Im a beginner and am using the How To Draw Manga Furries and right now im still practicing on how to draw the German shepherd but i have an issues with that im focusing to hard on draw the realistic reference and feel like in just focusing on making a perfect copy instead of actually learn some fundamental stuff and I would really like to know what help i could get and how to not get lost and what yo focus on when learning the head and face and Body
I also draw in a more anime style but im watching this so that when my friends can stick with a date for our dnd campaign i can have an actually good drawing
Great video! I'll be sure to share it in servers I'm in. ^^ As for me drawing furries, it kinda just depends. I try to go for a semi-realism style, keeping things expressive but also not straying too much from the species. Though it also depends on what I am drawing and what sort of characters they are in a certain setting. For example if I were to draw furries in a more fantasy-esque setting, I would likely go with digitigrade legs with a semi-realism look. If it were very cartoony and zany, I would try to go towards plantigrade and very, very expressive!
It's awesome that takes but how about drawing Leilani as Pocahontas? David ask John Smith and Theory Savage as John Rolfe? Leilani from the depths furry comic.
hm while i agree to alot of points, some points of the suit part I disagree with(but in art thats always like this i think^^) 1. Bigger Head doesnt equal heavier. Especially since you said you have a resin head, resin is generally heavier then foam. But it also depends on fur weight, and other features. I have worn a super heavy resin head (that was baerely bigger then my human face), and I own a huge toony suit ,which has a super lightweight heads, even if its three time the size fo my own) So it really depends on materials choosen. Of course a bigger resin head would be heavier then a smaller one tho. 2. Fursuit design, yes the suit ref was easier, I agree on that, but personally as a suit maker I would prefer to make your deer Character, which may be a more opinionated choice. but the Ponytail would be easier to make then the Long hair, also fo rmaintenance. Long hair is always ardeer to then styled which you can basically make out of fur being sculpted into the wanted shape for me :D Other then that I really enjoyed the Anatomy part, while I knew most of the information already, I still love seeing Ideas on how to go about drawing those special proportions Anthros possess :D Greetings Jay
so I did this this in college where i had to say one thing that makes me unique and I told them I like to dress up in anamorphic costumes. My mom saw it made me change what I said, all because she thinks that it's stupid. That made me mad because that's like saying the whole furry community is stupid even though it's not. I'm really sad though because everyone thinks me joining the fandom is stupid. Plus I don't have any one here 2 support me in doing this. Part of me doesn't want 2 give up just because someone thinks what I do is stupid, but another part of me wants 2 give up and not get into the fandom. Please help me. If I can describe how I feel rn it would be this: sad lonely angry and confused. But mostly the first 3. If there is anyone out there who can lend a paw and some support I would really appreciate it
Super awesome. Thanks. Cool. Awesome. How about Leilani as Pocahontas? And as Esmeralda and Kida from Atlantis the lost Empire? Leilani otter girl from the depths furry comics.
My name's Markus. I'm using my grandmas account. But anyways... I joined the community 2 days ago and I was wondering if its ok to use someone's art to make my fursuit?
My only problem is i.. physically cant draw. Like even if I have a perfect reference, even if I trace an image, it ends up being trash. Bases get ruined, I fail at drawing stick figures, and the worst thing is I've tried for years but not improved. How do I improve from being literally unable to draw?
My dude... the closest thing to a furry that a drew before a request I got for a furry was a demon werewolf... yah now im thinking and what the fuck did I do wrong. I did nothing wrong.
It's when an artist is struggling to create their art. Usually either when they're struggling to decide on what to create next or (in the case they know what they want/need to create but) are struggling with the "how to".
I draw my furry charachters hands exactuy like human hands, but like, she doexnt have paw pads? Like its the same color as her fur, but her hands arnt furry? Like its not as fluffy as the rest of her, but idk. I dont even know what she is XD
To me most difficult part to draw is everything. Aphantasia sucks, my imagination is black as carbon nanotubes Hell it's easier for me to draw in draftsight than in programs made for drawing like Photoshop, blender, 123d, ect... I just can't see it and no Matter what i just can't see the picture all i see is darkness
Thats TIPS ON WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO NOT HOW TO DRAW ONE. If the title is hiw to draw furries then mabey give addvice on how to literally draw a furry
So, what do y'all think of the new background? :o
(Also sorry if I sound really nasally in this video, allergy season is in full swing)
OMG did AnY made you become furry?!
They are great!
Jokerus E2R1P6 what art app are you using
Me: *walks on toes*
My mom: "What are you doing?"
Me: "I'm walking digitagrade!"
*falls*
Ooooh nooo
Me in corner: I would have just gone with saying you're practicing to be a runner
I do that to
LMFAO
Ha I can walk like that
My one tip for drawing furries is that you don't HAVE to be super realistic in your drawings. It's important to use reference and understand the animal you're drawing but you can simplifiy details.
But we can be super realistic
true, I draw furries in a different way, I'm trying to improve a little through and work more on the body, such as, paws, legs and feet.
Me:(stands on toes)
Also me:I A M N I C K.

Thank you so much for this video !!! I really want to delve into more Anthro type designs to further improve as an artist. ^^

Deer aren't equines, but they are ungulates
Very nice video, even though I can't draw, but I find these video fascinating.
It will come with time if you practise.
Everyone can draw!
Its Diamond practice*
This is the most relatable comment I've ever seen. Like just in general

I have a specific species tip, as someone who keeps rabbits: *Bunnies don't have paw pads."*
i like the vid :D
i always try to translate things shown in drawings / tutorials to 3d.
funny enough for digitrade feet i just make a plantigrade foot ( since its easier ) and then pull the heel upwards/backwards / rotate it a little to make it a digitrade one if that explanation makes sense o3o
but for MMD ( program i use for my vids ) plantigrade tends to give less problems then with digitrade so i tend to stick to those ...
i also just stick with human ish hands usually just added claws
i should probs take a character of mine and make his legs digitrade for the lols >.>
also this is mostly a tip for fursuiters that want to draw a ref to a suit nazegeorang ( or something ) has a simple list of things you should keep in mind for plushies but the same logic is applied o3o

I love your fursona. Very creative! I don't think I ever saw a deer one.
