Haha I could see Gord doing something like this before or while making love! I love his lyrics, whether simple, or impossible to decipher, theyre always very clever! I dont know about anyone else, but to me this song kinda seems to be kindly poking fun at songs about sex by artists who pretty much only sing about sex, but thats what I love about Gord's lyrics! You can interpret whatever you want from them! Im 14 and Id love to see the Hip! I wish more kids my age listened to real music like this
ive been around maybe forever...im just getting to know this band..i like everything from this album..what a fucking magical song with some of the best lyrics ive ever heard..man! i thought the were Brits! shows ya what i know...anyway this is now one of my favorite songs...BRAVO..England...errrr Canada...sorry
Damn, I miss Gord. 😞 I’ve developed a genuine fear that we’ll never see another so incredibly dedicated to his art. Even tho I’ve been a fan for decades, I can no longer watch or listen to THIS SONG w/o sobbing. I’m not sure if it’s because Gord passed away, or I’m just old and understand firsthand the fleeting nature of life, OR, if it’s just helpless sympathy for the protagonist of the song, hinted at in the last verse that spells certain doom for the boy we hear pleading with a girl. Gord always deferred the meaning of this song, I think I’ve heard at least half a dozen meanings from Gord at shows. Once one understands what he’s lamenting, you can understand why he left it for us to figure out. If you’re from Ontario or reside in a state that borders the Great Lakes (like MI, WI) you’ve probably known about Lake Fever for your entire life. Your parents probably warned you about it, as if that’s ever worked. Lake Fever has nothing to do with cholera or any waterborne disease, for that matter. That was just Gord being Gord, one clever lyricist and a helluva of a musician.
Huh, interpreted this song totally different from it's actual meaning. I put this song on when im driving to the lake, got that lake fever. In saying that though, it seems like the Hips music is all about interpreting the music as whatever you like, since it's all so relative.
You can actually hear Gord's acoustic in this performance...they usually bury it. Great song....why do so many Hip fans crap all over "music @work" anyway? I think it stands up well against any album in their catalogue.
music@work is really great. Some of those songs are just fantastic but I do prefer Phantom Power even though Troble at the henhouse keeps the best album title.
Kate Fenner sang alongside Downie on this tour as Chris Brown accompanied on keyboard. They were both previous members of the band ‘Bourbon Tabernacle Choir’
Wanna be your wheezing screen door,
Wanna be your stars of Algonquin,
Wanna be your roaring floorboards,
Wanna break the hearts of everyone.
Dearly missed Mr.Downey! RIP How many lyricists can fit an expression like coital fury into a song? Just brilliant gentlemen
Sorry but it's spelled Downie
I have known a few women and coital
fury is a real phenomenon
Jesus Christ...what an amazing song and incredible band...one of the most underestimated bands from canada
The WORLD, second only to RUSH, who I heard first so they get top billing but alas are also no more.
"I want to break the hearts of everyone." You will Gord, you will.
sherpajones Reading this comment just broke mine.
